Resolution & "Snap to fit" problem

I'm unable to get Snap to fit to work in Captivate 3. It
doesn't snap to the desired window. It does change size, but it is
proportionally larger and misaligned. Oddly, the resulting movie is
sized in the correct proportions (same as the desired window), but
the image is shifted about 20 pixels down and to the right, so you
can see the desktop (or whatever is behind the window). Also, you
can see two sides of the red box (due to the misalignment). This
red box behavior happens in both "application" and "custom size".
If I choose full screen, I get a message "The recording dimensions
you have selected are greater than 1024x768. Proceeding with these
dimensions will work, however for improved performance Adobe
Captivate suggest you to reduce the recording area." [Obviously not
written by an English speaker.]
My laptop's screen resolution is set to 1680x1050, so I don't
understand the "1024x768" part. Also, in the Captivate recording
dialog, it displays "Recording size: 1344x840" in the upper right
corner. I don't know where those dimensions come from.
I've tried changing my laptop's resolution to 1024x768, but
the resulting Captivate box is still proportionately larger.
Very odd, and the behavior makes the program virtually
unusable.
Thoughts?

I think I figured it out... I changed Vista's display color
setting from 32 bit (the default setting) to 16 bit ("Classic"
apparently). If this is a requirement, shouldn't Captivate have
detected the discrepancy?

  • T430 1600x900 i5 Core: Mini DisplayPort To HDMI 1920x1080 TV Resolution And Sizing-Overscan Problems

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help.  Also, my apologies if these issues have been previously resolved; I've spent 2 days searching for answers and none of my effort has resulted in a solution, either here or elsewhere.
I very recently for the first time connected my ThinkPad T430 2344-5GU (i5 core, native screen resolution 1600x900, Intel HD 4000 v9.17.10.2843, NVIDIA Optimus NVS 5400M v9.18.13.1100) to a Panasonic HD TV (native screen resolution 1920x1080) using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI connector, with the hope of playing 1080p movies on my laptop while watching them on the TV.  This seemingly worked fine at first--both audio and video were present--but I quickly noticed that the image on the TV was, very slightly, larger than the image on the laptop screen (cutting off roughly 5% of the image on each of the 4 sides) and that the resolution wasn't 1920x1080.  So I hunted for a solution.
Windows display properties were no help.  In fact, as soon as I tweaked something there I lost the picture on the TV (the options available are "Show desktop only on 1" (the laptop screen), "Show desktop only on 2" (the TV screen), and "Extend these screens", which annoyingly turns the TV blank yet allows the cursor to to enter the TV screen depending on the chosen layout and the cursor's approach direction to the TV).  So, from having a functional-if-slightly-oversized-and-lower-quality picture on the TV screen I went to nothing, at least for my desired use.
Further research led me to the Intel HD 4000 settings, but those didn't even show that multiple screens were in use when the TV is attached.  Finally, I tried using the NVIDEA Control Panel, but although multiple displays seem to be supported the best I can do when cloning is have the screens' resolutions meet in the middle at 1440x900, which makes them both look worse than the original plug-and-play result described above.  Heck, I went so far as to enter the BIOS and try every combination possible under "Graphics": no NVIDEA, Integrated, Discrete, each with and without "Auto Detect NVIDEA capability" enabled and disabled.  I even updated the NVIDEA driver to their newest, a version not available at the Lenovo Support site.  Nothing.  And worse, ever since my very first tweak under Windows display properties I wasn't able to return to the original  functional-if-slightly-oversized-and-lower-quality picture.
At this point I used a very recent image to return my system to it's Pre Original Tweak state (allowing for the  functional-if-slightly-oversized-and-lower-quality picture originally obtained), which is better than nothing, I guess, but surely not what I'd expect from a higher end laptop.
Please, does anyone know if there's a way to connect my T430, native resolution 1600x900, to an HD TV, native resolution 1920x1080, while actually maintaining each screens respective native resolution and not losing any of the image?  Thank you again for your time.
Edit:  After more research I've fit the desktop image to the screen by adjusting the TV's "Picture/Advanced picture/HD size" setting from "Size 1" to "Size 2".  Now my only question is if it's possible to somehow play a 1080p movie at the TV's native resolution of 1920x1080 or if I'm stuck with the laptop's navtive resolution of 1600x900.

Try grabbing the latest NVIDIA driver off of the NVIDIA website. It might help.
Extending it should also allow you to run the 1600x900 T430 screen plus the 1920x1080 TV screen each at their native resolutions.

  • I think i understand "artwork size &  resolution exceeds the max" problem.

    Hi all,
"the combination of artwork size and resolution exceeds the maximum  that can be rasterized".  Have you ever gotten this error message?
After running into this problem constantly and getting support from you great guys, i think i understand why i keep getting this error.
As you all said, Ai is a 32 bit program and as such can run out of usable memory quickly, not by creating a lot of vector objects, but by having too much memory sucked up by raster objects. This is not a problem when raster object are "linked" but when they are embeded.
It appears the problem occures when you ask Ai to either convert vector objects to raster or create raster objects like shadows. Even if you have a linked raster object - say - a photo, and you want to create a shadow underneath it, Ai will embed the raster shadow as apposed to creating a linked shadow object associated with the object you want to create the shadow for.
Soooo, the larger the linked raster object is (that you want to create a shadow under) the larger the embeded shadow object is. If your creating shadows for small objects, you won't run out of memory very quickly. But if you have big objects you want to create shadows for, you will run out of Ai's allocated memory with just a few objects.
As far as i know, you can't tell Ai to link internally created raster objects like shadows. So this is where all of the alternative suggestions come into play such as:
    1. reducing Ai's Raster Effects ppi setting (may or may not help depending on how far your over Ai's allocated memory limit)
    2. linking raster shadows created in photoshop
    3. creating wire mesh gradient vector objects to use as shadows
Until Ai becomes 64bit, I hope this helps others.

BTW, has anyone printed Ai shadows at a Raster Effects setting of 72 or 150ppi for a large object?
Does the shadow still look good?

  • Size-to-Fit problem, Planning 9.3.1

I'm having a problem with a new install of Planning 9.3.1 (with Patch 1).
When I select "Size-to-Fit" from the options for column size, it doesn't work. The columns don't resize themselves to fit the data, and I can not resize them by dragging the mouse on the column header.
Things work normally when I select other size options. Very odd.
Anyone seen this or have an idea what's going on?
    -- Joe
(P.S. no JavaScript errors indicated in the status bar)

    Joe,
I can confirm some pretty strange behavior with Size to Fit at my location.
What I'm seeing in 9.3.1/IE6 is when I select that option are columns that are just a bit under one character wide. The header members are three characters wide.
I also cannot size the columns in IE6.
In Firefox 2.0.0.14 (yes, I know, not supported, but I like it a lot better and it works for me) I can resize the column headers but it has no effect on the rows below the header. I can't do this in IE6 (probably shouldn't be able to).
These are forms that were created natively in Planning 9.3.1.
    Regards,
    Cameron

  • Resolution Stretched/Screen Viewing Problem

I was just cleaning my imac 27" and cleaned the keyboard while its on (silly i know ) and my screen size seems to have stretched. My resolution is at the maximum 2560 x 1440 but i have to move the mouse cursor up and the screen moves so i can see the file/edit/view bars at the top. Then to get back to the dock at the bottom the screen slides down (same left and right as well). How do i get my resolution back to automatically fit the screen. Its really annoying me now
    Thanks
    Max

Den.thed has probably nailed it, but another possibility is that the Zoom function became enabled via a keyboard combo. To check for the, open the Unversal Access pane in System Preferences; select the Seeing item in the top area. If Zoom is active, and you do not want that feature, turn it off. If this is the cause, the screen will immediately fix itself.

  • Is there any resolution to "SIM Failure"  problem?

I get this failure message several times a week on HTC 8X.   It doesn't seem to be fatal and sometimes the phone recovers itself from it or other times I have to reboot.  I think it is somehow associated with poor signal reception problems.  Anyhow it's annoying and is my only detraction to my Windows Phone.

Hello DanDuna, let's solve this mystery! Have you tried powering off and removing the Sim card to see if there are any scratches or if it fits within the tray without movement? Try testing in Safe Mode to see if error appears: http://vz.to/1lgrhf3 You may want to test with an alternate sim card as well. Keep us posted!

    Hello Sam,
Thank you for the reply. The error number was something like 10024(?) I found out that my problem was to do with the function definition. The function limits were not set right. When I corrected it worked. But you are right that somehow I do not define the type correctly. See the routine below:
The xData and yData are defined as variant, likewise the yFit variable. The first two are populated in a for loop, therefore they are redimensioned prior to this. On the other hand the yFit variable is filled as an array by the NonLinearFit routine. This typing works for the fit routine, but it doesn't work for the plot routine where two differently typed variables, yData and yFit are used as arguments of the Array function. In order to make this to work I used CWDSP function for the XData, yData arrays which is an overkill. What is the reasonable solution for type casting these variables? Thank you.

  • Curve fitting problem: simultaneously fitting two datasets to two different model functions with shared parameters

Hello! As stated above, I have the following problem: I have 2 sets (different systems) of measurement data (Voltages measured as functions of applied frequency). I would like to make curve fits with Levenber-Marquardt-method to both datasets (the datasets have the same x-values = frequencies), fitting the 2 datasets to their own separate model functions. However, the different model functions should have same values for the shared parameters (this prevents me from doing 2 totally separate curve fittings).
I have LabVIEW version 7.1, if anybody could help me with the problem, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you!

Would you like to try this:

  • Need solution for auto-fit problems

I've got a form with 7 text boxes that I'm looking to get copy to auto-fit properly. I'd also like to flow the content without having to start from scratch with a new form.
    Here are my problems:
    - "Expand to fit" is grayed out for both the height and width on every text box.
    - "Allow page breaks within content" and "Keep with next" are also grayed out on every text box.
    - I also have "make fixed-size text object auto-fit while editing" checked to perform in my options and it's not doing that at all.
    HELP!!!! Thanks.
    Gabriel Daigle

Tried this.  Didn't work.  All those items mentioned previously, as well as anything having to do with subforms, are grayed out. Even tried a new document with flowable layout, added text boxes, and everything is still grayed out.  Any other solutions out there?

  • Snap to Grid problem in Illustrator CS4

I found a weird problem with the "snap to grid" feature in Illustrator CS4 running on MAC OS X Snow Leopard.
To reproduce it, on my system, it is enough to:
    1. Make sure to have the Snap To Grid enabled (View->Snap to grid)
    2. Draw a rectangle (see BEGIN.JPG)
    3. Select the Direct Selection Tool
    4. Try to increase the width of the rectangle, by dragging one side of the shape (not a single point, but the whole side in a move).
    5. On my system, I see that Illustrator behaves in a wrong way; it is like Illustrator is snapping to a not aligned grid, and the rectangle begins to be distorted (see END.JPG).
If I try to move a on point at a time, instead of moving one complete side, everything seems to works fine.

Win Vista 64-bit AI CS4.  Can't seem to reproduce your issue.  I drag on the right side of a rectangle with grid snap on and show grid and it snaps exactly to the grid, not anywhere in between even if I start with a rectangle that was created "not-on-grid".  When it snaps it snaps to distances equal to the grid spacing, though it won't snap to the grid itself.  It's as if it snaps to its own internal grid.  I guess that's a problem in and of itself since once you have grid snapping turned on no matter where the original rectangle was you would like it to snap to the grid lines.
EDIT:  Now I see how you created the problem--with direct selection (white arrow) as opposed to full selection with bounding box (black arrow).  Black arrow selection snaps to its internal grid while white arrow snaps to rhombus-like snapping.  I guess it's designed to be used with individual points and not with edges.  (AI doesn't have edge-snapping).

  • Two Strange Problems (monitor resolution acting screwy, firewire problems)

the firewire ports in my dual gig powermac g4 (10.4.10) died randomly. so i put in a pci firewire card, which works fine...but now my monitor resolution resets to 1024x768 every time i restart. it does not remember that i use 1280x1024, and i have to change it every time i turn it on.
the other problem, ever since the firwire died: if i go to "system profiler" and click on "firewire," the system profiler instantly crashes.
i don't know why either of these things are happening, does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

    Ok
I've got a PCI combo fw + usb2 adapter on this G4 mdd 1,25. If I open system profiler and check FireWire nothing detected and sys prof crashes immediately, as yours. Fw works fine, Usb2 not very well, as I can deal with BlueTooth or Pen drive, memory sticks, but not ext hd LaCie 250Gb Usb boxed. After reading a lot I've find that chipset on PCI adapter(s) HAS to be NEC / OPTI branded for
good working on my Mac. The PCI combo card I'm using now has got ALI chipset, tried also another one VIA chip (worst)
If your FW port(s) dead for something wrong, it maybe necessary a PMU reset

  • Screen Resolution doesn't fit?

I'm honestly not sure how it happened! I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator and then I noticed that the writing in the top menu bar was blurred and I couldn't see the dock. I went into preferences and looked at the displays part and the resolution is on 1440 x 900, which is the highest and the normal one I believe? The picture is to big for the screen and I'm having to use the mouse at the corners to move around to see the rest of it.
I have no clue how it happened. I just really can't figure out how to get it back?!

You've probably activated Zoom. Command + Option + 8 toggles Zoom on and off. You can also hold the control key and use two fingers on the track pad (swipe toward you) to return the Zoom to normal.

  • Any resolution to the sound problem?

I have been having the same sound problem with my Mid 2010 Mac Pro tower ever since I got it.  I have been in touch with Apple and have been told that they are familiar with the problem, but that they are still working on a fix.  The problem is that I have external speakers, and every time I shut down and then start up again, I have to go to preferences and physically change the sound output to go to the speakers.  I have also been tole that the Mac is supposed to sense the external speakers and go directly to them.
Is there anybody else out there with this problem, and has been able to resolve it?
    Thank you.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro and use the stereo line out jack in the back of my machine for my speakers with no problem.  I don't recall any problems setting it up.  But check the Audio MIDI Setup (in your utilities folder) to see if you can set it from there (should be able to).  Not sure why the preference wouldn't stick.  And I don't believe there is automatic detection of an attached sound output device where the sound preference switches to that (unless maybe the front jack which I never use).

  • Resolution, brightness and controlling problem

I've recentrly adquired my Mac Mini and I don't know how to solve this problem. My TV it's a LEC 32" FullHD connected by HDMI. I'd never had any problem with my Playstation or any other device connected by HDMI with my TV. First of all, the words seems to be a little blurry, the brightness it's very high, and the automatic adjustment of the Mac to this TV it's clarely under 1080p. But when I select manually 1080p the words are still blurry, thw bright is still high and the only significant difference it's that everything look smaller XD.
The other issue is that I can't control bright or sound from the keyboard, I'm forced to do this from the TV remote control. Please help me with these, or I will need to change it for a PC with Windows and I don't want that.
