Resolution Scaling on Macbook Pro

I have Windows running on bootcamp and I love having the ability to run 1080p.  Is it possible to do the same kind of resolution scaling on OS X?
By the way, I understand that a 1280x800 display can't display 1080p due to the fact that there's not enough pixels... I'm asking about scaling.

  • Resolution scaling for MacBook Pro (non-retina)

I see that the MacBook Pro Retina has a nifty resolution scaling feature that can make the fonts/icons look bigger while maintaining the display's native resolution.
Does the non-Retina MBP have the same ability? I would really like to be able to scale by 125% (fonts/icons appear 125% bigger) while keeping native resolution of 1440x900.

Sorry, but I don't think it's possible.  The Retina display does let you choose a couple options that are higher resolution than half, but as far as I can tell those appear blurry just like selecting that smaller resolution does for you, and all it really does is make the OS treat it like that's the resolution.  At best you'd only get a few things taht would look any better than just straight up setting your resolution to 1280x800.  I looked around a lot and wasn't able to find anything.
@pcpu  Sorry, but that wasn't what he was asking.  On the Retina MacBook you have 4 or 5 scale options, a few of them make it so you don't have the full resolution possible, but it's bigger than 1/2 the display resolution anyway, and I guess it might display UI elements that are vector in the actual full resolution, but most things look blurry from what I've heard.  He was asking if it was possible to do that same thing on his display, which I looked into, and I was unable to find any way to make the computer do the same thing on a non-retina display.  Telling him about how retina works isn't what he wanted, he wanted the UI bigger, and the UI is entirely vector or some such at this point so it would have looked just fine bigger if he could scale.

  • How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display?

How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display? When I click Get Info, the "Open in Low Resolution" box is marked and locked. How can I unmark this box? I currently run 10.9.1. I can open Adobe Photoshop CS6 in high resolution without any problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.
    TIA.

  • External monitor will not go to native resolution on my macbook pro

Hi, I have just bought a 22" Westinghouse monitor connected to the dvi and I have no idea on how to display its native resolution of 1680x1050 I have tried mirroring the two monitors and it will not allow me to view the native resolution on my new monitor.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    earnerich,
When mirroring, your Macbook Pro will default to the highest resolution of the lowest-resolution display. In this case, your external monitor must be driven at your Macbook Pro's highest resolution; 1440 X 900.
If you configure the external monitor as an extended Desktop, you can increase its resolution to its maximum. In extended Desktop mode, both displays can be driven at their highest supported resolution.

  • Screen resolution zooms automatically, Macbook Pro 15" 2006- how to reset?

    Hi-
A conundrum: plugged in an inexpensive third party keyboard (USB) into my Macbook pro 15" (Mod # A1150),running OS 10.4.11.
Immediately, the resolution zoomed to an unreadable size, and I cannot get the default reset.
I've tried Safe Boot several times, and zapping the PRAM. No results.
Would likeany ideas that are reasonable- need the machine asap,in the middle of a job. Ugh.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Resolution maximum on Macbook pro

Good evening, I have a doubt about the macbook, I need a quality monitor and I thought Thunderbolt Apple Display (flat panel 27 "), but the maximum resolution offered by the laptop is 1280 * 800, thus becoming unable to Benefit the maximum resolution your monitor is 2560x1440 instead. There is a device that can connect to your laptop for maximum exploitation to the maximum resolution of MN?
Also alternatively, I would like to know a third monitor that is comparable to the Apple Display Thunderbolt, maybe the Dell UltraSharp U2410 61 cm (24 ") with PremierColor?
    Thanks for your help.
    Greetings.

MacBook Pros support a maximum resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels on external displays.  The MBP should manage each display (built-in or external) independently.

    It's $19.00 to purchase.
    Display Maestro is $5.00.
    QuickRes is $5.00.

  • Intermittent screen resolution issues on Macbook Pro

My screen can be clear and then reduced resolution or reduced color palatte.  So I know the screen has full resolution capabilty, it just changes without notice for no reason.

I've just purchased an Envy Rcline 23-k300br and eversince I turned it on for the first time, I 've noticed an issue with the screen: the resolution of the screen is VERY BAD as I can see something like "strips" pof pixels, which makes it difficutl to read things on it (if looks as if there was a plastic film covering it, but there isn't). The pixels seem not to have a continuity, making the image (especilly in written text) very ugly and irregular. I have also noticed that when I press the back of the screen (for example to move the computer's position), the front screen shows a blurred yellowish spot (whcih changes the correct color of whatever is being shown on the screen at the moment), which disappears as soon as I stop pressing it (notice that even the slightest presure will cause the spot to appear).I have a Touchsmart 640 (windows 7) and the screen has an awesome resolution and it's perfect! I cannot understand why this happens on Envy Recline, since it's supposed to be a more modern (and improved) computer.

  • What is the best display resolution setting for Macbook Pro retina display for photography?

Display resolution settings are somewhat criptic. I want maximal resolution for editing photos. Which one should I choose?

Not sure what you mean by "attachment" -
The question was about a player/recorder, also known as a burner when used with a computer. Any burner will also function as a player with a computer (as in "read and write") - just attach the drive and insert a CD or DVD. iTunes will however, most likjely, attempt to immediately import the song - that is its default behavior. I have other audio software, so I can bypass iTunes as I don't care to use it. And this is what I am referring to:

  • How to reset display resolution on a MacBook Pro

    Hi,
My MBP 15.4 /2.4GHz display is stuck at a low colour display and I am unable to get it back to normal. I was working in MS Remote Desktop Connection, switched into OS X's Universal Access in System Preferences and that's when the fun started.
I've tried resetting PRAM using CommandOption+PR, but to no avail. My display settings in System Preferences show what one would expect - 1440x900, millions of colours. Changing these and switching back does nothing.
The thing is, when I start up, the desktop shows the display as it should be for a split second before it garbles the display's colours. It looks like an old Win 3.x box with 16 colour settings.
Is there a config file I can delete to reset the display, or some other way round this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated...
    Cheers,

Called Apple support, turned out to be a corrupt preference file; I renamed the preferences folder & rebooted & that resolved the issue. Now have to rebuild / copy back my old preferences...

  • MacBook Pro 15" Retina Scaled Display

I just received a brand new MacBook Pro 15" with a retina display. I've never had an Apple laptop with a retina display, so I don't know too much about it. I don't like the default resolution used (too big!) for the retina display. However, when I go for "more space" it lets me know that scaled resolutions may affect performance. I am wondering if there is any actual downside to using the 1920x1200 scaled resolution on the MacBook Pro 15" w/retina display (I have the one with the 2.6GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and the discrete graphics card).

Did you ever receive an answer to this, or have you enabled scaling and noticed any performance impact? I too am a new 15" MBP owner (first Mac ever) and was immediately disappointed with the display the first time I turned it on. Resolution is definitely too low for this size screen.

  • Different resolutions for Macbook Pro display and External display

Is it possible to have different resolutions for a Macbook Pro and an external display. I prefer to see less but larger on my Macbook Pro whilst seeing more but smaller on my external display. I use the DVI output to connect to an Acer 22in display.
    Thanks in advance

I've actually tried that process and it doesn't work; I still get the same display qualities on both. Perhaps that process might work if one is not mirroring. Maybe there is a compatibility issue between my Macbook Pro and the Acer 223W. I'll persevere, but thanks for your help anyway.

    Hi Ian,
    allow me to chime in:
    You are absolutely correct!
In 'Mirroring Mode' both internal and external display have the same resolution.
Only in 'Extended Mode' you can have different resolutions for both displays.
