Resources for creating an ebook cover?

Greetings,
I'm a writer and I'm going to post some of my stories on Kindle. I need to create some simple ebook covers, but I'm an Illustrator rookie. Can anyone point me in the right direction or know where I can get a template?

Perhaps Illustrator would be overkill to create "simple" ebook covers ...
Why not use what you're comfortable with -- what did you use to write your stories?

I dunno, perhaps I'm too practical and that holds me back. But I see things this way. If you are just trying to come to terms with Captivate, why complicate matters further by tossing Flash into the mix. I mean, I'm assuming that Flash itself has its own nuances and ways of working. So you really have to first have a real tight handle on how it works. THEN you want to mix in Captivate. And Flash seems to have it's own way of dealing with the Captivate stuff. Inevitably Captivate seems to impose it's own "weirdness" on things. So my goal is to stay as simple as I can unless I really need to step beyond what the basics offer. Then I am keenly aware that the road I'm choosing to travel is fraught with pitfalls that won't be easy to discern or overcome.
I have to ask myself if the possible benefit warrants the extra effort involved.

How t o automatically create an eBook cover in Photoshop?

I have a website that is focused on Internet marketing strategy and I want to create a product including an eBook cover for a prodject. I have been told there is an automatic program or sequence of commands that can dothis for me. Is this true? if so how do I do it?

Many folks design their graphics for book covers using Photoshop. Try to think of Photoshop more as an electronic easel with lots of tools you can use to make your design and view it at different sizes rather than an automatic tool that will somehow magically take you to an end.
Photoshop CAN save images in just about any format.
One thing about eBook cover graphics that I can remember offhand... Make sure your potential readers can clearly read the title on the thumbnail.

Once you have the ALD open for the document layout you creating, you can insert a text field which will serve as a permenant remark for that document or BP.
You van position it and size the text bow as you desire.
I uforutnately have not found the "perm remark for print" within the ALD and this works quite well.
When the ALD is activated, all std print functionality within system initial--> print pref becomes null and void.

Hints for resource to create video production compatible photoshop graphics

Could someone please recommend a good website or information resource for creating graphics in Photoshop that are compatible with video production. 720x540, square vs non-square pixels, alpha channels, etc. I have Googled for an hour and am not finding what I need.
I want to make images, graphics, titles, menus, etc for DV production that will be finished in DVD Studio Pro. I do not wish to use Final Cut or DVD studio apps for any of the graphics, I much prefer to design in Illustrator and Photoshop!
I am concerned about sizes, NTSC colors and pixel shape as I mentioned above. There must be a good site with reference material and basic how to's.

How do people make high quality graphics ready for FCP? Re-sampling to a different size is never a good idea. Thanks for pointing me towards LAFCPUG - there's lots of other great stuff on the site, as always, but the Photoshop tutorial is from 2001. Much too old to be of any current use what so ever. Photoshop CS3/4 now handles all the pixel sizing automatically or so I am told.
I'm not sure why I am having so much trouble finding out about this. Custom graphics are imported into FCP all the time. I just need a basic idea of how to properly create a new file in Photoshop CS3 that will not be re-sized and therefore look like trash! (images are only 72 dpi so resampling is not a good idea!)
At the moment my only option is to do a test, and re-sample the width until it looks about right, then just make everything weird and distorted to start with? Same goes for Illustrator I guess... except I could import to Photoshop and stretch my graphics until they look similarly "weird and distorted"... seems very odd to me that there's no up-to-date solution for this very common situation.
Also RGB monitor colors are no good for TV. I used to use my Hollywood DV and an actual TV to get colors right, but again, I am tired of guessing at all this!

While I was beginning with creating an eBook with iBookAuthor, I didn't know that the target group iPhone user is missed.
I want to create and publish an eBook, which is intended for iPad, Mac and iPhone users.

What are the pixel dimensions for creating an Apple ibook book cover?

Apple seems to have made it more confusing than it should be.
As an aside, the Apple documentation contradicts itself.
Cover art (also known as a marketing image or jacket) should be at least 1400 pixels along the smaller axis and must be a JPEG or PNG file in RGB Color mode.
This clearly says the shorter side must be at least 1400 pixels. The next sentence says this:
For an average trade paperback, this could be 400 x 1400 minimum size, as the books are generally taller than they are wide.
That doesn't make sense, seeing that the shorter side is supposed to be at least 1400 pixels, meaning it should say "1400 x 4900" for the same aspect ratio.
...I did notice this too.
So, if as you say, that the Cover Art and Cover image terms are the same and the 2 million limit does not apply, then it is unclear to me why Apple sent this message to me about cover file being rejected
"Action Required: Your book could not be delivered to the iBookstore.
The following images are larger than two million pixels and must be resized:
Full ePub: Cover_xyz.jpg "
I'll probably need to have the cover file in epub and Cover Image for Asset in iTunes Producer be named differently (but be copies of the same file) so I can understand which one is the "problem" file.
And finally, why does Apple refer to Cover Art twice here and then end in last sentence with Cover Image if they are the same ( and if they are the same why not state "this cover image").

Unable to "Create Portal Resource" for content presenter templates

Hi All,
Using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.5, I have created a new WebCenter Portal Application and under webcenter/portalapp folder I created a "contentTemplates" folder and created a fragment page within it.I am trying to create portal resource for this fragment template but I am not seeing the option "Create Portal Resource" when I right clicked the jsff.
I dont see the option for even for pageTemplates or pages.Am I missing anything?
Any help appreciated.

Can you test pasting this code in your jsff? FYI <dt:contentListTemplateDef var="nodes"> is important when you create a portal resource.

Weblogic datasource - Created "1" resources for pool "DataSource", out of which "1" are available and "0" are unavailable.

I am performing some transactions with java application deployed on weblogic. I faced some issue of getting the transaction response with some delay. I found these below mention messages logged into the managed server logs.
Following is my datasource settings
Initial Capacity: 2
Maximum Capacity: 100
Capacity Increment: 20
Anyone have idea why these following errors coming.

I'm getting closer. I actually tried a variety of expressions, such as "== null" and yours, but the problem persists.
I am settling on the following, but there is a hangup related to the field that is being looked at for the condition that I will explain in a minute. Here's the script:

What happens is that, no matter which row in my table I'm in when I click the remove instance button, the script is always looking to the DebitVal field in the first row of the table. So, if the first row is empty, the message box won't appear for the removal of any row in my table. If the first row has a value in DebitVal, then the deletion of any row in the table will trigger the message box.
I need a way to specify the script to look at the DebitVal field in the row that I am clicking in, without messing up the remove instance command.
Ideas?

I love to get books or manuals or web sites to read about how my Apple product works, stuff like "The Missing Manual" series. I can't find such a resource for the Apple TV, which I just bought and really love.
Does anyone know of such a resource?

What is a good ID5 Document Setup for an epub ebook for the iPhone?

I'd welcome some help using ID5 to create an ebook that is optimized for displaying on the iPhone.
In particular, I'm looking for appropriate dimensions of the base page, in pixels, to enter in the Document Setup dialog box.
From what I've read, 320 x 480 pixels should work well for both the iPhone 4 as well as previous versions.
Is that accurate?
The Setup page also includes boxes for Bleed and Slug. Should any values be entered there, or should they remain zero?

This is a great question because it seems like there should be… but the truth is that there isn’t. The reason there isn’t is important: You don’t lay out an EPUB “ebook.”
Since you got off with a bad start, you might want to invest in your background material; either new book in New InDesign-to-eBook Resources should be good for starters.

Ebook cover ppi and dpi help please

I am working on an ebook cover. It seems that I have come across different numbers for recommended sizes. When using Photoshop Elements, I have the choiced of pixels or inches. Then ppi.
I created a cover at 300 ppi. I have read that it should be 72 dpi. Are the two numbers related? How do I make an image at 72 dpi in Photoshop Elements?

Is there an open interface/API for creating and/or updating organizations representing plants/distribution centers/warehouses etc in EBS?? If not is there any way to load such information beside the UI.

Have a look at the Human Resources product on iRep. There ara API's for organizations and i thing classification also.
