Resolution of MacBook iSight Camera?

Was wondering if anyone has found out what the resolution is of the new MacBook iSight. I know that the Air has one that is inferior to the other ones, but can't find any info. on the one in the new MacBook.

I don't know much about i movie, but when I save a QT video, the aspect ratio for DV looks good, but when I export or even try to edit a capture from the isight, it is squashed and truncated.
Am I missing something simple here?
I don't use FCP, but, if I understand what you are trying to do, perhaps you are missing
the iMovie > Share > Export Final Cut XML... menu command?
Although identified as an FCE rather than FCP tutorial, this might help, too:

  • Real resolution of our iSight cameras

Hi, this may surprise you. Our iSight cameras are much more powerful than 640x480 pixels
Yet there are too many models (or not really too many, just i don't have too much money to buy them all and test). So i would like someone (may be a Mac technician) to clarify this for us.
What are the resolutions of the MacBook and MacBook Pro iSight cameras respectively?
They all can only take 640x480px photos by the native software. But the videos are having higher resolution. Mentioned in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISight#Built-in_iSight) that the MacBook Pros sensor has a capability of 1280x1024px. Is it true for all 13", 15" and 17" models? And also is it true for all generations of MacBook Pro? Does ordinary MacBook also have 1280x1024px sensors?
    Open for testing and discussions

in my experience to digital cameras, most digital pictures won't look perfect if we view them in original dimensions. Of course those top cameras are exception. The images look much better if we shrink it to a smaller size. Blur will not be easily seen. i guess this may be the reason for this design.
Yet if we can take 1280x1024 pixel pictures with our Macs, it must be fun
    1280x1024 means 1.3 mega pixels!

  • Macbook iSight camera.

I am looking to buy a macbook laptop for xmas 07.I was wondering though..How well do the built in iSight webcams work?.. apparently they are great, what do you all think? and also .. Does the built in camera work with MSN on the mac? Thanks for your help and time

They are very nice. Much better than USB cams that are out there. However MSN for Mac doesn't support video but there's an alternative. You might have a look at Mercury Messenger which is a Java based MSN client that supports video.

  • ISight Resolution on Macbook Pro

I have a Unibody Macbook Pro from last summer (2.8ghz, 500gb HD, 4gb RAM). The iSight camera records in a 4:3 aspect ratio when I use it in Camtasia for Mac - is there any way to get it to record in 16:9, or does the built in camera have a native 4:3 resolution?
If not, maybe I'll need to start a thread about upgrades (just try not to tell me that the 27" Cinema Display would do exactly what I what I'm looking for with its built in iSight camera!).

No. It will record only 4:3. The only way to change that ratio is to edit it after recording.

    Yes.

I don't use Camtasia for Mac, but after I have saved a recorded clip from my iSight using iMovie or QuickTime, I can crop the recorded clip to 16:9 in iMovie or resize the video to my desired aspect ration using QuickTime Pro. I would think that Camtasia for Mac would offer capabilities at least as flexible as those.

i bought a macbook from a guy and when i started it up... surprise it wont turn on if its not connected because the battery is not being detected.... then what i checked first was photobooth surprise the isight camera is not working... i searched in internet about smc but i do not understand it.... is there a way to recover it using the cd?

Try resetting the PMU - Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC). If you have no success then you'll need to take it in for service or replace the AC adaptor if it's gone bad.

  • MacBook White Built-in iSight Camera stuck on after 10.7.3 upgrade but not producing video

I upgraded today the OS of my iMac and MacBook from Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. The iMac is fine but the MacBook is always having the iSight camera on (light is constantly green.) But no video is produced in Skype, FaceTime, and iChat. I rebooted several times with no results. The green light is always on. Any advise to solve this issue is greatly appreciated.

I updated three Macs to 10.7.3 with no trouble.  I credit ALWAYS using the Combo Update for my reliable updates:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
If you have trouble later, try applying the Combo version.  Even if you are already using the same version, the Combo may fix your problem.
Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions before updating and again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

If you mean you are looking for some simple setting for sharing your built-in iSight, the question has been asked before. However, you are correct that it is not a common one. Neither does it have a simple answer.
There is so such preference. You can verify this for yourself by checking
your Macs'  > System Preferences... > Sharing.
However, there are other, more complex techniques you may want to consider.
Today i had my macbook pro in target disk mode transferring data from my Powermac G5 to my macbook pro my friend from oz sent me a text asking me to connect to skype he wanted to talk to me
Question is is here any way i can use the isight cam from my macbook pro on the G5 i did try a few ways but no success
I can suggest two apps that call let you see the view from your MBP's isight cam on your G5's display:
    (1) iChat: http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/ichat.html
You can use a local network Bonjour connection between your Macs: http://www.apple.com/support/bonjour/
Your 10.6.4 MBP is iChat video-ready. If your local network and G5 also meet the iChat requirements for Tiger or Leopard:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1771 - or -
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2020
you could video chat between your MBP and your G5.
To video with other AIM client users outside your local network, your system and internet connection need to meet those requirements and you need a separate iChat account name for each of your connected Macs. Then, for example, you could have a three-way video with an iChat/AIM friend where two of the three video connections would come from your two Macs.
I do not use Skype, but, as I understand it, Skype does not yet offer more than one-to-one video. If my understanding is correct, Skype could not be substituted for iChat in this use.
    (2) *_Apple Remote Desktop_*: http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/
Provided your G5 meets ARD System Requirements, you could install ARD on your G5, enable remote management in your MPB's System > Sharing preferences, and use your G5's ARD to control any iSight applications running on your MBP.
Has anyone tried this & achieved it if so how did you do it
    (a) I often use the iChat method when testing multi-party video connection capabilities with other users. The "how" is exactly as described in (1) above. For more details on how to operate iChat after you have verified your system requirements, open the iChat link (the link is repeated below for clarity:)
      http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/ichat.html
Page down to the "iChat Basics window there and click the "Watch now" link there.
For more iChat tips, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2515
    (b) I do not own ARD, so I have not personally tested the method described in (2) above.
    (c) Using Leopard and Snow Leopard Screen Sharing via your Bonjour connection might also allow certain limited possibilities, provided that your G5 is running Leopard.
    (d) Depending on how willing you are to try third-party alternatives, you might be able to do what you want with a compatible VNC client app such as http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
I have never tested this possibility on my system.
    Thanx

    Welcome to Discussions, radarina
The restart was a the best first step.
Next, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
We will watch for your status update.
