Resizing Inspector in iCal v4.0.3 (1388)

Question

I use the notes section of Inspector a fair bit (at my age the memory needs all the help it can get) but I am frustrated by the fact that I have to resize it each time I click on an event - it always seems to default back to a standard size which obscures all bar the first few lines of the notes.
Whilst the world will not end if I can't resolve this irritation I would be interested to learn if and how I can change the default size, either of all Inspector panels or of each individual [recurring] one.
I have tried resizing through the "Traffic Lights" and also by dragging the grab handle, but both only seem to work for that one opening of the panel - it goes back to the original size at the next visit.
It would be nice if it would automatically resize to the required size for that item or, as a second best, resize to the full depth of my screen. Whilst this latter would obviously expose an expanse of unneeded estate I can live with that!
