Resolving ASA high memory issues
Hello,
I have an issue of high memory usage in my ASA5540 (85%).
in attached the result of the command (Show memory detail)
I suspect that the issue is caused by 65536.
Below the result of the command "show memory binsize 65536"
I think the issue is caused by the pc 0x092acca2, how can i decod it?
How can i resolv my problem?
Thank you for your help!

ASA High Memory utilization and random lockouts
We have 2 ASA 5520's running Active/Standby with the cable based failover. At random times perhaps once our twice a week we will get calls that RA VPN users cannot connect, RA users connect with the Cisco VPN client. Also most often during this time we cannot telnet into the "primary" ASA, but we can "usually" access it via the ASDM where we will see that the memory utilization is in the upper 90% range and perhaps as high as 98% consistently. To help temporarily solve the issue we have to telnet to the "secondary" ASA which we can usually access via telnet and perform a "failover active" which will failover the primary and make the secondary become the active and vice versus. Has anyone seen this issue. I have opened up several TAC cases and have not had much help. Thanks in advance!
Hi Brandon,
it is important to know what version are running your ASAs [ie 7.0(4)] and to collect some log, you can set it to error level (logging buffered errors), with the logging standby, so all of the message should be replicated on the standby unit.
even the show crashinfo could give you useful info.

Hi guys, I have a CAM´s failover installed. I had seen high utilization of the ram memory in the 2 appliances. The utilization is higher than 80%. Anyone knows what is the cause for this memory use?
Also, I have a NAC Profiler integrated with these CAM's.
Regards
GerardGerard,
Your system looks fine. Linux utilizes the free/unused memory to cache data, and hence the free memory reported might seem very low, but it's being used by the kernel to actively use it for caching. As/When it's needed, the kernel releases memory for the processes to use, so this is normal. If you want to look at what processes are using the most memory try this command:
ps auwwwx | awk '{print$4"\t"$11'} | sort | uniq -c | awk '{print $2" "$1" "$3}' | sort -nr
The output will show you the process with the most memory being used. For example on a test CAM here was the output of the command listed above:
14.3 1 /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12/bin/java
0.8 1 /usr/sbin/httpd.worker
0.7 1 /usr/sbin/httpd.worker
0.6 1 /usr/sbin/httpd.worker
0.6 1 postgres:
0.5 1 postgres:
0.5 1 heartbeat:
Meaning Java was taking the most memory.

IOS IPS ver 5 and high memory usage
Hi,
Is anyone else having high memory issues when using ver 5? I have installed on a 1801 with 128 M memory. It only has 4 M free now. Is there a way to reduce the active signatures? I have disbaled some but the number of active is still at 338.
Thanks,
ScottThis issue usually occurs because of a memory leak. However it cannot be said that it is due to the IPS service running whcih is causing this problem. Following links may help you

Exchange 2013 issue with High memory Usage on Mailbox server post SP1 update.
So we have been chugging along fine since Feb 2 2014.
I performed a migration from 2010 from the UK to the US doing "incremental" mailbox moves. (get in contact with me if you want to know how. But we moved 400 Mailboxes averaging at 2gb a piece from the UK to the US, over the transcontinental link.
& then the weekend of the final, had everyone & everything done by the end of the cutover weekend)
Any woot.
So I applied the 2013 SP1 a few weeks back, & have intermitantly been alerted to the memory spiking over 95%. For me (and for any exchange admin) when i get those types of alerts i drop everything & run to the nearest PC to see what is going on.
Now the first & second time, it was an issue with logs filling up the drives, & my clean log script not running to remove any logs older than 30 days. But since then it has been legitimate 95%+ memory usage.
For the most part its been 95-97 max, with 1 or 2 times hitting 98. After some time, the memory does drop back down to 94.
this is ....umm "fine" however it is becoming a nuisance, since most of the time it corrects itself. What i dont want to happen is get into the groove of saying "ah bah! its nothing" & letting it go.
the server has 16gb of memory in it, it is the Mailbox server (CAS /Frontend is on a seperate server)
below is a screen shot, so i know the Storeworker grabs whatever it feels like grabbing, however it does NOT EVER release memory. I also see the NodeRunner.exe (2 of them) is always around 900 almost a MB
now if i could somehow get the first 2 Storeworkers to drop down to 900ish, then that should alleviate my memory issues.
what I am m looking for is some type of "magic bullet" to put my memory issues at ease..thats the problem & seems to be a misconception.
Exchange NEVER releases the memory when other things need it. As the users state in your thread you linked. (i came across that early in my search for a resolution). An example is if another admin & myself log into the backend server at the same
time & begin clicking around opening things, etc..Memory will go to 100% which = No Buenos.
There are numerous post all over the internet from people who say it releases, but them 5 more comments to that 1 saying that it does not.
I know what the process's do, however it seems like the SP1 has increased memory usage, as typically the Store.exe would only grab about 900-1000.
in terms of the noderunner, once again i know its role, however we are now 2 months+ live on 2013 post migration, I do not think it is still indexing all those emails.

MSI 560GTX-Ti Hawk - Very high Memory Temp issue
Ok, I really don't want to hijack the other thread, so I'll start my own. I installed my MSI 560GTX-Ti Hawk last night, and noticed extremely high memory temps while playing Dragon Age II. Tonight, I was able to investigate this a little further, and found that my memory temps will stay consistent for a while, and then spike suddenly. For example, I had DA2 running. I was just staring at the same location (not moving in-game). I had the mem temps on the on-screen display, and would look over every few minutes. For about 20 minutes, the memory temp was locked at about 60C. Then, all of the sudden, I had a reading of 95C. I alt-tabbed out to Afterburner, and saw that there was a sudden spike.
There was no reason for this spike to occur (no voltage/clock/fan changes). However, once the temp spiked up, it didn't want to go down. After closing out the game, the temp would (VERY slowly) start to go down. After a while, the was a reverse spike, in which the temp dropped big time (opposite of how it went up). It almost seems as if the heatsink is coming out of contact with the memory after the temps have been high for a while, at which point the temps go REALLY high.
Has anybody else experienced this? I am thinking of RMAing the board since I can duplicate this consistently, and it's not just a random freak occurrence. While I haven't had any problems with corruption in-game, I am thinking it might be best to swap out the board before problems occur.

Check with another game - if it happens there as well
RMA
Haven't tried it on another game, but ran folding@home (GPU3), and it did the same thing. I think I am going to call Newegg and RMA it.

what BIOS you have? for another way
your GPU temp is too much high
check your GPU ambient with AIDA64 playing 20 minutes, if you have a high GPU ambient temp, your problem is your case
I don't know which BIOS I have. Whatever came with the card.
The GPU temp topped out at 78C. That was at stock voltages, and running Dragon Age II with max settings (DX11, and all options cranked), with the video card's fans on "Silent Mode". I don't know the card that well, so I don't know if that is normal or not. Ambient in the room was about 72F. My case is an Antec P182. I have 2x120mm exhaust fans running.
After adjusting the GPU core voltage, I could get the card down to about 71C in the same game, and the fan wouldn't spin up past 48% or so (virtually silent).
It's the memory temps that are concerning me, and it particular, the way they seem to spike all of the sudden for no reason. I think I am going to RMA it, and see if my replacement card does the same. -
Planning - Memory Issue. Help!
We are using planning and recently added approx 100 new members and some new webforms. Suddenly in planning, I cannot delete or move a member. It looks as though its processing but then nothing happens. Our internal IT checks the memory settings and sees a giant spike in CPU usage. We had this problem a year ago and Oracle recommended we update our Java Heap Settings from 1024 to 1536 which at the time resolved our issues. We are running planning on Windows 32bit.
Now we are being told that 1536 is too high and to set it to 1024. Our develompent server has not seen this memory issue so we put their new recommendations in place in development and development no longer works. I put the Heapsize back to 1536 in development and it works. For some reason production does not.
Anyone have any ideas about the Java Heapsize settings or any other recommendations?Hi Jeannette,
I agree with JG, its time to start moving towards a 64Bit OS. I would urge you to run parallel with a 63bit server, so that when your 32 bit environment starts buckling under the added pressure the newer requirments are putting on your system, you have a fail over at least.
With regard to 1536 being to high, I would +1 that too. The problem is the JVM really likes a chunk of contiguous memory, and Windows likes to eat up a chunk of memory slap dab in the middle of things - making ~1200 about the upper limit for a 32Bit JVM (perhaps by design, and I'm assuming windows because they probably wouldn't tell you to back off the heap size in U/LiNIX)
Another way to look at this is to see if you can break out some of the more complex web forms into simpler ones. Also make sure you don't have any member functions that pretty much return the better part of a dimension(e.g. @iDescendants(Entity)) only to be shrunk back to a useable size using zero supression.

My application is using high memory
Hi All,
i create application which is using high memory!
When i start application it using only 85Mb Memory but when i open any form or Report it using more Memory n its going high and high if i close Report till memory is not going down even i close all form it not going down!
Any One Can Help About this?
Hitesh PatelHi,
Testing with Visual Studio Test Manager (MTM)forum discusses Microsoft Test Management issues. Your issue is out of support range of this forum. USCGJEN72 provided some useful suggestions.
I agreed that we can check the task managers to get more information. Sometimes the computer performance may affect the Memory usage, so you can restart your PC and only start the application to release more resource.
In order to resolve this issue, if you are working with Windows Forms app, I suggest you to post your issue in a new thread on Windows Forms forum:

Question for those with memory issues on k8n neo plat
I have been having issues with my memory on the k8n neo platinum board since i built the system last month and i just recently discovered a fact I had overlooked.
I Have discovered that if i test the system while it is cool (having sat turned off overnight for example), then memtest will pass the ram just fine and the system will be stable for a short period of time, generally longer if no intensive applications are used, ie. doom3 vs. websurfing).
This system, once it heats up ( seems mostly to be the nvidia 3 nb that needs to be "hot"- that is, a probe placed in contact with the module reaches about 58+ degrees c) then the system becomes unstable and memtest, if used, fails.
Prime95, if used on it when its cool, will usually take about an hour or so to fail, but if its used on the system when its been running a bit ( temps from nb at 58c+ and memory module hot to the touch) then it fails after about 20-30 seconds.
I have placed an active hs on the nb in an attempt to correct this, but temps still remain high with failures occuring.
I have spent the better part of three days testing the sytem this way and the above facts have held true in all these tests.
I have tested at stock ratings ( not using "auto" in bios, but using "approved ratings" of 10 x 200 for fsb and timings of 2-3-3-7 for my ram at 1:1 (which is recommended as well) since i am testing for base stability at this point;Voltages have been left at auto settings, however.
I was wondering if anyone else with memory issues could try this out and post if this seems to be the case for you as well.
Perhaps the memory issues on these boards are directly related to a problem with the nvidia 3 chipset running too hot?
Does anyone have a memory issue with these boards who is using water cooling on the NB ?
Lack of issues from people using 'problem" memory, but having no failures with water cooled nb's would support my assumption.Yes i did mean chipset.
I am using a stock hs/fan from amd, which seems to run a tad hot but, considering that I wont overclock until I can get board stable, its not an issue. (runs 35-40 idle and up to 72 intensive). I need the warranty more then the extra mhz at present.
I removed the stock heatsink from the nvidia chipset and bought a generic chipset cooler (green, very little in the way of fins and seems to be aluminum) with a small fan.
I used a generic silver paste from Compusa to adhere both the cpu hs and the chipset.
I didnt lap either hs, just installed each as per instructions on artic silvers website (figured it had to go on the same way even generic).
I also bought a kingwin thermal center which i ran probes from to the cpu, case, and nb chipset.
I am not using it to adjust fans so those arent connected - its just a reference temp I can see at a glance, esp considering the funky bios reading this boards been known to give.
I assume from these responces that even a nvidia 3 250 chipset shouldnt get as hot as mine?
I asked about that from the retailer i bought this from but he seemed to think it was "ok" at 50ish celcius, but then again he didnt look too confident when he said it, lol.
Idle right now reads on Corecenter at 28 celcius for cpu and 33 celcius for the chipset, although, I have readings of 37 c and 43 c from the kingwin thermal center, which i believe to be more accurate.
My voltage reads at 11.67 for the 12v line at idle right now.
The psu i got is stick from the xblade case i bought in store. (http://www.xoxide.com/xblade2.html)
I have a dvd burner, cd drive, and two maxtor ide hd's attached to the system; The only card is the agp.
Is there a way to check and see if the cpu ispower starved? software monitor or even an external probe perhaps?
I havent put a probe on it, but the ram came in its own heatspreader, which gets very hot to the touch as well.
What temps should I be looking for on these items? -
SA520W - High memory usage, possible fix in 2.2.0 firmware?
As suggested by Thomas Watts, I'm starting a new thread to discuss the new SA520W firmware (2.2.0) and a possible resolution to high memory usage I'm experiencing on my network.
My current setup is: 16Mbit DSL > SA520W > SA300-10, all with stock settings (no fancy VLAN's etc.)
I have 4 CentOS 5/6 servers and a Windows 7 Ultimate station connected to the switch. I use CIFS to connect from Windows station to the other Linux servers and send large files. I currently notice the following behavior:
When the file transfer starts, the Intel 1Gbit NIC is nearly saturated, hitting 115MB/sec. After few seconds, the data transfer comes to a halt and the transfer speed drops to around 50MB/sec. If I check the memory usage before the file transfer, it is approximately to 50-60% (on a fresh router reboot). Every time I send large files to other machines, the router memory consumption increases and it does not lower after a reasonable delay. I end-up with high memory near 90% and the only solution I have is to reboot the router in order to bring it back to 50%.
Now, Thomas told me that this is simply a cosmetic issue, the memory is not actually 90% used. Yet, when the memory hits this threshold, I'm not capable to send files are normal LAN speeds I'm used to. Rebooting the router allows me to send only ONCE (and for few seconds) data at the expected LAN speeds.
I would apreciate any input from Cisco engineers as well other users who experience the same issue. I would also like to know if any related work was done into 2.2.0 firmware and when we expect to have it released to users.
Regards,
Floren MunteanuHi Tom,
See below the answers.
Are you currently running the 2.1.71 code?
Yes
Are you using IPS?
No, the LAN is for internal use (no external users allowed)
Are you using Protectlink services?
No
Hardware wise, I did not changed anything on machines. All boxes have dual Intel EXPI9301CT NIC's (LACP was planned) but I currently use single connections for sanity reasons (disks won't allow greater speeds anyway). Previous to Cisco, I used a Netgear ProSafe router + switch which did not encountered the issues I mention. Honestly, at first I thought I'm dealing with some stupid disk issues on Windows. So I ran a quick test and the stats are proper:
> winsat disk -drive c
> Disk Sequential 64.0 Read 109.62 MB/s 6.5
> Disk Random 16.0 Read 2.47 MB/s 4.4
> Responsiveness: Average IO Rate 2.12 ms/IO 6.9
> Responsiveness: Grouped IOs 8.34 units 7.4
> Responsiveness: Long IOs 5.59 units 7.7
> Responsiveness: Overall 46.63 units 7.1
> Responsiveness: PenaltyFactor 0.0
> Disk Sequential 64.0 Write 117.03 MB/s 6.7
> Average Read Time with Sequential Writes 6.977 ms 5.3
> Latency: 95th Percentile 32.720 ms 3.0
> Latency: Maximum 118.231 ms 7.6
> Average Read Time with Random Writes 13.346 ms 3.7
> Total Run Time 00:01:39.50
As I mentioned before, everything is pretty much stock on router/switch settings. If you have any tips that allow me to identify the cause, I would appreciate the input. What puzzles me is the speed drop and quick memory usage increase. It occurs 7-10 seconds after the transfers begins. It looks like the data transfer hangs for a very short period of time (less than half of second) and the transfer speed decreases from 110-115MB/sec to 50-60MB/sec. The transfer is completed at this speed. No matter how many other files I try to transfer after, the speed won't go higher than 60MB/sec. If I reboot the router, I get the same cycle. -
When loading a page with many hires images, Firefox becomes really slow and scrolling becomes jumpy then eventually becomes completely unresponsive. Unusual high memory usage of up to 2gigs just for firefox when loading these pages. This was never a problem with v3.6.
I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use hardware acceleration, that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!
So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy... -
WebLogic JMS high memory usage and frequent full GCs
Hi Team,
We have below set up in production (and all the lower environment).
1. WLS: 10.3.6 (64 bit)
2. Java: HP JDK 1.7.0.06 (64 bit)
3. Two Manage server instances in cluster with one Migratable target
4. one JMS server with Persistence store targeted to Migratable target
5. Messages are persisted in DB
6. about 37 distributed queues/topics are hosted on one JMS server
7. .Net JMS clients and WebLogic JMS clients connect to respective JMS distributed Queues/topics to either produce message or consume.
Since last month, we see that WebLogic Manage server hosting JMS server keeps on chewing memory "even with small (of the order of 28 messages in 4/5 days) load", GC indicates that objects are shifted from PSYoung space to ParOldGen during minor GCs but ParOldGen space keeps on filling up in smaller chunks. After x number of days (where x ranges from 5-7 days), even Full GC is not able to bring down memory significantly and that's when frequent full GCs start with long pauses making JMS highly unstable.
We don't have JMS Quotas configured but I think something else going on as it is not high on load. Any additional hints or troubleshooting steps is much appreciated?
Here is first and last GC log just to give an idea...

Regards,Thanks Luz. I have been collecting gclogs and heap dumps (whenever app server is high on memory and frequent GCs with long pauses are seen). So far heap dumps haven't revealed anything specific (may be I am not able to read heap dumps properly ) but looking at GC confirms that app server is consuming allocated heap.I was following Oracle WebLogic server support Patter as you have indicated. I thought about opening a ticket with HP but on high level JVM is doing what is suppose to do i.e allocating memory space as needed and performing GC therefore didn't go that path.
Any other suggestions that might be useful. One of the things I forgot to mention ( and I will add it to original message), that one of the .Net consumers is not asynchronously connecting to its queue (to consume messages) rather it is synchronously connects and then if it doesn't find messages it disconnects and process goes on every few seconds. I was reading somewhere that frequent JNDI look ups should be avoided. Can this cause memory issue if so then it is strange as this same set up has been there over a year and we never has problem then?

High memory use when checking downloads folder through browser
High memory use when checking downloads folder through browser.
I have a total of 3 DDR2 Gbytes of ram. Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz Win 7 home pr. 64bit. Firefox 27.0 beta
I right click on a file to "open containing folder" from the drop down menu in downloads.
When the folder has been opened, explorer is trying to index the folder (which it never does completely or well after 5 minutes I close the folder and shut down the dllhost process cause laptop is blazing hot) and memory keeps increasing till no more is available.
I checked task manager and see that dllhost is the particular process that is causing the spike in memory usage even after closing the folder I right click and stop the process and memory is restored after awhile.Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you. -
Memory issues AP3 & 10.9.1
I've been using Aperture since version 1.0 and never have I had memory issues until now.
HAs anyone come across issues with AP3 and 10.9.1
"Your system has run out of application memory" ? and shows Aperture in red (paused)?
I have 32GB ram, all SSD's and the ATI 5870 graphics card.
Any thoughts/insight/solutions?
I think I'm on the verge of just dumping Aperture and callling it a day - it's bad enough 10.9.1 is having issues with the finder. This is a known issue.
It doesn't affect everyone, and for some people is resolved by switching off on-screen proofing.
The work around for the moment is periodic restarts before the system runs out of memory. Hopefully a fix will be along shortly.

SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87
Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?

Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
AddVMOption -Xms50M
AddVMOption -Xmx384M
AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
#AddVMOption -Xmx640M
#AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.
