[RESOLVED] X58 Pro random reboots

Question

I'm getting random reboots, sometimes every other day, sometimes several times a day; doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I'm working on.
I upgraded power supply thinking that might be it (430 to 650 watts), but still happening.
Support suggests upgrading bios from 7.1 to 7.3 but I'm wondering if I should check other stuff 1st?
Also concerned about losing my data because I have Raid 1 and allegedly upgrading the bios will cause me to reconfigure raid and possibly lose all data.
(I have a full backup but would rather not go that route if I don't have to).

2 WD 640GB drives (raid 1)

Sony usb card reader

(haven't changed any bios/cmos settings, no overclocking)
Successfully ran intel burn test.

The system just reboots, no screen errors.
I just looked in the event log and there are multiple warnings prior to the death spiral, mostly in the 500 range.
For example,
The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
     Reason   :   Graphics subsystem resources are over-utilized.
     Diagnosis   :   A sharp degradation in Desktop Window Manager responsiveness was observed.
then,
The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
     Scenario   :   The Desktop Window Manager responsiveness has degraded.
and then,
The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
     Reason   :   Graphics subsystem resources are over-utilized.
     Diagnosis   :   A consistent degradation in frame rate for the Desktop Window Manager was observed over a period of time.
There were 1/2 dozen of these warnings and then critical (where it rebooted).
