Resizing Images Using LR3

Specify Image Export Sizing. Question.
The Adobe LR3 Help section says in th Specify image export sizing page:
When exporting using the dimension option that the horizontal and vertical dimensions can be changed IRRESPECTIVE of the original values or aspect ratio. i.e. Like using the resizing option in PSE so an image can be tweaked to fit to better fit a frame..
I have completely failed to make this work. My output image always appear to have the original aspect ratio.  Please can someone help?   Thanks lots Fred

From help:
Dimensions: Applies the higher value to the longer edge of the photo and the lower value to the shorter edge regardless of the photo’s original aspect ratio. Specifying 400 x 600, for example, produces a 400 x 600 portrait photo or a 600 x 400 landscape photo.
I think you misunderstood that a bit.
It won't change aspect ratio of the original. It's sort of like the first option — "width and height" — that automatically "rotates" depending on photo's orientation (landscape or portrait).

  • Cropping and resizing Images using Adobe Photoshop Elements 12

    I am trying to edit pictures for my web site and previously used adobe photo shop 4 which I liked very well. When I try to crop and resize in photoshop 12 have been unable to adjust the images using pixels. As every photo on my website needs to be in pixels then this is a big problem for me! Is there anyway to change the preferences in the settings?  Thanks Tess

    You should head over to the Elements forums, this forum is for Photoshop. Go here : http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements

  • Resizing image using CSS - not working in IE

    Hello,
    I have a standard report with couple of columns one of which a image column. The images are of varying sizes and I manged to resize them to a fixed width & height by using CSS code in page header as below:
    td[headers="ITEM_PICTURE"] img {
      display: block;
      width: 70px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 4px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }The CSS does the trick in Chrome & Firefox but does not work in internet explorer. Is there a way to make this CSS code IE friendly?
    Cheers for help.

    I am using Apex 4.2.1 (had this issue in 4.1.1 as well) and using theme 10.Ah, the Sludge Sand theme. In 4.x that's a legacy theme only really included to allow applications to run on IE6. It's therefore intended to run in quirks mode, meaning in Internet Explorer terms there's no support for anything that didn't work in IE6 (for certain values of "work"). This means no CSS3, no support for a lot of useful CSS2.1 stuff (like attribute selectors), and probably problems with jQuery which requires standards mode. Adding a DOCTYPE to the page templates to trigger standards mode Interactive Report: how can I display carriage returns?. In 4.2 you really should switch to one of the latest Standard themes, or at least one of the standards mode Legacy themes (those not marked with a "*").
    If you must use theme 10, and there are no other images in this report (like edit icons) then you could add a static ID to the region and use a more basic selector like:
    #static-id td.t10data img {
      display: block;
      width: 70px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 4px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }However, it appears that one of IE's quirkier quirks mode quirks is that CSS padding is not supported on images, so the presentation you want is not possible using theme 10 in IE and CSS alone.
    Switching to a modern theme is recommended.

  • Help resizing images using aperture

    I don't use photoshop and am trying to figure out the best way to size an image of photos to put into a locket. I am not sure if the resizing (not crop) can be done in Aperture or do I need to use a tool like photoshop (or GIMP since I don't own photoshop.) OR instead would this be done in the export settings when I send it to the online printing company?

    Jeff,
    The printing service should only need to know the size at which you want it printed. At that point they can adjust the PPI to a number that will shrink the print size, but not destroy any pixels.
    You can adjust the DPI as you Export if you wish, but that should not be necessary. To change the DPI, choose JPEG Original, say, and click on Edit and you can change the DPI to a higher number, and export.
    If you export any photo, open it in Preview, click on Tools and choose Adjust size then you can see the impact of changing the Resolution on inches/or metric measure, which is what the printer can do. In Adjust Size be sure to Deselect the option to Resample -- the latter would otherwise remove pixels and result in a lower resolution.

  • Cannot resize images after CS5 and CC updates

    I recently installed Photoshop CC and the CC app recently updated  both my own CS6 and CC. I find that I now cannot resize images using the  "image size" dialog. Any changes I try to make in dimension or  resolution are ignored. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or  does anyone have any info which will help me discover what I am doing  wrong? Before, I simply entered the resolution and size I wanted for the  image. Now I cannot .I have tried suggestion here: e.g., deleting pixels when cropping, etc., but nothing seems to work for me.

    Thank you, Mylenium. Just curious... the CS5 update was done before I had
    the CC app. Some CS6 updates were done before I joined the CC (the CS5 in
    my problem subject-line was a type--should have been CS6), and one through
    the cloud. CC, of course, was all updated through the cloud. Am I to
    understand that CC would have done something to my owned, personal version
    of CS5, which has the same problem?
    Not an auspicious beginning with the cloud if complete
    uninstalls/reinstalls are necessary right off the bat. I wonder how often
    this type of problem will occur using the cloud, which obviously now
    monitors my personal version of CS6, as well.

  • Resizing Images for Websites

    I am creating a website for a Family Farm. I was wondering if there is any good way to resize images using iPhoto for quicker loading times in websites. Most of the images I want to use are from a digital camera and are huge files.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As Dalya mentioned using the File->Export->File Export menu option will let you set the pixel dimension and quality level (amount of jpeg compression) to achieve small files for web use.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Which approach to use for resizing image

    There are two ways of resizing images as I know:
    1. image.getScaledInstance(width,height,hint);
    Using hint like Image.SCALE_AREA_AVERAGING gives somehwat satisfactory resizing.
    2. static BufferedImage resize(GraphicsConfiguration gc, BufferedImage source, int w, int h, Object hintValue) {
    BufferedImage result = gc.createCompatibleImage(w, h, source.getTransparency());
    Graphics2D g2 = result.createGraphics();
    g2.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION, hintValue);
    double sx = (double) w / source.getWidth(), sy = (double) h / source.getHeight();
    g2.drawRenderedImage(source, AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(sx, sy));
    g2.dispose();
    return result;
    where the hint passed is RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR ;
    Now which of the two method method should I use-using image.getScaledInstance() or using AffineTranform ? opr is there any other way which is faster but provides good result?
    i am creating an image editor, so the GUI dialog will have oprtion to choose the algorithm. I want the method which provides better result yet faster.

    I need some help resizing my images on PS6. I am using a mac and have been trying to resize with same resolution and constaining proportions but for some reaseon the smaller resized image appears pizelated. Heres an image of before and after. The first image I use is a JPG 72dpi 1500px x1500px and I want to downsize it to 600x600px same res, but it keeps pixelating, this has never happened before. Any suggestions, thoughts?
    thanks!

    I wouldn't say pixelated; more like blurry.
    Like ConnectedCreative said, what steps are you using? Are you using "bicubic sharper" when resizing down?

  • Resizing an Image using pixels

    Hi I used to use Photoshop CS4 on another computer. I resize a lot of my images to 1024 pixel width. Howver in Photoshop Elements 7 (which I have just bought) and I can't find out how to resize the image using pixels as the units. I am doing 'Image Resize' It has a lot of units to choose from e.g. inches/picas/points. But no pixels. Please help! Thank you very much.
    Rich

    The top section is pixels. Turn on Resample Image and you can make changes there.

  • Resizing large quantites of images using image processor - STUCK

    I have upgraded to Photoshop CC. I am attempting to resize large quantites of images using the image processor. I need both the width and height set to an exact number for web use. When I enter the pixel size into the "resize" boxes and click run, the sizes i get are correct on one dimension but slightly off on the other dimension. When I just do one image at a time to these same dimensions it resizes correctly? It appears it only does when selecting large qunatites. Any suggestions?die

    Since you do not want to crop your images to a square 1:1 aspect ratio changing the canvas to be square will not make your images square they will retain their Aspect Ratio and  image size will be changer to fit within your 1020 px square. There will be a border or borders on a side or two borders on opposite sides.   You do not need a script because Photoshop ships with a Plug-in script to be used in Actions.   What is good about Plugins is the support Actions.  When you record the action the plug-in during action recording records the setting you use in its dialog into  the actions step.  When the Action is played the Plug-in use the recorded setting an bypasses displaying its dialog. So the Action can be Batch.  The Action you would record would have two  Steps.   Step 1  menu File>Automate>Fit Image... in the Fit Image dialog enter 1020 in the width and height  fields.  Step 2 Canvas size enter 1020 pixels in width and height  not relative leave the anchor point centered it you want even borders on two sides set color to white in the canvas size dialog. You can batch the action.
    The above script will also work. Its squares the document then re-sizes to 1020x1020  the action re-sizes the image to fit with in an area 1020 x 1020 then add any missing canvas. The script like the action only process one image so it would also need to be batched. Record the script into and action and batch the action. As the author wrote. The script re size canvas did not specify an anchor point so the default center anchor point is uses  like the action canvas will be added to two sides.

  • Resizing Image Window in Photoshop using Javascript

    I write many scripts using the ScriptListener as my base for obtaining my scripts. One of the steps I need is to resize the Image window so I can properly place a logo on an image. When I resize the image using File>Automate>Fit Image. The Image Window shrinks down and I have to use Control 0 or Command 0 to resize the image window to be able to view a larger image on the screen to place the logo.
    This is the Image Window Size after File>Automate>Fit Image
    I need ot make the Image Window Larger using Control or Command 0
    ScriptListener does not record this step of Control or Command 0.
    Is there a script that anyone knows that does this?
    It would be a great time saver if there was.
    Thanks in advance for assisting me.

    Hi Workflowmaster,
    Can you check the below mentioned script for your solution...
    I think it can be works.......

  • Need help on quality of resized image!!

    I am required to resize images to max 1240pixel (longest dimension) as a submission of work, though when work is viewed it will be at 30"x40".  Can not figure out a way to do this where images don't become quite pixelated when viewed at larger size.   Appreciate any suggestions.

    Is there some software to verify if my graphics card is shotty?
    Techtool Pro has some testing, the AHT tests VRAM, but game benchmarks and stressing will tell you the most.
    Is re-seating the graphics card or memory worth trying?
    Absolutely. Just don't reinstall the graphics card until you clean it thoroughly.
    Cleaning the dust out of my machine?
    YES. A dust filled graphics card heatsink will cause the GPU to cook, and cause problems thet you describe.
    If I need a new graphics card, what are my options? Do I have to purchase it via Apple store? I would like to stick with an Nvidia card so am I stuck buying the same card I currently have or can I upgrade?
    You don't have to buy from Apple, but using with OS X limits your choices to Mac compatible or flashable PC versions.
    There is an awful lot of user input into this topic here:

  • Upload and Resize Image not inserting filename in database

    I have a form that I created using the insert record form wizard. One of the fields is a file field and my form enctype is set to multipart/form-data. I then used the upload and resize image behavior and set the parameters. When testing the form the file uploads to the correct directory but no entry is made into the database for that particular field. The other fields are entered into the database just fine. If the reason is about memory, warning message should be happened when upload the image, because "show thumbnail" means resize at second time, how come you failed to resize the picture that system let it upload succeed at the first time by the same resize process?
    upload procedure
    a.jpg: 2722x1814, 1.2mb
    upload condition: fixed width 330px, 1.5mb
    "upload and resize" a.jpg -> file upload -> "resize engine" -> passed (but not work and no warning message)
    "show thumbnail" a.jpg -> "resize engine" -> failed (not enough memory)
    it doesn't make sense.
    and you miss an important key point, I upload the same picture myself, and resize work, so I said it happened at random, and that's why I am so worried.

  • Resizing images published through flickr, but I don't want it to.

    I set up a flickr connection with LR3, very cool. However it resized the image to 1024x768, though I have nothing set under 'resize'. Why is it doing that?  Do I have to set it to resize everything to 9000 pix and not enlarge for it to keep the original size?

    Setting the resolution to 9000 x 9000 wont make any difference. Or at least it did not for me.
    It could be a limitation of Flickr (no Pro account). Perhaps it is different with a Pro account.size file is being uploaded if you dont resize on output but you wont see it if you dont have a Pro account.
    In fact, from the Flickr site: Only smaller (resized) images accessible (though the originals are saved in case you upgrade later)
    This would suggest that your original size file is being uploaded if you dont resize on output but you wont see it if you dont have a Pro account.
