Resizing PDF's

I have many large (8 to 200 Meg) file size pdf's made up of images I need to make website links to.  I can use them as is, but ended up buying Acrobat X Standard to help me make them smaller and more quickly accessible.  I used Acrobat X to extract (export) the images from the pdf into a folder, I used software I have to batch resize the images to a smaller size, then I used Acrobat X to combine the resized images into a (much smaller) Fast Web View pdf again.  When starting the combine process, I get an error stating "error (file skipped)" for all the converted images, so I don't get a combined pdf.  If I use some freeware I got to extract the images from the pdf, batch resize (same way I did for Acrobat extracted images), Acrobat X lets me combine those without the error.  Why can't I do all of this from Acrobat?
Thank you for a response.

It might be possible to deal with it all within Acrobat, but a lot depends on your settings. One approach is to start with the PDF Optimze option in FILE>Save As. You can set the resolution of graphics and such. Another way, though not generally recommended is to simply print the PDF to a new PDF an select a different page size and set the resolution you desire in the job settings. You can change the page size in the printer properties and then print to fit page or expand to fit, etc.
To extract the images, that can be done from the tools or advanced menu (another one of those features they move around). It saves each image with the file name, page number, and image number on the page. You could then use PhotoShop to resize or a product like IrfanView (free), though I am not sure about the batch process.
For a really large job, the print process is probably the fastest, though not necessarily the cleanest.

  • Can adobe acrobat XI pro resize pdf files?

Looking for a software program that allows you to resize pdf files.  Can Acrobat XI Pro do this?

There may be a preflight script for what you want. The other way is not generally recommended based on the loss of markup and the modification of graphic resolution and such, but you can print the PDF to a new size with shrink to fit selected. As I said, it is not recommended, but might meet your need. You can also do some adjustment with the crop tool, but it depends on what your goal is.
If you are talking about the file size, that is a different issue and the Save As Other > Reduce File Size or Optimize PDF are the typical approaches.

  • Resizing PDFs with Adobe PDF Pack

Our office uses Adobe PDF Pack for combining PDFs and conversions. However, when we send reports via email our PDF attachments are too large for the email to be sent.  Is there a way to resize the file using Adobe PDF Pack, or do we need to buy Adobe Acrobat (I know using Adobe Acrobat to resize you do the PDF Optimizer)?
    Thank you in advance.

Yes, you'll need Acrobat Pro. (which has the optimizer) to reduce the file size of a PDF.

  • OS X resizing PDF problem.

    hi everyone!
i have an indesign file that needs to be resized to 15.24cm x 22.86cm for printing.
using the setup option within the file>print dialogue  i am unable to resize it. the options are just greyed out. i dont have any printers installed at the moment. as we speak i am downloading some drivers for the epson r2880, but am wondering if you guys know an alternate method to resize this thing? i am in a huge rush!
many thanks for your advice in advance, i really appreciate it right now

Place the PDF (or the original Indesign document if you have it) into a new Indesign document that is the size you want it.  Re export it and you're done!  If it's multiple pages use this truly awesome script.

  • Resizing PDF in ID CS3

I sometimes get advertisements for publication as PDFs. One of them is about
twice the size of the space he's paying for. How do I get the highest
quality end result, which is B/W sheet-fed offset from a PDF produced by ID
CS3? Do I squash the ad in ID (it's still legible at half size), or do I
resize it in PSE6 and place it as a greyscale TIFF at the right size? If the
latter, do I include the ICC profile?
    Noel

You might want to preflight the ad before you go too far.
I'm always suspicious that someone who can't provide an ad at the correct size may not be able to provide it with embedded fonts and the correct colors, either.
It's always better to learn that early than to find out when the prepress guy tries to RIP it to make the plates the pressman is waiting for. :)

  • Photoshop Resizes pdf upon open

I'm trying to open a pdf file in photoshop (cs3). The pdf open dialog box clearly shows that the image size is accurate (30x42"), but once the file is open image size indicates that the size is smaller (21x30"). I don't want to resize because that just pixelates. If I do a save as and open in Acrobat, the size is the smaller size, but the original is the larger size.
What's going on, how do I fix it? Help! Thanks!

  • Script to resize pdf-files by percentage

    Dear all,
I have a rather simple problem: I need to resize a collection of several pdf files (around 60) by a certain percentage, because those files are included in a text (LaTex) - and I need to change the LaTex page style (in other words: the layout) - so that my old images are all a bit too large for the layout; thus I want to do a quick-and-dirty solution and resize them all by a certain percentage (defined by the difference between my old layout and the new, more slim one).
So - the simple question is: does anyone know either if there is simple free software out there that can do this (I didn't find any - and Acrobat 9 doesn't offer the possibility to change the dimensions of pdf images) - or, b) if this would be possible to do with Applescript? Off course, I wouldn't mind a ready-made script - but, since I don't know, but want to learn Applescript, I thought that this might be a good task to start with - although I also need a solution in 3 to 4 days - hope it wouldn't be a too frustrating task to start with...
    Thanks for any hints!
    With kind regards,
    Björn

    Hello
You might try something like the following script.
It will a) resize the pdf image by using Image Events and save it as png and b) convert png to pdf by png2pdf.
You'd need to have png2pdf installed in advance.
(Image Events can open pdf but cannot save as pdf according to the document.)
The script will let you choose source folder where original pdfs reside and destination folder where modified pdfs are to be stored. Also it will let you specify scaling factor. After that it will open each pdf file (*.pdf) in source folder, resize and save as new png file in destination and then convert the png to pdf (and delete png if successful). Hopefully it's like that.
Script is NOT tested and I don't know how good (or bad) Image Events and png2pdf are, for I don't use OSX for myself. Sorry about that.
    Good luck,

  • Resizing pdf

Hi , I am having a problem resizing a pdf document (I have adobe acrobat pro 8).
Basically it is a large pdf and when viewed at 100% it is too big for the page. Is there anyway that I can resize it so that when at 100% fits the page? I don't want to use the "reflow" option because it messes up the pdf completely, all the images go to the bottom.
    any idea?

Actually no you're right, it won't be just on my system, I appreciate what Daniel Flavin said about differences on different monitors...but still what will be the way to resize it, just out of interest?

  • Help with resizing PDF's

I am in a company that draws plans for houses, similar to an architects.
Our problem is we are currently using a 2000i Autodesk cad based program and when we PDF
our files end up at about 14mb, while we sometimes come across other architects plans which are about 1mb
I was told to try out adobe acrobat 9pro to test if using out program with adobe we can reduce the PDF’s to 5mb max
I have tried several different options but the smallest I got was 12mb which meant changing the image quality to 300dpi which is very bad quality
We need it atleast 600dpi. Can anyone help me out how I must change it so it works out?
We are using the trial version for now as there is no point paying $500 for the program if it cant reduce the file size to as low as we want it.
I have tried an optimizer option and distiller and no change in size. the optimizer says that 98.17% of the file consists of content streams.
Or is it because we are using the trial version that we cant reduce the actual size of PDF’s?
while if i try and use the PDF option when rightclick on the file itself it leaves it at 3mb the whole file but it comes up as a pure line drawing not hiding the elements that are required.

The trouble is primary with pictures, not documents.  The logo  is not the
Adobe logo but looks like a sailboat.  The document says  that it opens with
Adobe 9.3 (loaded on my computer) but then I get the error  sign.
    Thanks,

  • Batch or script cropping, renaming and resizing pdf's

    HELP!
I'm desperatley looking for a way to do the folowwing in one batch or script with a complete folder of pdf's with printer marks and bleeds:
    Crop
Create a file of 600*800 pixel on 72dpi with the addition of the word 'groot_' in front of the file name.
Create a file of 300*400 pixel on 72dpi with the addition of the word 'klein_' in front of the file name.
I work with CS4 on the mac.
I have looking for a solution for a couple of days and found a work around:
Cropping the files in a batch with acrobat.
Create a 600*800 file with a photoshop script.
The same thing for the 300*400 file.
Add the words in front of the files with apple automator.
This are 5 actions with 3 programs. I'm happy I found some way but I have the idea it could be done alot easier. Best would be with 1 script or batch in 1 program since I have to do this at least once a month and want to be able to instruct others as well without it being to complicated.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks!!!

Yes this is doable in one go with script. You don't have to crop the PDF files in Acrobat is you set which PDF box to use with Photoshop's PDF open options. The only things that get a little more tricky are dealing with multi-page PDF's…

  • Resize pdf page's without PDF Printer

With the removal of the PDF printer when utilizing Acrobat 9.1 and above on OS 10.6 the availability of printing an eps to a customer size has been eliminated.  How can this be achieved without printing to a new file.  Cropping will not work as it will not reduce the image area, only crop it.

  • No Longer Able To Resize Images (PDF Attachments)

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and am now unable to resize my PDF attachments once they are within an email.
Maybe I'm missing something, but in the older version of Mail / Leopard I was able to easily resize my attached PDF's on the fly by simply adjusting their size from a drop-down menu in the lower-right corner of the email window by selecting: Image Size: "Small" "Medium" "Large" or "Actual Size."
To the best of my knowledge, this window no longer exists for PDF's, although it is still available for attached JPEG resizing.
I am deeply invested into using and resizing PDF's in my workflow and would like to regain this ability.
Any suggestions or solutions for this dilemma would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

Please check this further -- make sure you open the PDF with a PDF reader in a copy either sent to yourself or in the Sent mailbox. Do not base the resolution on what you see if it is a one page PDF, and Mail is displaying it in the message with View in Place. The View in Place is not the full story.
