Resizing a project in Captivate 7

Hi,
I am currently having problems when I try to rescale my project in Captivate 7. I recorded my simulation and the dimensions are 1337x812. I am trying to reduce it to around 720x437 because I will need to import it on articulate.
When I try to rescale the project, the background image becomes distorted. Text on the background image become unreadable.
I've read the thread regarding resizing in captivate 5 and the solutions shared there are not working on my end. Maybe there is a different way to solve this problem in captivate 7.

Hello,
Can you explain what your work flow was? Rescaling will always lead to a decrease in quality inevitably. The original width/height ratio is 1,6465.... very strange ratio. The new one is close but not the same, decimals are different. I think that is one of your problems. Why did you capture in that strange resolution at the first place? Try at least to keep the same width/height ratio when rescaling.

  • Why do resized smaller projects become so blurry

    Hello,
Why, when resizing a project smaller, do both the text and
graphics end up smaller. I'm also scratching my head about why the
text in the text captions doesn't scale down with the rest of the
project. It ends up looking freakishly large in comparison, forcing
a redo on the text size across the board. But more importantly, the
whole project takes on a blur, which doesn't make sense since you
are reducing the image -- logic says quality shouldn't drop on a
down -- and the file actually ends up being larger than the
original, despite its reduced pixel dimensions.
    So why the blur?
    Thanks

    Hi Yogambo
Blurring occurs because of the inherent way Bitmap (or
Raster) images are constructed. Essentially, these are nothing more
than a collection of colored dots. The dots are referred to as
PixEls. (a contraction of Picture Elements)
If you shrink a bitmapped image, the computer has to
recalculate what colors the dots are, because essentially some are
being removed. The result of this is that the clarity begins to
    suffer.
As for why the text in captions doesn't get scaled down,
there are options that you can set to tell Captivate to leave those
elements alone when resizing. Odds are, this option told Captivate
to leave the Captions as is.

  • Deleting a project in Captivate 5

How do I delete a project in Captivate 5 rather than just deleting the slides associated with it?

You can delete Adobe Captivate projects (CPTX files) or templates (CPTL) at any time. When you create Adobe Captivate projects and templates, they are saved, by default, to the following locations:
Projects are saved in \My Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects. If you are using Windows® Vista®, the path is \Users\<Current User>\Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects.
Templates are saved in \My Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects\Templates. If you are using Windows Vista, the path is \Users\<Current User>\Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects\Templates.
To delete projects or templates, perform the following steps.
    Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the location of the Adobe Captivate project or template (see the default locations listed previously).
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the project or template and select Delete.

    Rajeev.

  • How can I convert .cp projects from Captivate 2 to .cptx projects for Captivate 7?

How can I convert .cp projects from Captivate 2 to .cptx projects for Captivate 7? Do I have to use some other version between 2 and 7 to do this?

I doubt you are going to be able to find all those previous versions and the time it would take to install, open the project, verify it, and everything in between (and without license keys, they would only be saved from trial versions which would be an issue), it seems it would be better just to start with Cp7 and put the effort into that.
Completely off topic, one of the things I like about Authorware is that Macromedia provided previous versions that would allow you to open up and save the projects to get to version 7. It was a nice little touch they provided for developers. I don't believe that Adobe does this for Captivate though.

  • Can't Open Captivate 3 Project in Captivate 2

I created a Captivate 3 movie and now I need to open and edit
it in Captivate 2 on a separate PC. When I try to open it I'm asked
if I want to Save As or Overwrite the file, odd for a file >
opening process. Regardless, I get a message back that the file is
unsupported or damaged. This occurs with two separate movies, so I
    doubt that's the case.
    Help!

Hi Mill Creek Guy and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, you cannot open Captivate projects from a
newer version in an older. The only path that works is when moving
    from older to newer.
One possible way around this is by creating a totally fresh
blank project in Captivate 2 that is sized identically to the one
you created in 3. Then you open both Captivate 2 and Captivate 3 on
the same PC. Copy slides from the newer to the older. Of course, if
you used features of Captivate 3 that Captivate 2 doesn't know
about, you may see some odd behavior.

  • Project in Captivate 3

Hello everyone! I created a short fun project in Captivate 3 and placed it on my website. Will anyone be kind enough to try and open the project? My goal is to insure the output is correct for those with Captivate 4 & 5. Below is a direct link. Click the "Exercises" tab from the tool bar and a tab titled "A Nice Vacation Spot" will appear to the left. Click the tab and it will take visitors directly to 3 options. The first is a CP file. Thanks in advance!

    Hello again
From your description it would seem that perhaps you didn't get all the right files uploaded. As I explained earlier, Captivate should create multiple files. You need to upload all of them. Well, all but the .CP file. And you need to ensure that they are all in the same folder.
Then you point at the .HTM file to make things work.
It's sort of a house of cards. Take away any single component and the whole thing collapses. The empty white screen seems to indicate that it's not finding the .JS file.
Don't sweat support advising that it's too old. Often, support likes to only deal with the latest and greatest and they use that old line to entice you to upgrade. Upgrading is cool and a good thing if it will address issues or offer functionality you want, but it likely won't help in this case.
So try my suggestions out and let us know how they work for you.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing Captivate CS3 project into Captivate CS5.5

Our company has a number old projects that were created and saved in Adobe Captivate CS3.  We need up update the material using Captivate CS5.5; however, they will not open in this version.  We believe it may be due to older Flash files and the drop in support of AS2 files.  We can open these projects in Captivate CS4, then CS5.5, but this is not a long term solution for us.  Is there a converter or some other option available???   Thank you very much.

Apart from opening Captivate files with other Captivate versions has you have already done, there is no other solution for upgrading your projects.
Bite the bullet and do this immediately to get your projects into CPTX format files.  Cp7 or later versions will not open .cp format files.  Only CPTX.  So since you appear to currently have Cp versions that will open your old Cp3 files, you are best advised to do this right away.  Otherwise your next upgrade to Cp7 or Cp8 later this year could see you tossing all courses built in the older Cp format.

    There is any compatibility solution?

How can I save a captivate 8 project in captivate 5 format?

That is just impossible. You never can save a CP-file to a lower version.

  • Is there any way to open a Captivate 5 project in Captivate 4?

Looking at the issues of opening Captivate 4 projects in Captivate 5 I'm guessing trying to do it the other way is even less of a possibility?
Basically I have produced a product in CP5 that we are looking to pass on to a different organisation, however they use CP4.
Is there anything we can do this end to save it in a compatibility mode or something?
    Thoughts?

  • Why I cannot preview my responsive layout project with captivate 8?

I can not preview my responsive layout project in captivate 8.  It just stop on the first page.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
Do you get the issue every time you create a responsive project? Can you just crease 2-3 slides with smart shapes and text caption; publish and check if there is still any error?
There are chances that the issue might be with the browser, which browser are you using to preview the content?
Chrome version 36 has similar issues with captivate html5 output. Please find the following workaround if you are using Chrome.

  • What is the process for resizing a project (smaller)?

Hi, I have a project that I've been working on that is 960 x 600. On some screens, my progress bar at the bottom gets cut off. I'd like to make it a little shorter to compensate for this. In Photoshop, I would just resize the canvas a little. It doesn't seem like Captivate has an option like that.
The best idea I can come up with is creating a new project with proper dimensions, creating new blank slides, and copying the content from the current project and pasting it into the new (smaller) project. Is that the best way?
It also occurs to me that the .htm file that Captivate creates leaves a this white border on the left and top of my project (7 pixels each direction). I wonder if I can get rid of that??
Luckily, my project is small, only seven slides.
    Thanks for any advice!

You can get rid of the white border entirely by putting some CSS code into the HEAD of the Captivate HTM template used to publish your movie.
    The code looks like this:
    <style>body {margin:0px;}</style>
Place this code just before the </head> tag in the relevant template at:  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\Templates\Publish
If you're not using SCORM, the template here is called standard.htm
If using SCORM, open the SCORM folder at this location and find your 1.2 or 2004 template.
That should give you an extra bit of room to play with and it looks a lot cleaner too when the movie goes edge to edge.

  • 'Close Project' in Captivate 4 not working

    Hi,
I have a number of projects where I set the preferences to close the project, and it works in some and not others.
I have a slide with a 'Done' button.  When the user clicks it, it goes to another slide with nothing on it but the background and a text caption from the previous screen, and it is set for only one second.  Some of these projects close perfectly; others delete the text caption and leave the project open.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, as always.

Hmmm, it was intended to show you that you simply cannot rely on the different means of closing the window. Close Project and the Exit button are essentially the same action, no? Perhaps I should amend the note so it specifically also mentions the action of Close Project.
The thing is, unless you are presenting your Captivat using EXE format, you are seeing a very generic overall issue with closing a browser window. And closing browser windows is inherently fraught with issues and seldom works as one would expect. The only way to make it work as you want most of the time is to ensure you always open the window using JavaScript so it's a child window. When you open in this manner you have more control over the behavior of the child window and can usually close it at will.

  • How to open an HTML page that is part of my project using Captivate 6

I'm looking to create an HTML page that will use some javascript to extract information from Captivate and then render it to the browser window as a report.
I see how you can Open a  URL webpage from Captivate (by putting in an explicit address ie www.abc.com   or http://www.abc.com/myReport.html)
but I'm curious what address I can use if the html file is in the SAME folder at the index.html that launches the captivate project  (or perhaps one folder down)..    I'm wanting to do this so it works whether I've published the project to a webserver or not.
I was thinking I could use a relative reference (ie  something like .\myReport.html), but I haven't had any luck thus far

    Thanks Seth.
I just tried that, but when I run it in preview mode (by simply hitting F12), it gives me an error because it can't  find the file in the temporary preview folder it creates (ie:
    C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local\Temp\CP2840464090993Session\CPTrustFolder2840464091009\Captivat ePreviewLoader\
I'm hoping to find a place to put it so that it works when running F12 and when running in regular 'published' mode
I was thinking I could put it in the 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 (32 Bit)\Templates\Publish' folder, but when I do that, it doesn't seem to gete copied to the .\CaptivatePreviewLoader folder when running F12
