Resolution? Font size? X300

I have just switched from a T42 to the X300 and am dismayed at the small print on the screen. The screens are the same width - 11.25 inches, but the X300 is only 7 inches tall vs.8.5 ins. for the T42. I feel like I need to buy a magnifier for the screen because everything is so small. I have gone to control panel....display....and increased the font size to ex-large, but this doesn't change the font size on internet sites.  The IE does allow you to change the screen size to 125%, 150% etc., but it has to be done manually every time you sign on.
Anyone know how I can get bigger print?   Thanks, Jill

I have Vista on this one, but I looked at one of my XP machines:
Right click somewhere on your desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced.  It should be on one of the tabs there.

  • Resolutions, font sizes all wacky in new Windows7 computer

Hey - I just built a new computer with WIndows7 and an Nvidea GTS250 video card. When I opened up Canon DPP I noticed my thumbnails all looked smaller (than on my old computer) even though they were set to Large. Then I opened an image up in PS CS5 and resized it. At 72 DPI and 15" tall it appeared about half as big as I thought it should it be. Also, the tool bars and all the other fonts just appear small.
I went to the Windows 7 display setup and checked the resolution. It is set to 1920x1200 Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor (my old system was at 1280x768 - same monitor). I played with bringing the resolution size down and that helped a little, but not that much - then again I didn;t bring it all the way down to 1280x768). Then there is a "make text larger" option (or something like that). I clicked on medium, and then large. It made my desktop icons way big, but didn't seem to change the size of the text within the PS application.
Seems to me that if I size an image at 11x15, then when I zoom at 100% it should be 11x15. What am I missing?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

The above exactly explains why you are seeing things looking smaller in your new system.  Because of the change in your output pixel count the pixels are smaller, and thus the things that are a fixed number of pixels in size (e.g., the thumbnails in the DPP software) will appear smaller.
To reinforce what J Maloney has said, you definitely DO want to run your display at the native LCD resolution of the monitor (every LCD has one).  You will get a FAR sharper display at this size, since the pixels generated by the video card will exactly match the pixel sites on the monitor, rather than having to be resampled and mapped to multiple pixels.
With Windows 7, if things are looking too small to you in general, and you can't get used to the size change, you might then want to consider using the Windows Display settings (right click on desktop, choose Personalize, then Display) to have most applications generate larger fonts and menus.  Unfortunately this doesn't affect ALL apps - most notably Photoshop, and some people feel that Photoshop's "standard" size is too small.

  • Mavericks After Upgrading to 10.9.2 the font size in the address/seach bar has changed to be small.

After upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2 the text in the address/seach bar on Safari is a lot smaller.  This is not a screen resolution issue. The fonts in Finder are larger than they were before anoying fix for this would also be nice. It is also not a screen resolution issue.
I really do not know what Apple are doing with quality control with Mavericks.   The 3 month GMAIL problems have not been fixed with this upgrade and you also have a lot of font size changes accross you whole machine, within mail, finder and safari.
    Any help appreciated.

Mavericks reminds me of all the old problems I had with Windows before I moved to Mac. Prior to Mavericks upgrades would not change screen resolutions, Font sizes etc.   The GMAIL issue has not been fixed.
It is inconceivable to me that you could release this product which does not support basic mail functionality for one of the largest email services on the internet ie. GMAIL and then take 3-4 months and still not fixed with the 10.9.2 upgrade. What are you guys doing. The loss of productivity for people is beyond comprehension.
Can we please get a fix for GMAIL in Mavericks that actually works.

    Dear WD Registered Customer,
    UPDATE: November 1st, 2013
As a valued WD customer we want to make you aware of new reports of Western Digital and other external HDD products experiencing data loss when updating to Apple's OS X Mavericks (10.9). WD is urgently investigating these reports and the possible connection to the WD Drive Manager, WD Raid Manager and WD SmartWare software applications. Until the issue is understood and the cause identified, WD strongly urges our customers to uninstall these software applications before updating to OS X Mavericks (10.9), or delay upgrading. If you have already upgraded to Mavericks, WD recommends that you remove these applications and restart your computer. If you have already upgraded to Mavericks and are experiencing difficulty in accessing your external hard drive, please do not save anything to the drive, disconnect the drive from your computer, and contact Western Digital Customer Service at http://support.wd.com/country/ for further assistance.
The WD Drive Manager, WD Raid Manager, and WD SmartWare software applications are not new and have been available from WD for many years. However, solely as a precaution WD has removed these applications from our website as we investigate this issue.
    Sincerely,

  • How do I increase the font size in my email and maintain resolution.

Hi folks. Mr Newbie is seeking some help, I hope it is relatively straight forward, thanks
How do I increase the font size in my standard email and document views without losing resolution.  Right now my font size in email, headers and text is less than that on my iPhone, it rather defeats the point of having a 27" screen if most of it is blank and I have to sit with my nose to the screen to read email.  Thanks for your help, once you have stopped laughing.  C

Two things you can do to easily aid with readability in Mail are as follows:
    1) Increase the size of folders in the sidebar:
    a) select "system preferences" from the Apple menu
    b) select "general settings"
    c) select small, medium or large under "sidebar icon size"
    2) Increase the text in the main body of the email (both sent and received):
    a) select "preferences" from the Mail menu
    b) select "fonts and colors"
    c) adjust font size for "message list font" and "message font".  I have noticed this works properly while in classic mode, but in regular mode the message list font doesn't appear to change size.
Select classic mode by accessing Mail preferences and selecting the "viewing" tab.
Another shortcut is to right click on the toolbar, then select "customize toolbar", and then drag the "smaller / bigger" buttons onto the toolbar.  Now you can decrease and increase font size as desired on the fly.

  • How to get reasonable font size with higher screen resolution

I'm using my new Mac Mini as living room PC with 42" plasma screen and tv itself seems to support quite well the 'better' resolutions like 1024x768. Unfortunately then text is too small to read from sofa (which is about 3 meters away from tv). I have switched back to 800x600 resolution where font sizes are almost ok but many programs complaint about the resolution (e.g. Google Earth) and need to change the resolution back and worth to get some OK button pressed which is glumsy.
I have also found pretty good Tinkertool to finetune font sizes but it does not affect all font sizes like I want. So question is there any better solution how I could find theme that suites better for living room purpose (have not find any theme possibilities for MacOSX). In Linux I could finetune X fontserver, in WIndows I could fine tune the theme used to have bigger fonts, how do I do it in this cool mac?

I hear you! I would also like to see an answer for this. I am running Leopard on a Mac Mini on my 50 inch display in the living room. I have set the resolution to 1080p so that the video and photos are as sharp as possible. (man the videos look great)...
But, I have a very hard time reading the menu bar, as well as safari and mail from this machine. I realize that there are ways to increase the font sizes, but:
    1) when I restart safari, I have to change the settings each time
    2) when I restart mail, I have have to change the setting each time
    3) I cannot figure out a way to make the menu bar larger
I really don't want to bring the mac mini down to a resolution like 800X600 - I think it would look horrible on the large screen.
What is a big screen lover to do?
Any help would be most appreciated...
    Cheers!

  • Monitor resolution & increasing font size

I am a pc user swithcing to mac...
I have an external non-apple monitor whose native resolution is 1400 x 900, so I have set the mac to that resolution.
    1) does the mac have a "native" resoltuion, or is any option offered "native"?
    2) More importantly...higher resolution monitors make things smaller, too small for my eyes. In Windows (desktop, properties, settings, advanced, DPI setting), you could set the DPI font size to 125%, which increased all fonts for all programs by that amount. I don't find a similar setting in mac. Is there a way to universally increase the font size?
    Thanks

You must mean Photoshop Elements 11, not Photoshop.
There is no ability to change the size of the menu font in PSE 11.

    Hello,
You can't really change it overall, but you for some Apps, like Safari>Preferences>Appearance, Mail>Preferences>Fonts & Colors.

  • Edit bookmarks font size

Safari 7 had the right size font for the edit bookmarks page, but Safari 8 uses several sizes larger font which throws the list of folder off the bottom of the page and moving individual links is tedious as you have to hold it to the top or bottom if the folder is off the display. I would like to reset it to the size used with Safari 7. Is there a setting for it or a way to resize the font when I open the page?

Unfortunately, the font size cannot be modified in Safari but there are some alternatives.
    1.  Try a different display resolution. Open System Preferences > Displays > Display > Scaled
    2.  Try Zoom in System Preferences > Accessibility

  • Report viewer is not printing the exact font size format if the application is run through virtual machine or RDP.

    Hi good day!,
I'm still having this problem with the font size format of my report, although I already installed this hotfix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2768741/en-us, if I run the application using RDP or virtual machine. Anyway, I'm using VS2010 with sql server
2012 express through windows 7. Actually, I tried to search for a new and updated hotfix version but having no luck,:) since i'm not good at it (google search).:)
So, I need help on how to fix this problem.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Hardz

    Hi JJorheim,
Thanks for the link that you had given. Actually, Previewing the report on an RDP or VM environment is not a problem at all because it yields smooth result based on the report design. The problem only exist if print button icon of the report viewer is pressed
which results to a magnified font size printout. I think it is a rendering problem a somewhat default behavior of a report viewer print method. So one of the remedy is to adjust the resolution of an RDP or VM to 1024x768
(4:3 ratio) as suggested by the others, which momentarily solve this problem but not necessarily the other way around.
Anyway, thanks again for the reply.

  • How can I increase the font size (Macbook)?

I just bought the MacAir 13.3" migrating from a Tosh 13.3" - I researched the font size issue online and called Apple Support. Funny, you must supply them with the serial number to log the call, but I couldn't read it. There doesn't seem to be a satisfactory answer. I can probably get by with the browser by CTL/opt+, but email is a drag and changing the screen resolution just makes it blurry. I do music recording and so I need to have better control of font sizes in particular, as provided by Windows. If there's not a good solution, preferably supported by Apple, then there is a Samsung 15" Series 9 that weighs 3.6lbs with my name on it at half the price.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I went through those options with Apple support to no avail. The apple display system seems to be locked into whatever screen it is formatted for. At lower resoultions the screen becomes blurry which is even worse. No problems, I'm packing it up as we speak (typing this on the old windows laptop) and it's going back. • Is there a real way to increase the system font size yet?

I got a new Mac Pro (2013 model) to use with my Dell U2711 monitor which has a native screen resolution of 2560x1440.  After spending some significant time fighting with cables (HDMI and DVI will not allow for full native resolution due to a Dell issue, only Display Port works), I finally got my screen working at the full native resolution.  Since I am going from a previous resolution of 1920x1080, as you can imagine, the text is pretty small.
    I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1.
I searched the forums for a way to increase the default font size and found a ton of posts, but most posts were older or got the response "Change your screen resolution" which translates to "Drop your resolution to a non-native and clearly inferior mode" or buy some special computer reading glasses.  These are not real solutions for me.  I do professional photo editing so being able to have a high screen resolution is important.  With a great OS I would think there would have to be a way to increase the font size.  (Surely if Windows can do it, so can Mac OS).  I know I can do it for some individual applications like iTunes, Safari, Chrome, etc.  But I can't find a way to increase it for apps that don't have a font size option or for default mac applications like the action bar.  Is this an issue that just keeps being ignored or is there a solution yet?
With 4K displays already on the market and 8K ones being shown off at CES, if we can't control the default font size, are the next set of solutions going to be "Go buy a really big magnifying glass"?  If the current answer is still that I'm SOL, could we please get some feedback to the product group that this is a real issue and it's only going to get worse with higher res monitors coming.  I don't think many people will be happy dropping their 4K displays to 1080 resolution or lower just so they can read the text.

Download and run the free application TinkerTool (not "TinkerTool System"), select the Fonts tab, and change the font sizes.

  • Is there a way to change the font size in the Creative Cloud user interfaces?

It would appear that there is no way to change the unbelievably small font size in the panels, menus, etc for InDesign and Illustrator. If I'm mistaken, someone... please enlighten me.
I'm a professional designer with 20/20 vision, working on an iMac 27... I shouldn't have to strain my eyes all day using Adobe programs I pay $50/mo to use. Shame on Adobe.
My system set up is perfect for every other use and program - so don't bother recommending changing my screen resolution as a work around for Adobe's poor design.
Are there any Adobe ambassadors out there who know when this will become an option? I'm guessing I'll see the standard answers that "it's on the list" or that they're famously "working on it". This should have been addressed long ago.
