Resolution Question Before buying IMAC 27Inch

Dear Community,
Tomorrow i am planning to buy a new Imac 27 Inch at a store here in Ireland.
http://www.harveynorman.ie/computing/apple/imac/apple-imac-27-3.4ghz.html
But i notice with the specs provided on the website that the 27Inch Imac has a max resolution of 1920x1080 ?
Is this correct?
I was always under the impression that the 27Inch could handle a resolution off 2,560x1,440
Could please explain to me if the current IMAC still handles 2,560x1,440 ?
Best Regards

You are welcome.
Correct, no more firewire (Thunderbolt and USB 3 only). You could use an adapter such as: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r?fnode=e9cab365a408a8d9e664cce3e64bd2df…

  • Questions before buying (T440s)

    Hello,
Just a few questions before buying a T440S.
    When configuring a T440S on Lenovo http://shop.lenovo.com I have 2 option for screen :
    - full HD (1920 x 1080)
    - HD+ (1600 x 900) - the default opton selected
Which option is better ? I'm lost because the resolution is better for the 1st one but the price is less expensive ("remove 3,24€"). That's not for the difference of price but therefore it seems that option 2 is better than option 1.
Is an IPS screen for both ?
I'm located in France, and I have thos options for 3G (mobile) :
    - none
    - pre-cabled for 3G module installation (not provided)
    - Module 3G/HSPA+ integrated (Ericsson N5321)
Does this last one compatible with French 4G (Orange or SFR) ? Otherwide, should I choose option 2 and buy a dedicated 3G/4G module elsewhere ? Which one ?
Finaly, I currently own a Dell E6400 with a  (port replicator E/PLUS ADVANCED). Which dock should I order in Lenovo accessories to have the same functionalities ?
    Thanks for your help
    F.

A bit late answer, so maybe you already bought your laptop.
Here in the northern Europe, the Lenovo official website only offers the Ericsson 3G module, but the official Lenovo vendors offer models with a built-in 4G/LTE module, and I'm pretty sure they also exist in the Lenovo TABOOK-pdf catalog.
Regarding the docks, one major difference is the video connections - Basic dock has only VGA, Pro dock has 1 DisplayPort and Ultra dock has 2 DisplayPorts.

  • A few questions before buying a spectre x360

Hi I'm considering buying a 13" Spextre x360 once Win10 arrives in final version -  but have a few questions before going ahead. Mostly looking into the 4041no (i'm from Denmark) - or similar configuration. I need a configuration with at least 500 GB of hard drive and 8 GBs of RAM.  1. Will the spectre support all the new windows 10 touchpad gestures (similar to OS X/Mac gestures)? I have read something about the touch pad on the not being a "precision touchpad" but instead being run by synoptic drivers or something. Don't know exactly what it means. I come from a Mocbook Pro - and these gestures are so good.  2. One of the things some talk about in reviews is heat - that the x360 gets very hot to hold. Even just browsing the web. And also fan noise being loud. Any experience here - is it just a few unfortunate buyers, or are any of these issues generic. 3. Browsing the web there are so many different model numbers, that i can't keep up - and some of them seem to be identical configurations. Is there any overview of what is what. For instance 4041no and 4040no seem identical - but there is a difference in price, at the stores i have seen online. Similarly there is a 4030no and a 4032no. What are all these models. different numbers for every store/country/????. Any help here.. 4. The 4041no model i'm looking into has this QHD screen. Very high resolution. How is that in everyday life for surfing the web (mostly Chrome), Photoshop, watching movies local/streaming and more. It seems that everything will be very small, or is there scaling options or other stuff that makes this high resolution usable in real life. Or maybe lower the resoltion in settings. Any experience? I will soon try to find one in a real store to try out if possible. Think i'll start with those questions :-) And maybe also some generel feedback on the spectre x360. Thanks /Jonas

    Hi Jonas,
I have the 4014 model (core i7, 256gb ssd, 8gb ram and FHD screen) so I can answer some but not all of your questions.
    1. Touchpad is responsive and easy to use for me. Just upgraded to windows 10 and multi touch gestures are working fine. Three finger tap to open search, four finger tap to open the quick settings panel. Three finger flicks do app switching and minimising. The pad is controlled by the synaptic driver, but it has quite a few options and seems to work well for me.
    2. Heat is not an issue for me. Sure, it gets warm when running intensive tasks, but as long as you are not pushing the cpu for long periods of time, it will be fine on your lap. Browsing the web, the fan will come on briefly when I load 10 or more tabs at a time, otherwise the fan will remain off.
Being an aluminium chassis, it has the ability to transfer heat out of the shell more easily than a plastic laptop, so you might notice it getting warm quicker, but it also cools down fast.
The fan is no louder than any other laptop I have used.
    3. Can't help you with model numbers, sorry.
    4. I'm finding that a lot of applications do not scale correctly on my FHD screen, so I can imagine that the QHD would be the same or worse. Most of the time, you can get the applications to look better by turning off display scaling in the compatibility settings. Sometimes this means that the application then looks smaller on screen, though text, images and icons are sharp, they are harder to read. The QHD would make these apps even smaller. I do not think QHD is worth it on a small screen for this reason.
In general the laptop works well. I use it in my job as a teacher, and being able to convert from laptop to tablet is a huge benefit. It is super fast to start up and easily gets me through a school day (quite often getting home with more than half a charge). I will just close the lid between uses and it sleeps, drawing very little power. It is capable of running Photoshop and office apps, while browsing the web and doing some light duty CAD modeling on the side.
One small issue that I and a few others have had is a crackling, buzzing noise due to the processor power regulation. Only audible in really quiet rooms or when putting an ear close to the device, when the computer is idling. Not an issue for everyday use, but something to be aware of if you have sensitive hearing or are annoyed by slight imperfections.
Hope that answers a few of your questions.

    That's mostly it!
    Thanks!

  • GE40 2PC - 2 questions before buying

    Hello people!
You've got a pretty nice forum here.
    OK, so my 2 questions before I buy GE40 2PC : )
    1. Does MSI block any keyboard combinations? I have some different company laptop and it has right + top + E blocked and I can't fully enjoy Fifa : /
    2. Is there a possibility to implement two drives in this model? I'd like an SSD + an HDD.
    Thanks!

Well, not block, but you don't have a context menu key (right click menu) or some keys are placed in stranged places or merged so as to use Fn key to use one of them (for example PgForward and End are in the same key). You can always remap the keys with external software.
Yes you can have those 2 drives. I have two SSD and one HDD.

  • H57M-ED65 - questions before buy

    Hi
I have a few questions about this board before buying it:
    1) Does the board support IGP under(/over)clocking? If not, is there a BIOS update planned and when?
    2) How far down can the CPU be undervolted? (my i3 530 goes to 0.825V @2GHz on another MB)
    3) Is there a block diagram available for all the different components on the board (like where and how the JMB363, VT6315, RTL8111BL... are connected)?

With the MB being so new there also are not many users that would be able to answer any of those questions especially the last one. As far as I know the GPU itself can be OC'd but I don't know if on that particular MB. I don't even know for sure if it can be done on my H55-GD65 because I'm still nearly a week away from have a memory kit for it.

  • 3rd Party Display Resolution Issue - Mid 2011 iMac 27inch Mavericks- iMac wont allow max resolution of Samsung SyncMaster SA850

    Hi Guys,
I just updated my 27 inch iMac to Mavericks and can't get my third party 27inch Samsung screen to run at maximum resolution. Even when using the "Alt" Click and select Scale shortcut I cant display the 2560 x 1440 resolution the screen is capable of.
I've called apple support and they couldn't rectify the issue nor could samsung. I've even tried the monitor in another iMac updated to mavericks and have the same issue.
Im connecting using a mini display port to DVI cable through my thunderbolt port.
My machine is Mid 2011 27inch iMac 3.1ghz core i5 with AMD Radeon HD graphics card upgraded to Mavericks
Monitor is brand new 27 Samsung SyncMaster SA850. I was able to get it to work at max resolution on a Windows 7 PC.
Any help would be appreciated. Thinking of returning the screen, hopefully Samsung will take it back.
    - C

The standard > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter only supports 24" monitor resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
For a larger monitor you need either a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
or perhaps a simple Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable if your monitor supports DisplayPort input.

  • A question before buy movie and music, please help.

Hi, I've just created itunes account and planing to buy some music and movie.
But I've got my worries so before I buy I want to make sure. I'm sorry if someone has already ask them.
    1. If I buy music from itunes can I play it on my Nokia phone? I have Nokia N8 and C7. And if I can, how do I do that.
    2. If I buy movie from itunes can I play it with Media Player Classic? I don't feel comfortable playing with itunes.
    3. Can I back up or copy the movie and music I buy from itunes and have been download to my windows pc to my hardisk?
    Thank you for your response

    1. If I buy music from itunes can I play it on my Nokia phone? I have Nokia N8 and C7. And if I can, how do I do that.
Yes you can. You just CANNOT sync with iTunes. You can either use Windows Media Player to sync OR manually drag and drop into your phone. I strongly recommend letting Windows Media Player sync it to your phone, it will convert the music format compatible for a Nokia.
    2. If I buy movie from itunes can I play it with Media Player Classic? I don't feel comfortable playing with itunes.
If Media Player Classic supports the proper format for iTunes movies, yes you can. You don't have to use iTunes to watch the movie, after downloading iTunes, it also downloads Quicktime Player of which you can use to watch iTunes movies.
    3. Can I back up or copy the movie and music I buy from itunes and have been download to my windows pc to my hardisk?
You can use a harddisk, USB flash drive, any iDevice to hold all you music and videos. As long as you have enough memory on any of the devices I told.
Hope all this info. helps. Good luck.

  • Questions before buying...

Looking to buy this as a gift for someone...don't know much about it. I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me...any help is greatly appreciated!
There is a USB port on the back of the Apple TV...
Can one connect a media card reader to the USB port and insert their Compact Flash or SD card to the card reader and put photos directly on to the Apple TV for viewing?
Could one then connect a USB cable from their digital camera directly to the Apple TV and put photos directly on to the Apple TV for viewing?
The Apple TV connects to the wireless network in a home. What if you had a wifi compatible digital camera...could you connect to the Apple TV directly and upload photos to Apple TV from your wifi compatible camera?
That would be awesome if this were all possible. If not, is everything with the Apple TV uploaded via a Mac that is on the wireless network with the Apple TV? That would be less awesome than just directly connecting media card readers and cameras via the USB port...
    Thanks!
    Tyler

So far as the consumer is concerned the USB port does nothing

No, Essentially the tv is a media extender, it allows you to watch your collection of media on the pc/mac on a tv. There are many such features asked for here on this forum, if they were all available the device would become extremely cumbersome as is the case with some of the tv competitors, believe me the tv's biggest feature is it's simplicity and ease of use. It's aimed at being used by the whole family not just the computer literate personnel in the household.

  • Few questions before buying

I'm looking to get an Apple TV box, but I have some questions that need answering.
First of all, I have a Macbook and PC and a Buffalo Wireless Router.
Keeping the above in mind, my PC is connected to the Router via ethernet cable and the macbook connects wirelessly. I'm looking to connect the Apple TV box wirelessly and manage it from my Windows PC. I don't know why but I think I might run into some trouble doing that.
So should I go ahead and buy it or will I run into configuration problems using my current setup?

I would add that it might depend upon which Buffalo wireless router, and which 802.11 spec you are expecting. You didn't define that, and Buffalo does have an (n) wireless router... That being said, and adding the fact that we're still dealing with a draft spec, you might want to seek out (post for) someone who has this running. This would help eliminate questions about different implementations of the (n) draft. If there were some kind of interop issue with draft Apple (n) and Buffalo (n), this may cause you to be limited to (g)... And if so, perhaps temporarily.
    My "eyes open" input. FWIW...

  • Few questions before buying a GPS receiver

    Hello everyone,
I have nokia E63 and I have few questions about the Maps feature:
    1. Is it free or do I have to subscribe to Maps?
    2. How can I tell if my there are maps available for my country?
    3. Does any bluetooth GPS receiver work, or do I have to buy something specific?
    4. After I buy a GPS receiver, do I have to pay something for my cellular company? or GPS + Maps is enough?
    Thanks in advance!
    Koby

    Hi kobyaizer
    1) Determining your position or planning a route is free, but you have to pay extra for voice guided navigation although a free trial is offered pricing available here:http://europe.nokia.com/A41441532
    2) Regional maps here:http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download/nokia-map-loader
    3) Any Bluetooth external GPS should suffice.
    4) Bear in mind two processes at work, Nokia Maps application in which you can set "go-online at start up" to "No" and "Assisted GPS" which can be disabled if you are using an external GPS as would be superfluous and in this scenario you do not have to pay anything. Assisted GPS if enabled downloads 2-5 kb's of data for a positional fix which without a data plan can cost about 0.07GBP in UK.
If you require any further information then please ask.

  • Fundamental questions before buying into the Droid phenomon

    Good morning.
Status:     User of Verizon for TV/Net/Phone.  Thinking of migrating to DROID.
Current phone:   No bells or whistles, no web access.
    Questions:
         1.  I've seen 3 "droid" phones advertised.  Which it the best (am leaning towards the Motorola)
         2.  What is the best deal in purchasing Droids?  I'll need two, and would like to leave the other two family members on their own phones for the $10/month.  (I'm seeing "buy one for $199 and the 2nd free).
         3.  I think I'm paying no more than $120/month for what I have now.  What would I be paying if I integrated the 2 droids into my "plan?"  How much of an increase am I likely to encounter?
         4.  Are "discount" plans of any value (alumni, employee, etc?).  If so, what is/are the best?
    Thank you!
    Dave :=)

    1. "Best" is subjective. In terms of pure specs? The HTC Incredible. Blows the Moto Droid out of the water; faster processor, more memory, better camera, nicer and more responsive touch screen, HTC's Sense UI is beautiful and elegant.
Only YOU would know what's "best" for you.
    2. BOGO is only currently offered on the Moto Droid and HTC Droid Eris. Go with the Moto Droid, it's the only one of the two that will get the new Android 2.2 Froyo update from Google.  And yes, pay $199.99 for the first one (After obligatory $100 rebate) and the second one is FREE (after obligatory $100 rebate).
    3. Each device will require it's own $29.99 data plan. So you're looking at adding $60 to your monthly bill. If one of the Droids is on your Primary line where you get your employee discount now then it will apply to the data plan as well, but only for the Primary line.
    You're welcome!

  • Question Before Buying

Hello, I am looking into buying a Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I have not yet decided on all of the customizeable stuff that I want. I mainly will be using it for picture and video editing, online college, and the Sims 3. I keep hearing, "Don't play games on your Mac; they can't handle it!" Is this true? I want a computer that will be able to easily handle my lifestyle. I know people love their Macs, and I am willing to make the leap if it will be the right computer for me.
Also, not knowing a whole lot about Macs, and with the lifestyle I have - what would I be looking for in a Mac that would best suit me?
    Thank you,

You will want the 15" not the 13" as it has weak graphics can't do 3D well at all and it's hot.
Apple makes a 15" antiglare model which is better to use than a glossy screen with all that glare.
"Don't play games on your Mac; they can't handle it!" Is this true?
To some extent, just like some Windows PC can't 3D game neither. Just have to know which one to buy.
The top end iMac, MacPro or MacBook Pro are sure 3D gaming machines with decent graphics, but never as good as the best PC's as they get all the good video cards first.
Drawbacks are Apple changes OS X constantly like every year now to a new version, and that causes problems for games when Windows only changes every decade instead.
Not as much as a selection in software, but one can run Windows 7 and run all their games in BootCamp.
Biggest drawback to 3D games on a Mac is one can't upgrade the video card like one can with a Windows 7 PC gaming tower. All Mac's are sealed up basically, only the MacPro can one change parts, but can't find video card upgrade options as easy as on Windows towers.
So one might 3D game for a time on a Mac, but eventually games get improvements and if you can't upgrade the video card your frag bait.
Mac's will cost more over time, plenty more. Like $8,000-$10,000 over 10 years, when you can get by with $1000-$2000 over the same period with a Windows 7 tower.
I want a computer that will be able to easily handle my lifestyle.
Well for the SIMs your fine on a Mac, no problem as it's just 2D mostly so it will run on anything.
It's when you want to seriously immerse 3D virtual worlds with surround sound, and customized options with lots of 3D games to choose from that your better off doing that on a Windows 7 3D gaming tower.
Dell will still sell Windows 7 gaming towers like Alienware etc., despite Windows 8 coming out.
Gaming on a Mac is a side hobby, not very serious as Apple doesn't care much, hasn't updated the Mac Pro in ages.
but I really need something that will fit my needs and go beyond them so I can trust in it and not need to worry about having to find an even better one.
You can give a 15" anti-glare top end MacBook Pro a spin, it's a good machine for a top end and can handle video well as well as 3D games for a few years.
If you search though you can find a powerful Windows 7 laptop, don't be surprised if it costs more than $1000-$1500.

  • GPU switching question before buying a GS70 Stealth

    Hi.
I do some hobby 2d game development and want to buy a laptop to work with when I'm not at home, so I'm interested in this model from a performance perspective (not to mention gaming).
I like the idea of having the Nvidia GPU and the Core i7's GPU to test stuff on seperately. I know that it will auto-switch when gaming, but can I actually tell the laptop which one I wish to use for a given .exe file (i.e. my own projects)?
    Thanks.

Quote from: Tolley on 10-September-14, 03:03:25
Now that I own it and in case anyone else has a similar question, you can right-click on something and the menu has options to choose which GPU to run on. Very nice.
Super laptop....that 5 second boot time
You should also be able to tell what GPU is being used by the color of the power button, I believe. I'm not 100% certain that the GS70 is the same as all the other laptops, but all the other laptops are a single color when the Intel iGPU is being used, and a different color when the NVidia GPU is being used.
My GT70 is white when the Intel GPU is in use, and Orange when the NVidia GPU is in use.

  • Lots of questions before buying a macbook pro..help please!!

So I am about to buy a macbook pro in the next couple of days with these specifications:
    MacBook Pro, 15-inch
    Part Number: Z0EZ
    Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
    Accessory Kit
    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
    200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    SuperDrive 8X (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
After I get the computer I am going to upgrade to 4 GB myself (cheaper). This computer will primarily be used for video editing (I'm off to film school). Here come the questions!!
    1. This is probably a really stupid question, but the 15 inch macbook pro has an isight right?
    2. I am in need of an external hard drive (or two). I was thinking of getting 1 TB primarily for my video projects, and then another 250 GB hard drive for time machine. Are two external hard drives going to be too much for the computer to handle? What hard drive(s) do you recommend? Right now I am thinking a G-Tech 1.0TB Quad-interface hard drive and a 250 GB G-Tech hard drive (for time machine). Which leads to my next question.
    3. I would love to use eSATA with my TB hard drive...but there aren't eSATA ports included on the macbook pro (I think). So i researched and found the 2-Port NitroAV eSATA II 3Gb/s Professional Express Card (34mm). This would work with the computer right? Is eSATA necessary or should I just stick with firewire? I'm attracted to it because I will be editing video with the computer and I would love the increased speeds but I'm afraid it will overwhelm the computer.
Okay I think that's it! Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    1-yes
2-look at macsales.com, click on harddrives then all things fire wire. they have a lot of different drives ranging all the way up to a 2 tb setup (its 2 separate stripped raid set ups that are then mirrored against each other). they also sell some esata dives, not sure what size they go to but they hae them
fire wire 400 has some crazy top limit of drives you can chain together of like 40some odd so 2 will be fine, i have 2 running right now and no issues. i would suggest if you get the drives form OWC (macsales) you use the softraid program that comes with it.
3- you can get a pci card for the card slot which macsales also sells if you go though them so you dont have to go more than one place
