Resolutions: download thru Apple TV vs download thru Macbook

(1) Does anyone know is there a difference in resolutions for movie files that are downloaded directly from Apple TV versus files that are downloaded from Macbook and sync into Apple TV? One thing I do realize that Apple TV does offer HD formats to some of the files too which is not available when using a macbook.
(2) I tried to rip a DVD into MP4 files for my Apple TV in 640*480 format which is consistent with the files downloaded from iTunes Store thru the Macbook, however, the MP4 file cannot be sync into my iphone or ipod touch for some reason.
Please assist me in the above issues.

Playable formats from Apple TV specs:
* H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
* iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels, 640 by 480 pixels, 720 by 480 pixels (anamorphic) or high-definition 720p
* MPEG-4: up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
The problem you have I suspect is that you're converting to MPEG-4 rather than the h.264 variant.
I had a TV recording in PAL format (576 lines) I tried to convert to MP4 for speed and it wouldn't play, while h264 would though encoding is far slower.

  • How can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3

Does anyone know how can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3. Thanks.

    Sean and Andy -
I have to agree with Andy here. I am having the same problem on a mid 2010 MBP (6,2). I have already read the AHT info provided by Sean's link, and they are less than helpful. I'm sure they will be helpful to those who find that they work, but they are confusing if this is not the case. For example, my MBP(6,2) came with ONE (not two) installation disks, so the instructions don't work for me. Another issue is the instructions confound the descriptions related to the MBP, the original (delivered) software (OS X version), and the current installed OS X upgrade software.
So here's what does NOT work for me...
         (A) I cannot install 'Disk 2', since I never received this with my original (new) purchase in mid 2010.
         (B) I have checked my firmware versions and they are all up to date, as per Apple's information.
         (C) As suggested in another thread, I looked for /Library/Core Services/.diagnostics and it was NOT present. I followed his instructions, downloaded the correct (I believe) dmg, and installed it. It is in the correct place, and I can see all the invisible files using Pathfinder.
         (D) When I re-start holding down the D key (immediately), it just goes through the normal boot routine; no evidence of AHT.
(E.1) When I re-start holding down OPT-D, I get a spinning globe, and then it prompts me for a network (wi-fi) connection.
(E.2) For some unknown reason, the prompt identifies between 2 and 5 of my --neighbors'--  routers, but does not show mine. (??!!)
(E.3) The routers are listed alphabetically; however, my router SHOULD be at the top of the list by this criterion, but it is nowhere to be seen.
(E.4) The 'internet recovery' process then allows me to enter a network name AND password. I do this, for my current wi-fi router, and the process rejects it as an incorrect login ID. It is NOT an incorrect login ID!
So, now asking Sean and Andy (or anyone else) for further suggestions... ???  As Andy suggested, many people ask questions here because they have -already- worked through the 'official' recommendations, and have found them to be inadequate.
Any advice would be appreciated!  TIA.
    Ed

Apple replaced my hard drive (macbook pro 2011). Now I am unable to buy/download ilife from the apple store "on this computer". Any ideas as to why?
Thanks for your help in advance!

If the computer shipped with Snow Leopard then you would have received an install DVD for iLife with the computer.

  • Where can I download a macbook pro install dvd for my Macbook pro 2.2 because i lost mine...

Where can I download a macbook pro install dvd for my Macbook pro 2.2 because i lost mine...

I don't think you can actually download the install DVD. If you call Apple they can send you the install DVD for a nominal fee +S&H. You will need to provide them with the serial number for your Mac to see if it's registered to you.

Make sure that you are signed into the correct ID in Setting>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID. If you use iTunes Match, you have to disable it on the iPad before you can sync your music.

  • CAN MOVIES BE DOWNLOADED TO MACBOOK FROM MACBOOK SUPERDRIVE?

Can DVD's be downloaded to macbook from a macbook superdrive to keep on the computer for use without the superdrive?

If it is a recent or current movie, the existent copy protection schemes make it very difficult, not to mention illegal, as indicated. I have found it far easier just to buy boxed movie DVD's that include a digital copy download, so I can keep and watch it using iTunes.

I create my apple id from my boyfriend macbook and its says that I have to review my itunes information , when I get to the credit card number info etc. Its keep asking me for that I dont have any credit card and I dont want to put any , what should I do?

You cannot use that ID without a credit card. You did not create your account correctly. There is very specific way in which you must create your account if you do not want to use a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, you will have to start all over again.
    1. You will have to sign out of that ID before you can create a new one. Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID>Sign out.
    2. You cannot use the email address that you used for the first ID that you created. You will need to use another email address now
    3. You have to download a free app in order to start the new Apple ID process.

  • The resolution of the Adobe Acrobat is bad on MacBook retina

How can I make the resolution better?

    vinay.sujan wrote:
Is the MacBook Pro Retina display resolution of 2880-by-1800 a strain on the eyes as I understand the higher the resolution the more strainful the screen can be to the eyes?
Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • How to use my apple tv remote on my macbook?

Hello, I have an Macbook pro 15 inch retina from 2013 (model number A 1398) and I want to use my apple tv remote on my macbook. But it won't work. When I look on the internet, they say I have to go to system preference -> security and privacy and then you can find your infrared but mine don't show the infrared.
So can somebody help me to use my remote on my macbook please?

I do not believe that the newer Mac's support this. You should look at the front bezel and see if it has an IR sensor. If it does, follow the instructions here:
