Resizing workspace?

Hello. I made a file with the artboard at 11x8.5", and at some point the surrounding area got really big. The art board is still the original size I made it at.
My question is, how do I get it back to the way it should be, without all the surrounding space? I have a lot of layers so I'd rather not have to copy and paste everything into a new file. Here's a screenshot of how the file is:
In another file I accidentaly did the same thing while I was working, but was able to undo it so I think I must of pressed some shortcut by mistake…

To explain my issue a little further, I took these two schreenshots, at 100% size:
The first one is the file I'm having trouble with, and the other is another file. Both were made in the exact same way at the exact same page size with a rectable the size of the artboard for the background.
The image I'm having problem with used to be exactly the same as shown in the second image, but at some point all that extra space was added. Also, if I copy the rectangle from the second file into the first, they're both the exact same size.
Checking the size of my artboard on the first file with either the artboard tool or artboard window shows my artboard is still the same size I originally made it as- the size of the rectangle.
I'm not understanding why or how all that space was added, but maybe (hopefully) it's a simple fix…

  • How to resize workspace

    As I have a 27" iMac, I'd like to be able to increase the size of all the tools, fonts and icons in the workspace.

    joakden, May i know which product are you trying to access here? Could you specify the name and version of the Adobe application along with the operating system details.

  • So I just learned about needing more drives....

    I thought I was well off. Turns out after time on this forum, I am a newbie again..... ah, what a feeling.
    I have one hard drive. It's a 1TB and called HITACHI HDT721010SLA360 ... whatever the heck that means.  Anyway... what kind of hard drives can or should I buy? Should I get the same ones? I hear you should have the same ones all across.  If so, what sizes? I am editing a movie I made for fun and it is about 30 min long and editing is slow. It is fast to edit when i have only like 5 min of timeline footage. But now the project is up to like 20 min and everything runs slow....
    So any suggestions guys? What is compatible with my PC and should be upgraded? I know I need more hard drives. I have also just purchased a second monitor so I can have one to view my video and one to edit the timeline. I hope this was a wise choice... it only seems logical and I have used it just now and it seems easier to edit without having to resize workspaces constantly.
    And if I need a new computer all together, let me know... I would rather not, however. If I must, I would consider some company who specializes in video editing builds, which I've read on this forum there is one called ADK who makes these systems.
    YOU ALL ROCK! This is a great community and hobby to be apart of... although for some it's their job(and I wish to mine in the future as well)

    So I got my 24 gig of ram and 2 extra drives. Everything is installed and registered in Windows 7 64bit.
    An important note to add to anyone considering an upgrade, seeing that I had some troubles with all of it:
    First, Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate(64 bit editions, of course) is the only ones capable of running any more than 16gb of ram. I had to pay an extra $90 to upgrade my Win 7. That is stupid, Microsoft!
    Second, everything was recognizd except for one hard drive. I had many theories such as, my mobo only supports 3 sata devices at once, my psu can't output enough power, or bios has some settings I need to enable. Turns out, after HOURS of taking this cable from this place and trying it in this place and all this garb, I found that one of the manufacturers SATA cables were bad! hardly noticable, but when i peeled back some of the covering on the wires, I see the wires are not fitly joint.
    Third, a big computer case would be HIGHLY reccomended. In my case(no pun intended), the drives barely made the fit! Had heck of a time doing that. Especially with all the wires crammed everywhere.
    So anyhow, I'm here transferring my media(video/audio files of my projects and other recordings I often re-use) to my second drive as Harm reccomended in his general hard disk guide. The only thing I am confused about, harm, is that you say to do Exports to a third drive. Are you referring to when I literally export my project? This would only make exporting faster and not the actual workflow, correct?
    Let me know if you can. And as you know, I will probably have a few more other questions after this about the setup while going through Premiere. For now I'm just transferring media(125 gigs).
    Thanks!

  • BPM Workspace - Persistent column resizing & locking down Priority field

    Hello All,
    BPM version 11.1.1.7
    1) In the BPM workspace, a user can resize the visible columns in the tasks list in the Inbox views or other views. However, as soon as the user navigates out and returns to the view , the layout gets resset. All the column resizing is lost. This happens within the same session. Is this expected behaviour? Is there any way to alter this?
    Usually in ADF applications, hooking the application to MDS and enabling user customizations persists the column resizing across sessions. I am wondering why (if) this hasn't been done for the workspace.
    2) The priority field is editable by any user. Is there a way to lock this down based on roles? i.e. only certain roles may edit the priority.
    TIA,

  • PS CS4 how to resize my workspace for a smaller monitor

    I've been forced to downsize to a smaller monitor for my Mac Mini. Is there a way to resize the workspace in PS CS4? I can't access the sliders at the bottom and the right side because they are in a space which bleeds completely off the screen.

    There are two approaches I know of, one is almost effortless... if the file is for a web site, just keep the file as is and in the web page set the dimensions to those desired.
    The alternative can involve significant effort depending on your design complexity... you need to resize the stage and all the content as needed (possibly piece-by-piece and relocate things.
    I do not know if the newest releases of Flash provide for a quicker solution to this problem.

  • Cannot resize some workspace panels. CS3

    My
    COLOR,
    PARAGRAPH,
    EFFECTS,
    TABLE
    STROKE
    and possibly other panels no longer have the resize handle in the lower right corner. They are free floating and are not docked grouped or attached. They now have about 1 inch of wasted gray space to the right. I can't stand these huge menus taking up screen real estate.
    I cannot get the panels to resize no matter if they are grouped or docked together.
    What can I do to get these panels smaller?

  • CS4 Window resizing in the workspace?

    Is there a way to set preferences so that when you maximize a window, it will stay in the workspace and not truly maximize and remove all the tools and layers windows?
    I've seen this questioned asked and I have not found an answer both in forums and in my trying to fix it.  Sorry to pose it again, but its getting rather annoying - working on a big editing job and have to manually dock a window each time I need to copy and paste layers from one project to another.
    I appreciate your help if anyone knows how to do this or if its possible to do.

    beldave wrote:
    Sorry about the non-specifics.  When I open a new document, it makes the image its own workspace - within the PS workspace, i.e. you can see the File, Edit, etc, tools on the left and the layers window on the right.  When you click the maximize button on the image workspace window it makes it full screen - which then only shows the image and the minimize/maximize/close buttons and none of the tools, layersw window, file/edit/etc.  I'm asking if there is a way to maximize image windows that you open in PS, without having them go full screen - just maximized in the PS workspace.
    I have always used Ctrl+0 to get the picture as large as possible (and Ctrl+Alt+0 to get 100% for checking).
    (Afternote: You can also use the View menu or the Arrange Documents drop-down if you are not a keyboard man.)
    I couldn't understand the problem until I tried what you do.
    Never use the maximise button!

  • How to resize image in PSE 7?

    I've imported large file image sizes to PSE7 (3.7MB) and need to resize entire photo to smaller resolution for email and posting on web. Can someone assist me in doing so in PSE7? thanks

  • Anyone know how to resize a window in an application that has "grown" beyond the edges of the screen?

    Suddenly in Illustrator, the workspace window is too big: it extends under the application menu bar so I can't access the top and move it, close it, or minimize it. The sides and bottom extend so far out to the edges of the screen that I can't access the resizing corner. Help!

    Thanks, Mort, I tried that, but it didn't work...maybe because I was already in the highest resolution?
    I saw advice to someone whose itunes window was too large. They suggested applescript code:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
      set bounds of window 1 to {296, 97, 1394, 996}
    end tell
    I replaced iTunes with illustrator, but got an error message:
    Adobe Illustrator got an error: Can’t set window 1 to {296, 97, 1394, 996}.
    thanks!

  • Resize only one object in selection, and other questions. InDesign CC

    I recently changed from InDesign CS4 to CC. I'm having a few problems with the interface and can't figure them out.
    1) This one is really annoying me: I select multiple items, like a picture and some text, to move them somewhere. I then want to maybe change the size of the text box, or crop the picture a little. What used to happen in CS4 was exactly what I wanted to happen: whichever item I clicked on to edit would be edited. In CC, it resizes everything selected! If I want to resize ALL the items, I'll group them. Is there an option to turn that off? I've looked through every menu I could find but didn't see anything that would refer to that.
    2) In the same vein: When I select a couple items, like a text box on top of a burst or an ellipse or something, and I then want to edit some of the text. In CS4 I could double click and it would turn into the type tool and I could edit text. It still works the same in CC, but only if I have just the text box selected. If there's anything else selected, it just doesn't work.
    3) I complained about this one when I changed from CS2 to CS4, but it's still a problem: When I print, and put in a particular page range, it prints those pages. Now, when I go back to print again, it has defaulted back to printing all pages. I'd really like to be able to hit CTRL-P then Enter, instead of using the mouse to select my page range again. Is there some option that I can change somewhere for that? It works fine in Print Booklet, and Export to PDF. It's only when I print normally this happens.
    4) Every time I open the program, all my windows (Pages, Swatches, Stroke, etc...) are always minimized. It's annoying to have to open them every time. I couldn't find anywhere to change that either.
    These are kind of minor inconveniences I guess, but it would be nice if I could change them. Other than these few things CC has been pretty good. I definitely like that it's 64 bit. I got out of memory errors a lot with CS4. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to read my questions!

    I have InDesign CS5.5 - and when I select more than 1 object I get a bounding box for all the items - it's impossible to resize just one item without affecting everything selected.

    I really don't see this behaviour at all.

    No - this is the way it works - annoying!
    What's really frustrating is that it will remember the amount of copies you've input too! I would like that reset to 1 after I print 100 copies. All too often I've opened a file from last year to print a copy and hit Ctrl+P and then Return as the shortcuts - and I get 100 copies printed again!!!
    4) Every time I open the program, all my windows (Pages, Swatches, Stroke, etc...) are always minimized. It's annoying to have to open them every time. I couldn't find anywhere to change that either.
    Once you have the screen setup the way you like it go to Window>Workspaces and click "New Workspace"
    Save as it something unique to you.
    Everytime you open InDesign this should be the default panel settings.

    They are minor for sure - and we all have niggly bits in InDesign that frustrate us.
    But unfortunately this is a user-to-user forum so it's unlikely to be picked up by Adobe employees.
    I suggest you put it in the feature request forums - http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_feature_requests
    There's the Adobe Feature Request page - https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    That's about as much as you can do.

  • Why can't I click on video to move/resize it anymore?

    I'm new to Pr, and am currently testing it out on the trial period of CS6.
    I've already made one sequence where I loaded in 4 videos, then simply clicked on them in the workspace to move/resize them into each corner of the screen. It was dead simple, like moving/resizing images on Word or PowerPoint.
    Now onto my second sequence, I again loaded in 4 videos, but it wouldn't respond in the same way when I clicked on the video in the workspace (white frame with dots in corners/edges with scope in centre), so I can't move or resize it.
    I tried with just one video and still no response.
    WHY HAS IT STOPPED WORKING, I ONLY NEED THIS RELATIVELY SIMPLE FEATURE TO WORK?
    IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO REPOSITION/RESIZE THE VIDEOS APART FROM USING THE MOUSE CLICK METHOD?
    Please help :'(

    Thank you! I found out about the effects controls panel and managed to do it.
    Still strange how initially it would work when I just clicked it in the workspace player, now I have to do like you say with the effects control panel everytime :S
    Thanks again!

  • Fluxbox browser window resize

    When I go to a site that opens an image in a new window, then resizes that window to fit the image, fluxbox is resizing the window so the title bar is outside of the workspace.  This means I can not close, move, maximize or minimize the window without first holding down the Alt key and dragging it down some.
    Anyone know how to keep Fluxbox from resizing a window outside of the actual workspace?
    If it matters, this behaviour is not happening in Gnome.

    dp wrote:
    this is not a fluxbox problem, but a bad webmaster :-)
    i would suggest you to use a browser that can override javascript from resizing windows larger than the screen (i use konqueror and all new windows open in new tags and are not allowed to resize the master window)
    EDIT: ion does not allow windows to be bigger than the screen
    Well this problem does not happen with Mozilla in either GNOME or KDE, but does happen with Mozilla in Fluxbox.  This would suggest to me that Fluxbox is handling the popup differently than other window managers.
    I looked at the HTML and it seems to me that the webmaster is simply telling the browser to open a new window and passing along a size with no window placement information.  Mozilla is then opening up the window with the titlebar off the screen.  I would say it is Mozilla's problem except Fluxbox is the only window manager I have that is exhibiting the problem.
    Here is an extremely simple page that exhibits this problem:
    http://www.sitepoint.com/examples/jscri … picfit.htm
    The window is first opened correctly in the top left corner.  The the Javascript resizes the window and the titlebar goes off the top.  Again, this does not happen in GNOME or KDE, so my original questions remains.  Is it possible to get Fluxbox to behave like GNOME and KDE and not run a portion of the window off the page?

  • [GIVEN UP]xmonad: How to prevent the resizing of floating clients?

    Hi guys,
    I was playing with xmonad. I am working on a laptop and at work I have a pretty large external display. My laptop screen is 1280x800 and my external screen is 1920x1200.
    On workspace 8 I put my floating clients, skype, sonata ecc. I also use launchy to start new programs.
    So what's the problem? When I put my workspace 8 on the big screen the clients display well and I don't have problems. But when I put workspace 8 on laptop screen all my floating clients are resized.
    That's pretty annoying. It's worse with launchy. If I start launchy on big screen no problems. If I start it on laptop screen it is resized. What's strange is that if I start it again it is resized again. It keeps resizing the damn resized window. So after a while I have just a little small square on the screen.
    Does someone know how to fix this thing? Is it possible to configure xmonad and make floating applications re-sizable only by me regardless the screen?
    Last edited by ArchArael (2009-04-03 19:14:30)

    The problem is not having floating windows. I have that. The problem is that the floating windows are resized when I switch workspaces on smaller screen.
    If I start launchy on smaller screen I see it resized. Then if I press esc and start it again is even smaller. After I have started launchy a bunch of times on the smaller screen it is resized so much that I cannot see it any more. That's really annoying.
    I would like to have fixed size for floating windows, regardless screen size. The floating windows should be re-sizable only by me...when I wish it. The window manager shouldn't manage the floating windows size. Is this possibile?
    Thank you for the suggestion. I tried with the xmonad.hs on the page you provided but the problem still persists. Maybe you don't notice this strange xmonad's behavior because your screens have similar resolutions.
    My laptop is 1280x800 and my external screen is 1920x1200. Well, switching workspaces on laptop screen resizes floating windows. I would like to prevent this. Lurking on web didn't provided any useful information so far. That's why I'm bothering my lovely arch community.

  • How to dynamically resize taskflow popup set as inlineDocument.

    I've been trying to figure out how to dynamically set the WindowHeight and WindowWidth of a taskflow deployed as a inlineDocument popup. Sadly, neither the forums nor google came to the rescue so I had to actually figure this one out on my own. But at least now is my opportunity to work up some forum karma! :)
    Sample workspace containing the solution is here: http://www.williverstravels.com/JDev/Forums/Threads/2337969/MaxPopupSize.zip
    General Strategy for Solution:
    - Pull the browser height and width using Javascript
            function browserSize(evt)
              var button = evt.getSource();
              var agent = AdfAgent.AGENT;
              var windowWidth = agent.getWindowWidth();
              var windowHeight = agent.getWindowHeight();
              AdfCustomEvent.queue(button, "customEvent",
                width: windowWidth,
                height: windowHeight
              true);
              evt.cancel();
            }- Using a clientListener and serverListener, pull this information into a managed bean and set height / width in button's setWindowWidth(), setWindowHeight() attribute.
      public void onButtonClick(ClientEvent clientEvent)
        Double dw = (Double)clientEvent.getParameters().get("width")-100;
        Double dh = (Double)clientEvent.getParameters().get("height")-100;
        this.popupButton.setWindowWidth(dw.intValue());
        this.popupButton.setWindowHeight(dh.intValue());
        ActionEvent aE = new ActionEvent(this.getPopupButton());
        aE.queue();
      }- Due to JSF Lifecycle complications, the managed bean will need to call a different button than the one which holds the client and server listener. It will be the second button (popupButton in the code above) which then calls the popup.
    Props to Frank for the client / server listener tutorial: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/56-handle-doubleclick-in-table-170924.pdf
    Props to Martin Deh for the javascript insights: http://martindeh.blogspot.com/2011/03/dynamic-resizing-for-popup-dialogs.html
    Hope this helps someone down the road.

    Thanks LovettWB ...
    Your question helped me a lot...  I am able to pass these two parameters width/height to my bean and am able to set it to pop-up :)

  • [xmonad] uniquely addressing each ppVisible workspace

    Hi everyone.
    I'm having some troubles getting a certain piece of my xmonad configuration working. My Haskell skills are not up to par just yet; therefore reading documentation does not necessarily translate to the capability of solving the problem at hand.
    I want to be able to set up exactly what the OP from this thread way back in 2010 wanted - to have different colours indicating the physical location of each visible workspace on a three monitor set-up.
    At the moment, my xmonad.hs file as the following lines:
    ppCurrent = dzenColor fg_red background . pad
    , ppVisible = dzenColor fg_blue background . pad
    which obviously highlight my active workspace red and two visible (but inactive) workspaces blue. I'd prefer if I could set each visible workspace a different colour (say one green, one blue) to indicate what physical monitor each resides on, so I don't end up addressing the wrong one when not paying attention.
    The solution in the above thread doesn't solve the issue, but instead uses getSortByXineramaRule to force the current and visible workspaces to the left, such that a configuration like this could occur [4 1 8] 2 3 5 6 7 9. I don't particularly like this solution because I prefer to name my workspaces (mail web shell etc.), and swapping them in this fashion will render associations to the mod+1..9 sequence difficult.
    I've therefore dug a little deeper into the issue, but as I said, my understanding of Haskell is lacking.
    The DynamicLog hook is where ppVisible resides, the docs say its constuctor needs to know a Workspaceid:
    ppVisible :: WorkspaceId -> String
    To me this says ppVisible is called more than once on a three monitor system, which means I should be able to throw different colours at each call. Am I right about this assumption?
    From the docs, StackSet "Xinerama in X11 lets us view multiple virtual workspaces simultaneously ... [therefore tracking] which virtual workspaces are associated (viewed) on which physical screens [is required, and StackSet] keeps separate lists of visible but non-focused workspaces." Which tells me xmonad keeps track of this location information and I should be able to address it in a round about way even if it's not through ppVisible?
    Have any of you managed to set this up before? Or if you have better Haskell/xmonad experience than I; can you see a way I can colour each visible workspace separately?

    Hi everyone...
    I have some problems with - I think - conky. (My window manager is xmonad. The conky output is piped to dzen2. xmonad 0.7.1, dzen svn, conky svn (conky 1 repo))
    I'll try to explain my problem with screenshots with conky running stand alone...
    Everything works fine as long as I see the conky desktop output: screenshot 1
    When I move my terminal above the conky desktop output, or when I just use one or more tiled (not floated) terminal(/other windows, e.g. firefox), conky doesn't update anymore: screenshot 2
    Now, when I change to another desktop on which you can see the conky desktop output again (or when I resize a floated window), conky updates again (look at the seconds)... screenshot 3
    EDIT: #conky (freenode): "i guess your window manager prevents conky from accessing the root window, so it locks up somewhere"
    Here are my config files:
    ~/.xinitrc
    ~/.conkytoprc
    ~/.conkybottomrc
    I hope anyone can help me... I hope that dzen-conky-statusbar will soon print me updated times and songtitles. =(
