Resolution when editing in PS CS3

Hi,
Is there a way to change the resolution to 300 ppi from 240 when I choose "edit in PS CS3"? I can do this when I choose export, but I can't find it for the edit option.
I need 300 ppi res images for printing files and want to do final edits in PS.
Thanks
Anne

All this does is "tag" the image file with a number. The actual resolution (the number of pixels per inch) is only relevent when sending an image to be printed at (for instance) a Photo Lab - and only then if they insist on the fle being 300ppi.
When printing to your inkjet (from Photoshop or Lightroom) all you need to be aware of is that the resolution at the finished size is between 150 and 480ppi.
Interpolating an image - by that I mean upsizing or downsizing by altering the actual pixel dimensions - will almost always cause image degradation due to the fact all the original pixels are replaced by new ones. Certainly it is bad practise to interpolate an image more than once. For this reason you should always leave an image at its native size until you are ready to prepare a copy of it for it's final destination.

  • Why does Lightroom color not match when editing in Photoshop CS3

I just started Using Lightroom 4, the only version of lightroom that I have used. Short version, saves me heaps of time. But I went to edit more in photoshop and noticed that the color is dramatically different. I have Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1)and the color space is ProPhoto to match lightroom. If I make edits in lightroom, say removing dust spots, it shows in the photoshop version. It seems that on the shadow side is where it really shows. My workflow would be to import as original RAW in lightroom 4 (canon 1d mark II) and go about editing. Right click to edit in Photoshop CS3, and this is where colors go crazy. Then if I save the file with no edits done in Photoshop and compare side by side in lightroom, they are completely different. What is causing the drastic difference?
These are screenshots where in the left screenshot the original image is the dark image and the lighter is what it looks like when opened in Photoshop. The compare in lightroom on the right screenshot is what it looks like when I saved the file from Photoshop. So how does opening in Photoshop, then hitting save change the image? If i make the edit in lightroom then export the jpeg and open in photoshop, I get the appropriate color, exactly the same as my original lightroom raw.
My external editor settings in lightroom are tiff, prophoto colorspace.
photoshop preferences are to preserve embedded profiles.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, when you "Edit in" Photoshop CS3, it should give a warning dialog that says the version of ACR in Photoshop isn't compability, with the option "Open anyway" (won't work well) or "Render in Lightroom" (which should be fine).  Or, if you've created your own "Edit in" preset, you should get the option "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments".
So long as you've chosen "Render in Lightroom" or "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" (depending on how you've edit up "Edit in...") then colour should be OK.
Colour options in PS should be something like:
Check all the "Ask when..." options, just to make sure you get warned of mis-matches.  And I suggest the RGB policy should be "preserve...".
And the final thing: to be sure of no colour mis-match, you need a calibrated/profiled monitor (with a hardware tool like Spyder, ColorMunki, Eye-One etc).  When there isn't a monitor profile containing a colour space (which needs a hardware tool, generally) then different programs can make different assumptions and display the same image differently.

when editing with photographs does anyone a trick on how to keep it at it's highest resolution for output to HiDef DVD

Problem: When you try to Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS3 doesn't open, or after Photoshop opens, you see the error message, "Photoshop could not be launched".
This issue is currently being investigated. At present, there are two possible areas that might be causing this issue. Corrupted metadata or a corrupted catalog, or Photoshop CS3 has not been updated to 10.0.1, or the update did not apply correctly to the application.

  • Time cursor 'jumps about' when setting edit points in CS3.2

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this:
Yesterday when editing a short sequence the source window timeline indicator kept bouncing around when I set in or out points. Here's the procedure I went through:
    1. Dragged source clip to source window.
    2. Hit space bar, then 'I' to mark in point whilst clip playing, and 'O' for out point whilst clip playing, then space bar or K to stop.
    3. Dragged clip to timeline. (Alls well to this point)
    4. Highlight source window and hit space bar to begin playing clip again to take a second section, hit I to mark an in point and here's where everything goes wrong. The clip doesn't continue playing, it stops. The in point has been marked correctly but the timeline indicator has bounced miles away from where the clip stopped, either forward or back in time, and apparently by a random amount. The one consistent thing was everytime I dragged a new clip to the source window, the first time I marked an In or Out, the clip would behave, it's on the second time of marking from the same source clip problems started.
Anyone experienced this or have solutions?

  • Edit in Photoshop CS3 Issue

I have one computer where if I do "edit in Photoshop CS3," the file opens in Photoshop and the file name shows as a <image#>.CR2.  I can then save it as a jpg or whatever, and the added file shows up in my Lightroom catalog.  Perfect!!<br /><br />On my other computer, when I go through the same steps the file opens in Photoshop as <image#>-Edit.Tif.  And not only does it open this way (-Edit.Tif), but it automatically saves this image on the hard drive and adds it to the catalog regardless of whether I proceed to save in Photoshop or not.  This is driving me crazy, because it is saving multiple files and eating up hard drive space for no good reason.<br /><br />Can anyone help?  I've checked preferences, etc. 100 times but must be missing something.<br /><br />My "Edit in CS3" preferences are TIFF, sRGB, 8 bits, 250 resolution.  The "Edit Externally File Naming:" at the bottom of the Preferences page has "Custom Name" beside Template and nothing in the Custom Text line.<br /><br />Help!<br /><br />Thanks - Mark

Lee Jay, I want the 2nd to do the exact thing the first does. As best I can tell, I have them setup identical and the first computer is not doing creating/saving files with a -Edit.tif in the file name.
In any event, my bottom line is I want to choose "Edit in Photoshop CS3", have the file open in CS3 ready to edit, but not create a new file on my hard drive with a "-Edit" in the file name. I don't want anything automatically saved on my hard drive until I choose to save in CS3, and will likely save as a .jpg.
So how can I accomplish this?
Apologies for any confusion trying to explain this.

  • Lightroom and using the Edit in Photoshop CS3 Options

Today, I installed Lightroom v1.1 and Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1 I have an issue...Using Lightroom, I import a photo (JPG) into LR Library. Then, I right-click the photo and select the option to Edit In Photoshop CS3. This opens a window within Lightroom and there are three available options concerning What to Edit. Two Options reference Edit a Copy and One Option references Edit the Original. The two referencing Editing a Copy always says Lightroom cannot prepare the file for editing and that the file cannot be opened. If I select the last option to Edit the Original, that photo is brought into PS CS3 for Editing.
This is also the situation with files TIFF and PSD.
This is also the situation if I use a different Photo Editor other than PS CS3.
I have read the user manual and if I read correctly, the Two Options which do not work should also work. Or does my thinking need correction?
I would appreciate someone helping me with the understanding of this issue.
    Thanks.
    James

Thanks to you both. I do appreciate your responses. Please keep them coming.
I think Judith has a point.
I believe I should be able to Import a JPG from somewhere (HD, Floppy Drive, CD Drive)into the LR Library and then call upon Photoshop CS3 to Edit that JPG. If I am not incorrect, when reading the Lightroom Documentation, I see where this action is supported.
The action is: Right-Click a JPG (also TIF and PSD as well) in the LR Libary. From the menu presented, select Edit in the Adobe Photoshop CS3. A new Window appears from which to select either of two Edit a Copy Actions (with LR adjustments or without LR adjustments), I alway receive a Warning Window saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Pictures\photo.JPG (or TIF or PSD) for editing. It will not be opened.
If I select Edit the Original, the photo is brought into CS3 for editing. This selection is the only one which work. I wish to point out that the Copy File Options are grayed-out with the Edit Original Selection. And, the Copy File Options are NOT Grayed-out with Copy Options.
In summary, if Copy File Options available, the JPG (or TIF or PSD) will not be prepared by Lighrooom for editing in CS3. My Copy File Options show TIFF and PSD pnly; no JPG. If I read correctly, I cannot Copy a JPG for editing into CS3. What I do not understand is if I have a TIFF or PSD in the Library, the Copy Option still fails to execute. The point John has made about RAW requires me to look into that aspect. I need to know more about that.
Can anyone right-click a JPG in the LR Libary. Then select Edit in CS3. Then use either of the two Copy Functions Selections for the action of that JPG being prepared by LR and brought into CS3 for editing?
This action will not work for me.
I do plan to update my version soon.
All replys and suggestions are welcomed.
    Regards,
    James

  • Can't edit text in CS3 design view

    Hi,
I have a big absolutely positioned DIV tag in most of my
pages, practically the whole page content is inside it.
In DW CS3 design view very often (maybe 50% of all times) if
I click inside it to edit the text, DW selects the entire DIV tag.
The cursor becomes like a cross with arrows, the DIV border becomes
outlined with a thick blue line, and I can't edit the text no
matter how much times I click. If I move the mouse with left button
pressed, this moves the DIV and changes the .css file where the
position is defined. DIV can't be de-selected with Escape, left or
    right clicking.
The only way to get out of this is to click somewhere in the
code view, then go back to design view where hopefully text can be
edited. Sometimes I have to repeat this twice or even 3 times ,
it's extremely annoying and time consuming.
    Is there any workaround?
Like to disable selection of containers in design view, or at
least a quick way to deselect the current selection?
This problem does not appear in DW8 when editing the same
    files.
    thanks

    Nasty. Why?
Do you have an overflow style on this div?

  • Color Cast Only On Mac Generated jpg files When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 Preview

    Hi,
( Issue With Cs3 Bridge Viewing Jpgs - Getting Colour Cast on the Mac Generated Jpgs Files Only When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 On PC )
Using  CS3 creative suite Mac & PC and viewing all files on the PC.
We have  psd files when viewing in bridge they are  ok and save jpgs via PS3 both on the Mac & PC off the same PSD file that we started with.
But when viewing these jpg files in bridge we get a red cast only when viewing from the Mac generated files from the same PSD we started with.
When we open the jpg files up in Photoshop all of them are ok we no issues only when viewing in bridge we get the red cast.
All PSD files have the same information content:
    Bit depth
    Colour space
    Pixel size
Why are we getting this happening.
    Thnx

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!

  • "Edit in PS-CS3" not working

Since I installed LR2/2.1, when trying a "Edit in PS-CS3" on a CR2 raw image, PSCS3 opens up, but with the "Open as" window dialog opened up, instead of the image. JPG´s and PSD files behave correctly, though. If I do go ahead and locate the file on the "Open as" dialog, and complete the PS edit, and then "Save", LR doesn´t notice it, and I need to "Import" the new PSD file onto LR. Obviously, LR and PS are not talking to each other.
Tried exporting to 8-bit, and also tried completely uninstalling and re-installing both PSCS3 and LR2.1, with no success. Adobe tech. support couldn´t help either. This is a most annoying bug.
Tried on LR 2 & 2.1. PS is 10.0.1, ACR is 4.5, on a Vista desktop.

Ah, OK so I assume the admin account works, the other doesn't? Have to say I'm not savvy enough to understand what Photoshop/LR need in terms of items in the main account to make this all work. I might have to try that test on this end as I have two accounts too. I use the 2nd for trouble shooting. I suspect the primary account has something, somewhere in the user Library installed by Adobe that is accessed where it might not be in account #2.
If one account works, the other doesn't, we have to pinpoint what files are missing from the account that doesn't work.

  • LR 2.1RC - Still No Dialog Box w/ "Edit in Photoshop CS3" Option

I downloaded Lightroom 2.1RC today and installed it with reserved enthusiasm, hoping that I could finally get the options popup box to display when I choose "Edit in Photoshop CS3" after right clicking a photo. I still have the same problem I did w/ 2.0: after right clicking a photo as mentioned above, specifically a RAW file, and choosing "Edit in Photoshop CS3" from the popup box that appears, instead of getting the options list where you can choose whether to open a copy of the file with lightroom adjustments, etc. it just exports the raw file directly to photoshop without converting it to my chosen format of psd. I've also tried setting the conversion file format to tiff and this didn't work either. I get an image on the photoshop desktop that has the .cr2 file extension appended to it. Apparently no conversion was done by lightroom. I'm running the following:
    Pentium 4 3.0 GHz
    WinXP SP2
    4 GB RAM

Thanks for your quick reply, Jeff. If I understand your explanation, what I'm experiencing sounds like expected normal behavior. However, that doesn't explain why the options box comes back when I choose Photoshop as an additional editor and go that route.
I remember getting the options dialogue box when I chose "edit in Photoshop CS3" in Lightroom 1.4.1. Have they changed the process used to send an image to Photoshop from Lightroom in v2.0?
I did happen to pull up a post from another user who was having the same issues I describe here and this is the response he got:
"KED, this is fixed with PSCS4, due out soon. CS4 was the first to have such integration and to get it the provided 10.0.1, So it is an evolving dance between the two. This is a CS thing, not a LR one. PSCS, needs the right hooks for the pass off to happen, AFAIK, and the come more completely with CS4!
    Don"
Sounds like the issue may lie on Photoshop's side of things?

  • Lightroom - edit in Photoshop CS3 problem

    Hi All,
I'm running Lightroom 2 on a MacPro. When I first installed it all was fine with 'edit in' function, which I had configured to PS CS3 my primary external editor. Later, as a test, I added an additional editor - Photomatix - just as a test more than anything else. I subsequently noticed that when I then tried to edit in CS3, still set as my primary editor, I was no longer shown the 'edit options' window i.e. 'Edit a copy with LR adjustments', 'edit a copy', edit original'. Instead, the original file would open directly in PS with none of my LR adjustments! I have now had to set CS3 also as my additional editor to get around this - when set as additional it shows the prompt.
Does anyone have any ideas about this behavior and how to reset LR so that it will prompt me again when I try to edit in my primary editor? I'm guessing this must be a bug with the current version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
    Dave

    >Dabow:They are all RAW files that I'm sending. The fact that I also have PS set as my secondary editor and from there it prompts me with the edit options window proves that it's a fault with the primary editor slot.
The primary editor slot is designed to behave differently than the secondary editor slot. From everything you have said it appears to be acting exactly as designed.
The primary editor slot, which is always photoshop.exe, is designed to send RAW files directly to Photoshop after applying the develop adjustments made in LR2x. Thomas Knoll said it best in another thread discussing this exact same issue:
Thomas Knoll, "LR 2.1RC - Still No Dialog Box w/ "Edit in Photoshop CS3" Option" #3, 26 Sep 2008 7:19 am
When you use the secondary editor slot, even if you select Photoshop.exe, those special hooks built for use with Photoshop.exe will not be used and this is by design. By placing Photoshop.exe into the secondary editor then you guarantee the old, i.e. LR1x, method of accessing an editor is used. That 'old' method activates the options dialog.
    To sum it up:
*RAW via Primary Editor slot (always Photoshop.exe) = no options dialog.
*RAW via Secondary Editor slot (even if it's Photoshop.exe) = options dialog.
*non-RAW via any editor slot = options box

  • Auto Label and or Automoving LR files to Subfolder when Editing in Photoshop

LR is great, but after using it for a while i miss a few things very much indeed and other colleagues back me up on this.
It would be great to give the user an option to add a label to a photo when editing in Photoshop or other external application
And also give the user an option to make a standard subfolder for the edited file.
    "Example"
I import all raw files into a dated folder ex. 2007-09-20.
Then i rate the files i like and filter them.
Then i do the raw editing and then i finally open them into photoshop CS3.
Here it would be great that the edited file automatically gets a yellow label and/or is put into a subfolder of 2007-09-20. This subfolder i typically would name FINAL.
I know this would be troublesome due to the Stacking feature in LR, which is nice but i don't use it. So my requested features should only be enabled if i choose not to Stack my files.

    That's how it goes.

  • Why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor -- it is huge and unusable

why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor? -- it is huge and unusable

    Many mysteries...
Which is your OS version ?
Your screen is 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The problem appeared after having worked normally.
When we select a picture from the organizer (album) and click on the edit button.  The editor software changes the entire computer resolution from 1920 x 1080 to   640 x 480 (very unusable).
That's not clear for me: did you click on the 'Edit' button on the bottom right part of the organizer, or did you use the menu or the right click popup menu to open the editor? In the second case, you are in the editor workspace.
We tried right clicking on the Elements 13 icon, select properties and under compatibility we made sure that "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" was de-selected, and it was.    Cannot find any properties window for the editor?
The editor has its properties in the 'Edit/preferences' menu, but there is nothing about resolution there.
Just to be sure : when you are in the organizer with the left 'Folders' panel shown, you highlight one of those pictures to edit. Then you right click and choose to "go to folder". Do the images are shown as 'offline' ? If that is the case, the original are on an external drive which is not connected, and what you are seeing is a 'preview' copy on your computer with 640 x 480 resolution.
