Resource management reports

Hi,
My company just started using project online. The motivation for using project online was to be able to produce a report across all projects of available resources versus required resources.
I have set up three projects, and have started to create a resource plan for each of the three projects.
However, when I go to the reports, and click on English Reports, Resource Overview, all that shows up is all data is filtered out, and I cannot figure out why.
Can anyone help me?

Project Management and Resource Management Reporting Views

I am wondering if anyone would have and is willing to share some documentation they may have put together around reporting views related to Project Management and Resource Management modules. We are installing the projects suite and I have never done custom reporting out of these modules and would be interested in feedback or documentation anyone may have related to these or any offer of assistance or direction in designing the reporting views.

hello Tony,
What I can say. Maybe you should use SAP PPM as a operational Project Management tool and integrate it with WBS elements and projects in SAP PS. Probably it will be the best solution for you.
The second way is to use a second project structure for project management as you wrote, with different number of this project. So you will have 2 structures one for actual posting of costs and the second for rest management needs and statistical posting of costs. Probably you will need CO substitution for posting of costs to post costs on these 2 structures.
There will be many other conditions to get right solution but I think this 2 ways are possible.

Hi,
When we schedule a new job, we add a scheduled task to the c:\windows\tasks folder.
The scheduled task will contain the following command line
"c:\WINDOWS\system32\storrept.exe reports generate /scheduled /Task:"FSRM_Report_Task{GUID.......}"
There is also a folder on the system drive
C:\StorageReports\Scheduled
We Also store information in the system volume information folder in the following files:
c:\system Volume Information\SRM\Settings\ReportSettings.xml (we use .old and .alt extentions}
c:\system Volume Information\SRM\reports\reportX.xml (where X = an incrementing number set, in writing to these files, we also use .old and .alt extentions}
When experiencing issues relating to scheduled report jobs, you will want to examine these files and check for NTFS permissions issues on these locations also.
Make sure you check the volume that you will be running the report on.

Questions regarding risk register, resource pool, reports and KPI

I am going on a requirement gathering activity today about a new MS Project Server project. I have knowledge of SharePoint but my knowledge of Project Server is very limited. Following will be my topic of discussion with client. Can you please tell me what
kind of questions can I ask about them? I want to gather as much requirement as possible from client.
Some of the question I can think of are:
1. What fields will be there in each register?
2. What kind of permission do you want on each register? For e.g. will each register will be publicly viewable to all users or not?
3. How many KPIs and Dashboards do you need?

Resource Management tab: Net Availability

HI,
xRPM: Under resource management: we can see the resources and their net availablity.
Can anybody guide me: where these net availablity get stored..? (any table:where i can find the net availbility)
our client want these data as a report on excel sheet or in BI reports.

Actually the net availibility is not stored, it's calculated based on the total availibility and the staffed hours.

Oracle Resource Manager function with SAP BI7

Hi,
Have anyone considered or using Oracle Database Resource Manager (Oracle 10.2) feature for SAP BI application in your site? I dont see a single OSS hit on this feature.
We have a SAP BI system that has few power users (who can run large STAR_TRANSFORMATION queries that analyzes large volume of data) and the main user community (our sales force > 3000+ users) who can run smaller queries of such nature or queries of different types.
We want to see if there is any way we can control the resource utilization on the database server.

Yes - but I'm not sure if that would give the necessary effect. Once the statement reaches the database kernel engine, it gets processed, no matter if you limit the TNS/listener usage because TNS is no more involved when the statement reaches the OLAP engine.

The feature is not listed explicitly in note 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment. I'd make a call at BC-DB-ORA and ask what they think about that.
I understand your problem very well but I doubt, that there's an easy way of accomplishing this with standard tools.

Error in Reporting Tool : Resource Staistics Report

Hi All,
I have a problem in KM Reporting section.I have been trying for a long time but couldnt arrive at the soln.
Resource Statistics Report :
I create an instant report by clicking on the start button and configure the necessary
details such as Scope [Location of the resources] and other necessary parameters.
After entering all the details, i click on "start" button to begin the Resource Statistics report. The main page of the Resource Statistics Report displays status of the current
report as running.
Here comes the issue..
When i click on the link of the report created instantly, it says "Item not found"

The item you are attempting to access is not available. Check that the name or link is correct. You might also check whether the associated repository is currently accessible.
If i refresh the page , the report itself is missing.
Note: If i dont select "List Matching Items " in the parameter list of the report, it gives me a report without listing items.
The same case applies for other reports like "Approval Maintenance Report".

Network DR test causes Exchange DAG network to fail (Failover Cluster Manager reports comms errors)

We have a DAG configured between 2 mailbox servers, one in each of our main data centres. Our comms team recently performed a DR test between our 2 data centres, switiching from the main production link to the backup link. During this outage the Failover
Cluster Manager reported errors, with each mailbox server reporting the other as uncontactable. The Events that were logged include the following:
Isatap interface isatap.{02ADE20A-D5D4-437F-AD00-E6601F7E7A9D} is no longer active. (EventID 4201)
Cluster node 'MAILBOX_SERVER' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the
Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is
connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges. (EventID 1135)
File share witness resource 'File Share Witness (\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME)' failed to arbitrate for the file share '\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME'. Please ensure that file share '\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME' exists and is accessible by the cluster. (EventID

The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service. (EventID 7031)
Looking at the Cluster Events in the Failover Cluster Manager Snap-In i see a heap of Event ID 47 (cannot activate the DAG databases as the server is not up according to Windows Failover Cluster Service) and:
Node status could not be recorded. This could prevent some network failure logic from functioning correctly. NodeStatus:IsHealthy=True,HasADAccess=True,ClusterErrorOverrideFalse,LastUpdate=5/2/2011 8:25:42 AMUTC Failure:An Active Manager operation failed.
Error: An error occurred while attempting a cluster operation. Error: Cluster API '"ClusterRegSetValue() failed with 0x6be. Error: The remote procedure call failed"' failed.. (EventID 184)
Forcefully dismounting all the locally mounted databases on server 'BACKUP_MAILBOX_SERVER. (EventID 307).
Our Comms team doesn't believe it is a comms issue as they did not log any network communication errors between the servers in the two sites (using icmp). So if it is not a comms issue, how can I configure the Failover Cluster Manager to be resilient to
this type of network failover event.

Isn't it also true that in a stretched DAG with even numbered nodes, the PAM needs to be in the same site as the active DAG node? If the connection between both nodes goes down, and the PAM is in the "passive" site, the primary node will
dismount the databases since it can't check with the PAM to make sure its safe for it to be up.
In a even-numbered node stretched DAG, the PAM changes to the DR/passive site everytime a failover occurs, but doesn't automatically switch back when you reactivate the primary node.

Resource Manager and Images

Hi,
I upgraded to RH9 (from RHX5) and very happily started to use both the Snippet and Resource Manager functionality.
I seem to have hit a mental block despite reading the help and looking up this forum regarding updating images in the resource manager .....
I have multiple projects and the same image is used throughout the projects - sometimes only once in a project and sometimes multiple times in the same project.
Lets say this image is called Picture1.gif - due to program re-design I now need to update Picture1.gif.
Picture1.gif is stored in Resource Manager and as it is linked then a copy is also stored in my project.
I delete the old image, create a new image, rename it to the original name Picture1.gif and drag it to Shared Resources and then drag it back again so that it is linked.
Despite the back and forth steps this does in fact work - the image is updated in other projects as expected.
However, if an image appears in a project multiple times then I have to change it everywhere before I can rename it, etc. etc.
I feel quite sure that I am missing something here and that the whole process should be simpler!!
I would have expected somehow to be able to update the image in the resource manger and then sync.

Hi Morven
In my own experience, it really shouldn't matter where you update the image, as the Resource Manager is a two way street. If you update in RoboHelp, it should be sensed and the updated image copied from your project to replace and update the centralized image. And likewise, if you update the centralized image, Resource Manager should update your project to match the updated centralized image.
Again, I woudn't want to first delete the image followed by saving a new one using the same name. I would either open one of them (centralized or project) and edit as needed. Or edit a copy, make edits, then save using the same file name so the existing image is replaced.
To the best of my knowledge, Resource Manager should sense the change as the date/time stamp should be different as well as possibly the size. Then the automation should kick in to update the image's counterpart and synchronize everything nicely. The only fly in this ointment would be if the new image were different in size from the pixel measurement standpoint. If the new image is wider or taller or narrower or shorter, you would need to ensure that you reset the sizes in your project so they match the new dimensions. Otherwise they will be a bit skewed and have the fun house effect. I believe RoboHelp supplies a script for this.

Resource Management and Solaris Zones Developer Guide

Solaris Information Products ("Pubs") is creating a
developer guide for resource management and Solaris Zones.
The department is seeking input on content from application
developers and ISVs.
We plan to discuss the different categories of applications
that can take advantage of Solaris resource management
features, and provide implementation examples that discuss
the particular RM features that can be used.
Although running in a zone poses no differences to most
applications, we will describe any possible limitations and
offer appropriate workarounds. We will also provide

We plan to use case studies to document the zones material.

Hi there, i'm using solaris resource management in a
server with more thant 2thousand acounts.
Created profiles for users, defaul, staff, root and
services.Seeing the contents of your /etc/project file could be helpful.
But while using rctladm to enable syslog'ing, I set up
global flags of "deny" and "no-local-action" in almos
everything.The flags on the right hand side of the rctladm(1M) output are read-only:
they are telling you the characteristics of the resource control in question (what
operations the system will allow the resource control to take).
Now, many aplications don't work because they are
denied enough process.max-stack-size and
process.max-file-descriptor for them to work.
Applications such has prstat.If prstat(1) is failing due to the process.max-file-descriptor control value, that's
probably a bug. prstat(1) is more likely bumping into the limit to assess how many file
descriptors are available, and then carrying on--you're just seeing a log message since
prstat(1) tested the file descriptor limit, and you've enabled syslog for that control. Please
post the prstat(1) output, and we'll figure out if something's breaking.
I don't find a way to disable the global flags. You can't. I would disable the syslog action on the process.max-stack-size control first;
there is an outstanding bug on this control, in that it will report a false triggering event--
no actual effect to the process. (If you send me some mail, I will add you as a call record
on the bug.)

how to disable and enable solaris resource management
all together?You could raise all of the control values, but the resource control facility (like the resource
limit facility it superseded) is always active. Let's figure out if you're hitting the bug I mentioned,
and then figure out how to proceed.

Resource manager experts, kindly advise!

Hi All,
Currently our database server (with 8 CPUS) is having 2 database 'A' and 'B'. Database 'A' has no problem as it's a small instance with not much users. However, for database 'B', the online users encounter slowness frequently as some reports are generating at that time as well. As such, we would like to limit reporting schema to 20% of the CPU, online users 60% and the remaining 20% to the rest of the schemas.
However for our case, since there are 2 databases in the server, using resource manager ALONE for database 'B' won't helps right? As 2 databases are sharing the 8 CPU, we are unsure how will resource manager work in this case in percentage allocation since only the problem database will be using resource manager adding up 100% of CPU Allocation.
Anything needed to be configured in OS level? Kindly advise as i do not have much system admin exposure.

This is probably a conversation you want to have with your AIX admins. Any high end Unix is going to have some ability to partition the system to prevent one user's processes from overwhelming the system. But these tools may require additional licensing, may require substantial configuration, may require changes to your Oracle setup (i.e. the two databases may need to be in different homes owned by different users), etc. The AIX folks would be the ones to have this conversation with.
A 30-second Google search turns up [this discussion of partition load manager in AIX|http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/systems/index.jsp?topic=/iphat/iphbkconfigureplm.htm] that seems like it may be what you want.

Preparing to use resource manager

Hi, we would like to use resource manager to help manage resources on the database server. We currently do not have grid control running in this environment which is 10g rac on unix.
I was looking for suggestions on the best method to understand current resource usage by session on the database server. I have looked at awr reports but I do not see the data I would need to decide how I would configure resource groups and what limits I should put on them.
Is there a best practice method for collecting data to help in designing an affective resource manager configuration? Maybe some collection scripts?
I know this is probably vague.

Two quick ways to do this. In finder pick your Macbooks Icon for the drive. Then right click and choose get info. This will bring up a window and you will see the capacity , how much is available, and how much is used.
The other way is to click the Apple in the upper left corner and choose *About This Mac* A window will open. Now look under Hardware and choose Serial-ATA You will then see something like this as you scroll the info window.
Capacity: 297.77 GB
Available: 179.58 GB
Writable: Yes
File System: Journaled HFS+

Resource Statistics Report of KM

Has any body ever used the Resource Statistics Report of KM ?
I have a couple of questions on the same
1. Does it work with File System Repository Manager?
2. I basically want a log report for the following operations
     a. user uploads/creates a document
     b. user deletes a document
     c. user edits locally / edits online
Is it possible to track the above operations at a user level?
I have tried various combinations in the "parameter" tab of the report but am not able to achieve what I want.
If anybody has any experience with this report, kindly share it.

Resource Manager Understanding

Hi DBA,
While going through the documents of Oracle Resource Manager , I have a Resource Plan execution can be based on CPU or Forcefully. Means Once the CPU utilization reaches 100% only then resource plan comes into the picture or we can forced it even it is not 100%.
My doubt is if I allocate a 100% CPU to resource manager plan by creating the consumer group and we are forcing that resource plan,
If some other application is running on the servers what will be impact on that application, does that application get the CPU.What will the impact on internal system processing (Kernels). How the CPU is going to be distributed ?
I understand that 100% CPU utilization on a server is different thing and that causes the performance issue.

Hi,
During the month end activity , In our Project CPU and IO utilization increases( Almost Doubled) , since some reports required by business fired.
We want to implement resource plan for that users.
Suppose I create two Consumer group Full_MONTH and Month_end and create a plan.
If I assign 80% CPU to full_month consumer and 20% to Month_end Consumer and forcing this plan to run as mentioned yesterday .
So I want to understand if I implement above plan in the Resource Manager , What will be the impact on Other application and Server Processing.
Since I forcing to Give 100% CPU to my resource manager plan.

Apps use of Resource Manager

We have a client that would like to limit system resources utilized within the Apps (11.5.10.2) so that a group of users does not run a request that brings the system to a standstill. I know that the individual request should be setup to minimize this possibility, but I'm wondering if the database Resource Manager can be utilized to limit resource for users in Apps?

You are supposed to be able to use the Database Resource Manager Integration for this, page 69 of Ahmed Alomari's Open World talk. When configured, set the FND: Resource Consumer Group profile option for certain responsibilities or users.
Database Resource Manager Integration
• Define Resource Consumer Groups and associate specific concurrent programs with a resource group.
• Allows an administrator to constrain the amount of CPU resources used by a concurrent program.
• Resource Groups can also be defined for online users and concurrent requests using the profile:
• "FND: Resource Consumer Group".
• Useful for Discoverer users or ad-hoc reporting users.
