Resource role information from shared resource pool file to a master project file

Hi,
I am using Microsoft Project Professional 2013. We have multiple project managers running their own projects. We are building out a PMO and are bringing all these plans into one master 'portfolio' plan.  So
we have one master plan file, subproject 1, subproject 2... and then we have setup a shared resource file where all resources are utilising the same shared pool.
This works well and in the master file we can do resource usage checks. We have also  added extra columns such as resource group which gets shown in the master file and we can filter which group (in our
case infrastructure, projects, applications etc) are consuming most resources.
The bit I am stuck on is management also wanted to report on the resource role ie which person is a project manager, business analyst etc. I have created a custom field in the shared resource plan as 'resource role' and populated as per their job role but for
some reason the info added in the shared resource file doesn't get conveyed to the master file as say the resource group does.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Dales for helping out.  Thats how I originally did it. Went into organizer. At first I had copied the 'Resource Role' custom field to the global template and then in the master file added the same column but nothing showing. Then tried same again
but this time copying directly to the master file but still no joy.
I am seeing 'Resource group' appear as it should. I make a change to a someones resource group in the share pool file and I see the change in the master file but not happening with the custom field resource role.

  • Shared Resource Pool creates multiple calendars in Projects (Project Profession 2013)

I have a small programme, a total of 18 individual plans including the Resource Pool, the resource pool seems to be creating individual calendars for each active resource these calendars (e.g. Resource Fred has a line ID of 9 in the Resource sheet and a
calendar MyCal9 is created) these Calendars are then copied into each of the Projects in which the resources are active.
I have not seen this before and it seems so inefficient (and makes the Project .mpp files huge) that I am concerned that some sort of corruption has crept in, is this the case or is this how Project 2013 works?
    Nigel Parsons

Linking between files uses a very old windows technology called DDE. It is DDE that is flawed, so the same problems apply to two linked Excel workbooks, it's not a Project problem. Over-writing, renaming, moving files or storing on remote servers all incurs
a risk of file corruption from DDE flaws. Citrix should be ok provided the Citrix servers and teh server holding teh files are physically in the same building (not linked over a WAN).
Copying and unzipping etc I recommend NOT linking. To create a consolidated view insert all sub-projects into a new file with link option OFF. This consolidates all data (including resources) and provides a great reporting tool.
Record a macro to make creating new copies quick and easy.

  • How to extract meta information from a wmv9 video file?

    Hi,
I need to get the meta data (e.g. sample rate, length, resolution ..) extracted from a wmv9 video file.
I know that there is no direct support for wmv files in java, e.g. from the JMF. Although there is a plugin fobs4jmf available which is a wrapper for ffmpeg able to decode/encode wmv files it only has full support for wmv7 and wmv8 files.
Does anyone know a solution to parse wmv9 files in java on a linux/windows os?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Extract iview / role information from PCD with ODBC

    Hi all,
I'd like to report informations about existing iviews, roles and their dependencies by directly accessing the PCD (MS SQL).
Accessing with MS Acces via ODBC is working fine, my problem is that I don't understand the db-structure and cannot find usefull informations about my portal objects.
Where can I find an documentation about the PCD-structure?
    regards,
    Stefan

    Hi,
There may not be any such documentation available online about DB tables structure to store PCD information.
If we want to -  "look for PCD Objects directly using SQL without APIs" - then we can check for tables having pre-fix "EP". Specifically table named "EP_OBJECTS", it's referred as to been storing portal content in SAP Note: 918553.
Alternatively may want to try checking SQL Trace of PCD requests as per SAP Note: 822257.
PS: Above notes are for EP 6.0, however they would also be relevant to NW Portal 7.0. And below is a link for BP for NW 7.0 Portal Performances which also emphasizes that PCD DB tables start on pre-fix "EP".

I hope above information would of some help.

  • Project Server 2013 - Remove user from resource pool via sync

    Hello everyone,
has anyone managed to configure their Project Server 2013 box with a resource pool sync that will actually remove user from the resource pool (disable "User can be assigned as resource" or deactivate users) when the user is removed from the AD
    group(s)?
Setup: Single box, SQL 2012 SP1, SharePoint/Project Server 2013 + PU March + CU April. 2 PWA instances, 1 in SharePoint and 1 in Project permission mode. Tried on 2 different machines (different setup, accounts, domains).
    Proceedings:
Create AD user U, AD group G. Add U to G.
Go to PWA, setup resource pool sync with G, sync.
U is now in the resource pool, has no PWA permissions.
Remove U from G. Resync resoure pool.
U is still in resource pool, still a resource, still active, can still be assigned as resource.
Adding U back to G an repeating the whole spiel with a resource pool and a PWA group sync of G will result in U being added and removed from the user list (as expected), and U being added but not removed from the resource pool.
    Having read
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg982985.aspx and
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg750243.aspx, there does not seem to be an omission on my part.
    The first article states:
    Note:
The corresponding Project Server User Account is not deactivated based on this synchronization. If the same Active Directory user is configured to synchronize with a Project Server security group, the Project Server user account will be inactivated when
that synchronization occurs. For more information, see
Best practices to configure Active Directory groups for Enterprise Resource Pool synchronization in Project Server 2013.
Unfortunately, this deactivation either does not seem to occur even with a PWA group sync or I misunderstood the article.
So, did anyone manage to setup their resource pool sync in a way, that new resource will be added, but also be removed from the resource pool?
    Kind regards,
    Adrian

    Hi Adrian,
you tried to sync the same AD group that you used for the resource pool sync also with a Project Server permission group?
And on removal of the user of the AD group the project user/resource is not deactivated? Only removed from the group
    Regards
    Christoph
    Hi  Christoph,
even though I might have tried that before, I tried it again in several constellations. It didn't change anything. The the user will be properly added to and removed from the PWA group whenever I remove them from the AD group, the use will also stay active
(but cannot logon without permissions). However, the user will always remain in the resource pool, i.e. the "User can be assigned as resource." checkbox will remain unless it is cleared manually.
Having re-read the technet articles, none of the scenarios actually seem to descibe or address the process that I require, or maybe I'm just misunderstanding. Let me just try to outline the core issue:
Add user to AD group. Sync AD group with resource pool. User is now a PWA resource and PWA user.
Remove user from AD group, but do not deactivate/delete user from AD.
    (Magic happens!)
User cannot be assigned as ressource in PWA.
So, is there anything to make this step 3 happen, or is it just not possible to sync users out of the resource pool anymore unless they are deleted/deactivated in AD?
    Kind regards,
    Adrian

  • Master Projects, Subprojects, Resource Pool

I have reviewed the previous threads and have not found a good match with my issue.  Here goes.
I have a project plan (Plan1) stored on OneDrive.  I have a second plan that is my resource pool stored in the same location.  I open both plans by clicking on them in OneDrive.  When I go into Plan1, I go to Resource Pool -> Share Resources.
The pop-up box comes up with the 'Use Own Resources' selected.  The other option of 'Use Resources (requires at least one open resource pool)' is greyed out.  How do I get it such that I can select the second option and enter the name of my resource
    pool.
The resource pool is a .mpp file that has no tasks and it has about 70 resources defined.  Is there something I must toggle to show that it is a resource pool file?
I am using MS Project 2013 Professional.  I am not using Project Server or PWA.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and assistance!
    Hillary
Clarification:  I have both plans (which are both on OneDrive) opened at the same time - and the Plan1 file does not recognize the the other file (pool) as a potential candidate for a resource pool.
Clarification #2:  When I copy the resource pool to my desktop, and then open it, Plan1 (on OneDrive) is able to see the resource pool and share it...

    HRDavidson,
Convolved it is and you are also setting yourself up for corruption as I've indicated in my initial response. This is what I suggest. Since each element of the overall structure (i.e. resource pool, sharer files, master file, network, multi-user environment)
contributes to the probability of corruption, your best chance for minimizing corruption is to eliminate and/or control each element.
The ideal configuration is for all files to be resident on a local drive with one person in control but that probably isn't going to work in your scenario. However, there are some things you can do. First, I would not maintain a dynamic master file. You
can still see the whole plan with all 6 individual projects whenever you need by creating a static master (i.e. uncheck the "link to project" option in the lower right corner of the Insert Project window). That will produce a new single file that
is a snapshot in time of all the individual projects. The main advantage is that it does not create an additional link structure. Second, develop a set of groundrules on file maintenance and make sure all users are trained. The basic groundrules are: never
move, rename, replace, or save off any files in the structure. You may wish to add other rules concerning what users can and cannot change with regard to data.
Using the above approach you will still have a resource pool/sharer file linked structure on a network and it will still be prone to corruption but your chances for success will be increased. If you want to totally eliminate, (although nothing is really
"total"), the chance of corruption, combine the whole structure into a single file with either one person in charge or a defined set of access rules (e.g. time) for each user. Filtering, grouping or other techniques can facilitate easier maintenance
    by each user.
The other option of course is to move to Project Server.
Those are my thoughts. Perhaps Dale and Rod will drop in with their comments.

  • Extract information from Javadoc files

I want to extract class, method & parameter information from the javadoc files (in html format, not from source code).
Are there any existing API's / opensource projects that would help me do this.
I have tried searching google and the forums, but I end up finding results related to extracting javadoc info from the source files. However I am interested in recovering this information from the generated HTML files.
    Any pointers would be helpful.
    - Ajay

The situation is like this: I have a stub jar file alongwith the documentation in HTML form. The classes in the jar file do not have any debug information so eclipse can not extract any parameter name information from the jar file. It does extract some info from the documentation, but quite a lot of the variables are still not named.
It becomes a tedious job to work with the API when you can not figure out which parameter refers to what. I have to often lookup the documentation to figure it out.
My plan is to recreate the stub jar by decompiling it and merging the parameter name information derived from the html documentation to create create source files. Then I can recompile them with debugging enabled to generate class files.
Any ideas or open source projects that would let me do this quickly?

  • Remove RMAN information from target control file

    Dear Gurus,
Can any one inform me that how I can remove RMAN related information from Target database control file.
    Regards,
    asif

    Recreate the Controlfile.
    1. Generate the script with "ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;"
    2. Shutdown the database
    3. Obtain the script from the tracefile in user_dump_dest
    4. Run the CREATE CONTROLFILE portion of the script
Note : Oracle generally advices a Cold Backup before doing a CREATE CONTROLFILE. If you edit the script and inadvertently miss one or more datafiles from the CREATE command, those datafiles would no longer belong to the database and you wouldn't be able to "add" them back -- you'd have to RESTORE the controlfiles and database.
Recreating the Controlfile clears all information about recent backups from the controlfile. So this is not a step to be taken lightly. If you do this and, later, need to do a Restore/Recover operation, RMAN wouldn't find information. But that, based on a reading of your question, seems to be what you DO want to do.

  • In witch table the information of Shared Components are stored?

    Hi all,
I want to get the some information from 'Shared Components' especially the 'Version' in category 'Definition' -> 'Name' using an SQL query. In witch table could I find this information?
    cheers,

    Ben,
Check out the Application Express data dictionary views, in this case the view apex_applications against which the following query will show you the version attribute of an application XXX:
    select version from apex_applications where application_id=XXX;
Queries against these views can be issued from the SQL Workshop after you authenticate to the workspace of interest or they can be issued from within your application.

  • How can I copy GPS information from one image to another?

I bought a Canon S100 specifically for its GPs and movie capability.  On a recent vacation, I used the S100 and a Nikon D300.  In cases where images were taken with both cameras in approximately the same place, I would like to copy the GPS information from the S100 CR2 files to the D300 NEF files.  Does anyone know how to do this or if there is any plugins that will do it?

The added benefit of using GeoSetter to copy the information from one photo to another, is that you can see where every already-tagged photo is on a Google map to make sure the location is actually correct.  Sometimes the camera clock is off a few seconds or minutes and you can easily figure how what offset to use by watching where the existing photos show on the map.
Using the MS Pro Photo Tools to generate a track from the existing S100 photos and then using that track in GeoSetter to assign the rest, with interpolation enabled, seems like the best course of action if the S100 track information is no longer available.
When using an external program to Geotag images that are already in LR, to be safe you should first save all the metadata to XMP files in the folder you’re going to tag, then exit LR, then geotag the photos, then restart LR and read information from all the XMP files.
Another benefit of GeoSetter is that you can assign the locality information to the photos that already have just coordinates in them.

  • Programatically pick PowerView properties from Microsoft Excel 2013 file

    Hi,
I have a requirement to programmatically read/handle PowerView properties like title, theme, background, font-size etc. from a Microsoft Excel 2013 file. Also I need to access the properties of the objects which are added on to the PowerView,
for e.g. properties of a table or a image added to the PowerView.
I have been looking for it since long, but no luck. Is there a way by which I can achieve it? Any pointers regarding this would be really helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Simon_Hou for the response.
As per your answer, PowerView is an add-on and hence it is packaged and properties can't be picked.
But, PowerPivot is also a com add-in still there exists a programming handle for it. We are able to pick several properties for PowerPivot using Interop.
For PowerView, I am able to see certain bin files getting created but am unable to pick any information from those.
    (Bin files namely CustomProperties1.bin, CustomProperties2.bin, CustomProperties3.bin, CustomProperties4.bin, CustomProperties5.bin)
Is there any way by which we can pick certain properties for Power View as well using these files or maybe some other way?

  • MS Project Very Slow and Project Files Large when Using Shared Resource Pool

    Hello,
We are using MS Project 2010 Professional in our organization and using a shared resource pool so we can easily identify resource conflicts.  When we started this process many months ago the resource pool worked great.  Now that we have nearly
all of our projects (~40) using the resource pool, it has become essentially unusable.  Each project file that is sharing the resource pool is 12 MB or greater in file size, and most of the project files contain less than 100 lines.  Saving any file
takes ~4 minutes.  As a result, many of the resource managers and project managers are starting to avoid using MS Project which is undermining our original intent.
Any thoughts on what we could try to regain the usability, make the file sizes smaller, improve save times, etc.?  Will MS Project Server fix all of these issues?
    Thanks,
    Josh

If any of your PMs renamed, moved or over-wrote their project file whilst linked to the Resource Pool or a master, then the file may well have corrupted itself or the pool or both. With 40 files, you can guarantee one or more PMs will do one of the above,
so file corruption is a when, not if (2days or 2 years or more).
For 40 projects Project Server or any solution that copies data to a database so the resource data can be consolidated is needed. Project Server is not a simple application, it's a full server and requires proper training and processes to add value. And
it needs configuring by someone who knows what they're doing!
In the mean time try unattaching all project files from the pool, then create a new blank pool and re-attach.You will also need to File, Save as to repair each project file if needed. For bad corruption save as to a .xml format then re-import to a blank
    project.
Or, create a new master each time by inserting all projects into a new blank project, but deselecting the Link option. All tasks are then copied and the resource data consolidated. Record a macro to make creating this very quick and easy (provided your network
    isn't too slow).

  • Is there a limit of how many resources can be shared via a single Resource Pool in Project 2010 Professional standalone?

We have a single master project resource pool of over 150 resources that are shared across let's say 10-15 sub projects or sharer files.
We are using Microsoft Project Professional (standalone no project server)
Are you aware of any limitations outside of project server with resource pool and sharing, or should we be using Project server (as I have read a lot of articles about resource pool sharing working better in project server)
I'd like to get clarification on:
    1. I read that the calendars for resources (of which there could be many shift patterns etc.) should always be created in the master project only, not in the sharer files. In my testing I see that a shared resource also brings the additional calendars from
the Master Project file - and can be chosen in the calendar column from Resource sheet.
    2. Each sharer file can have it's own specific project calendar, but the resource calendar (used by the assigned resources from the pool) will drive the scheduling (as per normal), unless;
    3. A specific task has a 'Task Calendar' applied to it AND "scheduling ignores resource calendars" is ticked.
I am trying to find an article that addresses, in detail, the limitations or 'look out fors' in this area.  I have found plenty about how to create and share resources, but this is more troubleshooting.
Any advice or direction that can be given would be appreciated. Thanks.

No limit to resources, but linked master and resource pools are at high risk of file corruption if you rename, over-write or move a linked file without removing it from the master and pool first. Files will corrupt, its when not if.
Master files should never have any resources or tasks in them, only inserted projects.
I much prefer creating master files with the Link option deselected. This copies all data and consolidates resource info (so no pool needed). I record a macro to create new masters each week. This method has no corruption risk.
Your alternative now is to experiment with Project Server. By far the best way to prototype a system is to get Project Online through Microsoft, ProjectHosts or Bemo. It will give you access to a vanilla project server very quickly and cost for a few months
testing is trivial for a few users.
If you go ahead with a full implementation I strongly recommend getting a qualified Project Server partner to help you implement the full system.
