Resize boot partition without loss of OS on C:\ drive and data loss on D:\ drive
I have an SBS 2011E server with a RAID 1 Mirror.
I need to resize the C:\ drive which has the OS on it.
The D:\ drive has lots of space on it but it also has a SQL Database that is ArchiOffice and some other minor software.
Can I shrink D: without loss of data and can I extend C: without loss of OS using Disk Management?
If I need third party software, which do I need?
Susan E. Russel
Hi Susie2229,
Based on your description, I test in my Lab environment. However, it seems that can’t achieve your target via
Disk Management.
I Shrink Volume on E drive via Disk Management. Then an unallocated partition occurred. It’s in the right of
E drive (if the unallocated partition is next to C drive, you may be able to extend volume). However, when I right click the C drive, the Extend Volume option is grey out. I can’t extend the C drive by using that unallocated partition. If my testing process
didn’t follow your original thoughts. Please feel free to let me know.
There is a similar thread that you can refer to. It may help you.
How to extend system drive partition (C:) to get more capacity

Just reminds. When
you do operations via some third-party software, please back up firstly. It will help us to avoid unexpected issues.
Hope this helps.

Is it possible to resize the partitions without losing data?
I have following issue:
I have dual-boot Arch with Windows XP. I created 4 partitions: 40GB XP's system disk (ntfs), 80GB ntfs data disk, 1GB swap and 25GB Linux partition.
But I am running XP so rarely, that it is frustrating, that I have most of my data on ntfs partition... I'd like to wipe out that 80GB ntfs, resize the system ntfs partition up to for example 60GB, and add the remaining 60GB to my linux ext3 partition (because I'm running out of free space recently...).
Has anyone done something like this, and how safe it is (if possible at all)
Yes, I have read this: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Res … _partition, and a few more.
I just don't have time to reinstall both systems (especially I would not like to install Windows, because I'd rather install Vista from my recovery disk, than hack the XP to work again...), and if some issues are likely to appear, then I'll give it up for now .It's trivial using gparted, but as with any similar operation, you run the risk of losing data - so you'd better backup.

Resizing a partition without unmounting
Is there a way to resize a partition that's mounted read-only, as opposed to unmounted? Parted doesn't seem up to the task.
Not looking good, Google seems to think no. Maybe you could order a Knoppix CD or see if you can suck up to someone here and try and get them to post an Archie CD to you. Even if it doesn't come with the tool you want, just install it.

N95 time and data loss after shutdown
Hi! I own an unlocked N95 mobile phone with firmware version 12.0.013. The problem is that after shutdown and restarts the time and date is lost. I have disabled the option to get the time from the network operator. I have read on other forums that many other users have this problem too. Is this hardware or a firmware problem? If it's a firmware problem, when can I expect a firmware update that will fix it? My second question: are there different firmware versions for each language, because the T9 dictionary is very unusefull in the Romanian language. Many frequent words are not recognized, other are misspell. Does a firmware include an updated dictionary too? In advance, thank you very match.
Hi,
I have the same problem. Am also on firmware V12.0.0.13 (what ever it is).
I dont know exactly when my problem with lossing the date and time started but I dont think it was after i changed firmware.
I think the problem started when I had to formated my phone. It was running slow and getting temprimental. In fact am sure the date and time loss thing all started after I formated the phone.
The date and time is the only info I loss when I remove the battery every thing else is ok. -
Time Machine External drive and data only [no OSX on it] partition both
are locked. I don't know what happened but think I might have done a Get Info and did an apply to enclosed = but if so, I was expanding access at the time to all readwrite and not restricting.
In any event, my TimeMachine external is now locked = even using Administrator login I can't open it. And my data partition which is separate from startup partition with OSX is also now locked.
I saw the following discussion tip but thought I would check lst - how do I handle this? If OSX is not on the data partition, fine and I'll follow those instructions but what about Time Machine which does have OSX somewhere on it, I assume.
I'm still running pre-SnowL. on this machine.
<http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2087835>No - I was scared to do so tile I knew for sure that I could apply the suggestion ref the OSX TimeMachien drive and the nonOSX data partition. I wanted to be really sure.
"Locked" means there's a little lock in the lower L hand corner of the icon and there is no checkbox for locking and the privileges are set to Custom and I can't get them to be changed to ReadWrite or whatever.
Before I jump into the terminal, just want to be very sure! Thanks much. -
GParted - Resizing boot partition etc.
Hi,
This is what my partitions currently look like:
I'm aiming to have my 'Archroot' partition resized to soak up the ~25GB before it and to have my Archhome partition soak up the 26GB after the swap parition.
The first problem I'm having is that when I went to resize/move the Archroot partition into that space the Gparted gave me warning about me possibly losing data/losing the ability to boot since this partition contains my grub stuff.
The second problem is the fact that my Archhome resize would have to involve removing the swap partition and replacing it again at the end of then newly resized Archhome position. Is it okay to do this?
Also note that the Archroot and Archhome partitions have reasonably important work on them and I don't want to lose any of it.
Thanks in advance,
Huge.hugecannon wrote:The first problem I'm having is that when I went to resize/move the Archroot partition into that space the Gparted gave me warning about me possibly losing data/losing the ability to boot since this partition contains my grub stuff.
Gparted always pops up warnings like that before it resizes stuff. Personally, I have never lost anything from resizing, but there is always a chance of that happening. I strongly suggest backing up important directories (like /etc and /home) before you do this, just because everyone should back up stuff. You'll thank me later when your disk drives crash.

Deleting swap and making it again later is totally fine, but you will have to do two things: first, type
swapoff -a
This will turn off your swap partition to make sure you aren't using it before you delete it. When you are done making the new swap partition, you will need to edit your /etc/fstab for the swap partition's new location ( /dev/sdbn ). Then just type
swapon -a
and you'll be good to go. -
Program that can resize a partition without formatting.
I know that there is one out there, but I can't find it again. Can anyone help me out?

External editor linking and data loss
Hello,
I know this has been discussed before, but there seems to be a bit of confusion in some of the posts here and I'd like a fresh answer, please
I'm using Photoshop as my external editor for iPhoto. When double-clicking a photo in iPhoto, one of three things will happen:
1) If the original photo was a RAW photo, it will open the RAW in PS. (I've chosen this function in iPhoto).
2) If the original photo was a jpg and it has NOT been edited at all, (this includes even rotating the photo), iPhoto will send the original jpg (from the "Originals" folder in iPhoto) to PS. I can double check this by choosing "Save As..." in PS to see the source directory.
3) If the original photo was a jpg and it HAS been edited, iPhoto will send the modified jpg (from the "Modified" folder in iPhoto) to PS. I can double check this by choosing "Save As..." in PS to see the source directory.
My questions are these:
- Is there anyway to always open the original photo with photoshop?
- Can't Apple come up with a more efficent way to rotate a photo without having to save an entirely new version of the photo in the "Modified" folder?
- (This is a toughy): I know that resaving a jpg in an image editing program like PS can recompress the jpg everytime you save, and this brings down the quality of the shot. When iPhoto saves a new rotated version of a jpg, does it lose quality as a second generation? I know that the file size changes, (2.8MB for the original, 2.1 for the modified), so has this new "Modified" jpg been recompresed?
Thanks for your help,

- Is there anyway to always open the original photo with photoshop?
Yes, duplicate the Original (Right click -> Duplicate) but there is no way to have multiple modifieds associated with a single Original. (however, this is possible in Aperture).
- Can't Apple come up with a more efficent way to rotate a photo without having to save an entirely new version of the photo in the "Modified" folder?
Im sure they can, but here's the thinking about it: iPhoto never changes the Original. Rotation is a change, so, the modification is made on a copy. Why should there be an exception for rotation? And if you make an exception for rotation, why not red-eye?

Not a toughy at all. Everytime you save a jpeg it is recompressed. Yes, data is thrown away as testified to by the file size.
What you're looking for here is lossless editing. From your questions, I think you're reaching the limit of iPhoto. It may be time to look at Aperture, which can do lossless editing, have a single Master associated with many versions etc. Definitely a learning curve...

Troubles with reformating Windows iPod to Mac and data loss
I'm completely lost. I've tried searching the support section of Apple.com and I've tried searching these message boards but I haven't been able to figure out what exactly I'm doing wrong...
I have a horrible Dell computer running Windows XP Home... the machine is just full of problems and I have a 20GB HP iPod that was originally formated for the windows machine.
I bought a G5 iMac almost 4 months ago and try as I might I cannot format the iPod to hold any information from my Mac (it just reads the information from my Dell and will copy that to the Mac) and I even lost all of my non-purchased songs on my iPod the first time I tried to switch it.
Does anyone have any information that might help...? Thanks (and I'm sorry for posting what probably is an annoying question!)
iMac G5 (May '05) Mac OS X (10.4.5)i'm having the same problem. i had a del, bought a new powerbook g4, got all my music transferred...but i can't get my ipod to sync up. if you have found anything out, please help me out.
thank you. -
Exporting Cross-Tab to Excel using RAS 9.0 - incorrect and data loss
Hello,
Hope somone can help to solve the following issue.
Develop a cross-tab report using Crystal Report Developer 9.0. service pack 5 or above.
(1). Viewing in Crystal Report - no problem - all rows and columns displayed correctly.
(2). Export to Excel using Crystal Report - no problem - all rows and columns exported correctly.
(3). Viewing in RAS 9.0 - no problem, all rows and columns displayed correctly.
(4). Export to Excel using RAS 9.0 - problem - only one or two rows with last rows are exported but wrong data. Most columns are not exported. Seems like exporting errors.
RAS 9.0 was patched with hotfix 200603 and service pack 5.
Please help or is there any hotfix or service pack that resolved this problem? As developer, we can use crystal report for exporting but for users, their only choice is through RAS.
Thank you very much! Please re-post if this is still an issue to the .NET Development - Crystal Reports Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly

Question on switch-version and data loss
Hi,
In reading info around the web, I do find and understand that any changes made to configuration of an upgraded CUCM node will be lost if they were made after upgrade but before switch-version. I was wondering if CDR files/database were also grouped into this, or if those are copied over when switch-version is executed.Hi,
CDR records will be lost, only user facing features are preserved. Please check the following post

2014.3 Update causing crashes and data loss
I have recently update to Adobe Muse 2014.3 edition. Since then I have been experiencing many crashes, difficulty saving and file corruption. I was not sure if it was Muse or Mac Os errors until now. I can confirm my Mac is in good working order.
See attached screen capture for the latest problem - cannot save a file after making edits. Muse feezes on save.
Is it possible to reinstall the previous version of Muse? I cannot complete work reliably with the new update.
CYThe update fixed the problem, however I am now encountering a new one.
Uploading to ftp locations slows dramatically at about 60% progress, by about 70% progress I get the Mac spinning wheel, sometimes the transfer will progress incredibly slow, or Muse will freeze.
Today I could complete an ftp transfer and muse crashed. See attached screen capture.
I am now exporting html and then uploading va ftp app however when exporting I am still seeing a dramatic slow down at some point after 60%.
I am also seeing the following message pop up in web browsers (see attached image). I have been seeing this message a lot since the first update 2014.3
I thought these problems may be have related to my ISP, however I am in a different country now using two different IPS's but the errors still remain.

Long Beep tone at startup - Unable to select boot partition
Recently I was running a software update on an old G4 which had been working perfectly. When the system restarted it made a long beep tone then the usual bong. The system hung at the "starting login window" stage.
The beep is not a bad RAM beep, that one is short. This is a long beep like one you get when you update firmware.
Tried taking out and reseating the RAM but that did nothing.
After booting into OF a couple of times, doing "Reset All", Zapping PRAM etc. we still the get tone at startup only now we just get the white OF screen. It no longer tries to boot into OSX unless we type "Mac Boot", in which case it hangs at the login window again.
I attached an external drive with two partions, one with 10.3.9 and another with 10.4. Both will boot successfully on my old Pismo and my PB G4. When the OF screen came up I typed Mac Boot and held down the Option key. The blue screen came up and first boot partition was displayed, but the machine sat there and spun forwever searching for the others. I figured it was stuck on the internal drive so I disconnected the ribbon cable and tried again. This time both partions on the external drive are available, Yae! However when I go to select either one and click on the right arrow nothing happens. The selection seems to bounce back to the first partition. And through all of this the long beep tone is there at startup.
So thats the stage we are at. If anyone can shed some light on this situation we would be most appreciative. What is causing the tone? How can I fix it?
Why doesnt the system accept the boot drive selection?
MikeHi Petra,
It was one of the recent security updates for 10.3.9 along with Quicktime, iTunes etc. I couldn't tell you exactly which ones as its been a few weeks since the original event. However I can say that I had already done the recommended firmware update for that machine several months before the crash. -
Placing OS image and Data image on right partition
Hi ,
We are facing issue in placing right image at the right partition.
We have OS image and data image. We are formatting and partitioning HDD as 40% (OSDisk) and remaining 100% as (Data). Both paritioons are active and selected as primary.
Then in installing operating system step, i have selected place image based on variable 'OSDisk'
and Data image is also slected to be placed based on variable 'Data'.
TS finishes without any issues but when i login to the machine i can see that OSDisk has become 'D' Drive and Data Drive has become 'C' so it shows C drive with label as 'Data' and D drive is label as 'OSDisk'
I want to place OS on C drive and Data drive should always be as 'D' drive.
I have tried another method and this time i tried to install OS as 'place based on stored variable i.e. OSDisk but install data image as next available partition but with this placement OS never boot after restart and TS eventually fails.
My aim is to make 'C' drive contain OS image and 'D' Drive to containg data image content and not the otherway around as it is happening with current test.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,Hi ,
Yes it is Config manager 2012 R2 but image is actually not source media install.wim. It a custom captured image through MDT2013. Image has 1 partition only.
However I tried the above solution but drive letters are still not coming correct for OSDisk and Data Drive. Data is coming on 'C' drive and OSDisk is coming at 'D' drive.
