Resolution Stretched/Screen Viewing Problem

I was just cleaning my imac 27" and cleaned the keyboard while its on (silly i know ) and my screen size seems to have stretched. My resolution is at the maximum 2560 x 1440 but i have to move the mouse cursor up and the screen moves so i can see the file/edit/view bars at the top. Then to get back to the dock at the bottom the screen slides down (same left and right as well). How do i get my resolution back to automatically fit the screen. Its really annoying me now
Thanks
Max

Den.thed has probably nailed it, but another possibility is that the Zoom function became enabled via a keyboard combo. To check for the, open the Unversal Access pane in System Preferences; select the Seeing item in the top area. If Zoom is active, and you do not want that feature, turn it off. If this is the cause, the screen will immediately fix itself.

  • Screen view problems when using a projector

Just hooked up a QUMI projector. First run through of a Power Point presentation was fine. During the second run it didn't appear on the projector screen.  I had to move the Power Point way off to the right so I could no longer view it on my laptop
but it was then showing up on the projector screen. Is this a projector problem or a laptop problem? Please save me from making another trip to the Geek Squad.

    Hi DawnBerry,
How did you project the screen (Duplicate ,extend ,project only )?
We can try different project methods to have a check by pressing Win keys() +P.
Apart from this ,please open the device manager to update the driver or reinstall the driver to have a check. We may need to download the driver from the manufacturer website .

  • Screen Viewing Problem

My screen seems to "float" beyond the edges of the monitor.  I have to use the mouse to drag unviewable parts of the screen into view (up/down/right/left).  This just began occurring yesterday and I am not able to determine how to return to full view.  Can anyone direct me how to get my screen in full view on the monitor?

Turn off Zoom from the Universal Access and Keyboard & Mouse panes of System Preferences.

  • Transition Problems in Full Screen View

    Hi.
I've created a Powerpoint presentation on the Bayeux Tapestry which I now want to convert to a PDF document so that I can add multimedia.
My Powerpoint presentation features photographs of a section the tapestry with each photograph placed on a separate slide. I've used the Powerpoint 'push left' transition to create a panoramic effect which creates the illusion that the tapestry is being scrolled from right to left  as the viewer clicks through the presentation. It all works very well in Powerpoint as the slides butt up against each other in transition without any 'seam' between them.
I thought I could simply replicate the effect in Acrobat 9 by converting the presentation to PDF and selecting the 'push left' transition from Advance/Document Processing options then launching the document in full screen view. However, I've found that using a push left transition in Acrobat creates wacking great gaps between the pages as they scroll right to left: this absolutely ruins the whole effect.
As you can probably tell, I'm pretty much a newbie with Acrobat 9 (but not with other Adobe applications) and I can't work out for the life of me how to get around this problem. Is there someting simple that I'm overlooking on the full screen view options or perhaps in the Powerpoint conversion settings or do I have to start adjusting resolutions etc? Or maybe it's just the nature ofthe beast (do hope not)?
I'd be very grateful for any enlightenment or advice.
PS: Forgot to mention the Powerpoint was created in default landscape layout and hence so is the PDF.

Do you have the PDF version to fill the full screen and not leave borders? If you print to PDF (not create PDF), then a margin is added by default (as when you print to paper). The border can be reduced to 0, but that is an extra step with the print. As I recall, the PDF Maker (create PDF) does not include the margins. Thus the whole margin bit may be the issue.

  • Problem with iPhoto screen view

I am trying to divide my photos into different albums. I took action pics of a high school soccer team and need to divide them into individual albums. I need to have bigger views of the pics. I can only get the screen to show me 4 pics in a row while still being able to drag them into albums. If I try to use the slider to view 3 or 2 in a row it will only go immediately to one large pic and I am unable to either delete, drag, or anything with it. I have to move the slider down, which automatically goes back to the 4 pics in a row view, in order to be able to drag the pic to an album. This is making an easy job a pain. Is there something I can do to fix this? I've also tried to move the left margin to make the photo area bigger or smaller and it doesn't change the problem.

    Deborah:
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try the slider again. If that doesn't help have you tried viewing the slides in the full screen view mode. You can view them two at a time by selecting two and clicking on the double arrow button that's next to the blue "i" button in the lower toolbar. You can advance either of the photos by using the forward/back arrows on the keyboard or on the screen.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • What are "average" screen sizes, resolutions etc. for viewing websites?

This may be the wrong forum but -
All screen sizes vary, all browser outputs vary, and all individual preferences for browsers are subjective.
Having stated the obvious, can anyone offer guidance on the best 'common denominator' settings/set-up procedure on starting out on a web design so that the best 'average' viewing and reading is achieved? A tough one!
I now have an iMac 24" set high on 1920 x 1200 and my current website looks fine. But now I'm told 800 x 600 is still a fairly common screen resolution worldwide, and viewed on this my pics and texts are elephantine, need scrolling mercilessly, and are.....
    just plain ugly!

I think it really depends on your audience. If your audience is ALL, then you'd probably better stick to 640x480 I'm sure there's a few still out there!
If your audience is "recent/new computer users, you could be safe designing for 1024x768. If you just want a good sized swath of users with computers of a decent capability, then some of iWeb's pages (several of the default themes fit well within 800x600) are good for this, leaving plenty of room for dragging items to the desktop and accounting for scroll bars

  • What else can I try to change my screen view back to normal a button must have been hit and it went to super huge view? I have tried resolutions resets already

last night a button must have gotten hit on my  desk top.  The whole screen view went super huge and I have tried all the resolution changes and the system prefrences I have no clue what else to try after 3 hours failed.

Okay, I'll have one last go.   I am now looking at the post you have just sent me.   As you (a) started the post and (b) have not awarded stars to anyone yet, directly one line above the grey 'Like' and 'Reply' words should be a green star and a yellow star.   That is because you have yet to award them.   Once you do, the chosen one will disappear and reappear against the post you selected.
Now were you to consider this post worth a yellow help mark and you clicked the yellow star, you would see that happen.   Then if it works, you can go to any of Paul's posts and click the green one there.
We are not allowed to ask for stars so if you do that it would be your decision but I can see no other way to explain or demonstrate.
Otherwise I can't help more and simply be at a loss to understand what has happened.

  • Problem with Cover Flow full screen view in 10.6

I like to use the Cover Flow full screen view in iTunes on my monitor.  Since upgrading to iTunes 10.6 Cover Flow full screen view will revert to Cover Flow standard view between each song. This did not occur with any previous version of iTunes. Is there a setting that will prevent Cover Flow automatically switching back to standard view from full screen view?

I guess I am the only one experiencing this issue of Cover Flow full screen view collapsing to standard view when a song within an album or playlist changes. This began in 10.6 and has continued in 10.6.1. At least I have not experienced the more serious issues others have with 10.6.

  • Screen view distorted on initial boot up

Once I set screen preferemces (1920x1080) on my initial startup of Lion, the gray apple (or boot drive choices with opt. startup) have been in the proper configuration without distortion,
Today, I created my own Lion Thumb Drive and when I tested by booting off the USB drive, the screeen showed stretch distortion. I was not alarmed because the prefs would need to be set. Unfortunately, subsequent startups or the opt. startup have the stretched distorted grey apple or the drive choices.
I have shut down and restarted, but the problem still is present. Once the chosen operating system (lion or snow leopard), the screen view is as expected
This is not a major problem, but visually annoying to me.
How can I get the initial views in the proper screen resolution as they had been before booting off the USB drive. It seems like the boot rom has been changed.

    Problem appears to be solved.
Zapped the PRAM and bootup is back to normal.

  • Mac Pro 2007 with Nvidia 8800GT screen redraw problems on Mac OS 10.5.2

I seem to be having a slight screen redraw problem. Such as when grabbing the browser window and moving up and down it seems the redraw can't keep up,also seems problematic when watching flash or other video online. It does it in the finder too for windows listings or in icon view there is a fluttering or flashing back and forth, kind of like a white super split second flash when dragging the window box smaller or larger not as bad as when making smaller. Hard to describe but my original Ge-force that I pulled was not having these characteristics. I figure that the drivers need tweaking. In windows I am not getting these results. I have newer boot camp installed as well as the leopard graphics update done so I am trying to see if others are having a slight problem or maybe it is me.
Also I make certain it is not heat related as I monitor that and it does not matter at what temp it is.

Here's another similar experience -- and my solution.
I bought a Quad-core 2.8GHz (8GB RAM) Mac Pro in May and got the "better" Nvidia 8800GT. I thought I was happy, but there were redraw issues after sleeping and a display "roughness" I found annoying. Upgrading to OSX 10.5.4 didn't help.
I found it to be mostly absent on startup, but sleeping the Mac would bring it on. I.e., after sleep, the relatiionship between the 8800GT would be different than before. when I logged out and in again, the problem woud vanish. No what I expect from a "superior" graphics card. I ascribed it to funky drivers from Apple.
The store I bought the Mac from offered to swap for my suggestion of an ATI HD 3870, so I went for it about a week ago.
This card is far smoother than the 8800GT and just as fast in rendering benchmerks for graphics. (I'm not a gamer.) I am a happy camper! There is no stuttering, oddball redraw, or jerkiness as there had been with the 8800. It's perfect! Never mind that it may be 5% slower for gamers, it feels faster for my use.
BUT NOTE: As I now see from reading several forums, I wasn't alone is getting a screaming-Mimi at first! The first 3870 ran at nearly full fan speed at power-up. The speed changed a little with resolution changes on my big Mitsubishi CRT monitor, and actually stopped when I switched to 1080x1920 @ 72Hz! Then the fan would start and quit, start and quit randomly -- convincing me it was defective.
I returned this RED-shrouded unit and the store replaced it, this time with (randomly) a BLUE-shrouded unit. (Slightly lower serial.)
Bottom Line: This replacement 3870 is quiet as a mouse! Fan runs near-silently at startup and after hours of regular use in a 75ºF room. I get the distinct feeling that a bunch of cards with wonky fan controllers were built, and some of us got 'em.
Bad News: The ATI HD 3870 does NOT support multiple refresh rates under Windows XP-SP2 booting the Mac Pro, with or without Boot Camp drivers installed. No version of the ATI drivers fixes this, and ATI does not officially support Boot Camp yet. You can choose a resolution okay, but you're stuck at 60Hz refresh -- a pain for those of us who hate 60Hz flicker. (I like 100Hz refresh.)

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer: Full screen view of lower quality than with PSE 10 and before?!

Upgrading from PSE 10 to 11, I noticed that when I watch my images with the organizer in PSE 11 in full screen view mode (F11), while the images load faster, they are shown in a lower quality than in PSE 10 or any other version of PSE that I owned before. In PSE 11, after the initial viewing in full screen (in the "fit screen" mode), when I click with the mouse on an image to display the "100%" view, there is a delay and the program says "Loading...", after which the 100% view in the full screen mode appears. When I then click another time with the mouse on the image to get back to "fit screen" mode, I get an image of better quality than during the initial view!
So it seems like the program first gives a faster, but lower quality view of the image in full screen mode, and only after the user requests a 100% view, it actually loads the image with full detail, which is then preserved when going back to the "fit screen" view. This is a serious issue for me, because I also use PSE organizer to present my pictures to other people, and I don't want to show them some lower quality versions of my images, but the full quality ones, without having to first choose "100% view" and then go back to "fit screen".
How can I make the PSE 11 organizer give me a full-quality full screen image right away, as this used to be the case in PSE10 and before?
(I have both versions, PSE 11 and PSE 10, now on the same computer and tested this to confirm that the PSE 11 initial full screen view is of lower quality than the PSE 10 one. Also in PSE 10, there is practically no delay for displaying the "100%" view afterwards, indicating that the image was loaded with full detail right away.)

    - Update:
    * Adobe's senior support level has replied to me about this issue as follows:
    "Thank you for contacting Adobe.
When you press the F11 button, Organizer 11 uses the Bicubic
interpolation mainly because it is less processor intensive compared to
Bicubic Sharper, and it helps to create the preview on the fly, rather
than based on the thumbnail cache.
When you zoom out from the 100% view, Elements Organizer uses Bicubic
Sharper. This is because Bicubic Sharper is used for image reduction, so
if the 100% view is larger than the available screen space, it will need
to shrink. The Bicubic Sharper images may look more crisp however, Like
any sharpening algorithm, Bicubic Sharper introduces halos and
edge-enhancement artifacts. Those halos are typically slight, but any
further sharpening (which you'll need when preparing an image for print,
for example) will exaggerate them. This is expected behavior. The
Organizer isn't great for determining exact quality, I recommend you to
use Elements Editor for this purpose.
    Thank you,
    Bobby Johnson,
    Adobe Technical Support."
    * My reply on this to Adobe is:
    "Hello Bobby,
thank you for your reply. Now at least we are talking about the same thing.
Why I am wondering about the choice to use the "Bicubic" algorithm when pressing F11 in PSE 11 is that all previous versions of PSE that I owned (which spans from PSE 6 to PSE 10) did use the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm right away when pressing F11. So apparently Adobe didn't worry about processor intensity of this algorithm then, and computers are getting all the time more powerful.
It is true that in some situations, the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may introduce halos and edge-enhancement artifacts, as you write. On the other hand, especially on smaller resolution screens, the results of the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may look more crisp and lively, while the ones of the "Bicubic" algorithm may look more flat and lack fine detail. This is not only my personal opinion, but as I have brought up this topic in several forums, I can see that I am not alone here.
So assuming that the question about preferring "Bicubic Sharper" or "Bicubic" as a default algorithm when pressing F11 is partly a matter of taste, and partly a matter of the hardware the user has available, why can Abobe not give the user an option to choose which one he/she would prefer? For instance, F11 gives full screen view with "Bicubic" applied, and CTRL+F11 with "Bicubic sharper"? Or make this an option in the preferences?
As I am using the PSE organizer also to present pictures to other people (and I know many people who use it that way too), I would like to show them my pictures as sharp and detail-rich as possible. Therefore, I would highly appreciate an option as described above to be implemented in the PSE 11 organizer via an update. It should be fairly easy from a programming point of view, since both algorithms are already contained in the program anyway."
    * If you support this suggestion of mine as stated above, please also contact Adobe accordingly! The more support requests they get for this, the more likely it is that they will implement this update! You may mention my case number 0184046323 for reference.

  • 7.4 changed my full screen view of videos

I updated to iTunes 7.4 this morning after realizing most of the new features are useless to me who has no iPod or iPhone, but I did see mention of full screen support (and couldn't remember if that was new or not.)
I played a couple of videos going from command-0 to command-3 and then command-F and back again, getting inconsistent results (ending up with command-F giving me a small video view in an entirely black background.
Not only that, the thumbnail for one of my videos, changed from its former image to a solid green screen, (although the video still plays when clicked on.)
I went back to my daughter's PC with iTunes 7.3.2.6 and noted that I have complete control of the same videos from the command-0 setting all the way to command-F (full screen view) and back and forth without weirdness.
Anyone else note similar quirks with 7.4 full screen support?

Well, I have solved part of my problem - in Preferences>Playback, I changed "Play movies and TV shows" and "Play music videos" to "in a separate window" and the sizing issue seems to have settled down. Command-F seems to have a toggle action.
Choosing Command-0, command-1, command-2, command-3 steps up from smallest size to "fit to screen" size and then command-F takes you to full screen mode. but hitting command-F again then takes you back to "double size (command-2) although the menu shows View>Fit to screen command-3 as selected. Weird.
Choosing one of the other selections, say double size (command-2) repeatedly just sets that size on the first attempt and then on later repeats of command-2 it just flashed the "View" menu item without toggling to another size (and continues to display View>Double size command-2 as it should.
So the remaining question I guess is how to get my thumbnail view back from the green screen. How is that image selected anyway? It doesn't appear to be the first frame of the video necessarily.
And here I am back later editing this after reading the iTunes Help stuff. I fixed this by control-clicking on the frame I liked and then selecting "Set Poster Frame" from the dropdown.
So overall, not much to complain about other than the weirdness with video sizing and command-F
