Resolution/Size of Pictures in Mail

Hi! I am a new Mac user, so if this question has been answered before or appears "dumb" please excuse the learning curve from a former PC owner.
I was wondering if anyone knew what resolution/picture size mail uses when you attach a picture to an outgoing email. When I use mail and change the picture size in the lower right hand corner, what size does mail change the picture to? For example, is medium 640 x 480?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi.
The Sizes are:
Large 1290x960
Medium 640x480
Small 320x240
If the size of the picture you attach is in between of any of those sizes, the larger one (or ones) will be dimmed.
Also, if you email a picture from iPhoto, you have one more option: full size (the size your camera suports).
Good Luck.

  • How do you change the size of pictures?

    Hello,
I'm a new Mac user. How do you change the size of pictures in iPhoto? Sometimes when sending e-mails, the picture files are extremely large and take a long time to load... Is there any way you can make the picture or file smaller? Like on a PC, you can open the photo in the Paint program and just reduce the size... Is there anything like this for the Mac?
    Thanks!

Assuming that you're accessing your email package from INSIDE iPhoto, you're given a choice of picture sizes. Personally, I've found "medium" to be a good compromise but you might prefer "small" (iPhoto will tell you the file size).
If you don't know what I'm talking about, first go iPhoto Preferences > General and select your email client. Then, go to the View menu and select Show in Toolbar > Email.

  • Can i make a book in iPhoto without using any of the built in layout templates, which are too limiting when i have already cropped my pictures to show just what I want. Ideally I just want to drag and drop and arrange and size the pictures myself

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered:  Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book.  Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.

How can I increase the file size limit for outgoing mail. I need to send a file that is 50MB?

You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big.  Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.

  • Unable to send pictures with mail from iPhoto

Since yesterday i cannot use iPhoto to send pictures with mail, it just does not open a new mesage in mail. can you help me please? have done cleaning tasks and repeired permissions already. thank you.

    Does anything happen?
Have you deleted the iPhoto Preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

  • CP5: Is there a way I can set the resolution size before I start recording?

When I launch Adobe Captivate 5, I click on "Create New.. Software Simulation", but I can't find a way of setting the screen size / resolution before I start recording, like there is when you click "Create New... Blank Project".
I prefer to do a new Software Simulation instead of a Blank Project because I can record in Demo, Training and Assement modes all at once, and I don't get this option when I start a project.
    Can someone help me?
    Many thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Choose 'Custom size' after having selected the application to record, and you will be able to choose a resolution. If you choose Application or  Application region the current resolution, size of that application or that region will be kept. But with custom size you can have a resolution and the application snapping to that resolution.

  • Why the inconsistency in video resolution sizes?

This is really driving me nuts! Kinda annoying to buy legal stuff and find the video resolution size consistency is all over the place!!!
For example, Leverage, Season 5. There are three different video resolution sizes for both SD & HD. 853x480, 853x478 and 853x476!!! For SD video it used to be just 853x480. But now, it's all over the place in one single season. Same goes for HD videos. Bones, Season 8 too. And now Burn Notice, Season 6.
Some say can't see the 2 to 4 pixel height difference. Well, it's not a matter of whether one's ability to see the difference or not. Rather it spells bad quality for buying something more expensive than DVD or Blu-ray. And coming from Apple?
Mr. Eddy Cue, where's the consistency and quality?

The inconsistency surfaced this year. When back and checked past years purchases and things were consistant then.

  • The font size on my e-mail app is too small. Zooming in results in scrolling for miles

The font size  on my e-mail app is too small. I have already tried adjusting my font size preferences in the settings. It has no effect. The text seems zoomed out. When I zoom in manually, the text extends for miles to the right beyond the window size and I have to keep scrolling over to read. This is very annoying. It used to resize and readjust the text to fit within the screen. Is there a glitch in the app itself or have I somehow reset something which is causing this to happen? Is anyone else having this problem?

Could you have the Zoom feature turned on?  Go to Settings>General>Accessibility and check/correct.

  • HT4519 how do i get my server email to send pictures.  Email works without pictures, but when attaching a picture the mail will not send

Email works without pictures, but when attaching a picture the mail will not send

    Hi,
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts to can find out which STMP server you are using for outgoing items.
    This can be one account.
I do this with a dial Up account I still have access to.
I can "fetch" mail over DSL and now Fibre.
However I have to be Logged in via Dial up to actually use their Servers to Send.
As a Consequence I "send" via one of the other Accounts STMP servers.  (I tend to add a signature that reflects this account change)
The other thing that might explain what you are seeing is the Full Name Box.

  • Cannot send RAW Pictures per Mail

I loaded several RAW Pictures from my Canon 5D M II at my iPad. Then I tried to send a picture via Mail to a friend. The picture program freezed a while and the iPad switched to the front desktop without sending the mail. I tried it with other pictures without a success.
    Has anybody the same foult?

Those raw files are too large for email. Most email providers have a 10 mb limit. The files from your camera are much larger. To transer large files you can use an ftp server (Goodreader is a great app that handles large files and connects to ftp servers and much more).
