[RESOLVED] Wireless_tools - Unable to install it from source

Hello everybody,
I just moved from ubuntu to archlinux few days ago.
So I did use the net install from isolinux because the core install was dropping me to the grub menu.
So I configured the network during the install process with dhcpcd and iwconfig wlan0 essid xxx key xxx and it did work like a charm. I noticed something btw, my desktop (where I am performing the install) haven't got the access to internet till I reboot it and put my laptop offline (to help me with archlinux wiki while installing). Weird. Like if the laptop was getting the address in place of the desktop.. .
The install completed perfectly and I rebooted.
Here are the troubles...
I started my fresh install and tried to install couple of things but I was offline. I thought I got to do the same: precising to the system my essid and the corresponding key with iwconfig.
Iwconfig: command not found.
Ok, why is that I dunno but I downloaded the wireless_tools.29 on my laptop, put it on my WD Passport USB HDD, mount it in Arch, was able to copy the directory and unpack it in my root directory. Then I run a make && make install, everything seemed ok. I still hadn't found iwconfig at this point so I followed up the instructions here: http://julp.developpez.com/linux/wg511T/
Still doesn't work.
I tried to pacman -U but it said the package is corrupted, I downloaded it again but same error...
So if someone would just give me the instructions to perform the install from those sources or from the tar.gz file properly, I'll appreciate it.
Thank you,
David
PS: I have searched the whole forum but didn't find an explanation with the source file, maybe I am wrong to go that way...

ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/core/os/i686/wi … pkg.tar.gz
Why not try downloading the above- just run a pacman -U (it's 32 bit, for the record).

Apple will not give you information about the original owner. Take it back to whoever you bought it from.

  • Install stuffs from source

I try to install mplayer from source, after it done i hit mplayer, command not found. After that i try to install tmsnc and its the same, command not found. I tried bsdsfv too, and there was an error:
    make: /usr/bin/install: Command not found
    make: *** [install] Error 127
I install these progs from source always, and it was succes always.

    1.
    [~] > pacman -Qo /bin/install
/bin/install is owned by coreutils 6.7-1
    2.
Why the hell would you want to install mplayer from source? Arch often if not always has the newest stable (sometimes even unstable ) stuff in sensible yet reasonable tuned packages. It eludes me why you would want to compile mplayer yourself. If you need to, at least use ABS.
Other than that I must ask the same question iBertus already asked: are you even running Arch? Perhaps Gentoo is more to your liking.

  • Installing Software from Source

This question might sound a little bit retarded, but I'm just starting out, so I'd appreciate a little bit of help. I'm trying to install software from source, but it does not seem to work. Or at least, not for lynx, so I'm wondering if pacman is the only way of installing software on Arch (which I pretty much doubt).
I've downloaded lynx, unarchived it, went into its directory, and typed ./configure, followed by make and make check. Everything seemed OK, as I have even got the "Welcome to Lynx!" message. So I went on and typed sudo make install, and no errors occurred. But when I tried launching it with lynx, it said the command is not found. What am I doing wrong?
Also, one more thing: when I loose the prompt, how do I get it back? I mean, like this (http://bit.ly/4tkurS)
    Thanks in advance!

XLR3204S wrote:Thing is, I'm trying to learn my way around Linux, not specifically Arch Linux. I've got lynx through pacman before, but this time I wanted to get my foot wet with installing programs from source, as, in fact, I don't need lynx at all. I'll look more into it as soon as I get other things I want to built from source.
This isn't really arch specific. Installing from source without using the package system is a bad idea(tm) on (almost) any distro. Only the method used to create a package differs.
Edit: not that you "learn GNU/Linux" by compiling anyway. The best way to learn GNU/Linux is just to use it, and to read. There are several good books on the kernel, init systems, userland basics and so on.

  • Unable to install iPhoto from App Store after Mountain Lion Upgrade

    Hi,
I've formated and installed Mountain Lion.  Unfortunately every time I try to install iPhoto from the App store it starts the download goes up to 10MB and goes to zero.  After three times it gives up and tells me that there is an error and I should try again from purchases.
This also happens with others like garage band etc.
I can use it to install others like Xcode without a problem.
    What can I do?

There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window

None taken, but ths will be much easier if you replace the optical (you'll almost certainly have to remove a drive in order to install Windows however you do it.)

  • Unable to install OSNConnector from PIA setup script

I'm trying to install the FIN/SCM PeopleSoft eProcurement application package (OSNConnector) from the PIA setup script. Per the instrucitons, I run the PIA setup (in $PS_HOME/setup/PsMpPIAInstall). When I select "Deploy additional PeopleSoft application extensions" and then check "FIN/SCM PeopleSoft eProcurement," the installation seems to complete and there are no errors generated. Per the instructions, once the install is complete, it should have deployed the following files (listed below), but none of them are present.
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\
    WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\pt\integrationgateway\listeningconnector\fscm_epo_OSNListeningConnector.class
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\
    WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\pt\integrationgatewaytargetconnector\fscm_epo_OSNTargetConnector.class
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\fscm\epo\servlet\Support\fscm_epo_EproRequestException.class
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\fscm\epo\servlet\Support\fscm_epo_ExtendXml.class
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\fscm\epo\servlet\Support\fscm_epo_EproOsnAttacher.class
    %PS_HOME%\webserv\PSDomain name\applications\peoplesoft\PSIGW\WEB-INF\classes\com\peoplesoft\fscm\epo\servlet\Support\fscm_epo_FTPClient.class
I've searched for fscm*.class and the files aren't located anywhere. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the fscm_epo_ws.ear file is in the wrong location. Per the instructions, the fscm_epo_xx.ear files are located in $PS_HOME/setup/PsMpPIAInstall/archives; but should they be in another location? I'm having the exact same problem with our WebSphere PIA and WebLogic PIA (both using the same PT and FSCM versions)
Is there a known problem with this? Does anyone have experience installing the OSN Connector on PT 8.50 / FSCM 9.1?
My environment is PeopleTools 8.50.09, FSCM 9.1r1 and I've duplicated this issue on an AIX lpar with WebSphere 7, and a RHEL server with WebLogic 10. I do have a SR open with Oracle. So far, they've suggested that the class files don't show up until after the web server is restarted. I've tried that in a few different environments with no success.
Any help and/or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Were you able to resolve this problem? I am trying to do the same thing here and we are not seeing the EAR files either. Any guidance you can give would be appreciated.

  • Unable to install Leopard from install disc

My MacBook stopped booting recently due to a "INvalid Sibling Link" error and I decided to reinstall Leopard from the installation disc. I booted using it but I get an error saying "Leopard cannot be installed on this computer."
    THe log says
    "Installation checks failed.
Installation check failures: This software cannot be installed on this computer."
Apple's help says that I need to update my firmware but my laptop came installed with Leopard. Why is it not installing now?

    Possibly:
    1. You need to reformat the hard drive.
    2. You are trying to install when an existing version is on the drive.
Before you reinstall OS X do this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the OS X installation.

  • Unable to install libkeybinder from AUR

I am trying to install a package that depends on python-keybinder and hence on libkeybinder. When I run makepkg for libkeybinder, it starts and after sometime I get the following error:
    checking for XkbQueryExtension... no
configure: error: Could not find XKB
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
    Aborting...
==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build libkeybinder.
I tried checking the pkgbuild but wasn't able to find anything. :(
    Is there a workaround?

Works for me, n00b question but do you have base-devel installed?
edit: also make sure libx11 is installed
    $ pacman -Ql libx11 | grep XkbQueryExtension
    libx11 /usr/share/man/man3/XkbQueryExtension.3.gz
edit2: That's a man page. Derp, still worth a try?

  • [SOLVED] Unable to install gpodder3 from AUR

I am a linux and arch newbie and about 3 weeks into my arch experience. I really like it so far, finding and fixing errors and getting all of my (laptop) hardware working is interesting.
One program I am having real problems to install is gpodder. This worked flawlessly for me on mint and I really enjoyed using it to sync my podcasts with my ipod nano and would love arch even more if I could get it working. I enjoy simple GUIs where using the terminal seems a bit laborious.
In the AUR there is a gpodder3 package available however when I attempt
    user@arch ~/Downloads/gpodder3 $ makepkg -s
    ==> Making package: gpodder3 3.5.1-1 (Sun 19 May 06:19:45 BST 2013)
==> WARNING: Using a PKGBUILD without a package() function is deprecated.
    ==> Checking runtime dependencies...
    ==> Installing missing dependencies...
    error: target not found: python2-mygpoclient
==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies.
All of my packages and mirrors are up-to-date using
    pacman -Syyu
I tried installing 'python2-mygpoclient' manually but no luck there either. Has anyone got gpodder on arch working under xfce?
Would anyone please help me to get this installed?

Thanks for the advice on the AUR helpers. As I am so new to Arch and linux really I think I'll stick to vanilla pacman until I feel comfortable. I have read plenty of posts and blogs decrying the use of AUR helpers for novices.
My search always starts with -Ss and then I investigate further using the ArchWiki - seems to work for me so far. Although I think I have been a bit like a kid in a candy shop and I have downloaded loads of different packages to see what they are like and now I am faced with removing some (getting back to the Arch way) and working out what their dependencies are/were. This is not a question as such just a request for your good will( I think i'll need it!) as I try to navigate the package manamgement between removing xfce and installing e17.

  • File problems installing FLAC from source

Long after executing $sudo make install, I got an error. I Googled the error (make[2]: * No rule to make target `../../src/libOggFLAC/libOggFLAC.la', needed by `test_seeking'. Stop.) and then did a find (searching the entire drive as root) and it seems that the file in the aforementioned path (libOggFLAC.la) is actually not anywhere on my computer. There are many files in the directory it should be in, but not that specific one.
Any clues? I downloaded the package with Fink, which has only ever been reliable. Weird.
Oh, and, yes: I did run ./configure, too

amicrawler - i am now on Tiger and have gcc 4.0 installed and selected.
I'll give that a shot, thanks.
