Responding to group texts?

my mom sometimes sends me an image of something and it shows up as going to some number (sometimes i don't know who this is since they are not in my contacts) and "3 others.
then when i respond i get some email from someone asking me some question because - well, - ah, because responding to the group text went to everyone in the group?!
can anyone tell me what is going on here or if i can send the text to the SENDER in some way? part of the problem is that when i get the text it does not show up as coming from my MOM and instead shows up as coming from the group somehow.
i mean, i can't quite figure out what is happening but i know i get a text from someone that is like "huh? it is snowing in alabama" and then i also get a reply from my mom in chicago...

thanks! i am an idiot with this stuff and i only get a chance to try and figure it out once in a long while.
I guess this is a "Group MMS"?
so - i see here that the text today (the image) just shows up as a new "Messages" and that it is the only message showing under this number. the message is listed with a little mac group icon and then a number +1 (XXX) XXX-XXX, and then a tiny little bit of text that is the first two letters of my moms last name.
and then i click on it and "To;" it shows the number (it is my cousing in california i guess) and then it says 2 more. and i see the image and then - well now i see a really tiny little bit of text over the image that shows my moms full name.
when i reply, i get a response from my cousin in california whose cell number is apparently not in my contacts and i also get a reply from my mom and both come up as separate threads. with my cousins number coming up with a long list of texts that i have had with her in the past due to this same deal and then my moms response comes up under /her/ list of texts.
but the group text shows as being a group but coming from my cousins number.
not sure how to answer your question but i guess you are asking if me and my mom are logging into apple with the same id? she is actually not even on a mac so her texts are not coming from a iphone in any case.
any ideas? it is really bizarre and sort of weird. maybe group texts are just not formatted or displayed well so i am not getting the important information up from in group Messages?
THANKS

  • Cannot send or receive group text if someone is not on an apple phone

Does anyone else have this problem or have a solution to this issue?  Has been like this since I got the phone and Apple says it is Verizon AND Verizon says it is Apple!  I cannot send or receive a group text!  Help!

i have the same issue with AT&T. My phone receives picture and group texts just fine, but responding to group texts fails.
Disabling MMS allows you to send texts to multiple people at the same time but doesn't set up the group chat environment so that responses can be automatically sent to everyone as well. you end up receiving text responses from each recipient in a separate thread.
AT&T has also stated that it is an iPhone issue, but I have yet to ask apple what they think the problem is. Since the issue sounds identical to KKONO's, I'd assume the response would be that I should speak with AT&T about it. :\
It doesn't really make sense that the carrier would be the one at fault since if MMS were really dysfunctional it would have much more widespread affects than just disabling group chat response. Send/Receive picture text and receive group chat should also be disabled. Since the problem is isolated only to responding to group chat, I'd think it's more likely an issue with apple iOS.
    Any thoughts?

  • When I send a group text, every response I get is also sent to the entire group. Is there a way to fix this?

There is a weird thing going on with my group text messages; at least I think it's weird. I was recently arranging a party, and sent a group text out to all of my friends from my iPhone 4s. When people responded to me about their availability, everyone on my initial list also got that response. The responder assumed they were only texting me, so they had no idea they were texting everyone! Luckily, nobody sent a reply like, "I won't come because that fat cow Josie is going to be there," but they could have.
Is there any way to make it so when people respond to me it is not a reply all?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hey Grupo Castillo,
Thanks for the question. You can actually configure this behavior from Mail preferences:
    1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
    2. Click Composing.
    3. Deselect the checkbox for "When sending to a group, show all member addresses".
When you send an email to the group, only the groups name will be seen.

  • HT204065 Group text with one non iPhone not working on iPhone 6 in the group.

Group text with one non iPhone not working on one iPhone 6 in group. SMS, MMS and iMessage as well as group messaging are all turned on. Has worked intermittently but now cannot see or respond in that particular chain. Can send independently to the non iPhone (Samsung) but not in group. Other iPhone 6 and 5 in group work fine.

The reason why you have to turn off 3Gs is because T-Mobile does not support iPhones 1700 something or other. You have to turn off the 3Gs on the iPhone to make it work.
As already provided, it shouldn't matter since the iPhone is designed to automatically connect to the fastest internet connection available. If wi-fi access and 3G network access is on, when in range of an available wi-fi network you have access to and have connected your iPhone with previously, the iPhone will connect to the wi-fi network automatically. When leaving the range of the wi-fi network, the iPhone will connect to the 3G network if 3G network access is available. If 3G network access is not available, the iPhone will connect to EDGE or GPRS - whichever is available at the time.
If this is unique to T-Mobile's network with the iPhone for some reason since T-Mobile is not an official carrier for the iPhone in the U.S. and you were instructed by T-Mobile to do so, then you need to do so.
If this is not working now, the problem lies with T-Mobile and I have no idea what to tell them for them to recognize where the problem lies on their end.

  • Please help: Quick Reply recipients for a group text

Hello! Thank you for your response.
For the Quick Reply feature when texts are set to "alert", it seems to always show who sent the most recent text. If this person sent a message to both you and a third person, is there a way to set the Quick Reply feature to show both names that you are responding to?
Or, to verify if I am responding to a single person or a group text, must I always choose "Close" and then open Messages?
    Thanks again!

  • How do I send a group text and not have everyone else get the responses

How do I send a group text and not have everyone else get the responses?   Thx

Whether or not everyone gets the response depends solely on the person responding. i.e. you send a group text and i am one of the reciepients. From here i have two options, reply to the group text (everyone gets my reply) or i could text just you on the side (by opeining a new window in messages with just you as the reciepient) and replying to just you. Theres nothing you can do, its up to the person replying whether or not they reply to the entire group or just you seperately.

  • Replying to group texts with 6.0

    hello everyone ~
i've searched for the answer to this and haven't found a posting, so i'm hoping it's just my phone and not a huge issue for anyone else:
my friends/co-workers and i often times do group texting, but since upgrading to 6.0, i can no longer "reply all" to the text. all i can do is send a reply to the person sending the group.
this is further frustrated by the fact that everyone else can "reply all" and i get the conversation from every member of the group all sent to me as individual text messages, able to reply to one, but never more than one.
help?? this is something that happens a LOT and i would hate to have to tell everyone that my phone all of a sudden has stopped supporting such a basic feature.
    thanks,
    m.

I've been combing the forums looking for an answer to this question, too. I'll receive group texts, but don't know it's a group text because I only see the one sender, and can't respond to all if I figure out it went to a group and not just me. I can only respond to the sender.
    Anyone have any solutions?

  • Why are my group text messages sent as mms?

Please can someone help, I am on a plan with orange unlimited text. This is ideal for me when using my iphone as in often have to send a group message to 40+ people due to nature of my volunteer work. I am receiving larger bills from orange detail g charges under 'other ' when I called orange they responded by saying that on an iphone if I wish to send a group message the iphone can only send the message as a picture message as its to a group of people. Surely Apple have the technology to send a group text message! That's why I have an unlimited plan?? Please help as my volunteer work is costing me a small fortune!!!

HI. I had the same thing the other day. I sent a link to 40 people and got charged for 40 picture messages. I phoned my network provider and they said it is an apple fault (iphone).
If you send a group 'Text' to more than 6 people, the iphone somehow marks it as a MMS or picture message. I get free texts and was shocked to be charged, but they did look into my messages and could see it was not an image and refunded me.
If they are right, its an apple problem. Can anyone shed sme light on this?

  • Group Text Issues with Sprint users

When I send a group text, anyone receiving the text on a Sprint phone gets an empty conversation bubble. The same is true when I respond to a group text that includes Sprint users. All other non-Sprint users can see my messages and replies. I have an HTC One and my default messaging app is Messages version 6.5.798297. Any idea how to fix this?

That is a sprint problem. Have them call Sprint.
If the others are getting them, and it means you are sending successfully then its not a Verizon issue.

  • Repsonding to "group text" messages.

Has anyone else experience when responding to the sender of a group text, that everyone in the group recieves the message also. Does anyone no how this feature can be turned off?

That's the way it works. That's why it's called "group" messaging.
If you want to message a specific person, compose a new message thread to the person you are addressing.

  • Receiving group texts

When someone sends me a group text, i can't tell that it is within a group.  I only see that it came to me.  I then realize it is within a group when someone else responds to the same question.  Also when I send texts in groups the people I send to cant see the group text.

Help is right  here, front and center kimluellen! Allow us to look into your group text message concern. Can I assume that you have the Lumia Icon? If so then are the other devices Icons as well? If the other devices are non-Windows smartphones then this may be a contributing factor to the group messaging issue. If you can share the details then we can look into this for you.

  • Unable to change group text name or add person to some group texts in iOS 8

I really like the ability to change group text names as it helps me separate work group texts from personal especially when I have coworkers that have separate business phones. I'm unable to change the name of some group texts as the option is not there when I go into details. I'm also unable to add contact to the same group texts that I'm unable to change the name on. Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

    Hi CaliWingsFan,
If you are having issues with renaming and adding users to group texts, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Can't group text or send/receive picture messages! Please Help!

    Hell Everyone,
so I just recently switched from my Iphone back to my blackberry for simplicity/practical reasons...I couldn't deal with the iphone anymore. In doing so, I came across a problem. I am not able to send group texts or send/receive mms. Everytime I try to do so, the text has a red 'X' next to it showing that it didn't go through. I am currently with ATT and have tried calling them to resolve it but no one knows.
here are some of the steps I took to resolve it
    1. Resetted to Factory Settings - Did not work
    2. Made sure all the settings in my text message options is selected properly - Did not work
    3. Deactivated iCloud/iMessage on my previous iPhone - Did not work
    4. Called ATT and had them make sure BB Data plan was on my plan, and it was - Did not work
    Can someone please help?
    Thank you,
    Pogos

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should re-contact your mobile service provider for formal support...be sure to request their dedicated BB support group. MMS is a specific service level that must be properly enabled on BBs in order to function. Often, the first support group you reach will not understand the proper method for configuring this on BB...but their dedicated BB support group will.
    Good luck!
