Resizing Columns in iTunes 11

I hope that I am not resubmitting a question that is known by the masses...
I have changed my ipod Touch for the songs to now automatically sync (as opposed to manually mangaged).  I now cannot alter the columns in itunes when playing my ipod (on my work computer).  I used to be able to resize the columns and then resort (by artist, by date...), and now I can do neither.
By having the music added by syncing with itunes as opposed to manually manage the library do you lose the ability to reshape and alter the columns?  That seems odd to me.
Thanks,
Chris

While viewing your iPod Library, try opening View Options (on my Mac, it's Cmd-J). Uncheck the columns you can't resize, and click OK. Those columns should disappear. Open View Options again, and recheck them. See if you are now able to resize them. This procedure worked for me on iTunes 9.2.1.

  • Resizing columns in iTunes 10

I've noticed some strange behavior in iTunes 10 regarding the resizing of displayed columns in List view. It appears that I can resize any displayed column in my main library, with exception to the immovable 1st column (the "currently playing or paused" column) or the checkmark column. This is fine.
The problem comes when I try to resize columns on an attached iPod. I can resize some columns, but not all ... that makes no sense! For instance, with my current settings, the optional displayed list view columns for my iPod are (currently in this order):Artist, Track #, Time, Album, Date Added, Size, Kind, Bit Rate, and Rating. In addition to these, there are the 3 default columns: the song order/play status column, and the Name column. I can't resize any of the default columns, nor can I resize these columns: Date Added, Kind, Rating, or Size.
Also, you should be able to resize the columns in the Column Browser, but you can't do that in either the main library OR an iPod library.

  • Resizing columns in iTunes store

Ok so they new look is bland, boring, and uncreative. But, I don't have a choice. Feels like I walked into a walmart store. But, whatever.
How do you resize columns in the iTunes store? I cant read the song names because apple has no resizing feature. And it's very annoying.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I completely agree - this is annoying! I found another topic in this forum about this where it was suggested that Apple be contacted via their feedback form at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html. I've just done this and suggest that anyone else who finds this annoying do the same! Hopefully, if more people report it, it will be fixed in the next update.
Another topic I came across suggested using the Browse feature (by going to the Home page, then clicking "Browse" in the top right quick links). This will return results in a list similar to the previous version, which had resizable columns. The only trouble is, you can't search this way, only browse, so it still doesn't assist in making locating tracks more efficient :S

  • How to resize columns in iTunes store?

Hey guys, I've had this problem since I upgraded to itunes 9 and up but I can't resize the columns in the itunes store which I used to be able to do before they changed the interface in version 9? I currently have itunes 9.0.2.25 installed. Is this a feature they removed and if so, then why would they do this? For example, when I search for a song and it's a long title it will cut off and I can't read the entire title, the only way to see the entire title is to preview the song and watch it scroll in the top status bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, David

It's not possible. Nobody can resize the columns in itunes 9. There have been other posts here about how annoying that is.

  • How do I resize columns in iTunes 11 store?

When in the iTunes 11 store, and after searching for a particular artist, I see the results.  However, many of the song and albums names are cut off since the columns are too narrow.  But I can't find any way to adjust them - there's no column headers to grab onto and I don't see anything relevant in the view options.
Does anyone know how to adjust the width of these columns?

I don't believe that there is any way now to send an anonymous gift. The store does send the email, but to the best of my knowledge it always attaches the sender's information. If you want to give an album anonymously, you can either see if any of the other download stores allow this, or of course buy the physical CD and send it without any return address.
    Regards.

  • Can't resize columns in new iTunes store

Well .. the new iTunes9 store is just horrendous, and a step back from the previous version. i'd beg for the previous version but it's never gonna happen.
one of the most simple and yet horrendously awful things is the apparant inabilityto resize columns when browsing an arists. if the name of a track is wider than the column ... how do you see it? there is now way to scroll across and see the complete name of the track/remix.
anyone know a work around for this. anyone from Apple care to comment on such an obvious design flaw?

I'll echo this. Look up Classical Music, anything there is nigh impossible to find. Telling me that a song is "symphony no. 9 movem...." is useless. I don't care, I know that. What I want to see is the movement. But I can't. Or how about dance remixes? I know the name of the song, I'd like to be able to see the actual remix name.
On top of that, you can't even choose what you want to view by. If I am searching for all the U2 songs, I don't need to see that the artist is U2. I'd much rather use that space for more productive things.
I simply cannot understand who at Apple thought this was a "better" user interface. Sacrificing user operability for a "spiffy" new makeover is not what I would expect from Apple.

  • Broken: Copy & Resizable Columns

In iTunes store I used to be able to copy track information by selecting a track and typing cmd-C. This was useful for a number of reasons, the two most used by me were correcting ripped CD information quickly -- particularly with classical tracks where the titles and track names have no real quality control -- to make it match the iTunes database (that makes getting cover information much easier); and sending information to people (including Apple support) in emails.
Now I can't do that. This would be a minor inconvenience were it not for the disappearance of resizable columns. Before, a work around would be to open the CD information in a separate window, rearrange my windows so that I can see everything, and simply eyeball everything (I can touch type so while that's a hassle, it wasn't impossible).
Unfortunately, that doesn't work now either. The columns are fixed in width meaning many classical tracks have long titles that start with the same text (like Symphony No. 3 "Poem of Ecstasy" or "Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra") that runs over into the non-visible part of the column. The only way to read the entirety of what's there is to hover the mouse over the visible text. This is impossible to do while typing in another window because it only works while the store window is active.
Thanks, Apple. You've opted for style over substance again, only this time it doesn't work.

    Byron,
I think I have a better answer for you.
When you are on the Home screen of the iTunes Store click the Browse in the QuickLinks on the upper right of the screen.
You will then be switched into the conventional iTunes bowser where I think you'll find you can copy and paste track information as you have in the past.
    Give it a try.

  • How to resize column width in report?

    hi all,
i read somewhere here that in order to resize column width in a report, you need to go to report attributes, then edit the column you wish to resize and then go to the CSS Style and place something like "width=600px". while this works very well in Internet Explorer, it somehow has no effect in Firefox 3.0. is there a way to make it work both browsers?
    thanks
    allen

    Hi,
Sorry, I misunderstood. There are several methods you could use:
1 - Use the span tags around the data itself - this would require adding the tags into the sql statement itself
2 - Use javascript to set the column widths by adding a style to the TD tags for each cell
3 - Create a new Report Template and use COL tags immediately after the TABLE tag in the Before Rows section to specify the widths of all columns
Option 3 may be the easiest?

  • How can I delete an item from the main left column of iTunes?

I'd like to delete an item from the main left hand column in iTunes (the column containing the main headings LIBRARY, STORE, SHARED, PLAYLISTS etc etc). Under the first heading 'LIBRARY' appear the items Library, Music, Movies, iTunes U, Books, Apps and Ringtones. I'd like to remove the item "Library" from that list - it appears immediately after the heading "LIBRARY" and serves no purpose whatsoever. (Neither does it appear to cause any harm, I must say, just a nuisance.) This item does not appear in any of the iTunes viewing options or controls lists. Neither does it appear in iTunes in the other accounts on my Mac and I have yet to see it any other iTunes on any other Mac.
I've upgraded since about iTunes 8 assuming the problem would eventually disappear through the upgrades but it hasn’t, even through all the providedupgrade increments available for iTunes.
I'm assuming it's from something I've installed in my main user account at some stage and it entered this item in the iTunes app. But I can't see how to remove it. The only things I can remember installing are "iTunes Batch Column Renamer" and "Join Together", both if which are just Scripts and which I use fairly regularly, but I don't recall either of them installing that particular item.
Is there any folder I can navigate to to edit the list of items in that main left hand column of iTunes?
Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

on second thought, that you have an item "library" is indeed odd - there shouldn't be.
suggest you try removing iTunes completely (click here and follow the instructions), then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
note this will not do anything to your media files, playlists, ratings, etc.
btw, you didn't install any 3rd party tools like this script:
    Change Hidden iTunes Preferences v2.4
This application will allow you to invoke hidden iTunes preferences:
    Show "Library" playlist
    Changing view setting is global
    Allow half-stars in ratings
    Hide "Ping" buttons
Show/hide arrow links -- to either search the iTunes Store or search your library
Load complete iTunes Store preview before playing
Create playlists for purchased song collections
Play songs while importing or converting
Create file names with track number
Maintain grid view for Search results
Option-click zoom button for Mini Player&
    Show buttons horizontally

  • My ipod is not showing up in the left hand column on itunes. I have tried the trouble shooting methods but nothing is working. My ipod nano also will not play.

My ipod nano is not showing up in the left hand column of itunes. It says connected on the ipod and I can find it in my computer but its not there on itunes. I need it as I want to restore it to factory settings. I have tried the troubleshooting methods that are on the Apple website but no luck.
Also my ipod is not playing. I found a way to upload all my music to my new computer. I followed a guide given to me on wiki and it worked. However, since then I cannot get the ipod to play. The menu is there, it turns on, all the playlists are visable but when I press play it does nothing or flicks briefly on to the page to play but then flicks back to the list again. I have tried all the troubleshooting on the Apple website but again nothing. I wanted to restore it to factory settings but to do this you have to be able to access the ipod in the left column on itunes which obviously I can't do. That was happening before the ipod stopped working. The two issues are separate.
Thanks and hope you can help me.

    I have sorted it myself!!
Ipod is now in the top right corner, last time I clicked on it, it ejected it but by clicking on the actual ipod icon then it brings up your ipod. I restored it to factory settings and synced all my music and it now works again. Hope this can help anyone who ends up with the same problem.

  • Song title is incorrect in the "NAME" column in itunes, but correct at the top of the page for the song playing.

All of a sudden most of the song titles under the "NAME" column in itunes is incorrect.   When I click on the file name it plays a different song but it points to the correct song elsewhere on the list.   Also it shows the correct song name at the top of the screen.  Is it possible to get the files under the NAME column to point to the right song?  This is happening on my PC windows 7.

Move your mouse to the top of the Firefox window, then right click.
You will see a menu of the available toolbars. Select '''''Customize'''''.
In the new window, look for the icon. When you find if, hold down
the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be.
You can move any of the icons you want from here, but some
    icons are locked in place.

  • Resizing columns and making multiple selections in Pages 5.0

Using Pages 5.0 (using OS X), I am no longer able to resize columns in a table by dragging a selection handle as I could in the old Pages (2009, I think it was). Dragging now adds the adjacent column to the selection. Anyone know how to resize the columns by dragging?
Also, in the previous Pages, I could select multiple noncontiguous words by holding down the command key. Doesn't work anymore. Does anyone know how to do that?

Apple has removed 90+ features from Pages5:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&mforum=iworktipsn trick
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder:

Trash/Archive Pages 5 after exporting any Pages 5 files back to Pages '09 format.

  • "File Path" column in iTune?

How do I add a "File Path" column in iTunes, similiar to one on Windows Media Player (this is my biggest reason not to fuly switch to iTunes yet)?
Currently sorting by album is as close as I can get to sorting by file path.

Your view choices can be selected by a CMD-J (Apple Key + J) and tick the items you want to view in the iTunes main window.
Any time you want to see a song file - from the iTunes main window select a single tune and then CMD+R (Apple Key + R) or from the File Menu "Show in Finder" and a Finder window will open showing you the file on the HD. I find this very efficient and thus feel that a "file path" column wold be not helpful for my uses. If you have the Fiinder window set to "Columns" then you will see the path.
If you let iTunes do the work of organizing your tunes then it is always a simple to find any tune w/o iTunes being open as the tunes are always in the iTunes Music folder. With the Finder window open and set to column view drag the music folder to the finder window and create an alias for fast access.

  • Resize columns in Pages for iPad?

Is there a way to resize columns in a multi-column document in Pages for iPad? I want a narrow left column and a wider right column. I can kinda get the effect by using a table, but it'd be easier to just adjust the column widths. Is this possible, and if so, how?

    Hi Adarga,
I'm not seeing a way to resize the columns and the Help doesn't mention it either. I'm just able to change the indents and "margins" within the columns, but the columns stay the same size.

  • Cannot auto size columns in iTunes 10.4.  Columns are all mixed up with headings I have never seen. Cannot change by right clicking on columns.

Cannot auto size columns in iTunes 10.4.  Columns are all mixed up with headings I have never seen. Cannot change by right clicking on columns. Cannot order albums alphabetically by double clicking on heading.

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!
