Resolution is horrible on new ATV3

So I picked up the new ATV3 on Friday and have it all hooked up to my Denon AVR2311 receiver using HDMI.  Everything seems to be working but all of the content looks horrible when I view it on my 55" TV.  I tried iTunes content and previews of 1080P movies and they are very poor quality.  Not even close to 1080P.  I've read the discussions about the ATV3 not playing nice with receivers and switchers so as a test, I ran the ATV3 directly to the TV and the result is the same.  Surprisingly the menu content looks amazing but the videos are very poor.  I tried a smaller TV in the bedroom  (22") and it made a slight improvement.  Any suggestions before I take this unit back to Apple?  My resolution is set to Auto.  This is the first Apple product that I am truly disappointed in.  Thanks in advance.

"I have connected ATV 3 per HDMI to my Receiver ( pioneer sc-lx82)" - "But no luck! It Quits with an error, that my tv doesn' Support the resolution."
It's not technically plugged into the tv is it?
I'm not for sure why a lot of folks are connecting their ATV through their reciever, but remember that your receiver is not a TV and you stand a strong chance of getting an error. I'm sure your tv has more than one hdmi port, so why not use it directly?
I had a friend trying to hook everything up via cables through his reciever driving himself mad over a optic cable... I said to him, to what end? I explained in simple terms that all he needed was one optical cable and thats it. Plug it to the tv leading to > reciever. Anything that plays audio through the tv will go to the reciever via the optic cable. Same goes for pluging that ATV via HDMI to the tv... It will play the audio thru Optic cable leading to reciever, you are good to go. It's that easy.
Last bit of advice... It's a really bad idea using leads from a reciever to a tv. Always remember the good way is a lead from the tv to the reciever and nothing else.

  • New ATV3 Won't Display 1080i

Need help.  I own all three models of Apple TV.  I connect them via the same HDMI cable to my 1080i HD television.  The ATV1 outputs a 1080i signal.  The ATV2 only outputs 720p which, of course, was it's big limitation.  So, today I bought a new ATV3 expecting to see my long awaited 1080i output signal.
Not only does it not display 1080i, it doesn't even show 1080i on the list of options for screen resolution.  I know it's not a TV issue because I've tested several 1080i devices on the same HDMI cable and input slot.  So, what's left?  I'm stumped.  Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
p.s.  Just to verify that there was no issue with this HDMI cable, input slot, or the TV itself, I just plugged my Cox Cable HD output directly into the Apple TV's HDMI slot using the ATV's HDMI cable.  Perfect 1080i.

Mystery solved.  I've found out from other Internet searches that all of the above responses were 100% technically correct.  Apple's support for 1080 HD is exclusively limited to the "p" (Progressive-scan format) and does not include support for the "i" (Interlaced format).  That was the answer that I was looking for.
I made the mistake of assuming that the ATV3 supported all 1080 HD formats.  My error.  I should have done my homework on the new Apple TV before I dashed out and bought one.  Another case of buyer beware.

  • Brand New ATV3 - No HDMI video signal.

Brand New (2013) ATV3 - No HDMI video signal when plugging it in to my TV (Toshiba 52" LED).
Ive tried 3 different HDMI cables in 3 different HDMI inputs in various configurations. Still no video.
Ive tried power cycling ATV and my TV, and changing resolutions using the Apple remote - Still nothing.
Ive seen serveral forums offering many but unhelpful options.
Yes, my TV is set to the same HDMI input as the HDMI cable is plugged into.
    Please help?

You tried difference HDMI cables, different HDMI ports, cycled the ATV, confirmed optical audio output works. Do you have another HDTV to plug in and test? If ATV video fails to appear in this case, I would say that this would confirm the Apple TV HDMI output is broken given the extensive troubleshooting you have already performed. In my opinion, this would completely isolate the diagnosis as ATV malfunction. Did you purchase it via Apple or Third party? Apple will replace the device within 14 days no questions asked, or service it within one year. If third party, contact them regarding your coverage.
How long is my Apple TV covered by Apple’s warranty?
Apple's Limited Warranty for Apple TV covers your Apple TV for one year. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase ("date of purchase").

  • How do I put high resolution pictures on my new iPad?

So I picked up a new iPad and I love it but when I try to put high resolution photos (2048x2048) for the wallpaper on it it resizes them to 1024 for example... This happens via email and when I download them from a website.
HOw do I get high resolution photos on my iPad to take advantage of the awesome screen?

Sync photos from your computer. If the new iPad is like the iPad 2 the photos will be sized to display at the screens resolution. Thus they should look stunning on your new iPad.

  • OSX RDP v8.0.24308 Default Resolution/No Fullscreen for new connections

I would like to set defaults so that any new connection I create always are set to No Fullscreen, a specific Resolution, and a specif Color-Depth.  I should not have to change this for all new connections.

    Hi,
As far as I know, it does not have the Global Setting, we have to configure the settings separately for every connections.
Thanks for your understanding and I will forward your concern to the product team.

  • My new ATV3 is haunted!

    Seriously!
I was demonstrating it to some friends yesterday (OK, showing it off!) and while we were still on the main menu page, some really spooky sounds started coming out of the speaker system! They disappeared when I played some music, but when I went back to the menu, they were there again.
My kids and their kids were all mucking about on iPods and there was an iPad or two in use too.
Is it possible that AirPlay was sending signals down to the ATV from those devices?
Another thing... I put the old ATV1 on another TV and was surprised to see that I'd "bought" a TV episode and rented Puss In Boots... in French! I have absolutely no recollection of doing so, but don't discount the possibility that another family member did it by accident.
However, although the rental showed up on ATV1, I can't for the life of me see where it is in the new menu of ATV2... any ideas?
    Cheers.

Thanks both..... where will rented movies show up on the ATV3?
Winston, I don't think my kids were playing tricks.... the sounds were coming out of all 5 speakers and the sub, were quite loud, very "spooky" sounding and heard by 4 adults! I wish I could describe them well.....  BTW, Winston, you helped me out before with advice on HD.... I went out ang got an HD camera, and now ATV3 will play home movies as 1080 too, I'm chuffed to bits! Thanks for the earlier advice.
Just got to get the atv3 exorcised now :-)

  • Older illustrator files are 72 resolution when opened in new version

    Hi,
My high resolution illustrator work wants to save as 72 pixels per inch in IllustratorCS5, is there a setting somewhere to only go to 72 if I want a save for web gif?
Also, I have a hard time getting from sign in to the forum. Is there a more reasonable route than through the confusing jargon of the corporate marketing page?
    Thanks,

  • Menu Motion Resolution IS HORRIBLE since updating to DVDSP4

Until yesterday I was using FCP 4.5 HD and DVDSP3 together seamlessly. All video files are exported from FCP as DVNTSC, imported, rendered and and placed into the menu just as I have done a thousand time before. In DVDSP3 everything looked perfect on the final complied print, both the menu screen and video looked great.
Today, using FCP Studio (with all current updates) and DVDSP4, I import the DVNTSC video, recompress everything, place my menu and video and the video looks great, but the Motion Menu (only 5:19:00 long) displays pixelated and HORRIBLE. If I place the same video track from the background of the menu into a video Track, the supplied video looks perfect! WHY?
Why, in the latest version of this program, are the motion menus rendering so poorly that they don't even compair to DVDSP3? My clients will never accept this as a finished product.
I need answers fast, please help!!!

    Hi,
I was having the exact same problem and I MAY have found the solution!
This is what worked for me after multiple re-encodes and blah blah blah. The video I created for the moving/motion menu was exactly 50 seconds and 5 frames long, however I have the length of the menu, (for some odd reason), only at 49 seconds and 25 frames. Once I changed this to the correct time in the menu's inspector window, (under the General Tab next to "duration"), the video suddenly looked as crisp as it should be and burned that way as well!!
I have been searching on several forums and didn't find anything and just so happened to stumble upon this today! If anyone wants to replicate the issue we were having simply try to set a video as the background image and have the duration set to less than the length of the video...at least I hope this would reproduce the problem.
This begs the question, why would DVD SP 4 do this in the first place?

That can happen if you zoom Yahoo mail websites.<br />

  • Video/Sound delay with AppleTV on higher resolutions

I have a new Sony 55" RP SXRD HD TV (1080p max res), and just hooked up my AppleTV today. After syncing it with most of my video library and some of my music library, I tested the video appearance. My initial setting was 1080i, and I experienced major video/sound synchronization delays (similar to older DVD players where you'd hear what the person was saying 5-8 seconds before they said it on screen). This drove me nuts, so I switched down to 720p res, and while the movies played okay, the TV Shows and the Music Videos left much to be desired, and still had the same synchronization problems. To remove these issues, I finally changed the res down to 420p, but now, when I watch pretty much anything (photos, album art, TV Shows, Music Videos, and Movies), the resolution is horrible, and pixelates on my TV.
I'm trying to pinpoint this to find out if it's the TV, the connection (HDMI), or the AppleTV. Can anyone offer some advice on what to look for, what might cause this issue, and how I could fix it? Thanks so much in advance!
    AppleTV   Windows XP
      Windows XP

Sounds to me like it's a problem with upscaler. Does the Apple TV upscale? If it does, then it's the upscaler in the Apple TV and is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a firmware update. But it's weird that if it's a consistent problem with the Apple TV upscaler that these forums aren't just soaked in complaints about it. Could be only a problem with really large, say 46" or greater TVs -- that might explain the low number of complaints.
If the Apple TV doesn't upscale, then it's the upscaler in your HDTV. Prior to about six months ago, when all HDTVs got good upscaler chipsets, some HDTVs, especially the older, larger models, had absolute trash upscaler chipsets -- even the expensive quality brand models got some bad upscalers. All kinds of problems from all input sources, but not always with every device. How old is your HDTV?
For your sake, I hope it's an Apple TV upscaler problem with larger dimensioned HDTVs, as that Apple can fix for free with a firmware update. Next best choice is your terrible upscaler chipset in your HDTV supports firmware upgrades via USB or network cable and there is a firmware update out that fixes your HDTV's upscaler problems. Because the final, worst alternative, if there is no update for your HDTV available, or your model doesn't support firmware updates, it's the really bad option: drop another couple grand or more for a new HDTV of the same large dimensions.

  • Resolution problems - rendering?

I'm using iMovie to cut a project. The titling and photos and I think videos are coming out really poor in terms of resolution. In the Preview when I choose which style of title, the resolution is crisp. Then I drag it in to the time line, it plays back really poorly (therefor don't think it's screen resolution).
I firewired an iMovie project from a coworker that has a new MacBook directly on to my computer. It was fine on his, then on mine, again, the resolution was horrible.
I'm not sure if a rendering setting is set to something because my last couple computers have all had poor resolution when it comes to iMovie projects. Can anyone give advice?
I just bought this computer MacBook Pro last week.

Since apparently my pictures seem to have disappeared:
    zoom_400.jpeg:
    zoom_600.jpeg:
So I assume it is an Acrobat problem then. Still strange though that is also appeared in the RIP (does Acrobat use the same PDF library or engine as the APPE to render PDF's)?
    Thanks for the feedback BTW!

  • Screen resolution problem - HP computer and LED Cinema Display

I just purchased an HP Envy Phoenix H9-1330 with Windows 8, and I connected it to my 27" Mac LED Cinema Display, but the resolution is horrible. The highest option in the screen resolution menu is 1280 x 720, and I'm getting the error message "Your resolution is lower than 1024 x 768. Some items might not fit and apps might not open". How do I fix this? What kind of issue is this (Windows 8? Graphics card? HP can't support my monitor? etc...)?
I just bought another brand new computer, but not an HP, with Windows 8 and I have no problems with the resolution - it looks absolutely beautiful. I want to use my monitor with my HP desktop though.
    Thanks for any help

    Still haven't figured it out....
BUT I did notice that, on the back of the computer, there are 2 additional DVI connections that are covered with a black cover and screwed in (and they say 'please do not remove'.... I'm asuming it's because they aren't connected to anything? Or maybe they aren't connected to the graphics card?). Is it possible that just my DVI connection is wrong, and I'll need to connect to one of these covered-up DVI inputs instead? But why are they covered up? Do I need to take it in so they can be connected to the graphics card?? Help! I don't want to return this computer, but I will have to if I can't get the resolution fixed.
