Resizing a photo on export

I am trying to resize a photo so that it will print as an 8x10 without losing any of the image due to cropping. I set the image sizing in export to be a width and height of w=8 and h=10. When i export it, i still get the same crop that it would have if i uploaded an un-resized photo. I am uploading the file to Mpix.com.
Am i doing this wrong or what? I can't get my photo to print in an 8x10. I know about my camera taking a 2x3 ratio photo.
Thanks,
Brian

In the print screen, select print to jpg. Setr the custom file dimensions to 8 X 10. Set sharpening, media type, ppi and colour management according to the paper being printed on (if you don't have a paper profile use sRGB). Set the grid at 1 row and 1 column. Pull your Cel size to maximum. You will now see your print uncropped as it will be on 8 X 10 paper with borders. If you wish to see how it will apear if you filled the paper select zoom to fill. You can also set borders etc. here.
When finished print to file and send the jpg file to the printer.

is it possible to resize a photo in iPhoto--controlling the maximum dimensions and the dpi?

The dpi depends on the print size you'll be making. This explains it in detail:  The Myth of DPI.
A 300 dpi image for a 4x6 print will have fewer pixels in it than a 300 dpi image for an 8. 10 print.
You can set the pixel dimension of a photo by exporting it via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and use the Custom size setting.  However, you should crop the photo to the size ratio you want before exporting, i.e 4 x 6, 5 x 7, etc.  Then set the maximum pixel size you want for the image:

  • How does one resize a photo to the dimensions required by a contest?

How does one resize a photo in aperture to the dimensions required by contest?

Are you submitting a print or a file?
You set the size of your print in the print dialog.
You set the number of pixels (the unit of linear measurement of digital images is the pixel) for a file when you create that file by exporting an Image from your Library. You can specify a recommended number of Pixels per Inch by using the (mis-named) DPI field in the Image Export Preset you use when you export.
The files you import have a height and width in pixels.  Height/width = the Aspect Ratio.  You can crop to any aspect ratio using Aperture's Crop tool.
What are the specs required by the contest's sponsors?
Message was edited by: Kirby Krieger -- added aspect ratio and cropping.

  • How to resize a photo?

    Hello Everybody!
I want to resize a photo (change the number of pixels) while I'm browzing through my pictures in iPhoto.
For that I have two questions:
    1. Is there a way to resize a photo in iPhoto?
    2. If not, how do I set the "Edit in external editor" program when I right click (ctrl-click) a photo? Usually this option is grayed out and I don't know how to make it accessable.
    Cheers & Thanks!

This wasn't the question I was looking for, but it's been one I have wished for. When I export the picture and select the new size I then am given a window where I rename the new image and then direct where it should go. The default appears to be where I LAST saved a picture. I would like it to go where the original image is stored (I'm afraid I am still in my PC mode as I've only very recently decided to give Gates the gate!)
I navigate to my iPhoto library and have a choice of Originals, modified, iPod photo cache (woops, not THERE!), and Data. In each of those folders are only dated folders ... hmmm. I see. Wait a sec. Okay, I dig further into 2002 and discover the folder the original is in. I select that. But it doesn't appear in my iPhoto screen. Lemme see... Well, I see. I put it into "DATA/folder/folder." I'll put it into "Original/folder/folder" ... hmm. It says that it's already there and do I want to replace it. Well, if it were there, why don't I see it in my library?
Okay, now just a sec... bear with me. SOrry to go on here but a lot of this is confusing to an old PC head.

then dozens of albums I am currently trying to make from importing 86000 pictures from my PC.
I brought over the entire file structure from the PC onto a folder on my Mac desktop... hmmm. So... maybe I should save the new picture in THAT folder? I'm not sure I'm not COPYING the photo to iPhoto or POINTING iPhoto to that folder.
What was the question I was looking for? That's another of my problems...

Select the file in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. In the resulting dialogue select Kind: Jpeg and then you can use the Size: Choose 'Custom' from the drop down menu and set it to 100 x 100.
Complete the export to the desktop.

  • Resizing portrait photos for Premiere

I am placing resized (1000x750) photos into Premiere 13 for a video/slide show. I understand resizing for landscape photos, but how do I resize portrait photos to import into Premiere?

It's not  an issue as I can export to a new size correctly with iPhoto 9.4.3.
Tried export size Large, as well as Custom with a Maximum Dimension of 1280. Same problem.
That does not affect pixel dimensions. It only changes the amount of jpeg compression that is applied to the file which affects file size, not image size.
I suggest you update your system to 10.8.3 with the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 (Combo) updater and update your iPhoto to the latest, 9.4.3.  Then give it a try again.
Also you can give this a try first: Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Resizing multiple photos in Photoshop

  • Gallery App Help/Lost ability to control whether to resize a photo when emailing

When emailing photos and using the Gallery App I had the option to resize or not. I could select a new size and select "Always" or "Just Once". I don't have the option anymore and I really need to get it back. What do I do?
    Example:
I'd begin to compose an email and then I'd select add an attachment & it would take me to the list & I'd select "Picture" at the top of the list on the right hand side. It would take me to the Gallery App where I could select a photo. Before attaching it I would get asked if I wanted to resize it or not along with resizing options to select from. I could use for example like small, medium, and large just by selecting the toggle I wanted. It would also ask "Just Once" or "Always". I think somewhere I may have accidentally hit "always" when I was in a rush & I did not know it. Now all my photos are resized when emailing them and I don't get a choice. I want the choice back not having photos always resized.
I have an LG phone if that makes a difference.
What do I do? Please help!
    Thanks

I don't get an error message. The Gallery App automatically resizes the
photos when I try to email them. I had the option to resize or not resize
and it would come up as "Just Once" or "Always" and I could pick the size
of the phone like, original, large, medium, small. I like being in control
of the photos I email from my phone. I have not had any recent software
updates. Under About Phone it says phone name: VS980 4G LTE and when I send
emails it reads at the bottom "Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone"

  • How do I resize a photo in iphoto and keep it in iphoto library

So in windows I can resize a photo and leave it where it is.  Why can't I do this in iphoto?

So in windows I can resize a photo and leave it where it is.  Why can't I do this in iphoto?
iPhoto - either on your Mac or on IOS devices, is designed as an application with a lossless workflow. All adjustments and edits are guaranteed to be reversible. You will always be able to revert to the original  image. And that would be impossible, if iPhoto allowed you to clandestinely exchange the image file in the place where the photo is stored. iPhoto would not know how to undo the changes you did without using iPhoto to do them. If you do not need a digigal assets management program with a lossless workflow, don't use iPhoto - then you'd be better off with something like Picasa.

  • Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?

Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?  Changing the quality of the print changes the size of the saved file and thus impacts the speed at which it is moved on the internet.  But other than size of the file, what is the advantage of changing the quality?

I have no idea why you would want to do anything
Some people want lower quality to reduce file size for different reasons
It is an option - if you do pot want to do that do not use that option

  • After resizing a photo and viewing in album picture offsets to one side and crashes ios7

After resizing a photo using the edit function , viewing the photo in camera roll
Offsets the picture to one side so its not in the middle , zoom into the pic and zoom back out
The black borders appear at the top and bottom and all looks in centre
But when i flick back and forward through my pics and get back to my
First pic i resized it offsets to one side and the camera roll crashes and freezes

Since you can't drag a photo when viewing in the large mode you can try the following:
1 - make sure the Info drawer on the right side is displayed.
2 - click on a photo and hit the Space bar.
3 - click on the Full Screen button at the lower left.
Now you're in full screen mode with the Info drawer at the right.
4 - either set the rating of the photo to one that you can use to group in a smart album (Command-1 for 1 star, Command-2 for 2 starts, etc.) or add a keyword that can also be used to group the photos in a smart album.
5 - use the right or left arrow keys on the keyboard to move to the next or previous photos.
6 - when complete go to the smart album and drag the photos into a regular album.

  • Can a photo be exported from aperture in CMYK profile

Can a photo be exported from aperture in CMYK profileas TIFF jpeg PSD etc .?

Yes, in the export dialogue panel pick a TIFF or PSD setting, and then set the colorsync profile selector to a cmyk-profile,
    You need to have installed cmyk-profiles, however;
most of my colorsync profiles were installed by photoshop.
You will find the cmyk-profiles in the system library:
