Resizing vector images

Hi,
I tried to search the forum but any & all keywords brought up 0 results.
- Can photoshop elements resize vector graphics?
- Is PSD a vector graphic format? If so, anything special that I need to do or just Image > Resize?
thx,
Marc
Ascendo

Elements will be able to open any of  the formats given in your links.
The vector pdf versions can be opened, but at this stage, a dialog will ask you how (at what size or ppi) you want to import it, and it will be opened as a raster file, like the psd, png which are offered here. (jpeg is not adequate, since it can't show transparency).
So, I'll answer with another question, for what purpose do you want to resize : printing, showing on a display ? Upsizing or downsizing ? There is generally no problem with dowsizing. If you want to upsize, handle this at the import stage of the pdf by stating the required dimensions/ppi.
PSE has limited capacities with vectors : mainly shapes and text, but no problem to handle bitmaps.

  • How do I resize an image in Photoshop CS2?

    Hi! I'm trying to resize an image in Photoshop Cs2 with OUT making it grainy or blurred. Please help!? I know there's some key you can hold down while dragging with the mouse but eh I forgot it! o_0 please help!

    Jody...
    If you have a vector version of the logo, the smartest thing is to resize it as vectors to the size you want, and
    then
    rasterize it.
    Case in point:
    I was trying to make a 16px × 16px favicon for my blogspot site, and the only way I could get the details to appear nice and clean was to create the entire thing from shape layers, transform them all in one go to fit inside a 16px × 16px box I defined using guidelines, and THEN rasterize it using the Save For Web dialogue.

  • Enlarged bounding box around imported vector images (InDesign/Illustrator CC 2014)

    Hi all, I've searched the forum for an answer but can't seem to find one. Hopefully someone can help.
    Ever since my upgrade to CC2014, whenever I import a vector image from Illustrator into InDesign, the image comes in with an expanded bounding box. Unlike in the old days (i.e., the moment before I upgraded), when the bounding box would exactly enclose my image with no extra white space on any of the sides.
    Sometimes the bounding box is small and sometimes it's gigantic. I cannot determine any rhyme or reason why it varies. Sometimes it's wider on the sides than on the top/bottom. Other times it's gigantic on one side but not the others. Basically, it's all over the place with no consistency that I can determine.
    I find it incredibly visually distracting to have these weird-sized bounding boxes around my art, and it sucks to have to constantly resize them on every imported image.
    I promise there are no guides, stray points, etc. in the Illustrator files. There is absolutely nothing "invisible yet there" that would create these expanded bounding boxes.
    Two samples are below.
    Note on this first one that the bounding box is wider at the right than the left.
    On this second sample, note that the bounding box is gigantic in general, but especially at the top, and it's smaller on the sides/bottom. Huh?
    Any ideas? I desperately want this to stop. Just want a bounding box that exactly encloses my artwork after I import it.
    Thank you for your ideas or suggestions,
    Laurie

    Hi Bob, thanks very much for this info. I figured there was a checkbox hidden somewhere...
    I tried all of the cropping options and although it seems like this would be a fix, it's unfortunately not fully resolving the issue.
    The option that gets me closest is "crop to art." However, as you can see from the sample below, there's still a pretty large gap at the bottom, as well as a small one at the left side. (The top and right actually are cropped to the art, as requested.)
    Do you have any other suggestions of things I can try? Or does anyone else have any ideas?
    Thanks again,
    Laurie

  • What  is the preferred file format for vector images for use in Microsoft SharePoint so that they do

    I have been having a hard time figuring out how to export vector images and then have them show up in Sharepoint looking as good as they do prior to being imported to SP. I have tried EMF files, PNG's, jpgs.
    original file above -
    how it looks in sharepoint
    Thank you -

    Sharepoint automatically saves two preview images in jpg format on the server durin upload. The quality of those preview/thumbnail  images cannot be influenced, and as you can tell, is quite bad.
    This behaviour can be turned off in the code of the page(s) by setting the ThumbnailsEnabled property to false.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sharepoint.spdocumentlibrary.thumbnailse nabled.aspx
    The original is not touched in any way, though - it is still available for use.
    When browsing from a picture library if you click on the thumbnail, then the resize option, it will show your original png.
    SharePoint automatically creates two JPG images every time you upload image to a Picture Library: they are thumbnail image and web preview image. They're stored along with the original image in the Picture library.
    No in-place conversion happens: the image is converted only once during the initial upload process.
    SharePoint needs these extra images to display picture library thumbnail views and item forms correctly, quickly and not causing excessive server load.
    You can retrieve your original image at any time, it has permanent server path and could be accessed directly for whatever you need.

  • Resize A Image Without Losing Quality

    I have been reading about how to best resize image in PS CS4/CS5.  I've read that you should increase the size of a image in increments and I’ve also read that you should resize using the bicubic smoother setting in PS.
    The image that I would like to resize is 5W x 7H and resolution of 150. I would like to print this image at 30W x 40H on a HP Designjet 5500ps.
    Any recommendation on how I should go about resizing the image without losing quality?

    No matter which method you used, scaling up a photo 5 times is going to look very good.
    There are some software that purports to scale up an image without blurry edges. Not sure how well they work.
    If you can obtain the original image and rescan it at a higher resolution that would work better.
    Or, if the photo can be easily recreated as a vector drawing, then do that with illustrator and print it out large.
    Or if you or someone you know is a great artist, then scale up the photo in photoshop (which would become blurry), then hand correct the edges to make them sharp. This requires drawing ability.

  • Resizing/scaling images

    Hi All,
              I am integrating Google Maps using BSP..  I have custom icons being displayed on the map as markers. I have a requirement where in this marker has to be scalable. Scaling/resizing images is possible using Vector Images using Walter Zorn Java scripts http://www.walterzorn.com/dragdrop/dragdrop_e.htm . But its getting complex as I have dynamic images and numerous images to be placed.. Can this be done in my scenario?
    Is there any other option for scaling / resizing images dynamically?

    Hi,
    the simpliest is to use a javascript framework like jquery plus a crooesponding plugin like imagefit.
    Check out google via 'jquery scale images'.
    Best regards, Stefan

  • .swf with Vector images playing slllooowww

    Good Morning Fellow Developers,
    haha - okay so down to business
    Flash CS4
    published with AS2.0
    Flash Player 10
    The movie is 15FPS, and lasts about 16 seconds total.
    With about 40 Vector images that are constantly, coming into the screen and leaving the screen - and when they're doing that they're also fading in and fading out, and resizing.  so a lot is happening on the screen... then after the 15 images or so are done swirling around, they all come in for the grand finale and this is really where it bogs down... All of them, as I said are vector images published as .swfs from Illustrator (if I tried .ai files or anything else it was tons worse).  The movie just completely bogs down, and goes very very slowly - I'm assuming this has to do with the computer trying to draw all the vector images as they are resizing, fading, and moving - etc...
    The reason my client wants vector images is because of the clarity - Is there anyway to retain the clarity of these resizing images, but reducing the load on the client side so it doesn't slow down??  Any help would be great!
    - Also - while I'm here - I should probably look elsewhere, but anyone know of a quick way to expand my movie say from 16 seconds to 24 seconds? Keeping all the same animations but just slowing it down slightly so it's not so fast without redoing everything?
    K thanks

    Does anyone else have any possible insight into this??
    I guess the other question would be then, if I didn't want to make every image a vector one, what are the proper steps needed to make the images as clear and as crisp as possible??
    Again I have Illustrator CS4, Photoshop CS4, and Flash CS4.
    Thank you!

  • Saving Vector Images

    Please forgive me if this is answered somewhere. My searching skills are lacking, or I can't find quite what I'm looking for. I have two questions:
    I'm using the pen tool to draw a vector image (just an outline drawing, no fill) that will be saved as a pdf. The intent is for it to be a printable file for use as a (sewing) pattern. Part of the reason I'm using a vector image is so that the file can be made bigger or smaller to suit the user's needs. So, regarding saving the file and printing it, do I save it as a pdf just with the vector paths and achieve this? Or do I need to stroke the path before saving to the pdf? Or will stroking the path create a drawing without the vector-type (resizing) capabilities?
    Also, I don't really want the file to be editable, since I don't someone else reworking and "stealing" my pattern, but is there a way in pdfs to manipulate the image without using an editing program like Illustrator? If, for example, the user wanted to move part of an image to another place on the page?
    I'm a total newbie, so I appreciate your help!

To be certain, you will have to use a raster format, but that is not scalable.

  • Vector images on Adobe Muse

    Hi everybody, you can help me for import vector images on Adobe Muse? I'm interesting for a map of Europe that is clickable on a single country. I have used png format but the action of click is always square and not shaped.   Thanks a lot to all

  • Using Javascript & Actions to resize an image and add the filename as text

    Hello,
    I am currently working on a way to take an image, resize it and add exactly what is in it's file name (before extension) as a text layer. I have succeded in this BUT am having issues with file names that require more than one line of text.
    I need the text to align to the bottom of the image & the script or action must then resize the image so that the text does not overlap.
    Any ideas on how this can be done?
    At the moment I am using:
    -"Fit Image.jsx" to resize my image to a specific size (This was included in the Photoshop CS5 scripts)
    - A script to add the file name without extension and place the file name at a specific position.
    AdFileName.jsx
    if ( documents.length > 0 )
    var originalRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits;
    preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
    try
      var docRef = activeDocument;
      // Now create a text layer at the front
      var myLayerRef = docRef.artLayers.add();
      myLayerRef.kind = LayerKind.TEXT;
      myLayerRef.name = "Filename";
      var myTextRef = myLayerRef.textItem;
      // strip the extension off
      var fileNameNoExtension = docRef.name;
      fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.split( "." );
      if ( fileNameNoExtension.length > 1 ) {
       fileNameNoExtension.length--;
      fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.join(".");
      myTextRef.contents = fileNameNoExtension;
      // off set the text to be in the middle
      myTextRef.position = new Array( docRef.width / 2, docRef.height / 2 );
      myTextRef.size = 12;
            myTextRef.font="Arial-BoldMT"
            //set position of text
            myTextRef.justification = Justification.CENTER;
            myTextRef.kind = TextType.PARAGRAPHTEXT;
            myTextRef.width= docRef.width;
            myTextRef.height= docRef.height/ 2;
            myTextRef.position= [0, docRef.height * 0.88];
    catch( e )
      // An error occurred. Restore ruler units, then propagate the error back
      // to the user
      preferences.rulerUnits = originalRulerUnits;
      throw e;
    // Everything went Ok. Restore ruler units
    preferences.rulerUnits = originalRulerUnits;
    else
    alert( "You must have a document open to add the filename!" );
    Can the position be changed to allow more rows of text but keep it aligned with the bottom of the layer?
    How can I script in a way to make the image resize based on the amount of text lines?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You can add a text layer any where the only thing you need to worry about is the size of the font you use.  You can normally calculate a font size by saving the images resoltuion and then setting its resolution to 72 DPI calculate a font size basied of the images pixel width and the number of characters you want in a line. After adding the text layer you can restore the image to its original resolution and align the text layer by making a selection and alignint the text layer to the selection.  There are nine posibilites like the positions in the selection you can align to like a tick tack toe board. You need to use a script to add the text layer because your retrieving the filename.  The positioning of the text layer could be done easily in an action the would use the scriot to add a text layer the do a select all  the align the added text layer to the selection.
    About your script don't make text paragraph just add new line characters to make a multi line text layer So it can be positioned easily
    I do just that with my stampexif action.  The action uses my stampexif Photoshop java script to add a multi line text layer containing some formatted EXIF data then the action centers the text layer and add a layer style to it. Link http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/StampExif.jsx Example

  • Photoshop CC: Have a template that I moved image into.  Image is too small.  How do I resize the image while in the template?  Or must I go to original image file and resize there again and again until I get the right fit?

    I have a template that I am able to plug different pictures into at different times.  The problem is that when I plug an image into that template, I find that the image is either too big or too small.  Is there a way to plug the image into the template and resize the image (and not the template itself) OR will I have to go to the file with the original image and resize it there and then try to plug it in to the template to see if it fits------and if it does not fit, go back to the original file with the image and resize it again and see if that fits---and so on and so on...........?  I have tried the" image size" option but it's hit or miss------mostly miss!
    Thanks!

    Read up on Smart Objects. It looks like you have no idea as to how to create and use them.
    Jut create a Smart Object from the layer containing whatever it image it is that you are "plugging into your template".  But you do need to learn the application at its most basic levels.
    Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.  You cannot learn Photoshop in a forum, one question at a time.
    Or is it possible that you don't even have Photoshop proper but the stripped-down Photoshop Elements?"
    If the latter is the case, you're in the wrong forum.  This is not the Elements forum.
    Here's the link to the forum you would want if you're working in Elements.:
    https://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements/content
    If you do have Photoshop proper, please provide the exact version number of that application and of your OS.

  • How do I create a cut-path ONLY on the outer edge of my vector image?

    Okay, I have a dilemma. This could be one of those things that is so simple when explained, but at this moment in time it has me scratching my head.
    Here I have a vector image. The pink stroke is a cut path that the software I use at work recognises and cuts. (Used for vinyl decals/stickers etc). All the lines highlighted in pink is useless to me, as it would cut out each individual line.
    All I need is the outer edge of the entire graphic.
    Note my crudely drawn red lines that border the image, that is exactly what I need. As you can see, the paths run through the image. BUT...When I try to erase the paths using add anchor point then cut path at selected anchor points so I can remove that particular segment, the colour essentially "leaks" as it isn't a closed area anymore. Rasterizing the image destroys the quality and I would like to be able to perform this task without loss of quality.
    If anybody could help, I'd be eternally grateful!
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Ben,
    As far as I can see there are three sets of pink strokes, and I guess you wish to use the outermost one and have it form one continuous path round everything and in the hole between the letters.
    Presuming you have the other strokes under control, you may be able to copy everything to the top of the stacking order and then, with all the copies selected, Pathfinder>Unite to get that compound path with pink stroke and no fill, which you may then split into one path for the outside and one path for the hole if needed.
