Resizing Contact Pictures in Adressbook

Hi!
Has anyone an idea, how to solve this problem in a simple way.
I have a large number of contacts in my addressbook and many of them have contact pictures.
For some reason addressbook keeps the resolution and the uncropped image stored. This means that my addressbook is now quite large (over 150 MB), because I used HirRes Jpegs for many contact pictures.
Is the a simple way to resize the contact images to a reasonable resolution? A script e.g. The resize function in the pop up menue is not working for me. Just creates a black frame, but keeps the original still stored.
Thanks,
Lukas

Welcome to the discussions, LukasP.
As far as I can tell, when you drop an image into the picture space of a contact and size it, two copies of the image are made and stored in Address Book's images folder. One is a highly compressed copy of the original (in the case I have just tried the file size was reduced to 1/4 of its size) and the other is the portion cropped or sized. The former retains the original jpeg extension, the latter gets no extension. Both have the same UID-style filename. In my test case the original file was 2.2MB, the compressed version was 660kB, and the cropped version 24kB.
The point? AB doesn't use the compressed files, so you can safely delete them. Sort the Images folder by type, all the jpegs will be together and you can select and delete them.

  • IPhone Contact Pictures Fully Explained

    Hello Guys,
Just wanted to explain fully how the iPhone contact pictures work and why some are large and some are small etc.
In the very beginning if you added a picture to a contact on the IPHONE when you made a call it would show up as a LARGE image. If you added the picture via the Mac contacts app, when you called it would be a small image in the top right corner.
Then what happened if you added a HD/large in data size image to a contact in the mac app, it would show in your iPhone (during a call) as a large image. This was because there was enough picture data to show the larger size.
Now we come to Yosemite and iOS8........
In iOS8 if you now view a contact on the iPhone and actually finger tap the contact picture it actually opens up the full image in the screen. This didn't happen before.
Before if you tapped the picture nothing would happen.......now you can view the image and save it to the camera roll if you wish........
Now.....in Yosemite if you add a picture on the Mac this is where is gets interesting....... It doesn't matter on the actually data size of the image. It could be 40kb or 4mb. What makes the difference between large and small when calling is the HEIGHT of the image.
If you resize ANY image to 960px, when calling it will show the image as blurry LARGE!!
If you make the image 959px or less in height it will show the image as small top right.
So you have have a 5mb image thats 959px high and it will show as a small image when calling.......
I hope that clears everything up for you guys!

    ckent007,
What version of the iPhone software are you using?
Are you saving the contact pictures (by tapping done in the edit contact screen) before you go to the home screen and use another application?
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Contact Picture Low Resolution When inserted from Outlook 2007

    -iPhone 3G
    -Outlook 2007
When I insert a picture into a contact using the iPhone: the picture is saved as 320x320 in both iPhone and Outlook after sync.
The problem is when I add a picture into a contact using Outlook2007: the picture is saved as 72x72. Outlook automatically resize any picture down to 72x72.
+How can I make outlook insert pictures at 320x320 resolution?+

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How are you going about uploading?
Are you digging the files out of the DATA folder in the iPhoto Library Folder? If so, you're using the thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display purposes.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
I suggest you use the File -> Export option and export the pics to the desktop. There iPhoto will make a copy. Upload that, and when the upload is finished you can trash the copy on the desktop - your original is safe in iPhoto.

  • Contact picture

Contact pic in adressbook resize to original size, when i zoomed in an place the photo how i want..

This is the expected behaviour, AFAIK. Whatever be the size of the image that you choose, the displayed pic will be small in size.

  • Full screen contact picture lost iPhone 6 plus

upgraded my iphone 5 to ios8 and i was so pleased to see the return of fullscreen contact pictures for incoming calls. After getting an iphone 6+ today I am disappointed to see this return to the small round picture at the top of the screen. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Hello everyone. No one is missing a setting or need to do a bodoo ritual to get a full sized photo on incoming call in an iphone. The answer is simple since the phone in his original position has an aspect radio of 9:16 to the phone display a picture in full screen at the incoming call the picture needs to be in the same aspect ratio so there is no blank spaces anywhere and the software proceed to display the contact picture.  Also the picture has to stay in your library.
The procedure to do this in iOS 8:
1- Go to Photos>Camera Roll> Select the picture you wanna set as contact.
2- Touch "Edit" in the right superior corner.
3- Inside Edit mode touch the tool to resize.
4- Set the grid to a position taller than wide.
5- Touch the scale icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Is the one above the "Done" button.
6- Select the last option that reads: "9:16" that is related to the aspect ratio for the selected area.
7- Adjust your image zooming or moving until it reach the desired one.
    8- Hit done.
9- Now in Camera Roll set the image to the contact desired. It's done.
    Enjoy.

I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

My computer crashed and I have to get my data from my old drive to another computer, to ensure I get all my data what do I need to get.  I have and ipad and an iphone.  I need to get apps, contacts, pictures, etc.  Is there a way to do this? It was a vista pc and the new is win 7. I can grab the backup files, and music, but what about my apps? I do not want to sync on the new pc since the apps aren't there.  Were are the app files located in itunes? Can I just copy them to the new computer?

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

My iPhone has my old email set up throught iCloud. How do I reset my new username with the device without deleting everything. And if I have to delete my old account, will everything (contacts, pictures, games, apps, etc.) be erased from my phone.

Your old ID connects to an icloud account containing all your data (email, contacts, etc.)  If you then use a different ID, you will connect to a different account, which results in losing all your "apple" data, like emails, contacts, calendars, etc.
However, Apple IDs are also used to connect to an itunes store account, with is different.  You can keep using the old itunes store ID to keep all your purchases (but if you change to a different ID, you will lose all purchased items) and use the new ID for icloud (but losing emails, contacts, etc. from the old account).

  • I erased everything on my iphone and lost all my contacts pictures and everything how do i get all that back from my itunes account??

I erased everything on my iphone and lost all my contacts pictures and everything else how do i get the contacts and pictures back from my itunes account?? ive tried restore its like it gave me a whole new iphone thing.

If you plug in the iPhone to your computer, any contacts ect that you synced with your computer with sync back with the iPhone when it is selected in the iTunes menu under info. Anything that was added without syncing was lost, I'm sorry. A good future solution is to get iOS 5 when it comes out this fall, so you don't need to manually sync contacts, its automatic!

    - You do have iTunes version 11 on the computer, right. Saying the latest is not sufficient.
    - Have you tried everthing here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - You should
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Your library/media will not be affected.
    - Does the iPod charge?

  • Lost all contacts, pictures, and videos on ios 7, syncing iphone to itunes/icloud how do i restore it back, lost all contacts, pictures, and videos on ios 7, syncing iphone to itunes/icloud how do i restore it back

I updated itunes 11.1.5 and I accidently restored all my settings back to my old phone that was backed up onto my computer, I lost everything that was set up on my phone, contacts, pictures, videos, emails...etc.. how do I get my old setup back without doing a factory data reset?

Restore the device again using the most recent backup.
If there is no more recent backup and the pictures were not copied off the device prior to the original restore, they are gone.  Same goes for videos taken with the device.
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service, simply sync them back.
Any content acquired from iTunes should be on iTunes on the computer, simply sync it back.
