  • Thunderbolt port is heat/hot with VGA Adapter - Led TV

    Hello guys
I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch, not retina display.
I bought almost 1.5 year ago the VGA adapter, it works through the Thunderbolt port.
I used to work with a monitor of 15.6 inch, how a secondary screen to watch webinars, video, programming etc...
Just some weeks ago I bought a Led TV 42 inch
I did realise that after some hours, 2-4 the left part of the Mac, where the thunderbold port is located, is heat/hot, more than the ususal, this behavior never happened with the previous small monitor..
It is normal? The fan do not emit a special sound indicating they are working...it is always quite silent since the first day I bought the Mac..
I remember a day when I did an upgrade of the OSX from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 that when the Mac has restarted the fan did a strong sound how indicating or testing themselves
What I should do?. Should I ignore the heat or I should work with this software smcFanControl, popular according with Google when I did a research to let me change explicitly the fan speed.
Thanks in advance by your support.

How hot is hot?  Install istat menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
When your MBP gets hot, open the application and take a screen shot of the temperatures and fan speeds.  Post for inspection.
    Ciao.

  • Any issues connecting the new MacBook to LCD projector with VGA adapter?

I do presentations on the road using my old MacBook with whatever LCD I find when I get there. I run Keynote with lots of video clips in my presentations. I carry a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter. Most often it works fine.
I was hoping to update to the new MacBook, but I'm concerned about the display issues on the discussion board.
Has anyone had any experience connecting the new MacBook using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter?

I received my MB (aluminium) 2.0 in early November, but only this week (2nd week December) have had a need to use it for a presentation via the Mini DisplayPort --> VGA adapter.
I thought I could use it just as I did my previous (white 1.83 MacBook) laptop, but this one is a bit quirkier. Plugging in the adapter cable results in a system freeze. Unplugging the cable will restore mouse control (unfreezing the computer) in most instances, but not all.
Turns out that in order to use an external VGA connection, I need to have the adapter plugged in and restart the machine. If the external display is not present from boot, then it freezes.
This is unlike my previous MacBook, in which I could plug-unplug willy-nilly. The screen would flash blue a couple of times and all would be fine, with the external extended display detected and functioning. This was one of those nice "Mac" things that my Windows-using colleagues were somewhat jealous of, as they constantly have trouble getting their laptops to recognize the LCD projector.
Sadly, it looks like I'm now living in their world...

  • External Display only with VGA Adapter working

Hello, I'm german so sorry for my bad english
After updating to Leopard 10.5.2 and installation of the Leopard Graphic Update, my external Display isn't working with DVI anymore. If I plug it in, my desktop flashes and I also get the monitor information tab of my external Display (Name and Settings correct). But the Screen stays black as in power saving mode. If I use the DVI -> VGA Adapter, everything works fine...
Could that Problem be realted to the new Updates?
I've also checked every hint of that Forum (PRAM reset, deleting Preference Files, trying to boot with closed MBP, ...), nothing worked for me. The Problem also occurs in Bootcamp! The external Display is recognized fine, but will not display any image, only if I use the Adapter.

According to Apple support, it is "expected behaviour" under Lion for the MBP's internal display to reactivate upon opening the lid, even if you want to use only your external display. A new version of the clamshell mode-related knowledgebase article (replacing HT3131) is due shortly confirming this.
    This is despite:
    - the obvious temperature-related benefits that were achievable (under Snow Leopard) by opening your MBP lid whilst continuing to output solely to a 27" cinema display
    - the waste of energy and inefficient use of graphics processing power in needlessly running two active screens (ie if running your MBP in clamshell mode would otherwise make it too hot and/or noisy)
    - the negative longer-term impact on the battery and other components from running the MBP hotter than it needs to be.
If you would like to have the previous behaviour restored, please consider lobbying Apple to change how Lion handles clamshell mode. Options available to Apple include changing Lion's expected behaviour or adding a user-selectable option within System Preferences.
    Feedback should be submitted here:

    Hi Guys,
Checked the mini display with Dell flat monitor and Samsung LCD tv , works perfect. The VGA port of my old monitor is not in good condition.

  • IPad with VGA Adapter Problems

Does any one have any clue how to get the ipad to transmit video when hooked up to VGA (via its adapter). Yes all connections were fine, in keynote and presentation in play mode. Help urgently needed! THanks!!

    Hi Guys,
I don't know if someone mentioned this before but if you watch the iPad launch video of Steve Jobs' presentation it sure looked like he was mirroring his screen during the presentation.......I think that is why so many of us believed that the iPad WOULD be functioning the same way in are hands.
Sooooo either Steve and crew orchestrated a hoax by simulating a screen mirror functionality (which I do not believe) OR that functionality IS available and will be part of an OS upgrade in the future. I know, I know...if that were true why not just make the mirror capability immediately available? Who knows, but watching Jobs use the iPad on stage made me believe we could do the same.
I tried to use mine today with little luck. I hooked it up to a digital projector. I have successfully used this projector with my MACBook Air in the past. When I plugged in my iPad and turned it on the projector showed NO sign of recognizing my iPad. I opened Keynote to my slide presentation, still NO response. I re-checked the cable, still NO response. I exited Keynote; HOWEVER, I don't believe that I ever tried the full screen presentation mode so it may have worked. I will Try it again.
I then tried to play some movies. I had movies I ripped as well as iTunes downloaded movies. I first tried a movie I ripped.....amazingly the projector recognized something was attached for the first time and started playing the movie! Then I tried The Matrix (downloaded from iTunes). The projector would ONLY show a still from the movie and a message appeared on my iPad screen stating
"This machine is not authorized to play this content"
When I disconnected the cable the movie was able to play on my iPad....reconnect the VGA....the movie froze and the message reappeared.
I also agree that the connector is not that stable. Older iPod cables used to 'lock' in place and needed you to depress two buttons on the cable to remove it. That would be very handy here BUT it would increase the risk of damaging the unit if the cable were kicked.
    Thanks
    Joe

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.

  • Connection to external display does not work under windows bootcamp, with a thunderbolt to vga adapter.

Hello guys, after searching a lot in the forum for an answer to this, I could not find a solution so this is the reason for this post.
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011 I think) running MacOSX Lion and I have installed Windows 7 64-bit through bootcamp (version 4.0).
Everything works fine except that I cannot connect my external display through my thunderbolt-vga adapter.
The external monitor shows only the boot screen of windows (the one with the windows logo) and then, when I get into the login page it goes blank.
After reading the forum, I have done several things in order to fix this problem such as:
Restarting the macbook with the thunderbolt device connected to it.
Updated to the latest ATI drivers through bootcamp.
Removed the graphics driver and re-install it again.
I have tried to identify the external monitor through windows 'screen resolution' tool (attached photo).
    but still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea on what else I could do in order to fix this? By the way, I find it very frustrating that Apple does not have a stable solution to the problem with devices that are connected to the thunderbolt port.
    Thank you in advance

and here is the attached screenshot

  • I have a macbook pro with lion os. and i want to connect it to my optoma dlp projector. when i connect through a mini display to vga adapter in MBP it detects as OPTOMA XGA but no image on the screen.

i have a macbook pro. i want to connect it to projector and i have a minidisplay to vga adapter. i could connect my MBP to benq projector successfully and for  all other displays( Monitors). but when i connect it to optoma projector, MBP detects the display as OPTOMA XGA but nothing on bigger screen. i tried changing the resolution and refresh rate also but no changes.
In my office we got benq projectors , for that it is working very well.(plug and play).
and also i want to say that there is no problem with the optoma projector seems, because all other windows laptops are working well with that.
i was struggling with this since one month. i googled it could not find anything supportive for my problem. please help me regarding this. i am new to apple. i hope there must be genius around here.

I need to know which MacBook Pro you have.  Only mid-2010  and later MBP's transmit sound through MiniDisplay Port to HDMI.  I have no information about the Mac Pro, so you might want to go to that Forum and ask there.

  • Mac mini 2009 . Mini DVI - VGA adapter with Monitor LG L1953S . No sleep .

    Hi ..
Yesterday i started in the fabulous world of MAC with my brand new MAC MINI . The problem that i have is that when the MAC mini is in stand-by the monitor is not in sleep state , and i get in the monitor screen " check cable " . So i have to disconnect manually the monitor when mac is in sleep state .
I am using mini-dvi to vga adapter (original mac ) .
    ¿What is the problem ?
    Thanks a lot ...

DVI-I provides the direct Analog signals needed to get VGA using a very simple adapter.
DsiplayPort (and its Mini variant) requires a converter to produce VGA or Dual-Link DVI, and the converter must be active/powered. There is a lot of logic in those converters. It may also have additional limitations.
In general, you should hook your highest resolution, most demanding display up with the DVI to VGA adapter. If running two Mini DisplayPort displays, ALL MiniDisplayPort converters must be active/powered.

  • Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter Having Issues with My Samsung 40" HDTV

So I ordered the brand new 15" i7 Macbook Pro along with the Apple wireless magic mouse and wireless keyboard after having bought my HDTV (went on a bit of a spree) with the intention of using the TV as a monitor for couch surfing. But, upon hooking up the adapter to the TV, my macbook's screen flickered between that blue transitionary screen and it's desktop screen. It did this for a few minutes. I jiggled the cable thinking that there was a loose connection somewhere as that was the problem with my previous mini DVI to VGA adapter from Apple. I did a little research and it turns out that they released a firmware update in 2009 for such a problem. I downloaded the update and attempted to install it but it did not determine that there was even an adapter connected. So, I proceeded to call Apple, they man was very calming to talk to and make all of my problems seem to melt away, but there were no solutions reached. He thought that maybe my TV either had a problem or was incompatible with the adapter (incompatible with a VGA connection? can you get any more analoge that that?). So, here I am, the adapter seems not to have a problem with regular monitors but I am still experiencing intermittent disconnects from my TV. I still, superstitiously jiggle the connection whenever I have dropouts but that really doesn't seem to be the issue here (or at least I hope not because that could mean port issues with my new laptop). Any suggestions? I noticed, after changing some settings on my TV, in an attempt to remedy this, that the TV was displaying the picture funny, I turned the TV off and then on again and it fixed the problem. That being said, perhaps I just need to turn my TV completely off when I'm not using it, as I have been just letting it go into standby. Maybe it needs a restart every so often much like my computer. I don't currently have data to support that theory as I just recently tried turning it off, but, since then have not had dropouts.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.
