Resizing Multiple Page PDF file For OCR

On my Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac with OSX 10.8.5, I am using either Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Professional 10  to assemble PDF documents from a significant number of legacy page and map images (tiff). Unfortunately, it intreprets the tiff files to create a document that's about 36.7" by 50.06" in page size. Unfortunately, this size is too large to run through the OCR. I have tried print to a pdf on both Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Professional 10. When I attempt to it tells me I can't save to a pdf from print. Neither the tiffs nor PDFs that I made from them are password protected.
The suggested solutions, which I have found, do not solve my problem. Needless to say, simply printing them at a reduced size does not solve the problem of not being able to to run them through the OCR. Also, I have numerous pages, which makes resizing them individually in Photoshop simply too time consuming as a solution. Finally, neither I nor the company I work for have the money for third-party software that costs very much, over 80 to 100 dollars simply to solve this single problem.
How can I scale down the page size of either a multipage PDF file or as a batch of individual files within either Acrobat Professional 9 or 10 so I can run them through the optical character reader (OCR)?
Alternatively, is there software (Photoshop?) that I can use to batch resize the tiff files?

Bill@VT asked:
"Is the problem the size or the resolution? You are saying it is too large
to run through OCR, but I am not clear what the "large" refers to."
Being 36.07 inches by 50.06 inches, the image file it is too large in page size (inches) to run through the OCR. When I tried to OCR it, I get the following error message:
"Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because:
This page is larger than the maximum page size of 45 inches by 45 inches"
Also asked:
1. "When you say you tried to print, was that to the Adobe PDF printer?
Yes, that was to the Adobe PDF printer.
2. "Did you set the printer properties to compress the file to a smaller size?"
No, I did not set the printer to compress the file in order to make the file size smaller in terms of bytes.
3. "Have you tried printing the PDF you created to a new PDF using the shrink to fit option?"
Yes, I set the printer to creat a new PDF using the shrink to fit option in order to create a file that was smaller in terms of page size (inches) instead of file size (bytes). When I did it, I received an error message that stated:
"Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead choose File >Save."

  • Used to be able to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one and then it stopped and would only print the curent page. This is tedious for long PDF docs. I am on 10.6.8 .

Used to be ablert to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one printer and now I can only print the current page and therefore it takes forever printing them one by one. I am in version 10.6.8. Tried printing as image using the advanced click and that did not work either.  I have Adobe 9.0 reader installed.

I tried this earlier, and I tried it again today.  Both times it said "Software Missing!"  and "HP Software required to connect to your printer over the network could not be found on this computer."  But when I tried to install the software (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe, which I downloaded from HP's web site), it wouldn't install, as described above.  In the diagnostic utility, I clicked "skip", and it said "Connection Verified!", and "The printer is connected to the network and the services related to the network connections have been verified and reset to a normal operating state.  Everything appears to work fine at this point.  Please doa test print to verify that the issue is resolved or click Skip to move to the next step."  I clickedthe "Test Print" button, and immediately it popped up a box that said "Test Print Failed."
I tried again to install the HP software, and it installed, detected the printer, and asked me to select it.  I selected the printer, clicked "next", and it did its network diagnostics.  Then it said "Problem(s) found with your network" and "Problem(s) may exist with the network functions of your printer . . ."  I continued the installation without connecting to the printer.  Then I ran your network printer diagnostic tool again, and got the same result - "HP Software required to connect to youir printer over the network could not be found on this computer."

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.0.7 How do I rotate single page in a multiple page PDF file?

When I try rotating the page, it would rotate all of the pages in Adobe Reader. How can I rotate a single page out of the multiple page PDF file?

You can only rotate the entire document with the free Reader. And that only lasts for the current session. It is not permanent.

  • How to create multiple page pdf file

    Hello,
Sometimes I need to create multiple (more precisely double) page pdf file from another pdf file to reduce the printing cost of the document. For this I crop the single page document and then print it in a double page pdf file (in landscape).
But I am still facing a problem in this regard. When I make a double page pdf the gutter (distance between two pages, left and right) is more than 1.5 inch. This is a great problem. Can anyone tell me how to reduce the gutter when making a double page pdf file (don't just suggest to crop the single page pdf, i tried this as well, I cropped using the feature "remove white margin" but still there is more than 1.5 inch between two pages)
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    mathmad

When you print, select the printer properties for the Adobe PDF printer. On the layout tab is an option for the number of pages per sheet. In some versions it is listed as multi-up as I recall. I did not say to simply print from the 2-up display. It is a printer option, not a display option.

  • Multiple page PDF's for iTunes playlists

In the past I've been able to create multiple page PDF's of playlists, but for some reason in iTunes 10.1 it will only show me the first page. At the bottom of that page it'll say page 1 of 10, but the other 9 pages do not appear in the sidebar. I also know it's not generating multiple pages because when I save it to the desktop it appears instantly instead of taking a few seconds to process many pages.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!

When you save a PDF out of Illustrator and turn Illustrator editability on, what do you think Illustrator should do? It can only save content in its native format. For version CC, this is Illustrator CC. Illustrator CS6 doesn't know CC, so can't open it. Instead it opens the PDF part of the file, which happens to be mutliple pages.
If you need to establish this kind of workflow, you need to make sure, everyone uses the same version.

  • Integrating an Exisitng multiple page PDF file into a report and outputting as one PDF

    Post Author: sditmer
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
We would like to be able to  PDF files into a report based on a file name contained in the detail of the report. For Example, I have some data in our database relating to a specifc PDF file  including the name of the PDF that I would like to print in the header of the report and then print the actual PDF as the detail of the report. The PDF may be multiple pages so I would like the remaining pages of the report to follow on each page of my crystal report. Essentially I am trying to merge a  report header onto a mulitple page PDF file as a single report. Is this possible to do out of the BOX with Crystal? Do I need some other tools to do this?

Consider a 3rd-party tool as a solution (for a list of such tools, see http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html).My Visual CUT software allows you to automate the process of merging the pdf export of your reportwith a pdf file named based on a formula in the report.  The resulting merged pdf file can automatically be printed or emailed.

  • Turn a multiple page pdf file in to a one page scrollable file.

I have a 16 page PDF file that I want to appear as one long horizontal banner, is there a way to "merge" the pages in adobe acrobat?
Basically the opposite of tiling as far as I can tell...
    Thanks!

You can try print to Adobe PDF. In the print dialog change the pages per sheet.

  • Resizing multiple page PDF's

hi, hope I'm asking this i the right place... ! I'm creating a graphic design portfolio and i want to make it as easy as possible to view.
the 14 page pdf i have at the moment is too big to view onscreen, is there any way to resize the document, -or - is there a particular paper size that suits viewing onscreen?
    thanks in advance,
    ned .

I am not sure I completely understand your need: on screen viewing in most of the reasonable PDF viewing tools has as a default strategy to make the page fit inside the document window (you can increase the likelihood of this by adjusting the "Initial View" settings in the PDF, in Acrobat see File -> Document Properties -> Initial View).
Or are you rather not referring to page size, but to amount of data/file size? And not to onscreen viewing but online viewing over the internet? In that case, PDF Optimizer in Acrobat Professional might be your friend, it has numerous options to bring down file size.

  • I have an issue with a script that places multiple page PDF files...

I'm using a version of "PlaceMultipagePDF.jsx" that I modified to use Media Box when placing the PDF file pages.
That part was easy and works perfectly.
The issue I'm having it that every time it places a PDF page, InDesign pops up a dialog saying that it's Importing pages from "file" and Creating preview with a progress bar. This dialog pops up once for each page, and the UI time it takes to do this is slowing down the import.
So is there any way to turn off this feedback dialog?
Note: I still need to see the dialogs to choose the PDF file and pick the document and page to start placing. I just want the one that displays for each page to not display...

I found this in the Developer KB.
But I can't find any of the functions in the Scripting Ref...
How To: Suppress the progress bar when processing a command.
    Summary
You can suppress progress bar display by turning it off before processing the command.
    Issue
I use the IImportFileCmdData interface and pass kSuppressUI (do not display any UI) as UIFlags. When processing the command, I get a progress bar, which is called "Adobe InDesign Tagged Text Import Filter", whereas I expect no UI.
    Solution
To suppress progress bars you should explicitly turn them off before you process the command (or commands).
    1. Get the interface IProgressBarManager (it's on kAppBoss, which you can get from gSession).
    2. Use IProgressBarManager::SuppressProgressBarDisplay() to turn off the progress bars.
    3 .Process the place command(s).
    4. Turn the progress bars back on when you're done.
In InDesign 2.x and above, you can also use the SuppressProgressBarDisplay class (ProgressBar.h) class to achieve this. In order to use this class you just need to create an instance of the class on the stack as shown here:
    SuppressProgressBarDisplay suppress(kFalse);

  • Convert multiple page pdf to multiple jpg

Hi, is there anyway of converting a multiple page pdf file in preview to multiple jpgs in one go? I've tried selecting all, but it still only converts one page into a jpg, when using the "save as" function. I'm currently having to convert each page in the file individually, which is rather time-consuming. If preview can't do it, is there any other software (preferably not too expensive) that can?
Many thanks for your help in advance

    juleshorst,
Ok Here is the best way I could find to take a PDF and make each page its own jepg image.
    1. Open (Automator) on the window that opens it asks for a starting point I would Select (Files & Folders) the big Finder image. For the settings on it I would select (my mac) and (Ask For Files & Folders when my workflow runs) from the drop down menus, that way you can save it and reuse it latter.
    2. I would drag the (PDF to images) automation under the (Ask for Finder Items) automation. To find said (PDF to images) you can either search for it or it can be found in the PDF section on the left.
    3. After which I would drag the (Change Type of Images) automation under the (PDF to images) automation, I would say Don't add to the (This action will change the image type ...... ect ect.....), and I would select (To Type (jpeg)) from the drop down menu. To find said (Change Type of Images) once again you can search in the search box or you can find it in the Photos section on the left.
    4. Run Automation, the button is located in the top right. Select the PDF you want to turn into jpeg pages and there you go.
I hope that this helped with your issue.

I am not aware of a way except for photos that allows you to select multiple files in an email. I even checked settings in the Adobe Reader app, and it does not show that ability.

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!
    Hans-Günter
