Resolution of Samsung T220 monitor with Mac Mini (or any Mac)

I'm looking at a Samsung T220 or T220HD paired with a Mac Mini, or more probably new Mac Mini to be announced in Jan, 2009. The maximum resolution for the T220 is 1680 x 1050. The Samsung manual states that the T220 usually supports all Macs, but to check the "Preset Timing Modes" to ensure Mac is supporte for this model.
When checking the T220 user manual, the "Preset Timing Modes" section indicates only the following resolutions when connecting to a Mac:
MAC, 640 x 480
MAC, 832 x 624
MAC, 1152 x 870
Does this mean Mac owners can never get the maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution out of this and similar Samsung monitors, only 1152 x 870? If so, what's the point of investing in a good quality monitor that gives Macs only mediocre resolutions?
Any Mac owners getting 1680 x 1050 out of their Samsung T220 or T220HD?

Hi there
I just got a new Mac Mini and a 32 inch Samsung LCD 450 series. I am not sure of max resolution but I know it's a 720p set. I have been impressed with the plug and play set up via a VGA cable. But, I can not seem to figure out how to get the max resolution set up either.
The Mac display preferences only give me choices for standard monitor sizes that are not proportional to the Samsung screen, I have tired both 800 x 600 and the 1024 x 768 I have mixed and matched this with changing the picture proportions on the TV (16:9 vs 4:3). Things either seem stretched or overly square.
Am I missing something here, Is there somewhere else I should be looking for settings to tweak?
Any help or steering toward other resources would be most welcome.
Thanks, Josh

  • How do I find firmware upgrades for a 1.66 Mac mini, or any mac

We have a Mac Mini 1.66 processor. I have updated all of the software, but notice that there are no firmware updates. How do you find applicable firmware updates? I looked at my son's Macbook Pro and see that there is a Mac Mini firmware update listed and when you click on it, it says that it is not applicable to that machine. He used the migration utility to move from the Mac Mini to the Macbook Pro. My guess is that the Mac Mini is marked somewhere as having the firmware upgrade even though we did a complete install from scratch of the OS after he moved to his Macbook Pro. The re-install took the Macbook back to Tiger and then up to Leopard. I would like to get everything up to date before upgrading to Snow Leopard. As an aside, I would assume I can delete the file if it is allowed on the MacBook Pro that references the firmware for the Mac Mini since it says it is not applicable.

If no firmware updates appears via Software Update, then it's probable that there are none applicable to your model of Mac. The most recent firmware update, probably the one your son is seeing, applies only to the 2009 Mac mini. You can, if you wish, look up a list of all updates released for any model of Mac mini here:

  • W530 running Windows 7: can't use optimal resolution on Samsung S27A850DS monitor

    Hello,
I use a Lenovo W530 laptop with the NVIDIA Quadro K1000M video
card running Windows 7. Recently, I got a Samsung S27A850DS monitor
with an optimal resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the best
resolution for this monitor on my system is listed as 1920 x 1080.
Can someone explain this to me? The NVIDIA Quadro K1000M specs
    (e.g. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-K1000M.76894.0.html)
assert that resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 are supported. So where
is the problem? Is it a W530 limitation, or a Windows 7 limitation?

How do you have the monitor connected?

I contact Viewera support to ask if they had any information on whether this LCD is compatible with a first generation Mac Mini 1.42GHz computer. They said they only had information on users of Windows PC.
I really like this LCD but I don't want to go through the hassle of purchasing it only to have to ship it back.

  • The volume keys on my Logitech K760 wireless keyboard do not work with my 2.3 GHz, Intel Core i5 Mac mini which runs Mac OS X 10.7.4. Anyone know how to correct this without having to re-code firmware?

My first post to the Apple Support Community so it looks like all I wanted to know is covered in the title. The research I have done led me to solutions that I am not comfortable trying for fear of irreparably damaging my keyboard and/or Mac mini. Does anyone have a simpler solution? Please? Hellooooo?
Just in case the title is too long to show, I have re-pasted here:

bpruse,  I may be completely off-track for your issue, but I had a similar situation where I wanted to downgrade a Mac Pro from Server to plain OS X and it would not boot from the OS X install disk.
I was attempting to use a full-install OS X.6.x disc with an earlier SL version than that which originally came installed on the Mac Pro.  After two or three hours of fiddling, I figured it out and used the discs that came with the system.
However, I don't know how that would work in your case if this is the mini server-version.  I'm sure the disks would only have Server on them.  Worse-case scenario, find out which X.6.x the OEM disc is installing and get an OS X disc with a new installer.

    Help

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • Will Mac mini 2.3Ghz i7 resolution fit on a monitor with 16:10(22inch) or 16:9(27inch)?

I am starting to use a Mac mini for the first time and needing to buy a monitor for it. I am thinking of a 22inch or a 27 inch. Third party monitors though. Can't afford apple Cinema Display (27"). Will a 16:10 or a 16:9 fit for Mac mini's display? I have a friend who has a Mac mini sitting at home unused as the display is extending outside of the screen. His monitor is possibly a 16:10. Do you have any idea?

Also note, some displays at that resolution require dual-link display adapter.   Thunderbolt has such adapters, but it would be ashame to lose access to your thunderbolt port unless absolutely necessary.

*This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).
Hubs exist for Thunderbolt, but they are expensive.

  • Dual Samsung 2343bwx Monitors with Mac Mini

I am looking to purchase the new Mac Mini Server for my lab, but have a question. I currently have dual Samsung 2343bwx monitors attached to a Windows 2008 server (please no snickers, I am replacing it with a Mac!) using UltraMon to span the desktop across both monitors. My question is can the Mini support both monitors at 2048 x 1152, and give me the same functionality I have now?
If it does support it can you tell me what connectors your are using?

Should work ok. The 2048x1152 16:9 aspect ratio on the 2343BWX is only slightly more pixels than 1920x1200.
    See this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9855163&#9855163
And spanning shouldn't be a problem, either.

  • Samsung 2494LW monitor with mini?

has anyone used this monitor with the new 2010 mac mini? i ask due to the calibration option it has not working with snow. can it be adjusted without the "magictune"?
LCD / TFT : Where Can I Get MagicTune?
Note: Magic Tune is currently only available for the following operating systems:
    Microsoft :
    Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista (32/64 bit) and Windows 7 (32/64 bit).
    Apple:
Mac OS X 10:2.6 to 10.5.7, at this time there is no support for Leopard.
Magictune is a software equivalent of the on screen display menu, if Magic tune does not work on your system you have the following options. You can use the built-in OSD menu of the monitor, or you may be able to adjust the settings using the advanced settings of your video card. Please contact your pc or video card manufacturer for assistance.

Which iMac and which Mac Mini...?
Only the late 27" iMac's support input for use as a display with another system that has MiniDisplay Port output.
You might be able to use > ScreenRecycler, however I'm not sure how your going to set it up without a display for the Mac Mini.

  • See my Mac Mini on another Mac's desktop with firewire

Hello, Does anyone know how to connect a Mac Mini and an Imac G5 so I can see my Mac Mini on his desktop and run the applications from my machine on his? I am hoping to work at my father-in-law's on an upcoming trip and not bring a monitor with me.
I found some info in Help about sharing files but that sounded like I would only be able to work with the files in my Shared folder. I want my Mac Mini to show up just like another hard drive on his desktop.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Connect the Mini with the power off, but then you'd need to connect a keyboard to it. When you start up the mini, hold the "T" key. After it starts up, it should show up as a hard drive so you can disconnect the keyboard afterwards.
