Resource allocation for a part time employee

Dear All,
I am using MS Project 2013 Professional Edition.
For two tasks I have been given a student assistant that will be assigned to the project from August 1st. Because of his studies he will be available all days in august (100%) and 1 day a week from September to the end of the project (20% a week).
I have created him as a work resource and defined his availability in the resource property dialogue. That is 100% in August and 20% for the following months.
Image 1. "Assign Ressources" dialogue box
At the same time I have created the two task with a duration of 18 days each.
I have now allocated the student assistant to the tasks and defined the unit to be 50% for each one of the tasks. That has extended the duration of both tasks into 36 days... so far so good.
My "problem" is now that though I have defined his availability I see that
1) MS Project 2013 allocates him from before august 1st where he is not defined as available
2) If I define August 1st as the starting date for the tasks, MS Project 2013
will allocate him every day from that date (see image 2) without respecting that he is only available 1 day a week from September
1st. (20%).
Image 2. Ressource allocation for part time employee with 2 tasks.
In both situations I will get a warning saying that he is overbooked.
I would expect MS Project to handle the information given in "Assign Ressources"
and only allocate the ressource during the time range defined... 100% in August and 20% for the following months.
Any suggestions on how to solve this or what I am interpreting/doing wrong?
Thank you in advance,
Caldes

Hi Caldes,
MS Project will not automatically level the resource workload based on the availability you defined for this resource. it will just be used to calculate weither or not the resource is overallocated.
In your case, I would suggest to use the resource usage view displaying in the right part the work and choosing the monthly time periods for the timephased grid. Then you'll be able to manually enter the quantity of work in the appropriate cells, based on
the resource availability.
Hope this helps,

  • Resource Allocation for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) Cameras in Triggered Mode

    In this article:
Resource Allocation for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) Cameras in Triggered Mode
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/ED092614FCCC900D86256D8D004A3B0C
it says "The Bytes Per Packet value represents the number of bytes that are transmitted at consistent 125us intervals on the FireWire bus during image acquisition" and the reciprocal of the 125us value would seem to be the source of a value of 8000 in a subsequent formula used to calculate the frames per second.
Is this 125us value independent from the firewire bus speed or a function of it?
If it is a function of bus speed, how does it vary with speed?
(Is the 125us value for 400Mbps and 250us for 200Mbps?)
    Thanks!

    Hello Warren
Thank you very much for getting in touch with us.  Although the Firewire standard itself is not technically supported by National Instruments, I will do my best to assist you.  I am currently referencing the IEEE 1394 documentation.  From what I'm reading, I do not believe the 125 microsecond value changes.  I have copied and pasted the paragraph of interest under Bus Arbitration from a document that I referenced:
The arbitration mechanism gets more complicated when isochronous devices are connected on the bus, because those devices have already been guaranteed bandwidth.  Each arbitration round is approximately 125μs long, so bandwidth is allocated as a portion of the 125μs interval.  The root node broadcasts (sends a message to node 63, the broadcast address) a cycle start packet, which begins the arbitration round.    All interested nodes send an arbitration request as before, and the winning node is still the node closest to the root.  After .04μs of bus idle time, the remaining nodes arbitrate for control of the bus.  Once each isochronous node has completed its transaction the time remaining in the 125μs interval is used for asynchronous transactions.  Up to 80% of the bus bandwidth may be allocated to isochronous transactions and the remaining 20% is left available for asynchronous transactions.
The original document can be found here:
The FireWire Serial Bus and its Implementation
I, unfortunately, cannot claim to be an expert on the IEEE 1394 standard but from what I've researched, the 125 microsecond time allocation is standard and bandwidth is then allocated accordingly.  I may recommend consulting IEEE 1394 Trade Association (http://www.1394ta.org/about/Contact.html) for more in depth information.  Please let me know if this is sufficient or if I can be of further assistance.  I will do everything I can to ensure that your issues is resolved.
    Have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Greg S.

  • Time [ Quota Generation for Part-time employees]

    Hi Experts,
    I need a help.  I have a following issue.
1] Whenever an employee is marked with a tick '' as Part-time], I want the quota to be generation based on the Weekly workdays [field in SAP WKWDY].
2]  I used the option of defining reduction rule by selection the radio button on the following option:
                Weekly workdays
Day by day in accrual period
                Accrual period
No reduction [defined in To Percentage and From percentage]
3]  When I execute the PT60, get an error message as "No Standard working time for key 13 5 20100501"  I am running it for the month of May2010.
Can anyone throw some light, in case I missing something.  I have earlier done configuration of Reduction Rule by using the rule 01 which has the option of Employment Pct. from Plnd Working Time Infotype. and then maintain for the employee the tick on Part-time and reduce the employment percentage.
Now the client I am working wants it based on the Weekly Work Days and these are all Salaried employees.
If anyone has faced this problem and has as solution, can you please share.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Edociana

    Hi Kathy,
Yes, i have found the solution to it. I do not know whether it will fit into your situation or not, but i got two solutions for my issue mentioned above, please check it may help:
    1) To use capacity utilization field in IT0008 to get the FTE hours and defining the reduction rule of absence quota based on the capacity utilazation percentage.
    2) There are three user exits available in the standard report RPTQTA00, i have used one of them to write my own rules for the calculations (deduction rule)
Do let me know if i can help you in any respect. Thanks.

  • Time Management - Work Schedule /Absence Quota / Part-time quota generation

    Hi Experts,
    Need your help!
We have a requirement where we need to create distinct work schedules for each irregular / part-time work pattern and the number of work patterns we have identified is more than 1000.  We are using report RPTQTA00 to generate quota. We have used work contract, employee sub-group & employee payscale group in the QUOMO feature to get the base entitlement picked up. We have defined base entitlement for the full time workschedules with 37.0 / 38.5 hours and there is a reduction rule which reduce the absence entitlement for part time employees as per the employement percentage in IT0007. Now we have a scenario where we have created a work schedule with different no of hours for each day of week (M-4, T-6, W-4, TH-6, F-4, S-OFF, SU - OFF); this work schedule is treated as full time work pattern by the system and quota is generated as full time work schedule refering to the QUOMO settings, but as per my client employees with this work schedule have reduced hours of working hours (24 hours, not 37.0 or 38.5 hours)and hence it should be treated as part-time employees, and the quota generated should be proportionately reduced. I have very limited scope to create any ESG or PSG as we do not have any distinct emplyee sub-groups maintained for full-time and part-time employees and the project has already gone-live with payroll/time. It is worth mentioning over here that we are recording absence through ESS and it takes into account the daily planned working time maintained in IT0007, so we are very particular to keep it as accurate as possible.
I would really appreciate if somebody can please suggest any possible solution for the above issue, or guide me on what would be the best way to tackle it. I can give more details in case anybody need to have a better understanding of the issue to suggest a solution.
    Thanks in advance

  • Part time employment percentage usage

    Dear Team,
Does the employment percentage in planned working time infotype 0007 mean reduction working hours. If the hours are reduced, does the pay also reduces by such percentage.
    For example.
100% employment an employee gets Rs. 1000.
If I change to employment percentage to 50%, does the employee gets Rs.500/-. How do we do this configuration.
Or any other behavior on this part-time employement.
    Thanks and Regards
    Team Member.

    HI
To mark that this employee is a part time worker please use IT0007 and IT0008. For more details, refer to note 502182, where it is explicated very well.
For example taking a part-time employee,
-> the part-time is realized by a 50% work schedule rule; the employment percentage (P0007-EMPCT), however, is 100 %. For infotype 0008 only the value of field P0007-EMPCT is relevant for the Cap.util.lvl (Form GET_DIVGV in program MP000841: MOVE P0007-EMPCT TO P0008-BSGRD.).
If you reduce the employee percentage to e.g. 50% in infotype 0007, the working hours per day/week/month/year will also be reduced accordingly in infotype 0007, and these reduced values will then become effective in IT0008 in the field P0008-DIVGV (WKHrs/period).
So, to summarize, the Cap.util.lvl is filled by the value of field P0007-EMPCT, and the WKHrs/period is filled by the value of field
P0007-MOSTD (if the periodicy is monthly). Since the value of the employment percentage (P0007-EMPCT) is 100%, the system will propose 100% in infotype 0008, and since the monthly working hours are 128,00 in infotype 0007, the system will propose 128,00 as the WKHrs/period in infotype 0008.
If you would like the system to propose 50% as well as the reduced WKHrs/period, you should work with a 100% work schedule rule and enter 50% in field "Employment percentage" in infotype 0007

  • How to find Full time & Part time positions in system.

I am trying to create a NEW HIRE using pa40. I want to first hire him as Full time(FT)  and then convert him to Part time(PT).
I understand that when I convert him to PT, I need a different PT position.
My question is how to find out the FT position number and PT position number created in the system. I want to enter the position number in IT0000
    PERSK = 01 (FT)
    PERSK = 02 (PT)
    Thanks

    Hi
I part time or full time can be defined differently depending on how each country needs to deal with full time or part time employees.
In infotype 0007(Planned Working Time), there is a flag that indicates if the employee is parttime or not.
For example, for Belgium there is a extra field Reg. workschedule in infotype 0007, that determines if the employee is full time, parttime, etc.

  • Part time LabVIEW programmer needed

    Hi All,
I am looking for a part time LabVIEW programmer to help maintain and enhance
    an existing LabVIEW application.
The company is located in Central Florida area - someone local would be most
desireable. The program is fairly complex and interfaces with proprietary

more than you would want to tackle.

    Chris;
I realize you are looking for a permanent Labview programmer, but you might find the flexibility and cost effectiveness of having a contractor working on a project basis an attractive alternative.
We are a small group of programmers who specialize in, but are definitely not limited to, LabVIEW and DAQ applications. Our model is a little unusual in that we contract through a company in Connecticut, while we are individually located throughout the country (CT, TX, AZ, CA).
Every one of us has a degree in some engineering discipline with varied levels and types of industry experience. We try to match up an engineer(s) to a particular assignment based on their expertise. They also become the point of contact for all contract negotiations.
    Generally, we tr
y to complete a project with minimal to no site visits, for two main reasons: it helps us keep the cost of a project down; given the scope of most one-time assignments, it is completely unnecessary. We have enough instrumentation and equipment to test most smaller systems. Granted, we may not own any particular instrument that you happen to be using (we won't have a $30k Tektronix logic analyzer!), but we can make special arrangements as required.
If you are interested and want further information, feel free to contact me at [email protected]
