Resizing Pictures

Can some one tell me how to resize a picture using iPhoto or another application?
( I am trying to make the pictures bigger for a slide show )

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't make a picture larger in pixels than it already is. At least not without considerable image quality loss. In Photoshop and Photoshop Elements one can increase the pixel dimension but, as I warned, the image quality will suffer. Besides the two editors I mentioned there are some others that may be able to do what PS does as far as enlarging: GraphicConverter or Pixelmator.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Abobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 resizing pictures?
I just rencently got Photoshop Elements 5.0 and I have Windows XP service pack 2 and I read the help and did some things. I need to make some pictures smaller or bigger so the people I want in my banner look aroung the same size. When I try to resize the image it resiazes everything or I use the square tool and try to resize it my self but the pictures becomes out of shape. Also if I dont need all of my canvas that I created when I try to crop it t makes the pictures cut off. IS there a way to just get rid of the bottom od the canvas that I didn't do anything with? Here is a banner I made using photoshop and see the girls head is bigger cause I don't know how to resize it. http://i12.tinypic.com/2mcy245.jpg... I went to paint to cut off the extra canvas that was in the picture. I had used The Gimp before I used photoshop and with Gimp I knew how to resize pictures to place on another picture.
    Additional Details
the crt + t makes my picture look bad. I guess I have to reseize myt pictures in gimp to make anything then.

while in the Transform tool, tick ON the "Constrain Proportions" tickbox at the top. then when you move a handle, the image will resize poprtionaltely instead of distorting.

  • Resize pictures on pavilion windows 8.1

Can't seem to resize pictures I want to use as Desktop or Lock Screen pics.  They come across as too huge for the display, and are cut off no matter what I change the graphics to.
Any suggestions on how to get NORMAL looking pictures on my laptop?  Why doesn't it just adjust the pic when I choose it for the display?

    Hi,
You can "Fill", "Fit" .... as shown:
    Please
    (a) right click a blank space on desktop,
    (b) Select Personalize,
    (c) Click Desktop background to select image
    (d) Use one of above options
    (e) Click Apply/Ok/Change .

  • IOS 7 - Does not allow to resize picture

IOS 7 - Does not allow to resize picture to its original size when setting the picture as a wallpaper.    Please test and verify software before release.  This seems like a pretty silly mistake.  Fix this wallpaper resize issue and release new OS.

While you are waiting for the fix, have you tried this User Tip? It might work on your phone too:

  • Why can't resize picture to use for wallpaper?

What program can I use to resize picture for wallpaper. The new system won't let you resize.

I suggest using a photo editor on your computer. There may be one on the iPad that let's you resize a photo to specific pixel dimensions. PhotoForge2 allows you to do that but since Google bought PhotoForge it is no longer in the App Store.
Using your image processing app, increase or decrease the image size to one of the following, depending on the device you’re targeting:
    iPad 2 and iPad mini: 1,424 x 1,424
    iPad 3 and iPad 4: 2,448 x 1,936
    iPad Air: 2,448 x 1936
    iPhone 4S: 1,360 x 1,040
    iPhone 5: 1,536 x 1,040

Most likely, you inadvertently triggered Hide Bounding Box. To rectify, choose View > Show Bounding Box.
    (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+B toggles this.)

  • How resize pictures in table on PAGES 5.2?

The new version 5.2 was be optmized for import image in table, but how resize these pictures in table?

DO NOT use Pages 5.2.    Use Keynote or Numbers.  The latest versions of these apps are stable.  Pages 5.2 nothing but trouble.
Here is what I do with my art, which must be perfect for commercial printing and other purposes.
Export the page with your table and art out as a PDF.  Then bring the PDF into Adobe Illustator and make any changes you need to get the art looing exactly like what you want.  Save the art from AI ouit to PDF.  AI creates bullet proof PDF files.  Then drag the clean PDF back into Pages.
One reason AI is the preferred route is that Adobe comlpliant PDF files  are the standard in the commercial printing industry.  These days, all files going to commercial printers must be in clean PDF format.  As you would expect, there are some excellent apps for pre-flighint PDF files.
The final reason for using PDF for art is that your illustrations will move cleanly into iBook Author for iBooks and apps for creating international standard ePubs and Amazon MOBI files.

  • How do you resize pictures in cs5.5?

I just got cs5.5, coming from a much older version (not sure which)...
Previously, after I placed a picture, I could change the size of the picture by typing in the exact height or width. Now when I do that it crops the picture to that width or height instead of resizing it.
I have figured out that if I check the "Auto Fit" button, it works. But I typically am working with hundreds of pictures, and I don't want to have to check the box with every single picture. How can I do this???

On a picture that I had already clicked autofit, and applied an object style saved from previous versions, it resized it, but added a white border inside my blue border. but these same files are acting funny before i try this. Since there is an object style, it won't let the files be exactly 3 inches like i ask. every time i type 3 in the height or width box, it automatically makes it 3.11111. so when i try to type 3 in the scale field, it works, but shrinks the picture and adds the border.
your method does work for pictures that have not yet been touched, although i'm not excited about having to type in "in" everytime for hundreds of pictures. there has to be an easier way.

  • Resize Pictures for Drop Zone?

I read a thread from about a year ago that brought up resizing images to get them to fit in a drop zone correctly. I just started using idvd and just ran into this problem, and it truly annoys me that Apple wouldn't allow resizing and image within idvd to get it to fit, or drag what part of the image shows in the drop zone...
Anyone have a solution, or is this still a "pay to get it" type of thing with pro tools...

So what you really need is to reposition the image within the drop zone (as opposed to resizing) .... is this correct?
If so, have you already tried holding down the control key as you click and drag the image to the desired position?
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:
From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:

If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.

If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.

If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

  • How to resize pictures in iPhoto09 ?

    Hi there,
How to resize the pictures in iPhoto09 ?
The picture that I imported into iPhoto09 is too big for my liking. How can I resoze & make it smaller ?
    Thanks

Perhaps it would be helpful to explain what it is you are trying to accomplish.
Is it that you are trying to save drive space and want to reduce the file size of the photos? Or is it that you need to send the photos somewhere (upload, email, etc.) and again the file size is an issue? Or is it that you want to make a print and need to know how to print it out in the size you want:? Or do they simply look to big on your screen and you want to display them smaller?
    Patrick
    Thanks Patrick,
My purpose is to edit the picture so that I bring them into iMovie09.
When I placed them into iMovie09, they simply look to big on the screen and I need it to display smaller
    Thanks

  • Can you resize pictures in pixels mode?

I currenly have Photoshop Elements 7, but am using PSE1, because in 7, when I go to scale a picture, and even though is says the picture is say 1600x1200 pixels, the scaling part only lets you choose from Percent, inches, cm, mm, points, picas and columns. Even in the Resolusion mentions pixels, as pixels/inches and pixels/cm.
I only work in pixels when with sizes, and when scaling down pictures, I like to be able to input the dimensions (in pixels) I want to scale the images. Why did Adobe pull a thing like that out? Was it that much to leave the option of pixels in the program? Or is there a way of selecting pixels I didn't think of? Sometimes I do overlook things, no matter how hard I look for the answer.
    Thanks

Thank you ever so much! I was so annoyed by that...after getting it, to find out I coudn't select it. I never paid attetion to that resample choicebox at the bottom of the resizing window...and even if I did, I may not have guessed that was the solution...man, I feel so dumb for not seeing that. Thank you, thank you, Thank you very, so very much.
