Resize album art

How do I resize album art in iTunes 11.  In iTunes 10 there was a slider control to enlarge or shrink the art.  Is it gone??

This really bothers me as well. Why can't album art be displayed at a large size? I have high-quality, large album covers that I've taken time to collect and I'd like to view these at as large of a size as I'd like. In my opinion the album artwork is just as much a part of the album as the tracks. I feel the restriction on album art size is way too small and takes away from the experience of interacting with my music collection. I like the way the new Myspace complements the album tracks with a large album cover display.

In the Grid view, *View > Grid View > Show Header* should expose the header. In the List view it's contolled by the size of the artwork column.

  • Resizing Album Art in Grid Mode

I don't know why they changed this but there used to be a little scroll bar at the bottom of grid mode and you could resize the album art in grid mode. Now it only comes in one size no matter how many albums you have. Is there anyway to change it? Has apple fixed this? Thanks

I have the same issue here.
If i change my display profile in the system preferences to the default, they disappear.
But that can’t be the solution.
    Has anybody a clue?

  • Album art dimensions?

What are the ideal dimensions of iTunes album art?
After hours of searching, I'm still convinced someone in the world must know the ideal dimensions of album art is. After all, someone designed the app.
I'm sure when I first began publishing a video podcast, I spent hours of trail and error getting artwork the proper WxH dimensions, as well as the ideal size. I resolved it was 640x480. But with a newer version of iTunes, all the album art I created is smaller than all the other album art in my collection.
What I really want to know:
    1. What are the ideal WxH dimensions?
    2. What is the ideal size?
    3. Does iTunes resize album art when added?
    4. Does iTunes scale the display of album art? (It seems it does.)
    5. Why won't Apple share this info to preserve the sanity of podcast publishers, at least?
    6. How many man-years were wasted by people trying to figure it out?
    (My searches suggest decades.)

I did find this at http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcastingfaq.html
    +Why do I need cover art?+
+Attractive and interesting cover art attracts new subscribers to your podcast. Podcasts must have good cover art to be featured on the Podcast main page or the Store main page. Most good podcast images include an image as well as a title, brand, or source name. A 300x300-pixel JPG is the recommended size and format. Using this relatively large format, the iTunes Store automatically generates the various smaller images you see in the podcast directory. Before you settle on the art for your podcast, you may want to review the Top Podcasts page and note the various elements that contribute to compelling art.+
    Hope this helps.

  • Album Art Does Not Resize in Album Art Panel

For some reason some of my album art does not fill up or resize when I resize the album art panel (the lower left hand side of itunes). This happens only with some, not all, of my art. Some additional background:
    - No problem with album art in cover flow or grid views
    - album art was embedded in file by another program (not itunes)
    - Occurs in itunes 7 and itunes 8
    - for the album art that is a problem, the art does not fill in the album art panel and therefore when i resize the panel, it just stays the same size.

I still don't understand why it would scale in the other views (cover flow and list view)
Who knows? The artwork preview panel pre-dates Cover Flow, so when Cover Flow was intoduced and made to scale art up as well as down, perhaps nobody considered revisiting the code for the artwork panel to make it work the same way. However, I find the existing behaviour quite handy for spotting when I have images that are too small, since these generally don't scale well. I have my artwork panel set to fit my minimum acceptable size of 200x200 pixels so if I ever notice a white border I know to try and find better quality art.

  • Album art resizing?

Does iTunes resize the album art that I add to the file or should I do it myself first? If it doesn't, is there an optimal size?

iTunes does not, but I believe it may generate smaller versions for transfer to the iPod. Don't quote me on that.
Generally, anywhere from 300x300 to 600x600 is suitable for crisp images in Cover Flow.

  • Album Art Resizing Itself In Coverflow

The majority of my album art is 600x600, but some is rectangular (e.g., 600 wide x 540 tall). This afternoon, I noticed that some, but not all, of this rectangular artwork is being resized when iTunes is in coverflow view: the height of some of the album covers that appear in coverflow are being stretched so that they appear as square rather than rectangular.
The same art is also distorted when I view art in the artwork column and in grid view.
However, the proportions of the affected artwork is correct when viewed with
    • iTunes' artwork viewer (in the lower lefthand corner)
    • on my second generation iPod nano
    • on my iPhone 3G's iPod app (in coverflow and otherwise)
    • in the Remote app
    • and, if I open one of the album covers and view it in its own window, it appears in the correct dimensions.
The artwork also looks correct in the summary tab and the artwork tab when I "Get Info." If I copy one of the affected album covers and open it with Preview, its dimensions will be correct.
I can discern no pattern as to which images are being resized. Some art images I have scanned myself and some I have downloaded.
I have no idea what might have triggered this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is an addendum to my original post, including a cumbersome "fix," and a working hypothesis as to the root of the problem.
(In my original post, I had neglected to update my signature to note that my current OS is 10.6.4.)
Last night, I extracted the artwork of the nonstandard covers (I'll call "standard" artwork that which is 600x600, as well as other art of that 1:1 ratio).
Assuming that the width of all the nonstandard artwork was 600 pixels, the affected artwork was that which was 540 high and higher. Nonstandard artwork that still appears normally is 539 and shorter. The 600/540+ (bad) vs. 600/539- (good) appears to be a ratio that affects artwork of smaller sizes as well. For example, a file that was 467 pixels in width that was "too high" (420) would also be affected. (I have some artwork that is smaller than 600 pixels, but none is larger, so while I assume larger images will be affected, I don't know for certain.)
When I extracted a 600x540 file and resized (or rescaled) it to 600x539 and then embedded the new art, coverflow displayed the artwork correctly. I have done this for all the affected artwork and this has "fixed" the problem.
(I've read that a number of people are currently having problems adding artwork so, for the record, I copy an image open in Preview and, then, in iTunes, I "get info" for the files to which I want to add artwork and then paste the artwork into the artwork box seen in the "Multiple Item Information" window.)
However, this only fixed the problem for view in coverflow. It did not fix the grid view. Those files were still being stretched until I "jiggled" the size of album covers in grid view. I slid the sizing bar back and forth, to make the albums first larger and then smaller, and then I eased the size back to its original position (in my case, as large as the grid view will render four albums in one row before they become three to a row). So, no kidding, once I shook iTunes, grid view worked again.
Armed with this information, I sat down with a similar system (my wife's), another 13" Macbook running 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2.1, and I attempted to replicate the problem; her iTunes library is unique but contains some of the same music files with the same artwork that had appeared distorted on my system. Two careful examinations of the music library had not shown any distortion to this system's extant artwork but, when I added nonstandard artwork of the problematic ratio (and files that had said artwork) I saw the same problem on my wife's computer that I seen on mine.
I can offer the following additional information:
12 May 2010 is the last known date on which I embedded a file with "problematic" artwork that displayed said artwork properly in coverflow.
On 26 July, I extracted a nonstandard artwork image, touched it up, and embedded that "airbrushed" art into the music files. This is the album cover that I first noticed to be stretched. However, while I noticed it yesterday afternoon, I do not recall noticing it on the morning of the 26th, when the new artwork was added. (And this does not necessarily mean anything; I may have been inattentive.)
While wrangling with that album cover yeterday and trying to get it to display properly, I did not notice a problem with any other album cover (but I did not look methodically). After wrestling with that album and failing, I quit iTunes, tossed the album art cache in the trash, and rebuilt. It was at that point at which I noticed distorted artwork en masse.
I am open to other ideas, but my working hypothesis is that, at some point in time, within the last week or the past two months, iTunes (by which I mean the most current version of iTunes on a Macbook running the most current version of Snow Leopard) has become incapable of caching these nonstandard images. The extant thumbnails of the "problem covers" were fine, but once I tossed them into the trash and iTunes needed to reconstruct them, mayhem ensued.
Even though I have hit upon a workaround for our computers and will avoid adding problematic art to our iTunes libraries, I'd still be curious to know what's behind the problem and if there is an easier fix than the one I found, which is not a fix inasmuch as it's the "don't move your arm like that" when your arm hurts solution.
For what it's worth and thanks in advance,
    N.

  • Elusive Album Art

    Hello,
I recently made it a project to find and in some cases add my own album artwork for the entire list of music in my iTunes library (I have no life I know). In iTunes every track has a piece of album artwork to accompany it. On my iPod however there are about 20 albums whose artwork is just black. It isn't the grey music note that shows there is no album art downloaded but just a black square. I'm not sure why it is doing this because you can see the images perfectly fine in iTunes.
For Example: the song "Like a Stone" on the "Audioslave" album by Audioslave displays a black square on my ipod rather than the true album cover.
I am also finding that a few albums have the grey note as an image when in iTunes they have an actual picture. The albums with a grey note are weird because usually one or two of the songs on that album display the artwork when being played while the others do not and show the grey music note.
For Example: the album "Who's Next" by The Who.
Behind Blue Eyes - displays downloaded album art
Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again - displays grey music note
In the Coverflow view a grey note is displayed for the above album.
Any help would be excellent. Thanks.

    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.
*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exisits in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the abum, use CTRL-I or Option-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size.

  • Album art problems with Vision M 30

I've tried everything to add album art to my player, but it doesn't show on the player.
    I have:

  • Album art size in 5800 music player

I am experimenting with album art in MP3's on my 5800.
It seems as though the displayed size of album art while the track is playing varies with the size of the original jpeg attached into the mp3 file. Anybody else find this or a solution?
For example if I use the 600x600 pixels art downloaded from the iTunes music store, the pictures come out tiny on the 5800 but if I change them to 500x500 in size then they come up a lot bigger.
Furthermore if I go to a track which is displaying tiny artwork when I play it, in the Music Library and select it and choose Album art in the menu, the artwork comes up a lot bigger, filling the screen !!!! So the 5800 can resize the artwork to fill the screen but then screws up the resizing when you play the track. Very annoying.
I am using v20 firmware. Not sure whether this is an issue in previous firmware versions.

I figured it out, look here http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82694

  • Album art request for community

    Hello!
    If you can find
    Losing My Religion - EP
from your countrys iTunes store, could you change some songs info match it and get cover art.
Then could you copy the cover art from iTunes into paint or something else and make it PNG img and share it here.
I will give points to whoever gave the img.
I need it for my song, which is not available in my iTunes store.

As long as you choose anything above 600x600 for example 1000x1000 itunes will resize it accordingly.
I always aim for the larger sized album art because the resolution and therefore image quality is better.
Hope that helps.  ;o)  In the meantime this is the album art for the Out Of Time Album which contains losing my religion (originally it was at a higher resolution but as stated above itunes has resized it to 600x600)

  • HELP - Why won'y my album art show on iPhone?

My iTunes library has all of the album art in place and working just fine. But on my iPhone, most of the albums are showing no artwork.
How can I make the iPhone not be stupid?

If the previous doesn't fix things...
*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded or downloaded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from the first track to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists for the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
(Based on iPod Classic, but probably applies to iPhone also.)
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize a smallish image you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably a good minimum size. iTunes store art seems to be generally 600x600 which is probably a good maximum.
I've not, so far, been able to locate a script to automate the process of replicating art from a track that has it to other tracks of the same album without art (or work out how to write one) however if you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Control-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.

make sure you have the most current version of Media Explorer. (from the website)vision m is actually listed under mp3 players for future ref. i got all my album art from amazon.com.i just used the overall default of 500x500 pixels as the "standard" size to use in transfer.... mainly b/c thats what most album covers where from the site. pics that were smaller then that, i searched google image for the album cover. i used picture it 7.0 to resize image to 500x500 give or take a few pix off either way, keeping resize in proportion to each other. then save the image. *amazing site as well to get album art. again you will need to pic a size for album cover art.http://www.zero.co.nz/music/[color="#000099">?so with the most updated version of media explorer, just bring up the album view and pull over album art on top of blank album cover. it was very time consuming ( have not found way to cut down on time... the more you ahve the longer it takes to load up, ect.. ), that and i had ALOT of albums on there. but i am very very happy with the end result. like i said 500x500 looks great. just just me.
