Resizing the icons in the dock

Can anyone tell me how to resize the icons in my dock, they appear too small for my liking? I have omitted a bunch to give more space but this has made no difference. Any pointers would be appreciated. Ta.

Here's the quick way to resize the Dock:
The separator bar to the right of your Application icons can be dragged up and down.
Also try holding Option while dragging if you want it to snap to preset sizes.

Setting the Dock to Exactly 32 Pixels

I want to set the dock to exactly 32 pixels, but the slider gives no numerical value. I have a set of sleek 32 pixel icons that look great when viewed on the desktop, but I just can't get them to the right size in the dock.

The Dock only uses the 128x128 icon resources, so even if you resize the Dock so that the icons are 32x32, it's going to scale down the 128x128 icon to that size. It does not switch to the 32x32 icon resource.
Also, I just checked and, even if you're using an icon that only has the 32x32 size, it will still not appear correctly in the Dock. It will still have a slightly blurred appearance. So, unfortunately, the Dock is not able to display icons in the way that you were looking for. I don't believe that there is a way around this problem.

Resizing a window that extends over the Dock

Sometimes a window extends over the Dock, and it becomes difficult to 'select' the little triangle in the bottom right to resize the window. Any attempt to do so 'sees' the Dock icon instead of the window that's overlapping the Dock.
The only way I have found to get around this is to move the window over to the right far enough to get that triangle in the clear space to the right of the Trash icon.
Is that the only way? (Is there perhaps a keystroke that incrementally resizes the selected window to a smaller size than the current one?)

Just enter the name of the application, e.g. Safari, FireFox. You can set the bounds in the script to anything you want, of course.
It would be nice to be able to detect the frontmost application but so far I can't do that (it sees the script as the frontmost application which is logical enough).

Changing Icons in the dock size

Ok, so I go to various sites and get Mac Icons. I have a Wall-E picture pack, comic book hero picture pack, etc.
Except the icon they show on the download screen is so much bigger. When I put them in the dock, they're much smaller. I have seen Mac desktop shots online that users post and the icons are bigger.
I have tried the sliders for the Dock and it barely does anything.
Do I need to get a program to resize them?

How many apps do you have in your Dock? The more apps you have, the smaller they necessarily have to be. If you don't want to reduce the number of apps, the other recourse, if you want to see the icons larger, is to turn on magnification (right-click on the dock separator, Turn Magnification On).

I'm on ff 3.5.5 for Mac. I've been prompted twice to download latest version. Each time I have dragged the ff icon from applications folder to the dock and all seems ok. But next time I start ff it says I'm on 3.5.5 and should update to latest version!

There was no "update failed" message
I wonder whether I'm doing the right thing when I drag to the dock. There's only one ff icon in the applications folder. The first time I was prompted to update it showed that days date next to the icon as if the update was successful. The second time was a few days later but I think it was still the same date next to the icon (25/8/10) I've only just noticed that (on 10/9/10) so can't be sure but I'm sure the second time was around 2nd or 3rd of Sept.
Also, I am running two versions of ff- one is english, the other is the Italian version. They can't be opened at the same time but they seem to talk to eachother in the background, so to speak, because when I open one after a long gap, it opens with all the history and settings of the other one, right up to the last website I went to. I think I closed both when updating because it prompts you to close all programmes and restart (I think/ remember) so I just clicked ok to that prompt.
By the way, I got the prompt to update twice for ''BOTH'' the Italian and the English version- so 4 times altogether so it would seem that ff does recognise them as separate but still has problems concluding the update for each separate one respectively.

Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.
Install the new version that you have downloaded.

I downloaded Maverick and now I can't open pages from the Dock. The Pages icon just jumps up and down abut doesn't open. However, I can one pages by clicking on the App. I have an iMac with iWork 08.

Since upgrading to Maverick from Mountain Lion I am unable to open Pages from the Dock. When I click on the pages icon in the dock the icon just keeps bouncing up and down. However, I can open pages by clicking on the icon in the Apps folder. No problems prior to upgrading to Maverick.

Quit Pages. Drag its icon out of the Dock. Create a new one by dragging the application into the Dock. Test.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. Any answers out there?

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..

Just updated to 7.0.1 for Mac Snow Leopard, but the icon in my dock isn't the firefox symbol, it's a "document" icon. How can I get the firefox icon in my dock again?

I was given an auto-update message from Firefox, which asked me to restart the program to initiate the update. As soon as Firefox restarted, I got a weird document icon in my dock - in the place where the Firefox icon was moments before. I had this problem. Re-instal Firefox. After you drag the Firefox icon in to the Applications icon it is going to ask you if you're sure that you want to replace the version that's there - say yes. Then go down to your dock and remove the Firefox icon - drag it off the dock so it "poof!s" away. You can now put the icon on your dock again from your newly updated version. If that doesn't fix it drag it off the dock again, probably no need to re-update for the third time. Fixed it for me anyway. GL!

Hi Terence, I hope you can help me too. I have a problem with opening iPhoto. It has always worked fine but now as soon as I click on the icon in the Dock or connect my camera I get the enclosed screen (see below). I have tried to re-install from iLife 11 Install Disk with no joy. I have moved my plist file to Trash. Any further suggestions please will be greatly appreciated.

How do I retrieve the icons in the download map of my 2009 iMac with Maverick. They show up in the finder, but not when I open downloads from the dock.

I have a 2009 iMac running on Mavericks. Since a few days, when I open the Download Map from the dock, I only see "empty" icon symbols. When I leave the map open the icons re-appear after some 20 seconds. When I re-open the downloads, the icons are empty again.

bro I just had this issue its as simple as swiping to the right of each album artwork that does not display in the list view (On your Iphone.) Once you swipe to the right on every album that does not display in the list view you will see the delete option come up. Hit delete! Dont be scared. Do this with every album art that does not show up and then resync your Iphone. Go to the list view again and all of your missing album artwork will be displayed in both the list overview and close up landscape mode.

Could be a third party app preventing you from being able to login.

If it's not a third party issue, follow the instructions here.
Quit the MAS if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder.
Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files from the Caches folder to the Trash
From the same Library folder open the Preferences folder.
Move these files Preferences folder to the Trash: com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
Same Library folder open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the MAS.
