Resizing a shape I created

I created a shape which I plan on re-using over and over. It is basically a box with a diagonal line and some text in it. I saved it in a my shapes template. When I drag it into a blank sheet it is fine. When I try to resize it everything falls apart.
The box will get smaller but the diagonal line stays the same and the text goes to two lines instead of one. I tried making everything one layer, locking it but that doesn't allow me to change the size. I need all items to shrink / expand at the same aspect
ratio.

Shapes looked at and fixed, it was a grouped shape but the diagonal line had absolute coordinates instead of being related to the group shape.

All the shapes you create with Adobe Shape are stored in a CC Library. This means you can access them in other desktop, mobile, and web apps. Detailed instructions below.
How to access your shapes in Creative Cloud
Desktop: In order for this to work, you must have the most recent version of Illustrator and Photoshop.
Open Adobe Illustrator on your desktop.
Open the Libraries panel (Windows > Libraries)
Your shapes should be present in your Libraries. If you don’t see them there, select the libraries drop down to see if you saved your shapes in a different library.
Now, you can drag the shape onto your canvas.
At this point, you can continue working with your shape, by adding editing. Or, you can simply save the file. Of course, after you save it to your desktop, you can email, post online, etc.
Mobile apps:
Open Adobe Illustrator Draw and open a drawing.

Tap a library name to view the shapes in the Creative Cloud Library. Tap Change Library to select another library.

Active Slide or Tocuh Slide. You can use Adobe Slide or Touch Slide to place the shape on the canvas. Access Touch Slide by tapping on the circular icon at the top of the menu bar.
Place the shape. Once you have activated Touch Slide, you will see a light rendition of your shape on the canvas. Simply double tap on the shape outline to stamp the shape in place.

How do I resize multiple shapes and their paths?

I can only ever resize the shapes one frame at a time, will I have to remove the keyframes and do them again?

Tweens are designed to animate a variety of properties, scale being one of many. If you click on the symbol and resize it, then go several frames and resize it again, you'd expect Flash to animate the resize, right? That's just Flash doing what it's supposed to.
If you go inside the symbol and resize the contents it will do what you want.

So you picked a template in A4 format, and now you need letter. The printer can scale the PDF to 11" and it will get even narrower, leaving large margins. Does it have bleeds? That woudl be a disaster.
Frankly, the best thing is to start over using the correct page size, but you can go to File > Document Setup... in ID and change the shape of the exisiting file. Expect to do a lot of work moving and resizing objects and refitting the type.

Resize individual shapes to a specified size?

Hi there,
Does anyone know of a way, by script, action or other means of resizing an individual shape or path to a specified dimension in inches (or any other unit of measurement) without drawing the shape externally in Illustrator and bringing it back into PS or without opening a new doc at the desired size and copy/pasting back into your first document.
I've never really considered this as a problem to be solved until a co-worker asked me how to do it. The two solutions above were my only replies to this question. Have I missed some other solution that uses ONLY PS CS3?

That's true, Buko.
But what may disappoint the newcomer is finding out that the resizing will be based on the size of the rectangular bounding box that surrounds the selected shape or path.
So if you have a 100px square that's rotated, the bounding box is going to report a different, larger size. You'd have to measure, check the angle "de-rotate" to perpendicular, and then make a change.
Some things just aren't as easy as we'd like them to be, and we have to do the work.

Since I've updated, I can't resize rectangle shapes.

Since I've updated, it seems like I can't resize rectangles or rounded edge rectangles any more. The bounding box isn't even present, only the nodes for rounding the corners. This only seems to be happening for the rectangle shapes, ellipses and other polygons are unaffected. Did they change something, and this is a feature, or is it a bug?
I've tried restarting and all that, this is happening consistently across many files. Help!

Resize movie & keeping original created date

I have a batch of movies, that were taken with my digital camera, and I would like to resize them but keeping the original created date. I've used ViddyUp! to downsize the movies but that has then put the creation date as today and not kept the original creation date. I wondered if anyone else knew how to keep that information on the movie?

Okay, I've not found an easy all-in-one way of doing this but what I've done is use VisualHub to change the size of the movie and then use A Better Finder Attributes to change the creation date. A bit of a faf but it's the only way I could figure out how to do it.

Shape tool creating border outside shape

Am using CS6 and when I draw a rectangle and then move it into position it is creating a line border not around the shape but just to the right of it - it kind of mimmicks the shape. This disappears when I save and reopen but can be distracting - any ideas how to stop this?

I believe that is the path that defines the shape. You just need to deselect it by selecting a different layer or by using the path selection tool and clicking outside of the shape.

Won't let me draw buttons or drag shapes to create buttons of drop zones

Hi I'm using DVD studio pro version 4, and for some reson I can not create buttons with the mouse or from when I drag shapes over. Is there somesort of setting I need to fix, or is my system just acting up?

Are you using any Font management software? This problem typically happens when you turn off some of the fonts that DVDSP uses within the app... try turning on all your fonts and see if that helps.

How to resize series of subtitles created by text generator??

Hi, My client wants to change a series of subtitles that is created by a smaller font size. I've looked into the FCP menu and can't find a shortcut that can easily change the font size of a series of subtitles. Instead of clicking it one by one, if there any other way??

The only way I can think of is to export your sequence as an XML document, load it into a text editor, search for the font size specification, then do a search and replace for your new size. Re-import when you're done.

Cutting layers using curved shapes to create lines

I need to create a document in .jpg format that has a photograph on one layer then two more layers with two color curved lines that will be covering only the bottom right, see the photo. trying this in Photoshop is killing me with the pen tool, wouldn't it be easier to create in AI and then convert later?
Notice the red line either on top or underneath the photo and the white layer underneath that. This is what I need to to I have AI cs4 so do I do this in AI or PS?

You can do it in either program. Both have a vector path tool (Pen); both can draw vector primitives, like ellipses. Photoshop can use those paths to select pixels. Illustrator can only mask pixels.

Resize custom shapes that I have downloaded

Hi, I have downloaded some scroll picture frames as custom shapes. but on draging over picture they are thick and huge. can i alter the size of custom shapes. I have tried doing on a separate layer and when these particular shapes there is no size in the tools options. I have cs5 I would like to be able to make something like this thinner or the actual frame smaller but still be able to go from corner to corner on pic.

the scroll frame I used this time may be a little different. I make a newblank layer to put this frame on and I don't have any difficulty adding a colour to frame, I want to be able to still get frame to fit corner to corner but make it thinner. ? may be they are a set size.

How to cut of rectangle shape to create bracket in Photoshop?

I want a layer like this:
I've drawn the rectangle then I made a selection with the marquee selection tool to delete a part of the rectangle but it deleted whole shape. Can anyone please help me out with this.

Make your rectangle shape. If you want it to be perfectly square, hold down the Shift key while you drag.
Make your two text layers using the centered text alignment option.
Select the entire canvas — Ctrl a (Cmd a )
Select the Move tool and then select the rectangle shape and both text layers. You should see matching ants at the edges of your image.
Click on the Align horizontal centers icon in the Options bar. The rectangle and text layers will now be centered vertically in the image.
If you want the box centered width wise, select just the box layer, and make sure you still have the matching ants at the image edges.
Click on Align vertical centers second icon from the left in the strip above.

When the select is a couple of mm clear of the wider text, click on the tick icon on the Options bar to OK it.
Make sure just the box layer is selected, and add a Layer mask. This will actually hide the bits you don't want hidden, so last step.
Invert the layer mask Ctrl i (Cmd i)

How do I resize effects that I create in the "effects gallery"?

Part 1:
I am attempting to use Illustrator to vector a map so I can see detail in zoom as close as 50' to 100'. Where the original scale is about 15,000' by 21,000'. My current problem is setting what I do in the effects gallery (textures, grain, etc...) so that they don't look so pixelated zoomed in to about 50' to 100'. This map will be used in another viewing program so setting up links will not work. If I need to I can do the map in segments as the entire map does not have to be so detailed, but it would be nice to have one complete map (if possible).
My basic questions:
1. How do i set it up so the graphics come out clear at a close zoom?
2. Is there a place I can get some free mapping textures (different types of stone, marble, earth, concrete, etc...)?
Part 2:
3. I have a lot of mapping textures but they are in .png format. I tried converting them in illustrator but they always come out solid colors. What is the proper process for converting/importing testures into Illustrator. I am using CS6.

Here is what you should do:
1. Get SharePoint Manager from Codeplex, if you've not already. It's a freeware with very useful feature for people like us.
2. Run SharePoint Manager as administrator
3. Under the site -> List -> Fields, change the property of Workflow field Allow Deletion True
4. Open the site in SPD, Edit List coulmns, Show Read Only columns & finally delete.
