Resizing to panoramic without stretching

My local newspaper has a section for readers to submit photos of the area.  They require that the photo be 10x2 for a panoramic.  Every time I try to resize to these dimensions, the image gets stretched out and doesn't look quite natural.  Other entries by other readers look ok.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks for any input.

As MTSTUNER says, the point is not to resize the image but to crop it to the required aspect ratio.  That is 5:1 (=10x2 or 2000x400).
You start out with a "regular" size image and crop.  Unless you create a stitched panorama, which is another story.

  • How do I resize an image without stretching it?

I have an image of approx. 1000x1000px...  I need to make the image 500x200.  Everytime I try to resize the image it comes out looking "stretched".  Is there any way of resizing or shrinking the image in photoshop without distorting the image?
    Thanks!

Going from a 1:1 square aspect ratio to a 5:2 aspect ratio is quite a change in aspect ratio with out distortion at all you would need to crop off 60% the image or add canvas.  If you look at it this way you get a better understanding
Downsize the image from 1000x1000px to 500x500px and there will be no distortion now cut that image into two peices one 500x200 pixels leave 500x300 its a 40% 60% split
The other way is Downsize the image from 1000x1000px to 200x200px  there will be no distortion now add canvas to make the image 500x200pxb you will have what you want no distortion your whole image with a 300x200 side border

  • How to increase the size of text boxes in FCPX without stretching the text inside?

How to increase the size of text boxes in FCPX without stretching the text inside?

There are two basic Title formats — I should say Layouts — available:  Text (plain) and Paragraph.  (The plain text version usually does not appear with the blue dot controls — those generally appear for the paragraph type control.)
If the Title is using a Paragraph layout, it's like having a mini version of Text Edit available inside FCPX. You can tell when you click on the text (when the title is selected) -- a rectangle will appear around the text like so:
double clicking on the text will give you the bounds controls which you can use to redefine the text area without distorting the text. Once selected, notice the button that appears in the top right corner of the canvas:
Pressing that will activate the ruler. You can right click on the ruler and add Tab Stops (left, right, center and decimal.)
So if the title uses paragraph formatting, you can create a very WYSIWYG type of display text (use the Text inspector to alter text selections within the paragraph bounds.)

  • Taking 4:3 to 16:9 without stretching..?

Is there an app (MPEG Streamclip or something) that can add black "pillars" (opposite of letterbox) to a 4:3 clip so it won't stretch in 16:9 ..?

You can "pillarize" your video (did I just coin a new term?) with MPEG Streamclip. Drop your 4:3 video in the app and select what format you'd like to export it to. Let's say, for qualities sake, you choose "Export to QuickTime" and select Apple DVCPRO50. Select the "FRAME SIZE" you want, which will most likely be 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 if you're striving for 16:9. Interlaced scaling will be pre-selected by default, and you may as well leave it selected. Just for the **** of it select "Better Downscaling." Can't hurt...supposedly improves the quality of conversions, though the conversions take slightly longer.
Okay, on to the pillars. One of the adjustment selections you'll see is "ZOOM," which changes the aspect ratio of the video. Leave the first setting where it is at 100%. It's the next setting called "X/Y" where the pillar/letterbox action is. You'll notice X/Y offers three choices. The first, by default, is "1." That simply leaves the video at the mercy of the frame size you've selected - meaning that it would stretch your 4:3 into a 16:9 video. Not what you want. The next choice is "1.333." That'll letterbox your video, which is great for converting 16:9 to 4:3. It's the last choice offered that'll give you pillars - "0.75." After selecting it click the "Preview" button to see if the adjustment takes you where you want to go. If it doesn't, than I've completely misunderstood your question! Sorry.
Incidentally, you can remove the pillars/letterboxing by changing the Zoom field from 100% to 133.3%, which would enlarge your picture to fit 16:9 without stretching it. Quality may suffer a bit, but it's worth experimenting with. (The Zoom "Center" feature is usually left at zero, unless you want to move the picture to the left or the right a bit).

  • How can I resize an image without losing resolution or using the crop tool? I am using Photoshop Elements 13 on a PC.

How can I resize an image without losing resolution or using the crop tool? I am using Photoshop Elements 13 on a PC.

    Hi Peru Bob,
I've tried two images, the results were:
    Image 1
    Jpg, original file size 923KB, dimensions 848px x 279px.
After resizing to 848px x 180px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 164KB.
    Image 2
    Jpg, original file size 809KB, dimensions 1200px x 1800px.
After resizing to 668px x 722px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 307KB.
So, there seems to be a fair file size loss - is this to be expected?

  • Resize A Image Without Losing Quality

I have been reading about how to best resize image in PS CS4/CS5.  I've read that you should increase the size of a image in increments and I’ve also read that you should resize using the bicubic smoother setting in PS.
The image that I would like to resize is 5W x 7H and resolution of 150. I would like to print this image at 30W x 40H on a HP Designjet 5500ps.
Any recommendation on how I should go about resizing the image without losing quality?

No matter which method you used, scaling up a photo 5 times is going to look very good.
There are some software that purports to scale up an image without blurry edges. Not sure how well they work.
If you can obtain the original image and rescan it at a higher resolution that would work better.
Or, if the photo can be easily recreated as a vector drawing, then do that with illustrator and print it out large.
Or if you or someone you know is a great artist, then scale up the photo in photoshop (which would become blurry), then hand correct the edges to make them sharp. This requires drawing ability.

  • Resizing parent movieclip without affecting the children

    Hi all,
What's the best way of  resizing parent movieclip without affecting the children?
I have a container movieclip that resizes depending on the stage, and when I add another movieclips to it they also resize, but I want them to keep the original size,
    is it possible?
    Many thanks

    Hi, thanks for the reply,
I already tried this way, I put a bitmap as a background of the movieclip and made only it dependent on the stage size,
    something like that:
mc.bg.width = stage.stageWidth; (and not mc.width, as its width will change along with the bg width)
so when I add children to the mc, they don't change any more.
I'm a .NET developer and new to Flash platform, and I think it would be nice from the community to make a built in property for MovieClip class -
    resizeChildren: Boolean
I lost a whole day on this problem, because when I drew a movieclip in a designer side I saw that its background size changed along with the size change, and when I added children to it from the code the movieclip's size changed and the background stayed still, quite strange behavior for an HTML guy
I think that it would be better to consider already drawn movieclip not to have any children yet and have its background as its part (not at(0)) and let the programmer choose later added children's resize behavior.
    thanks again

  • Can You Add The Widescreen Filter Without Stretching Video In iDVD ?

I'm sure I have asked this in the past but cannot find the answer and my memory is lousy!
I have added the Widescreen Filter to all the clips in a normal 4:3 DV sequence and everything looks OK.
I export the QT Movie and when viewed in QT Player it still looks OK as a letterboxed 4:3.
However, when I import it into iDVD or DVDSP I cannot stop it from being ridiculously stretched.
I have tried setting projects as 4:3 and 16:9 in iDVD but the video always appears in the preview window badly stretched.
Is it possible to make it appear as 16:9 without distorting the image?

Would you Adam and Eve it !
It was less than 8 weeks ago I was saying how it worked perfectly!!!!!
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8207730&#8207730
However, now when I preview a movie (with the WS filter) in iDVD (or Simulate it in DVDSP) the image receives extra stretching.
Is it just that it normally appears like that in the preview but will play OK when burned to a DVD ?

  • Making my Flash Canvas / HTML5 responsive without stretching project?

So I'm really close to completing this Flash-based Canvas project. Issue is I want it to scale down for different browser sizes. I kind of have that now.....sort of.
Let me try to explain. I have this link: Punk Rock Fitness | Made in LA Fitness | Los Angeles, CA
Which is 100% width but cuts off the height.
Then I have this link: http://purcraft.com/madeinla/home2_height.html
Which is 100% height but depending on your browser, it stretches out the height to fit. Which makes sense but it isn't ideal.
Same problem with 100% height and width......you get that fun house mirror effect, which isn't so desirable.
So what I'd like to find is a piece of script that makes my project 'responsive' so it scales much at the same ratio of the movie, without distortion. This movie is 1200x768 so for example, on an iPad it might be 768x492 on a 768x1024. Make sense?

I forgot to mention but when I check the WP-based page, I get the following two errors in Console:
TypeError: cjs.MovieClip is not a constructor
    }).prototype = p = new cjs.MovieClip();
    home2.js (line 170, col 19)
TypeError: lib.home2 is not a constructor
    exportRoot = new lib.home2();

  • Resizing an image without AWT

    Hello, here is my question:
I have seen many examples on the Web explaining how to resize an image in Java. All of them use AWT. The problem is, my application is web-based, hosted on a server without X11 installed. Now, I know from the Java2D FAQ that from Java 1.4, you should be able to bypass this problem by setting this system property: "-Djava.awt.headless=true". But unfortunately, I don't have access to the system properties either. My website is hosted by a company sharing it's servers between many customers, and therefore, I cannot customize the Caucho Resin server to fit my needs.
So I'm wondering if there's any other way to resize an image in a web application with Java.
    Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately, it does not seem to work... I'm still getting an "Exception Class:      class java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError" error as soon as I try to use the "getGraphics" method on the webhost's server. It works on my local machine, thought. Here's the trace I'm getting:

  • RESIZING GIF IMAGES WITHOUT LOSING ANIMATION

Is it possible to resize a Gif image without losing animation?  I tried but unfortunately lost the animation. I use CS3 Extended.  Thanks

No, I don't think so. for that, you'd probably have to import your animation using the Video to Layers option, resize, then rebuild the animation and export it.

  • How to resize large images without losing quality

Hello I have an image that I am trying to use as an email. Right now it is 2108 pixels. And for an email it should be 600 px. I created this image in illustrator as vectors and type.
Whenever I go into image size and i change it to be 600 pixels it gets extremely blurry. I have also tried converting this to a smart object... doesnt work. How do I resize my large image to be smaller without losing quality???

here is an example sceenshot of the opening dialog (.ai opened directly in Photoshop)
your illustrator vector should be rastered sharp at 100% actual Pixels in Photoshop
that is where you want to evaluate sharpness in Photoshop...
then File> Save for Web & Devices (and drag that saved file icon into an open web browser)
still no joy, embed your saved image here using the forum's camera icon...
