Can Anyone Help?
Carlos Lima

Hello Thomas,
Do you mean that the resolution in remote desktop is too high?
Please check your configuration as this article:

  • How to increase the max resolution of the screen under KDE?

Now, the max resolution I can set is 1280*768, how can I get a larger one? such as 1920*1080.(my screen is big enough)
My arch is installed on a VMware virtual machine, the Win7 install on it can change the resolution   as I wish.
I install the arch linux and KDE according to the beginners' guide on the wiki, please tell me if I need to provide more information.
    Thank you all : )

You probably need some VMWare guest additions and drivers. Currently, it looks like your system is using the VESA/MESA framebuffer or something.

  • RDP connection to remote host displays smaller resolution than the screen resolution

Having a problem with a surface with 8.1 installed.  When connecting via Remote Desktop Connection to a remote host, the display is smaller than the display settings set for the desktop on the surface.  If I change the Display settings for the
Surface, the display in the RDP session is still smaller.
I've tried changing the resolution settings for the connections under the display section of Remote Desktop Connection, but all that does is change the session to a window instead of full screen and does nothing to change the actual display size of the remote
    session.
I believe this may be a function of DPI Scaling, but changing settings on the local surface display does nothing to change the behavior in the remote session.

    Hi,
Sorry for my dilatory reply. Actually acctually to your descriptioin, I doubt whether this problem caused by Surface itself problem. It would be better to contact Surface Forum for further

  • Picture resolution for the screen background help

I'm trying to set one of my pictures as a backround for 17" mbp but it doesn't fit right at all.. I can't figure out what am I to do, I'm new to macs... can someone help me out here? thanks.

You can use Photoshop or GraphicConverter to crop the image, cut some off the top and bottom, so that the aspect ratio matches your screen. Or, you can add space to the picture horizontally and fill it with something that matches the picture nicely.

  • URGENT: How to fix an application with the screen resolution?

    HI everyone,
I am desprate and need help.. I have developed an application with Java swing and awt (JFrames, JPanels and...). This application displays perfectly with 1280 x 1024 screen resolution but in a situation where the screen does not support this resolution, a part of my application will not appear. I can not even scroll down to see the reste of the components. Does any one has any idea that how I can resolve this problem! I mean how either I can make my JFrame or panel to scroll down or to change the size of the components according to the resolution!
Thank you very much and wait for a reply :)

One of the possible reason of the problem is you must have hardcoded the size of panels and other container that is just right for the screen resolution 1280 x 1024.
The solution is set the size of the containers that depends on the resolution of the screen.
You have not explained much detail about the scrolling problem. But I suppose that you have a scrollpane in you GUI and you want to scroll the component inside it even at another resolution.
    try using this
if p is the panel that is added in the scrollpane then set its prefered size.
    p.setPreferredSize(resolution dependant size).

  • How can I set the screen resolution ?

    hello brothers.
my program works ultimately at 1024/768 screen resolution.
since I want to make sure that peaple who using that program will see it correct, I want to explicitly change the resolution of the screen.
how can I do that? please..

I believe you use the setDisplayMode() method of the GraphicsDevice object to do this.
If you go to http://www.scottshaver2000.com/ and download the source code to H.E.A.T., you will find a nice example of video mode switching. His game pops up a window showing the available configurations, then lets you select the one you want and switch to it.
The applicable classes are in his com.sas.gui package: FullScreenJFrame.java and VideoModeSelector.java.

  • Panning the screen of your 12" monitor

Panning is the ability to set your desktop bigger than your actually monitor.
(e.g. PB 12" is 1024x768, but you set the desktop to say, 1680x1050).
You can only see 1024 at a time, but with the mouse, you slide the view to different parts of the 1680 desktop.
Prior to buying an Apple, I owned at small VIAO with a 1024x480 screen (very small). It supported panning though, so I could work on a desktop which was 1024x768 even though the screen would only view 1024x480 at a time. I was a reasonable compromise.
I'm pretty sure you could implement this in software on the PB12, but I think it might be too slow. It's probably something you'd have to teach the video driver to do (don't know if there's programmable firmware). The memory in the video hardware of the PB is certainly capable of handling a much bigger desktop (monitor size).
So this post is one of two things:
    1. A question -- does anyone know of a way to get panning capability on PB12?
    2. A suggestion to Apple -- Support panning on your laptops (especially the small ones). I travel every day, so the bigger laptops just don't work for me. However, the 12" screen is very limiting as far as productivity goes. Panning might make a difference. (hint, hint... I'd be inclined to buy $$ the x86 Apple laptop if it was small and supported panning.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Have you tried Universal Access as part of the system
preferences? If you turn on zoom, and change the
options to say maybe 2, the image is effectively
zoomed in closer around the area of your mouse
pointer, allowing the panning feature you mentioned.
This doesn't increase the available workspace however, and in-fact decreases the visible resolution of the screen - counter to what is being requested.
If I had two images that were 1000 pixels wide on a 1024x768 screen (the PowerBook), I wouldn't be able to put them side-by-side. If the PowerBook supported spanning to say 2048, then I could put them side-by-side (however not view them both at the same time). Imagine it like having an A3 drawing but viewing it through an A4 hole.

  • 1 dead pixel on the screen

I seem to have a dead or stuck pixel on the screen. How do I know if its dead, or if its stuck? Do dead pixels look different from stuck pixels?
Im not to bothered about it as I can hardly see it and I struggle to see it, but it is slightly annoying that you know its there. It looks turquoise colour, but when I put some black over it on the screen, you cant see it.
Also, I have downloaded the stuck pixel fixer and run it for about 20 minutes, and it doesnt seemed to have done anything.
Does anyone suggest what to do? Also, does apple have a pixel policy? Like I said im not to bothered by it, but when you know its there it can get a bit annoying. I have to really look for it to see it though.

Yes thats what I was thinking. Like I said im not to bothered about it and I can hardly see it, but might give them a call and see what they say. Its not acually to bad. I have dead pixels on other things before and they have been much worse. It must be because of the resolution of the screen or something.
I have to say, the one thing I hate the most and is the most annoying thing out of all technology for me is a dead pixel, esspecially when its right in the middle of the screen. This one is just at the top where the program menu bar is, so its not to obvious. Infact, its probably the best place it could have happend really, if it were to happen at all.

  • Mac Mini and LCD TV, changed resolution and now cannot use the screen anymo

    hello,
I have a Mac Mini and and LCD TV which is connected via HDMI cable. I was playing around with the resolution settings (not very smart in hindsight) and managed to select a resolution that my TV does not support. I do not have another monitor or Macbook. Is there anything I can do to reset the resolution settings? I tried to reset the PRAM, but that didnt seem to solve the problem. I also tried starting in Safe mode but that didnt do the trick either.
    Appreciate your help!

Arie, it may be possible to get to System Preferences via the keyboard. But you have to be sure the Finder is the foreground application. Is your Mac set to boot straight into your account or does it pause waiting for a password? If it boots straight into a user account, you can try the following procedure:
\- Restart the Mac (It should be hooked up to the misbehaving display in case that's not clear)
\- When it is done booting, type Cmd-Tab and then Cmd-Q. Do this several times. (Cmd-tab will step the Mac through all the programs that might be running. Cmd-Q quits them. Doing this several times ensures that only the Finder is running since the Finder can't be quit. This is important for the next step)
\- Type Shift-Cmd-a (This should open the Applications folder)
\- Type "sys" quickly (System Preferences within the Applications folder should now be highlighted)
\- Type Cmd-o (This should open System Preferences)
\- Type out the word "screen settings" completely (This should cause Displays to be highlighted in the System Preferences main panel)
\- Hit the Return key (This should open Display Preferences)
\- Hit the Return key again (This will clear any alert box that may have popped up)
\- Hit the Tab key once (This will shift the keyboard focus to the resolutions list)
\- Now start using the up (or down) arrow on the keyboard one press at a time. Each press of the arrow key moves to the next resolution in the list. Wait at least five seconds between arrow key presses for the resolution change to take effect. Hopefully, at some point, the monitor will light up with a stable image and you are back in business.

  • I just bought a Samsung S22B310B computer monitor and hooked up to my Mac Mini. I have my mac set to the 1920X1080 resolution but the entire screen (21.5") is not filled. It looks like non HD channels do on an HD TV. Used regular hook up not DVI.

Just bought Samsung S22B310B computer monitor and hooked it up to my mac mini. I have my mac set to the 1920X1080 resolution but the entire screen (21.5") is not filled. How do fill the screen? it fills the screen on other resolution settings. I have it hooked up regularly and not to the DVI hook up. I'm not a computer savvy person please help!

That monitor supports both (digital) DVI and (analog) VGA connections, so you should not need a converter or use a different adapter.
You should use the Apple Supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter and a (digital) DVI cable to the monitor.

  • Screen recording - recording part of the screen or low resolution

I want to record part of the screen in quick time x, has anybody found a way to do this?
As a work-around, I tried reducing the screen resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 but the recorder doesn't seem to pick anything up at this resolution. After recording nothing happens then when i switch back to full resolution i get the message:
*Recording failed because no data was received.*
Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing.

I am just trying to figure out how to record a screen shot, i dont care if its full or part screen, any advice for me?
Not sure if there is any difference between OS 10.6.1 and 10.6.2, but all I did was select the "New Screen Recording" File menu option and press the record button (circle with red dot in center) to make a test recording which was automatically saved in the Movies folder when the "stop recoding" key shortcut sequence was pressed. As to SnapzProX, it is a commercial program which you can purchase. It allows fullscreen/partial screen recordings and can be set up to record a fixed area of the screen or a fixed size portion of the screen area which follows the cursor around the screen.
