Resize individual shapes to a specified size?

Hi there,
Does anyone know of a way, by script, action or other means of resizing an individual shape or path to a specified dimension in inches (or any other unit of measurement) without drawing the shape externally in Illustrator and bringing it back into PS or without opening a new doc at the desired size and copy/pasting back into your first document.
I've never really considered this as a problem to be solved until a co-worker asked me how to do it. The two solutions above were my only replies to this question. Have I missed some other solution that uses ONLY PS CS3?
Thanks,
-JM

That's true, Buko.
But what may disappoint the newcomer is finding out that the resizing will be based on the size of the rectangular bounding box that surrounds the selected shape or path.
So if you have a 100px square that's rotated, the bounding box is going to report a different, larger size. You'd have to measure, check the angle "de-rotate" to perpendicular, and then make a change.
Some things just aren't as easy as we'd like them to be, and we have to do the work.

  • Is it possible to resize individual slides?

    Hi!
    I'd need some help with my movie:
    I'm recording a program that opens multiple windows in
    different sizes, some of these are non-resizeable dialog boxes.
    What I'd like to do is to always show the current window in
    the height of my movie. In the remaining left and right side areas,
    I'd like to show a black background.
    So basically, the whole thing would look something like this:
    Main movie is 800x600 pixels.
    I show the application's main window in this size.
    Then I launch another window in the application, and instead
    of the window's original size (let's say 600x700) I show it resized
    to the movie's height.
    Is this possible with Captivate?
    Thank you!

    I don't remember there being a way to resize individual
    slides within
    Captivate. I usually use PhotoShop or Fireworks for granular
    changes like
    that.
    With no access to PhotoShop or similar, I'd build/scale the
    'smaller' slides
    in a separate Captivate movie then copy/paste them into the
    the 800x600 one.

  • The menu widget doesn't allow me to resize individual buttons!!!

    Hi!
    Since the latest update to muse, the menu widget just goes nanners!
    It does not matter whether I untick 'edit together' and select 'unifor spacing' I still can't seem to resize individual buttons like I used to with muse 5 or 6. Furthermore, the menu widget will start resizing itself like crazy back and forth in any direction even if I slowly drag the vertical size up/down and so on.
    What is going on?
    I have a client waiting for his website and I can't even use the thing anymore since Jan 22 update (which I just installed today). I'll still work around it as it's not the actual menu I need anyway, just something to overlay over a photoshop bar to link to pages, but it still bothers me a lot that the widget is utterly useless now.
    Any ideas?

    Hi RimVai!
    I repeat, you must build up every button separately and link each button in Hyperlinks to the right Page as you did on video.
    Please follow the instructions:
    1.  At first make only "Home Page".
    2.  Go to "Master Page".
    3.  Copy "Home Page" and paste it on "Master Page" by using Paste in Place feature.
    4.  Drag "Copy Home Page" to the right and you can edit "Copy Home Page" as you want.
    5.  Add "Copy Home Page" on Plan Mode and change the name of the Page.
    6.  Link Pages in "Hyperlinks" to the right Pages.
    Best Regards

  • Resize custom shapes that I have downloaded

    Hi, I have downloaded some  scroll picture frames as custom shapes.   but on draging over picture they are thick and huge.   can i alter the size of custom shapes.  I have tried doing on a separate layer and when these particular shapes there is no size in the tools options. I have cs5 I would like to be able to make something like this thinner or the actual frame smaller but still be able to go from corner to corner on pic.
    many thanks Denise

    Hi
    with the  original message I did do a screen shot from snipping tool , but answers says forum cannot accept email atatments, so not sure how to do.  I inserted it through the camera icon just above on this message form.
    so I will try this again
    the scroll frame  I used this time may be a little different.  I make a newblank layer to put this frame on and I don't have any difficulty adding a colour to frame, I want to be able to still get frame to fit corner to corner but make it thinner.  ? may be they are a set size.
    thanks Denise

  • How do I resize multiple shapes and their paths?

    I can only ever resize the shapes one frame at a time, will I have to remove the keyframes and do them again?

    Tweens are designed to animate a variety of properties, scale being one of many. If you click on the symbol and resize it, then go several frames and resize it again, you'd expect Flash to animate the resize, right? That's just Flash doing what it's supposed to.
    If you go inside the symbol and resize the contents it will do what you want.

  • Is it possible to move/resize individual objects in Compound Clipping Path in Illustrator?

    Hi,
    I have created a Compound Clipping Path in Adobe Illustrator, and wonder if there is a way of moving/resizing individual objects in this path that create the mask? At the moment when I try to change just one object it changes them all.
    Essentially I am try to make fine adjustments to the mask.
    Thanks in advance for any help,
    Nick

    Adobe updated masks in CS4, which has made to editing inidividual contents within masks more difficult, especially more complex masks (eg: nested)
    When you select a mask now you select the mask and the contents. 5 ways to help you select the elements within the mask:
    To get into the contents to edit them use the "Edit Contents" button (the 2nd one in the top left).
    Flip down your layers palette triangles, to try and make selections there
    Individually select items with the hollow arrow tool or group select tool, and hide them, then unhide to have the sum of the elements selected.
    Save back to CS3 and work in CS3
    Isolation Mode (though that mode is preferred disabled by many users)
    Be careful as if you ever release a mask, this can entirely mess up your layeringorder on occasion, and undo won't help. Save before releasing a mask, sometimes you can undo, sometimes undo will not be abel to reconstruct you layer order.

  • Shape builder tool changing sizes?

    Hello,
    I am using shape builder tool a lot to clean up dxf files generated from cad programs, where there are a lot of loose/open paths. I just noticed that when I join paths with the shape builder tool, the size of the form changes slightly. This effect is not occuring if I join the same paths with the slower step-by-step join command, and I can't see the reason for those minor size deviations?
    Is there a way to change some settings to get rid of this effect?
    Br, Jörgen

    I get a similar result if the strokes have an effect, such as "rounded corner" applied to them. Taking off the effect before using Shape Builder eliminates the issue.

  • Which method specify size of the director?

    I want to specify size of the director. which method need to use?

    length() !
    As far as I know, you will need to recurse the directory yourself and add up the sizes! Do this with great care! You'll need to be sure that each File is a file and not a directory; you'll have to decide how to handle nested directories -- recurse on those as well or do something else -- and you'll also have to be aware of symbolic liks which may return the length of the liked file and throw off your math!
    Sounds tedious. I looked through the API and I don't see anything there that does this for you.

  • Why TextFrames does not get exactly specified size?

    Hi, I'm experiencing the following problem:
    when I create some TextFrames and specify size using this code below:
    Illustrator.CharacterStyle curStyle = curDok.CharacterStyles.Add("ColorText" + text.Id.ToString());
    charAttr.Size = Convert.ToInt32(text.Size * 2.5F);
    charAttr.TextFont = newFont;
    curTextFrame.Contents ="SOME TEXT";
    curTextFrame.Top = 200;
    curTextFrame.Left = 200;
    curTextFrame.Height = 1000;
    curTextFrame.Width = 2000;
    curStyle.ApplyTo(curTextFrame.TextRange, false);
    I get different TextFrames size, when I save image into some file format(I've tried .eps and pdf). For example, if I specife 2000 width of th frame and create few frames with different text, they all get different sizes, some of them becomes 2300 width, etc. Is this some type of scaling, or what?
    P.S. If you have some code(in any language), that creates TextFrames, and they get exactly specified size, please, post it here. Thank you.

    If you don't need to be able to edit the text here is some code that should work. Worked for me using CS2 and Visual C# 2008.
    Illustrator.Application ai = new Illustrator.Application();
    Illustrator.Document doc = ai.Documents.Add(AiDocumentColorSpace.aiDocumentCMYKColor, 100, 100);
    Illustrator.CharacterStyle curStyle = doc.CharacterStyles.Add("ColorText");
    Illustrator.TextFont textFont = ai.TextFonts["Arial-Black"];
    int textSize = 20;
    curStyle.CharacterAttributes.Size = Convert.ToInt32(textSize);
    curStyle.CharacterAttributes.TextFont = textFont;
    Illustrator.TextFrame curTextFrame = doc.TextFrames.Add();
    curTextFrame.Contents = "SOME TEXT";
    curStyle.ApplyTo(curTextFrame.TextRange, false);
    Illustrator.GroupItem textGroup = curTextFrame.CreateOutline();
    textGroup.Top = 200;
    textGroup.Left = 200;
    textGroup.Height = 1000;
    textGroup.Width = 2000;
    Hope this helps.

  • Powershell, Open Explorer.exe at a specified window location and specified size

    Is it possible for powershell to open explorer.exe at a specified location (i.e. top 0 left 0) and a specified size (i.e height 400, width 600)? There are a number of options for IE but (that I can see or work out none of there transpose into the File

  • How to resize photoshop image without changing canvas size?

    When i had the older versions of photoshop i would change the image size and it would enlarge on my canvas for me to rearrange. Lately i realized on CC when i increase image size so does my canvas size. Is there anyway to prevent my canvas size from increasing too?

    I am having what appears to be this same issue.    I am using PS CC.
    hello @ c.pfaffenbichler
    I resized my image in image> image size.
    Details:
    I am not a ps expert but woefully self taught.  However through much trial and error I have in my experience over the years, achieved some comfortability with the image size dialog box as well as the canvas size dialog box.  SOME comfortability lol.  That is, I feel that I understand what is going on most of the time and when flummoxed have studied adobe literature or read hundreds of posts here and elsewhere to gain additional knowledge which many times resolves the issue.  I like digging and finding the answers.
    In this case, my digging is done dug a giant hole and I am exhausted and found nuthin'.
    I feel like I am going nutso.
    In my mind,
    1.  There is the image I am working on
    2.  There is the canvas the image is sitting on
    My expectation and previous experience is that I can change the Image size by going to Image > image size and this change does not affect the canvas size.
    My expectation and previous experience is that I can go to Image >canvas size and change the canvas size and this does not affect the image size.
    I could also use the Transform to resize the image which also, would not in my expectation, change the canvas size.
    In the beginning of my workflow on this particular collage I did not have this issue,  so that leads me to believe I did or am doing something to cause this rather than it being some kind of bug.    But what do I know.
    I thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Keyframing opacity of individual shapes in Premiere Pro CS4

    Hello,
    I'm working on a video that involves some panels and lines of text that I have to mosaic for privacy reasons. Since I'm still on a beginner level, I'm using the title and matte key method to achieve the mosaic effect, which I learned from video tutorials over the net.
    The panels' locations are static, and even though the lines might move upwards, they still are in predetermined locations. Also, when and which panels and lines should be hidden varies throughout the video. So I have to toggle mosaic over those areas if I am to retain visible areas as much as possible. I added a picture just in case I wasn't very clear. Think of the left  part as the first frame and the right part as the next one. The grey  areas are "mosaic-able", and the black parts are mosaiced.
    I first tried seperating "mosaic-able" areas into three, and toggling the duplicate video opacities at certain times. But not only this caused a mosaic overkill over the area that contains the lines, I also think there should be an easier way to do it.
    So I wondered if I could create multiple shapes on a single title and toggle the opacity of those individual shapes on the title at given times. I then should toggle the opacity of the duplicate video as well (at least I think so), but it's not a big problem. Is there any way to achieve this, or a completely different approach to this whole situation?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I've had trouble with layers too, changing them and I really havent figured out the solution as I dont really use it that much...like every day...
    I think that sometimes when you add a new layer to a psd file in project panel it gets weird sometimes too...
    I think I even copied a layer to a new file and named the new file something totally different and something weird happend to the old psd link...
    Knowing that, I will sometimes just make a new psd file using the guides and stuff from the first one ( like open it just to double chk the positions -but not chng anything to the orignal- just close it) ---gets a little tricky sometimes having to totally clear psd's that got wanky and bring in new ones...
    dont know if this helps at all..but I do this generally..
    for titles: open new psd with transparent background, add new layer called "black" ..fill it with black...add new layer for my first real "work" layer, lets say a title called " DIRECTED BY"...in offwhite (tv hates pure white and black) - maybe 10-15 points off max...like 240,240,240 instead of 255,255,255...and 15,15,15, instead of ),0,0,0...soooo, I name that layer directed by...but cant see it well without the black background...and I go on making layers...then I unlick the black eyeball save the psd and import it....
    I use the same temp black background for your sort of mattes ( I do the shapes in pure white and black ) and when done unclick the temp black background, save, import, then use "track matte" to make them invisible...usually without actually using the "tracking" part of the effect...just to turn it on...
    and of course, like you had "grey", use tones of gray for partial transparency  ( transluscent )....

  • Resizing Individual Images

    I am almost completely new to the Photoshop family, and I have been searching help guides, the forum, websites ect. for hours, to find out how to rezise one image on a collage. For instance, I have a picture of myself, and a picture of the beach, but the beach is very tiny and I am large. How do I change the size? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I can tell you how to quickly resize one image in a collage, and I will. However, since you say you're new to this, the description makes me wonder if you're using the correct term. A collage (to me anyway) describes separate images combined so they continue to be discreeet but can be printed as one picture. If that's what you want to do:
    Select the Move tool and click on that photo in the collage. You'll get handles that will allow you to move, expand, or contract a specific image just by dragging at the corner.
    However, this only works if the various images in the collage are still on individual layers. If it's been merged or flattened, you can't access the various pieces any more.
    Since you say you have a picture of yourself and a picture of a beach, are you wanting to know how to make it look like you're at the beach? If so, that's a different kind of process.
    If my suggestion doesn't do what you want, repost and tell us what your goal is. Also include both the dimensions and resolution of each of the two pictures. The variation in size is making me think they are quite different.

  • Resizing a shape I created

    I created a shape which I plan on re-using over and over. It is basically a box with a diagonal line and some text in it. I saved it in a my shapes template. When I drag it into a blank sheet it is fine. When I try to resize it everything falls apart.
    The box will get smaller but the diagonal line stays the same and the text goes to two lines instead of one. I tried making everything one layer, locking it but that doesn't allow me to change the size. I need all items to shrink / expand at the same aspect
    ratio.

    Shapes looked at and fixed, it was a grouped shape but the diagonal line had absolute coordinates instead of being related to the group shape.
