Resizing images/boxes without dragging???

Does anyone know if I can resize an image or box by simply typing in the dimensions somewhere instead of dragging from a handle?

Click your object to select it & then go to the metrics inspector (it's the little ruler) where you can type in the dimensions you want. If you want it to increase or decrease proportionally, check the box next to Constrain proportions & then you only need to enter one dimension & the other will resize also as soon as you tab out of the box or press Return.

  • How to add imge to another image box by drag and drop

    Hi all
       i am using flex 3.and my problem is to drag an image and drop to another box or image what ever.just need to display the copy of the source image in its drop target.is it possible drag an image?if it is then how?please help me.
    thanks and regards

    there are examples of image dragging and dropping here:

    i imagine for your problem, you want the final example, and instead of passing across an integer value, you want to pass across the image source.

  • In Aperture 3 creating a book using Formal theme and in Edit Layout I can move but not resize the image box even though handles appear and the manual says I should be able to. Help      image boxt

    Can I resize image boxes with the displayed handles as the User Manual suggests I can, when creating a book in Aperture 3 using the Formal Theme (with the beveled mask) and in Edit Layout mode?  I can move the box with the yellow guidelines, but those handles will not move to allow me to adjust size.  If I delete the box and add a photobox, I can resize, but I loose those nice beveled masks!

    Well I tried on my wife's MB and it worked fine, but keeps the same aspect ratio. Nearly there. I tried the local Apple outlet, but they had just taken Aperture off the demo machine .
    However, I have discovered that I can use the "right click" option for 'photo aspect ratio' and it will resize the box to accomodate my pictures.  By fiddling I can select an alternative ratio and/or picture and change the size of the frame up or down and try to get an appropriate size and ratio, e.g. if I have a small landscape picture, I can pop in a bigger square picture (it gets cropped) then choose a portrait mode (cropped differently) then pop in my landscape picture (still cropped, but bigger size), then use the option 'photo aspect ratio', I get it uncropped and bigger.  Not a really satisfactory work around, but better than nothing.
    By combining they fiddling with aspect ratios and the pinch/squeeze routine - on the MB (or via Lion and a track pad I assume) - I should get there.
    Pity those pesky handles don't work!!
    Thanks folks for the help

  • "process mutiple files" freezes computer when resizing images.PSE3

    This function has always worked perfectly for me for years. It started about 2 weeks ago and I have no clue why it is doing this.
    Whenever I try to resize a folder containing mutiple or even single images, it freezes the program and computer until I restart everything.
    More specifics;
    files are being downsized not upsized.
    the original image loads into the program, then as it is being resized, it freezes up at the same point each time. This is when the "progress bar" (not sure of exact name) at the bottom of the page shows about 25% progress.
    I have cleaned up the hard drive and done a file reorganization.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program.
    I can resize images directly through the image/resize function one at a time. The problem is that I frequently have to resize large batches of images.
    Thanks for any help.

    This has caught other people. Check you Resize Image box to see if some strange value has been entered. One user had accidentally entered 4 pixels instead of 4 inches so all his pictures came out really small. I wonder if you have the opposite problem and are resaving to some extremely large size that Elements does not like.
    If not post back.
    Additional question-are you having problems with the same set of pictures? If so, could you run a test on a second set of pictures. Perhaps there is something strange in the source files.

  • Help on resizing text boxes and general image techniques

    Using CS2.
    I have two basic questions.  One has to do with getting the best vector images (with text) that I can for placement in InDesign documents.  The other has to do with the specifics of working with text boxes in FW.
    The easiest way for me to produce vector images has been by using PowerPoint.  I do all the graphics work and then save it as a gif.  I do cropping in a graphics tool (Irfanview, PS) and then insert or place the image.  As long as there is no resizing, things work well.  I'm not sure how things like DPI are controlled using this technique but I'm assuming that also would be done with the graphics tool.  I know Irfanview allows for the dpi to be specified during resizing.
    The problem starts to show up when the gif object is resized.  Things get distorted and I lose the crispness of the image contents.  I'm certainly not an expert on graphics however I've been thinking I either need to 1) make the actual size of graphics in PP the size of the final placed image so there is no resizing (just some cropping) or 2) to work in a tool like FW where (I'm assuming) there are better capabilities to resize vector graphics.  My sense (again, not an expert) is that the process I'm using converts to vector graphics in PP to a bitmap image in the gif and that resizing doesn't work as well for bitmaps as for vector objects.  Do I have that right?
    Moving on to question 2:
    Can text boxes be resized in FW without distorting the text?  Can their size be seen when originally drasing them?  Perhaps spoiled by PowerPoint, I like to set the width of vector objects (e.g. rectangle) and the width of the text that will fill it to the same size.  (I know PP has the ability to put borders on text boxes but when working in FW I need to work with 2 objects, the rectangle and the text box).  Say I have a rectangle that is 81px wide.  Can I set a text box to 81px wide without distorting the text?
    I tend to want to control actual object sizes so I can get good spacial alignment.  For example, I tend to set the width of a text object to an odd number of px so that any line coming out of the text object aligns well with the text.  I must admit that it may be time for me to use a different technique in FW (e.g. more alignment of multiple objects vs. knowing dimensions and seting locations).  Does my approach need improvement?
    Thanks for any advice
    Tom

    As I wean off of PP I've started looking at FW and Illustrator (I have both).  I've done a logo or two in FW and have used it to build some simple web graphics (e.g. buttons, menus).  It can, as I recall, be a little more complex than what I need in this case.
    Since PP is not a graphics program, its drawing capabilities are very limited. As a consequence, any graphics application will have many more features than you're used to seeing and more than you need for any one project.
    I did a little experimenting with Illustrator and my first impression is that it will work better for me for this work.  It seems a little more intuitive.
    Is a general guideline to use FW for web-destined graphics and Illustrator for what I used to do in PP?
    Your suggested guideline is good. Also, note that if you make a logo or vector graphic in Illustrator (saving as .ai format), you can import that into Fireworks and work with it as a vector object there. FW can import and use, just not create, .ai objectes and files.
    FW has some vector tools, they are tucked away under Window > Others > Path. Since FW is intended for producing Web graphics, it is a hybrid application, capable of both vector and photo/image editing. Given that it has some of both, it necessarily doesn't have everything that Illustrator has nor everything that Photoshop has. It has most the features of both of those programs, as long as the feature is useful for a Web graphics designer. For pure photo editing Photoshop has the edge; for pure illustration, Illustrator has the edge. Both Photoshop and Illustrator support color profiles and other features important for print that Fireworks does not. All are good programs, but there are reasons to prefer one over the other depending on what kind of graphics you need to create or work with and what your intended use of the work is. (But any of them will be superior to PowerPoint! )
    I'm not sure I can unravel the mystery with the text box resizing.  I suspect theres an option selected.  Knowing it can be done is enough for me to do some homework.
    Maybe...don't think of text boxes at all. You have text objects. The object has a bounding box that is determined by the underlying definition of the font, but it isn't in a text box. (Sometimes swooshs will extend beyond the defining box of a character in the font, but that is another issue). The bounding box for the text object is similar to the bounding box of a circle or a star or an irregular shape. There's a reference box for the dimensions, but the text is not inside some other independent container.
    To resize, select the text object and change the font size either using the Properties palette or using the scale tool to drag on a corner of the scaling outline (different from the bounding box, and I don't know why, sorry).
    I think that,with Illustrator, you can define text boxes (or other shapes) and fill them with text. *searches* Ah.. Like these: http://school.tatoland.com/illustrator/aitype.html
    cheers!

  • IMessage no longer accepts images to be dragged into the message box

    My iMessage iMac app no longer accepts images to be dragged into the message box since upgrading to Mavericks. I used to be able to just drag in .jpg images and they would appear in the text field to be sent to another persons iPhone/iPad/iMac. This no longer happens and just ignores that I have dragged it. Not even a "not accepted" icon appears.
    Is this just me? Or a bug in Mavericks?

    Its working again now after a restart so must be a bug.

  • How to proper resize images and videos at runtime without losing quality?

    Hi guys. I need a bit of help here.
    I've built a flash site in which i want to resize a movie to the stage. I do it by keeping the proportion, thus i only resize the width and then i resize the height acordingly to the new width but keeping the proportion.
    The problem is that my film still looks "pixeled".
    I found a website on which the stage resizes dinamically with the movie and the background images without either of them losing quality. Till now i knew that resizing images or videos in flash at authoring or runtime produces pixeled results.
    This is the website: http://kampanjeweb.apt.no/jotun/romforrom/. Can someone tell me how do they do it without losing quality? just make the browser windowed and resize the margins to see the effect.
    Thanks.

    Hello, Venian.
    About the video, you could try setting the flash.media.Video's smoothing property to TRUE. This should keep a quality, but you can do nothing if the video has a poor quality. You need a great video.
    About the images, you you need to redraw the image each time you resize it. To achieve it, use a combination of Bitmap, BitmapData and Matrix classes. Any doubt, just call again. Here is a simple example:
    var scale:Number = .5;
    var highQualitySourceImage:Bitmap = ...your image...;
    var scaleMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
         scaleMatrix.scale(scale, scale);
    var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData( scale*highQualitySourceImage.width, scale*highQualitySourceImage.height);
         bitmapData.draw(highQualitySourceImage, scaleMatrix);
    var finalBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmapData);
    addChild( finalBitmap );

  • 'Auto resize image' 'Settings' dialog box controls

    I have a signature that contains an avatar image (size 120px by 120px)
    Every time I 'Send' an 'Auto Resize Image' > 'Settings' dialogue box pops up
    How can I bypass this as its becoming annoying.
    Most emails (98%) do not contain any other embedded or attached images.
    This only started to happen after upgrading to latest version of Thunderbird, was never an issue before.

    Doesn't sound like a standard Thunderbird pop up as I've not come across it.
    Do you by any chance have an addon /extension such as Auto Resize Image?
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/auto-resize-image/
    if yes, disable it and retest to see if message stops.
    Check you are using an up to date version.
    check to see if there is some settings you can use to 'not ask again' or similar. Can't say exactly as I do not use it.
    I use the standard TB settings to adjust for sizing when I originally insert an image.

  • Resizing images without export

    Hi all,
    I would like to create a folder that contains re-sized versions of my master images. The folder will be photos that I am posting to my web site and I want to be able to control their size and keep this resized image in my aperture library. I am uploading them through the site host's uploader (squarespace) using finder, not exporting through aperture. Is there a way to create duplicate,resized versions of the images without exporting and re-importing the photos?
    I know that aperture isn't photo editing software, but i expected that it would be able to do basic things (mirror, resize, etc) and am constantly disappointed. I could round-trip to photoshop, but I hope there's an easier solution.
    Thanks,
    John

    First question - why do you need the JPEGs? If it's to upload them to a site via FTP there are export plug-ins to do this directly from within Aperture.
    Using the media browser isn't going to help you at all because that will be accessing Previews in Adobe98 profile - not something you should be putting up on a website.
    I also came across this problem when I wanted to convert a large number of raw files to jpegs and keep the new jpegs in my library. At the time I was running low on disk space and didn't need the raws anymore, but had to go through the process of exporting and re-importing for a bunch of projects.
    Sorry, but that's a bit too alien an idea for me - I never threw away negatives back when I was using film, why would you throw away RAW files now?
    Another pet peeve I have is that there is no status indicator when exporting (2 minutes left, 25% done, etc....anything besides a beachball), so I don't know how long the export will take, and on my 2006 macbook it sometimes takes a while.
    At the bottom of the Browser pane on the left you will see a progress 'swirl' when exporting, importing or generating Previews. Click on it to bring up the activity window with progress bars for all current actions. You can also access it through Window>Show Activity.

  • Image swap without resize

    Greetings. I have to create image swaps without having the
    image resize
    to the layer size. Is there a way to do this? Is there a
    behavoiur I
    can purchase that will do this?
    Any help appreciated.
    Remove $$ to email directly.
    Thanks.

    Or, simply remove the dimensions from the base image's
    <img> tag. This will
    work although if the images are grossly different in size, it
    may cause your
    page to dance around (perhaps unacceptably) as the roll-in
    image loads.

  • Can't change/resize any boxes in Pages '09

    I am a new user to Pages and I used a template with about 8 pages. I've modified that template quite a bit, but suddenly when I try to change any text or image box size, it won't allow me to do so. I can change text, insert new photos, etc, but I can't resize any boxes. I was dragging the arrows previously to resize the boxes. Now the arrows show up but when I drag them the box doesn't respond at all. It seems like I've locked down the document somehow but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

    Hi ENoel
    Welcome to the forum.
    If they are locked they have little grey crosses on the corner.
    +Menu > Arrange > Unlock+
    If you have moved them to Master/Background Objects they have blue boxes on the corners.
    +Menu > Arrange > Make Master/Background Objects Selectable+
    If you have grouped them
    +Menu > Arrange > Ungroup+
    You may have done a combination of the above.
    Also you may have covered them with another object.

  • Tables in Dreamweaver Vs Text and Image boxes in Golive?!!?

    I have built a website in GoLive and to edit a page you insert text boxes, images boxes, etc and then can move each one freely and easily by simply dragging it. It seems when I transferred the site to Dreamweaver it is now in a table with very little freedom of movement? It is all in cells, and seems restricting! Is this just Dreamweaver, or can I turn this optional view off???

    You are trapped between the smoke and mirrors of the basic approach that GL
    takes (I'm not trying to be pejorative here), and the "reality of HTML"
    approach that DW takes.
    What GL calls 'text boxes', 'image boxes', and other such usages, are really
    just absolutely positioned page elements that have been renamed so that you
    can grasp what they do more simply. In Dreamweaver these are called "AP
    divs", where the "AP" stands for "Absolutely Positioned", and the "divs"
    stands for
    tags.
    The reality is this - you cannot just move things around on the page without
    making them be absolutely positioned. This seems like the easy solution.
    The problem is that using absolutely positioned elements willy-nilly is just
    a bad approach to creating web pages.
    So, let me ask you - why are you migrating to Dreamweaver? If you don't
    have some familarity with HTML and CSS, and if you aren't inclined to
    acquire it, then you will be in for a VERY rough ride.

  • Holding SHIFT to resize image in PROPORTION not working - InDesign CC

    Hello,
    I am putting a portfolio together containing a ton of images.
    I constantly use the SHIFT to resize images in proportion constantly, but it is not work.  It resizes randomly wherever my curser goes.
    It works in Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC
    I have uninstalled InDesign (uninstalled preferences too), then re-installed with no result.
    Using the Scale tool (by pressing S) still does not work
    I have been using the manual SCALE with percentages or using the "fit content proportionally" buttons on the toolbar, which is killing my workflow, as I need fine grain control
    I may have typed something out while thinking I was in a text box, when I was not.  This may have turned on or turned off the feature.  I'm not sure how to bring it back now.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Casey

    Which tool are you using, and which platform?
    I use the selection tool, myself, and for that you need to press BOTH Ctrl (PC)/Cmd (Mac) and Shift before dragging to scale proportionally. On windows you must press the keys before clicking the mouse.
    How did you replace the preferences? Directions to do it properly are at Replace Your Preferences

  • How do I resize image?

    How do I resize image from 720 to 1080 in after effects?

    Have you tried using the Scale property? Click the arrow to the left of a layer's name to expand its properties. Alternatively you can click on the layer in the timeline and press the "s" key to expand the Scale property for that layer. By default, scaling retains the original proportions; if you wish to disable this and scale something out or proportion then uncheck the little "constrain proportions" icon in the Scale property.
    An even easier way is to simply click on a layer in the composition view and drag the small boxes at the edges of the layer.

  • Problem with getting resized image's bytes

    I've got a problem with getting correct bytes of a newly resized image. The flow is that I retrive an image from the filesystem. Due to the fact that it is large I resize it to a 50x50px thumbnail. I can display this thumbnail in #benchmark1 (see code below). Unfortunately something's wrong with my imageToBytes funtion which returns reasonably small size of image but is totally useless - I can't make an image of it anymore so at #benchmark2 the application either crashes or keeps freezing. I saved this byte array on my disk and tried to preview under Windows how does it look but I got a message "Preview unavailabe". I did some digging in the Internet and I supposed that it's because I don't use any jpg or png encoders to save the file. Actually I think that it's not the case, as the bytes returned from method imageToBytes look weird - I cannot even make a new image of them and display it without any saving in memory.
                                  byte[] bytes = FileHandler.readFile (
                                          FileHandler.PHOTOS_PATH, fileName);
                                  Image img2 = Image.createImage (bytes, 0, bytes.length);

                                  bytes = ImageUtils.imageToBytes (img2);
                                  img2 = Image.createImage (bytes, 0, bytes.length);
                                                    //#benchmark2my imageToBytes function is as follows:
         public static byte[] imageToBytes (Image img)
              int[] imgRgbData = new int[img.getWidth () * img.getHeight ()];
              byte[] imageData = null;
              try
                   img.getRGB (imgRgbData, 0, img.getWidth (), 0, 0, img.getWidth (),
                           img.getHeight ());
              catch (Exception e)
              ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream ();
              DataOutputStream dos = new DataOutputStream (baos);
              try
                   for (int i = 0; i < imgRgbData.length; i++)
                        dos.writeInt (imgRgbData);
                   imageData = baos.toByteArray ();
                   baos.close ();
                   dos.close ();

    Hey Crawlie,
    Please note that simply writing int values into ByteArrayOutputStream will not suffice. Please have a look at the following conversion from int pixel value into byte[4]:
    public static final byte[] intToByteArray(int value) {
            return new byte[] {
                    (byte)(value >>> 24),
                    (byte)(value >>> 16),
                    (byte)(value >>> 8),
                    (byte)value
    }Good Luck!
