Resize after dragging into another image

This is my first post here. I have been a Photoshop user for years, but just upgraded to a new computer and CS5 Windows. While using CS2 I often would drag an image into another image and then resize it so that it looked the way I wanted in the new image. Now, when I drag an image into another, I can't resize it. What do I need to turn on or off. Files are the same format and bit depth.
Thanks
Paul

Are you saying the way you were set up before, you immediately saw the resizing handles, and you could drag them to resize?
I know there's an option for that, but finding it...  Always a challenge...
Ah, found it.  Do this:
1.  Activate the Move tool (4 way arrow cursor) in the Tools panel.
2.  Check the [ ] Show Transform Controls box at the top of the main Photoshop window.

  • CS5 - Image set at one size shrinks when dragged into another image?

I have Photoshop CS5 for Windows (just purchased this week). I am working on a school project in which I am editing an image and then dragging it into a calendar.
While working with the original image, I size it to 4.627"w X 4"h. Then when I go to drag it into the calendar layer, which is the same size, it shrinks drastically.
Why is this and how do I stop it?
For one image I was able to move it and it did not change size. But with all the others, I am having this shrinking problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Britt

The change in size is due to different resolutions.
You can set resolution in the Image > Image size dialog.

Here is what I try, but I find out I just get a black square for my output image, can you please tell me what am I missing?
              ImageIcon file=new ImageIcon("images/clouds.jpg"); // You can't open bmp files
                   // width, height looks correct:
                   System.out.println (" width" + file.getIconWidth());
                   System.out.println (" height" + file.getIconHeight());
                   BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(file.getIconWidth(), file.getIconHeight(),

  • How to preserve size when dragging image into another image?

When dragging a 5x4in photo into a blank 11x8.5in image, the 5x4 is shrunk more than 50 percent.  Any fix for this?

Have you tried placing the image as a Smart Object?
No, but just treid with same shrinking.

  • Photoshop CS4-Outer glow changes specs (spread, size etc) when dragged into another ps file of similar size

Hello. I'm trying to add an outer glow to multiple photoshop images that have (at least one) of the same file dimensions as the original photoshop file. I'm doing this by dragging/dropping the original file's outer glow into the new files. But the size/spread/etc. of the outer glow changes once in the new file. Trying to automate this process and have to redesign the drop shadow for every batch of images I get. Anyone have any advice on why this is occurring? Or any advice on how to automate if this method does not work? I'm trying to keep the look of the outer glow consistent with every new batch. Thanks for looking! Yea, I know, still working in CS4 unfortunately.

    Try resetting the printer subsystem.

  • Re-size selection after moving to another image

I did this quite often when I had CS5, but did not try this until a few days ago with CS6. It seems after I selected a portion of one image and moved it to another that the selection would become square and allow me to fine tune its size to fit the new image(in CS5). This does not hpaaen in CS6. Have I forgotten a step or is it different in CS6?
    Thanks
    Paul

I think you forgot the the steps you used.  A non square Aspect Ratios selection should not change to a square one because of a move. However to selection will be resampled if the two documents have different resolution.  You can tweak the size by using free transform on the new layer. However you should constrain the transform to maintain the layers aspect ratio otherwise the contents of the layer will distort.

  • Place a image into another image

I cut out a section of a image I wanted to use for a project then I tried to paste into the new project and it pasted with nothing there only a new layer was created without the section of the image I tried to cut. Am I doing something wrong? What is the actual process?

Like the Silkrooster has told you, (do you have name Silkrooster?) not easy to say.  You could try using Free Transform on the pasted layer.  If the layer is empty you'll get an error message.  If it has some pixels in it, the free transform bounding box will show you how big it is - even if it overspills the canvas size.
One possibility is that you selected the are you wanted to paste into the new image, but didn't then copy the selection (Ctrl c or Cmd c).

  • How do I copy one image onto another image?

How do I copy one image onto another image?

Lots of ways;  Use the Place command to place a file in another.  Open two files and drag one to the other's window tab, drag an image from bridge onto an open file.  Open an image, press ctrl/cmd-A to select all, the ctrl/com-C to copy the image, the ctrl/cmd-V to paste it into another image.

  • I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What to do?

I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What can I do to prevent this?

What is the resolution of the image that you "dragged"? The resolution is the number in pixels per inch (ppi). If you dragged a significantly lower resolution file into a higher resolution file, it could result in a blurry image.

  • Missing thumbnails after dragging a project into another folder?

Why would cause whole bunch of photos in an album to not show up in browser/viewer after dragging and dropping from one folder into another?
If I click on the root folder where the project is located, all the photos show up again on the browser/viewer. But when I click on the specific album within the folder, they disappear again.
The only way I can find to get Aperture to display the photos in the album is to close the app and relaunch it, which is extremely annoying when I just want to move a couple of albums around.

Looks like this is the closest to the trouble I am having. I am having the same issues. just downloaded the trial version and imported all my iphoto library but all my video files are missing those thumbnail in the browser format... well actually regardless how I view the file, thumbnails are missing for all the videos. To me, it doesn't do anything even if I restart the app...

  • IMessage no longer accepts images to be dragged into the message box

My iMessage iMac app no longer accepts images to be dragged into the message box since upgrading to Mavericks. I used to be able to just drag in .jpg images and they would appear in the text field to be sent to another persons iPhone/iPad/iMac. This no longer happens and just ignores that I have dragged it. Not even a "not accepted" icon appears.
Is this just me? Or a bug in Mavericks?
    James

Its working again now after a restart so must be a bug.

  • How do I insert part of one image into another in Elements 8?

I am testing Elements 8 and would like to, for example, take an eagle from one image and insert it into another.  I've done this with other editing programs, but can't see how to do it here.  If one is to use layers, then I have another problem.  How does one open layers from more than one image in the palettes?

You can only view the layers of one image at a time. I believe E8's default setting is a maximized setting which allows for only one image in the workspace. If you change the setting in the menu to Cascade, you can have several images open in your workspace. I believe, that's under Window<Arrange.  The layer's palette will display whichever image is currently selected.
There are several ways to do it. Here are a couple...
    Copy/Paste...
One way is to select the eagle with a selection tool...magnetic lasso whatever...then copy the eagle into your clipboard. Edit<copy. (Shortcut = Ctrl + C on PC; Cmd + C on Mac).
Open the second image then paste. (Shortcut = on PC Ctrl + V; on Mac Cmd + V). This will add the eagle to the current image. Use the move tool to position the eagle.
    Drag/Drop...
Alternately, change window<Arrange in the menu bar to Cascade. This will allow you to have more than one image in your workspace.
Open both images. Select eagle with a selection tool. Once selected, switch to the move tool. Drag eagle into second image.
Alternately, you could also lift the eagle to it's own layer then drag it over using the move tool. Release the mouse button when you are over the second image to drop the eagle. (Shortcut to lift selected eagle from the background to it's own layer = on PC Ctrl + J; on Mac = Cmd + J.)
Note: Both images should be the same or close to same resolution. The image that is dragged will adjust (resize) to match the background image resolution. (Low resolution images dragged into high resolution images are tiny whereas high resolution images dragged into low resolution images would be huge).

  • Why can't I drag and drop images from the browser into other programs?

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 4 (even after I upgraded again to Firefox 5) I have been unable to drag images from the browser into other programs, including MS Paint and IcoFx. I receive an error message stating that the file (the address given lists it as being located in the temporary files folder) cannot be found.
Prior to this I had always been able to conveniently drag and drop images for easy editing without having to save first and then open them. This feature is important to me, as I work with graphics very often, and is still available in Chrome and Internet Explorer. I love Firefox though, and hope that there is something I can do to fix the problem.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did :  Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
    Click OK.
    Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
    Works fine now.

  • __Can I merge one large Bitmap image into another?

__Can I merge one large Bitmap image into another?
I have 2 very large hi-res Bitmaps that I want to merge together into 1 file without converting to grayscale or anything. The problem is the second Bitmap is like a 'patch' and I want to insert it into the other like a puzzle piece, while maintaining corect registration (the bitmaps combine to a 4 colour seperation).
    Thanks in advance!

1bit Bitmap offers no layer capabilities so going through grayscale seems advisable. (Edit: Naturally one should at the end of the combination process convert to bitmap again.)
Other than that you could after pasting remove parts of the pasted content with the selection tools (setting them to subtract with alt).
