Resize a diagram in Keynote

I'm trying to resize a diagram I made with Keynote 09 in Snow Leopard; nothing but lines (and multiple lines), grouped.  I can size bigger, but not smaller sometimes!  (Some diagrams work fine.)  I must have set something that restricts making smaller; but what??

Thanks for the suggestion.  That gets around the problem (though it shrinks the thickness of some of my lines).  But I don't think the reason is as simple as the floating point value, because I made 5 diagrams at the same time, and could shrink 3 of them, but not the other 2.  They were similar to each other, but must have had something (like the ruler settings or gridline settings or slide size, which was 600x600 pixels) that prevented the resize in those 2.  It would be nice to know just what  prevented it, so I can avoid it in the future.
It  could be the sizing, I suppose; for the 2 that gave me trouble, I had squared the slides to 600x600.  I think I had increased that to 750x750 (or something) on the other 3 slides.  I needed to square the sizes so my grid would   produce squares, not rectangles.

  • Resizing an image in Keynote

Using Keynote, please tell me how I can size images in one direction only - e.g to elongate a picture. It should be really simple, as in Powerpoint, or as with a Textbox, by dragging one of the "handle" squares on one side of the frame.  However, I find that when I do this with an image, it resizes the whole picture using its original proportions. Help!

I was looking for this too! - and I've just found a much easier way (but it is 3 years later than this post LOL). Simpley click on the "Edit Mask" button (located on the bottom of any image), you will then be able to freely edit/crop/position your picture - phew!
Hope this helps. I would like to be able to type place holder "titles" directly where it says "Drag an object here" on a placeholder box but I have to create a new text box. Any ideas?

  • How to resize photos added to Keynote, without doing it proportionally?

I want to scale a picture I add to Keynote for iPad, but it always does it proportionally. I can't skew it at all. If an object is added it can be skewed and scaled however, but this cannot be done with pictures added?
Am I missing a setting, or a technic?
    Thanks

I was referring to resizing a jpeg file.
There is no technological way to resize a jpeg without either:
    1 recompressing it.
    2 using non-standard jpeg extensions.
The problem with #1 we are mostly familiar: re-jpeg'ing a jpeg causes degradation.
The problem with #2 is that other software won't be able to read them afterward.
I experimented with lossless resizing using a couple different programs (e.g. a libjpeg-based utility), and it worked perfectly, but Lr can't read the resized files (it does not support the requisite jpeg extensions), nor could ACDSee...
So, unless a specification for the jpeg extensions gets approved (and becomes a standard), I doubt we'll see lossless jpeg resizers in wide use.
I have written a lossless crop script, which may be the next best thing, it's free, and available here:
    robcole.com - MiscLrScripts
    Script name: 'Jpeg perma-crop lossless'.
Comes complete for Windows users, some assembly required on Mac.
It will overwrite original source files, so not recommended unless:
    * it's really what you want to do, and/or
    * you have backups of original source files, in case you cropped it wrong, or change your mind afterward..
(if possible, originals will be in trash/recycle-bin, so..).
To be clear, in this context, "lossless" means "maintaining jpeg format without recompression" - jpeg is a lossy format to begin with..

  • Keynote diagrams don't link with numbers anymore?

I upgraded to Mavericks today and with that I updated Keynote and Numbers.
I have a keynote presentation that I use a lot with diagrams in it.
The diagrams are linked to a numbers file.  When I change the data in the numbers spreadsheet I used to be able to update the diagrams in Keynote so they would match de data in de spreadsheet.
It seems like Apple removed this functionality. At least I can't make it work anymore...
Can anyone help me?  I really need this to work for a presentation I have to give next week..
Otherwise I have to downgrade but I don't know if that's even possible.
    Many thanks!

I am guessing here but I suspect that option has been removed as Apple have discontimued iWem and dont want to provide an  iWeb function.
Im unable to comment on HTML export as its working for me, but I have not upgraded to the latest version due to the amount of problems it is causing users.

  • Can you add a diagram - such as a radial or circle diagram?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you can add a radial or circle diagram in Keynote, like you can in Powerpoint? If it's not natively built-in is there a plug-in that supports a feature like this?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

No, there's not a feature like that in Keynote, and it doesn't support plugins, so there's no plugin available to add that drawing type.

  • Magic Move and Charts

I was watching the video of todays WWDC keynote and at one point Phil Schiller was showing a graph that smoothly changed vertical size and scale when transitioning between one slide and another. He then said (I am paraphrasing) "Magic Move in Keynote".
I went right to my Keynote '09 and have spent the last 45 minutes trying to get Keynote to do such a smooth Magic Move transition. Started with a scatter chart. Generated on a page, copied and pasted in the next and just shrunk the vertical size. No smooth transition. I removed the legend from both. Same no go. Tried it with 4 other chart types and in none did Magic Move smoothly transition a chart from one page into another where the size was changed.
Has anyone else done this? Look at the WWDC video - it happens with Phil's first part of the presentation showing numbers of OsX users. Can anyone duplicate this with a chart???

I think so. There is no other way. As I said it's not perfect. Magic Move makes the animation dependent from the objects being at front and at back. To make it perfect, you need to care about that. As this would REALLY take time I didn't do so. But I think Apple does have employees for that
You can do the diagram with keynote, then remove all gridlines etc. copy it and paste it into Photoshop as a Vector smart object. Then save it as a .psd file and put it back into keynote....

  • Want a Simple Way to Insert a Simple Picture

I'm having trouble inserting a simple picture into a pages document. I don't care about anything fancy, the document is an academic paper and I just want a simple diagram with a few boxes and arrows. No colors, animation, bitmaps, etc. I created the diagram in Keynote first. Then I grouped all the boxes and arrows into one object and copied the object. Then I pasted the object into the Pages document. What I expected is the text would wrap around it and i might have to tweak that a bit. My preference is just to have text above and below the picture, no fancy text wrapping, the picture is wide enough it takes up the width of most of the page anyway. But the text and image seem to blur together.
Just to be clear, what I want should have the following layout shown in quotes below:
"Blah, blah, blah...as we can see in the diagram 1 below:
BOXES AND ARROW PICTURE GOES HERE
As we can see in diagram 1 above..."
I've tried anchoring the text with "below:" or "As we can see" but I can't figure out how to change the anchor. I position the cursor where I want the image to be (in the blank space that says BOXES above) but it seems to want to place it higher up (the little blue anchor thing isn't where I expect but further up in the paragraph) and I can't figure out how to change it and I've even -- and this just shows how desperate I am -- looked at the documentation and still can't figure it out.
I also tried various hacks like inserting a bunch of line breaks or even a new page all on it's own and the picture still ends up getting displayed strange. The picture takes up about .75 the width and .25 the height of a single page.
I know I must be doing something stupid and am probably missing something very basic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, Pages 5.2.
    Thanks I'll try that.
Regarding where I draw the picture, are you saying it would be easier with Pages or should the behavior be pretty much equivalent either way?
I've always preferred using some simple graphics tool like Powerpoint or now Keynote for diagrams because I usually have lots of diagrams and I like to have them in a separate tool, sort of a repository for the pictures. Also, as in this case, the picture started out as part of a presentation and I think will migrate back to a presentation. For consistency and because at least with previous tools you could do more with graphics in a presentation tool I always have done it that way. But if the drawing tool in Pages works better I could use that.

  • In-Line Objects

As a long-time Word user whose patience with Word's quirks has runout, I am quite new to Pages. I am having problems getting an object to move with the text as I edit documents. I use graphical research models to explain hypotheses. These models bascially consist of oval shapes and arrows. When I create the model it stays fixed to the same page regardless of changes in the text. When I change the placement to "moves with text" the ovals and arrows move all over the page?!? I just need the model to move as a unit with any changes in the text. Please help with hopefully simply problem.

    Hello Obi-Wan
What you need to do is select all the component objects of your diagram by using shift-clicking or dragging a box from off the page around all of them. Once they are all selected, pick Group off the Arrange menu. Then Pages will treat the grouped graphics as a single object and move them as a unit.
If you want the object to move with your text then select that option. You can only then affect how the text wraps around your object by choosing the object causes wrap option and picking the appropriate icon for the layout you want.
If you want to move the object, all you can do is cut and paste it to the middle of some other text. You can't say something as complex as the bottom right of whatever page a particular bit of text is on.
As someone else posted here earlier, it might be useful for you to create your diagrams in keynote and paste them into pages afterwards (grouping the objects beforehand of course).
    I hope that helps.

  • What unit of measurement does "pt" represent? inches? cm? mm?

i am trying to resize an image in keynote to a fixed dimension but is unsure on what measurements "pt" actually means. how do i resize the image in mm?

It's a font measure meaning "point." There are 72 points to an inch.
No its not, in the context of Keynote point is an Apple created formula related to pixels. Why they have used that instead of pixels is unknown.
how do i resize the image in mm?
In Keynote;     Keynote > Preferences > in the Rulers Units drop down menu select;  Centimetres
    There is no millimetre option.

  • Keynote group not pasting as dropimage.pdf so not resizable

OK, I need to know the secret handshake....
I use Keynote to create diagrams (i.e. charts, time lines, continuums, etc.) that I then group and paste into iweb. They have always pasted as dropimage.pdf (the name is viewable in inspector) and they can be resized as any graphic. They initially paste much smaller than original in keynote (which is OK). Nothing is editable.
Now I am having the problem that some groups drop into iweb with no name (i.e. not dropimage.pdf) and they won't resize properly (the graphic elements resize, but the text remains the original font size so that a + appears at the bottom of the text box because the text font is to large for the text box size after resizing). They intially paste the same size as original. The text is editable.
I have tried to see the difference between groups that paste as dropimage.pdf and ones that don't, and cannot see what the difference is (they are very similar).
How do i get items to consistently paste into iWeb as dropimage.pdf so they can be resized?
    Thanks

  • Automatic resizing of controls on block diagram

    Hi,
I have control as strict type def and many instances (on block diagram) of this control in several VIs. When I add new element in this control all instances resizes to maximum size and that corrupt layout on block diagram because all structures resizes with that instances. Is there a way to avoid that?
    Thanks, andrej

Place it on the front panel of a subVI as an output. Then call that subVI whenever you want the typedef.
You can find more on using typedefs here.

  • Keynote 6.5 Crashes When Resizing Object

I have been having this problem with the last two versions of keynote on OSX Mavericks/OSX Mountain Lion, the problem is not unique to keynote 6.5 on Yosemite.
Only objects which have been grouped together, such as a graph w/ legend, will make keynote crash when I try to resize them. This is when I use the cursor or the "Arrange" side menu tools. I can move the object freely, I just cannot change its size.
Any help is much appreciated on how I can modify the object so that it can be resized.

Sorry I have no real experience with this, just a thought. Did you use migration assistant to move the old files over from your G4 to your Intel? And did you then perform a "Repair Disk Permissions" upon the entire hard drive from within Disk Utility's "First Aid" panel? (located at Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility)
If the file move still is causing you a problem afterwards, you could try and work around it by moving the files in a different way. As a test, create a small file on the G4 and then email it to yourself from the G4. Receive that message into the Intel and see if the Intel can then open the file from inside Mail. This might avoid any "bias" created during the move from old to new Mac.

  • Do I need to resize images for Keynote?

Do I need to resize images for Keynote? I have images in a variety of sizes and wonder if there is a minumum or maximum size recommended.
    Thank you!
    B

All depends on what the end product is; a slide show on a laptop or projected  20 feet wide in a theatre. For best performance, images should be created to match the document size in;  Inspector > Document > Slide size.
    The slide size should as a minimum match the screen resolution of the  Mac in;
system preferences > displays. The higher the number of  pixels the better the quality.
However, many images are supplied that are much smaller than are required, resulting in them being enlaged beyond there best.

  • Resizing grouped objects keynote

In keynote I would like to be able to resize grouped objects without maintaining proportionality - is this possible?
The "Constrain Proportions" button is greyed out for grouped objects for me.
    I'm using version 6.2

Why can't I resize grouped objects in the new Keynote without constraining proportions
The only people who can give an informed answer are the Apple engineers, however they don't post in the user to user community.
Keynote 5.3 certainly could do this, but the latest version of Keynote is a completely separate application with different tools and features and file format.

  • Resize a Keynote slide with Applescript

Hi, I'm trying for hours to resize a Keynote presentation in a window, but with no success.
I'm starting thinking that it's impossible..
    With
    tell application "Keynote"
      start
              set the bounds of the window 2 to {0, 0, 800, 600}
    end tell
    it doesn't work properly..
Is there a way to launch the slideshow and then change the rect (size and position) of the presentation to show, for example, the slideshow in a particularly part of the desktop?
    Any hints would be appreciate...
    Thanks

Any particular reason for those specific technologies?  wget does not exist on a mac, although you can nstall it I guess.  OS X has curl installed which should do pretty much anything you want to do with wget.  cron is being replaced by launchd, although cron still exists on mountain lion.
As far as I can tell from automator all the standard 'actions' to access keynote  available to it require keynote to be open and running, but does not provide a function to actually open it.  So I think you will have to write some applescript, as a minimum to open and quit keynote. I notice that the keynote actions are mostly circa 2005 an wonder if they would even work.
Under utilities in automator 'actions' there is a capability to add applescripts as part of the workflow.
Also, note that cron is being dprecated by Apple and replaced by launchd.  that said cron is stil on my mountain lion instalation.
This entry at stackoverflow shows use of cron with curl to get web urls.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1683620/getting-started-with-cronjobs-on-a-ma c
If I have any time I may try and get this to work as it is quite interesting and new to me.  But otherwise, good luck.
