Hi.
I updated my laptop today after not updating for a while and now I'm having quite a bit of trouble with gnome3.
Gnome itself loads normally at first glance. But then you begin to see things aren't quite right. The first problem is that there is no mouse cursor at all. You can see different things being highlighted when you hover over them, and you can click on things as per normal but there is no cursor.
Second problem is that if you open an application (e.g. Firefox, Terminal, VNC), it opens full screen and covers both of the panels. In addition, there are no close, minimise or maximise buttons visible any more.
The third problem is when you click the minimise to desktop button on the panel an error appears stating:
"Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager"
Things I've tried:
Rolled Dbus back to version 1.4.14 from 1.4.16 - Rebooted; No change.
Reinstalled Gnome completely - Rebooted: No change
The only error in /var/log/everything.log is:
WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start application: Failed to execute child process "volwheel" (no such file or directory)
No errors in /var/log/error.log.
Renamed .config, .gconf and .gconfd to allow new ones to be created. Started xserver. I now get the default gnome3 background and a retro style 'X' shaped cursor, but no panels load. This is probably due to gnome3 loading without fallback mode which has never worked on my laptop. If I try to re-enable fallback mode from the console using the command:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session session-name 'gnome-fallback'
I get an error outputted stating:

Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here?

/var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't seem to show the errors that i'm seeing when I type "startx" thats why I asked if there was any way to copy it.

On the screen on the iPhone does it show a usb cable pointing up to the iTunes synbol?. If it does then your iPhone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored through iTunes on a PC/Mac.
Now in terms of the data you lost, would you know if you backed it up to iTunes/iCloud?. Did you sync data with iCloud at all? e.g. contacts, calendars.

Authorization Object for Update Function Module

I have a Update Function Module and that FM should be executed based on the Authorization Object .
I had created a Auth Object with Proper roled assigned to user and i also did the following
AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT <Obj Name>
ID 'ACTVT' FIELD '38'.
If Sy-subrc EQ 0.
<Process the following>
End IF.
But the Auth Object is not working correctly like in the ebugging eventhough my role is not assigned to this Auth Object
it is giving me sy-subrc as 0 (but in my case it must be not be zero.)
Is it anything like Auth Object wont work on Update function Module or else is there any different approach we need to follow
to acheive the functionality .

[solved?] Menus not drawing after Gnome update

Running 64-bit Arch. Ever since updating to the latest Gnome, I've been having intermittent problems with menus in applications. I notice it most often in Abiword, Xchat, Gedit, and Guayadeque, but I think it effects almost all applications. When I do something that should cause a menu to appear (File, Edit... or right click), the menu randomly won't draw until I move my cursor around where it's supposed to be. I really have to, like, wiggle the cursor around in the general area to get this to work. It's not consistent at all. The same apps/menus won't work, then will (without force), then won't.
Starting a lot of applications from the terminal, I see: "Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomesegvhandler": libgnomesegvhandler.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I can't find much about what gnomesegvhandler is and I don't even know if it's related. For all I know, the error could have been happening before the update, too. It looks like it might be related to "bug buddy." I didn't have bug buddy installed before the update, and removed it afterwards. I hope bug-buddy isn't required for Gnome to function now.
I don't see any errors in the terminal when the menus fail to draw.

Just noticed this is effecting Gnome-Do as well. I bring it up and start typing and sometimes the menu won't update, and other times I can't navigate the results with the arrow keys. I'm not sure what the new Gnome/Nautilus were supposed to offer exactly. It all seems the same but with a couple minor but annoying bugs added in. Wish I could revert, but I doubt I have the old packages from when I first installed.
Also, the fix linked above didn't help (I think that pertains to an Intel issue?)

Ovi Maps 3.06 & 5800 XM. Update function worked in...

After spending hours and hours of my valuable time trying to get the update function to work in the final release of 3.06,I give up and have had to turn to this forum for help. I've encountered so many problems with moving from the beta to final release that I don't know where to start. Seems you cannot update form the 3.06 beta,you must first remove a significant number of installed files with the application manager before Ovi Suite will stop giving you a error response when trying to update to the final version from beta. This I only learnt on a forum.
The issue of why the update function no longer works as it did in the beta version has me stumped. I've tried reinstalling the phone software,set it back to it's factory settings,etc,etc,etc,. I really liked the beta update function,it worked well by indicationg the maps I had installed and could check to see if my maps were out of date. I had even used it to download a few smaller maps.
I read somewhere to try deleting some of the MapLoader files that are stored on the micro-SD card. It's possible I did not delete the correct one's as that did not help.

You have my commiserations as have "Update" working on 5800XM but not N8, although not unexpected in view of difficulty returning N8 to "out of box" state, which not an issue however with 5800XM. Ironically on N8 the application Mobile Map Loader from OVI Store http://store.ovi.com/content/77461 does work on with latest OVI Maps version, which in my situation may have introduced conflicts with "Update".
I might add that as primarily a Mac user OVI Suite is not a readily available option so would get application via:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-5800-...
If backing up to memory card I have yet to try just restoring Contacts & Messaging on newly formatted device to see if by not restoring "Settings" this resolves the issue or not.
As you mentioned it can sometimes be necessary to Go to Menu > Settings > Application mgr. > Installed apps and uninstall any of these present: Open C LIBSSL,Open C LIBSSL Patch, OVI Maps Wi-Fi/Network Positioning, PIPS Installer, Share Location Agent, Share Location, Share Location Widget, Standard C++ Library Common, Standard C++ Library Patch, Symbian OS Pipes Upgrade, Symbian OS PIPS Upgrade & Upgrade for OpenC LIBZ Support
AFAIK the only files mentioned for removal from memory card are E:\Cities + .qf file to remove all existing map data in case of corruption when changing from one map set to another upon updating.

Email functionality lost in IOS5

I lost email function for all my accounts on my IPad after ios5 upgrade. I, like a bunch of other people, am having problems with apps and new features on the iPad. iPhone is working ok but not as fast as I expected. Is apple working on an update to fix the update? :)

I connected my iPhone to my computer and sync'd it hoping that it could download my purchases from the itunes store and then put them back on to my phone but no such luck. When i look at my iphone on my computer and look at tones, they do not show up at all. However, if i click on the "On This iPhone" tab and click on "Tones" the deleted ringtones and altert tones show up...they are just grey'd out and have a dotted circle to the left of them. I also tried to go to the iTunes store on my phone and redownload them and it tells me that i have already purchased this ringtone and asks me if i want to buy it again. I press Cancel. I know when i do that with music it would usually let me redownload the song without buying it again but it wont let me with the ringtones...so how do i get them back? any help would be greatly appreicated

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

- First try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Next download the app on the computer and try to sync.
- Last, restore from backup.

Update Functional Area on Secondary Cost Element

Hi gurus,
I'm trying to update Functional Area on Secondary Cost Element. I've created a LSMW to make it but when I run the bacthinput the system give me a message in order to inform me that this changes might need a lot of time because there are several internal changes to do.
The problem is that no functional area is updating, and I'm trying with just an item and the system needs a lot of time to update just one Funcional Area, more than a hour!
So, I don't know if some of you already had the same problem or is a problem with performance of system, because in Develop System I didn't have any issue to update this information.
Is there any form to update this information than LSMS or Individual transaction?

I was trying to change it manually in KA02 and there are tasks the systems does before confirming.
This is the root cause.
"Field changes to field Functional Area lead to
complicated tests of the data involved, which
may take some time. Do you really want to change
the field online? "
There is an option to change it in background.

AFIK, it is not possible to trigger a CALL TRANSACTION for BDC update in an update function module. Yet, i jus wanna to confirm it with the xperts. what are other options for posting a BDC data in an update function module?

Try this..
Create a new RFC function module and in the function module do all the coding for the BDC and CALL TRANSACTION..
Inside the update module call the RFC function module IN BACKGROUND TASK.
I believe this should work..

[SOLVED] latest gnome update is english only

after the latest GNOME update, my GNOME is in english instead of german, although LANG in /etc/rc.conf is set to de_DE@euro and didn't change.
Any ideas?

I did that as well, but gnome (or perhaps another script that was updated) seems to set LANG always to en_US:

LANG is in rc.conf set to de_DE@euro.

Doubt in update function module

i have created an UPDATE function module with Processing type- Update Module, Start Immediate. i have handled the exceptions using Raise statement in the function module..
the call function looks as..

p_subrc = sy-subrc.
commit work.
but if the update fails, and even though the RAISE ERROR works, and update termination message is registered in SM13, i dont get the value for sy-subrc as 1 .
is it the right way..if yes please tell me how to generate an error message within the transaction..so that the user knows the update has failed..

Issues not resolved after updates to latest SP
We initially installed BO 4.0 with SP4 FP3. After that updated the installation to SP6, SP7, SP8, SP9 and SP9 patch3. We skipped SP5 as it had no issues effecting the way we work.
Now we discovered that most of the important issues for development like being able to modify merged dimensions by adding a dimension are not resolved, despite the updates which would have fixed the issue.
Any ideas?
Is it possible to install SP5 afterwards and then update again to the new SP10?

You don't need to install SP5. Latest SP you have installed, will have all the fixes of SP5.
You cannot install SP5 after installing SP9. There is no need to install aslo.
