Response to answer re: Unwanted Ads

I never installed the program that was being offered. I was trying to find out about the legitimacy of the company. I can now tell you that they are not listed as friends of Microsoft! I thank you for the reply!

  • How do I permanently block unwanted ads on-line?

An ad for Consumer News that's somehow associated with Google about an amazing offer has kept popping up and preventing altogether my getting to anything else on my laptop. I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me how I can block that thoroughly obnoxious ad and any other unwanted ads.

If excess popups are occuring when you load websites, you may have disabled popup blocking. See [[Pop-up blocker]] for steps to enable.
The most likely cause of excess popups on sites that should not have them, such as Google search pages, is spyware.
    # Ensure you don't have any Firefox extensions that may be affecting the behavior of websites. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] for instructions on testing whether extensions are causing a problem.

  • Unwanted ads

Hi,   After installing Adobe Flash Player I keep getting unwanted ads and invites to update Flash Player which I find very difficult to get rid of. One of the wed sites is update-please.net. I think they might be from Cyprus. I would be grateful for any help to eradicate this from my computer. Thanks.

That sounds like your system is infected with malware; nothing to do with Flash Player.

When I open my home page, ads not supported by the site pop up at the top, moving the page down so i can't read the news. this might be a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Why do I get unwanted ads in a new tab

I keep getting ads popping up in a new tab I have run AVG anti virus and have found no issues no malware or soy detected

No single anti-virus/anti-spyware application will find everything. You need to do a thorough malware scan of your system using the following suggested programs.
    Remember:
#Never run more than 1 Firewall at a time.
#Never run more than 1 AV/AS application in an active state (on-access/real-time scanning) at a time.
#Malwarebytes free version will scan and clean infections found; no need to purchase unless you want real-time scanning and a few other features in the paid version.
Download, install and update as many of the following as possible until your infections are cleaned.
#The '''<u>free versions</u>''' of these scanners will detect infections and clean your system; no need to purchase
#'''<u>Different malware scanners detect some malware that other scanners do not.</u>'''
#If you are unable to download the malware programs,
#* change the name of the installer program before saving the download to your hard drive, and
#* once installed, go to the installation folder for the program and change the name of the program executable file (i.e., for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, change mbam.exe to xyz-mb.exe), then update the program and run the scan.
#* you may need to download on an un-infected computer, change the name of the installer program, copy the installer to a CD or USB thumb drive, and transport to your system for installation.

You probably have (probably unknowingly) installed some adware. The Safe Mac provide a script for safely removing unwanted adware:

(It's a bad idea to post your email address on a public forum. Edit it out if you can, but I'll see if I can get the moderators to remove it).

  • How can I view free-response text answers in the Summary Report of FormsCentral?

Can we view full individual free-responses in the Summary Report of FormsCentral?
One of the only things that keeps me using Survey Monkey occasionally over FormsCentral is that I can't find a way for FormsCentral to show users' free-response answers  in the Summary Report.  Survey Monkey produces all the customizable charts and graphs and also provides a "Show Free Reponses" or "Show all responses" option so you can view/report those details under the question summary, as well as the numbers.  I would prefer to use FormsCentral for everything, so I hope I'm not missing something obvious.  But, if this functionality doesn't exist yet on FormsCentral, this would be a really helpful enhancement in the future.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me to a solution!

    Hi;
Your observation is correct, the text responses are not shown as text in the Summary Report.

  • Multiple response quiz answers changing to single response

I am experiencing a funny problem with multiple response
questions. Sometimes when I launch a project with a quiz- the
multiple response questions are suddenly changing to single
respones - even the button changes from the squares - to the round
radio buttons. I go back and check and everything is set up
correctly - the multiple responses are all checked and it previews
    correctly.
It seems to randomly happen only occasionally on all my
projects - I can't recreate it as it will just happen sometimes.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem - or how to fix
    it.
    I'm on Captivate version 2
    Thanks
    Nat

Have you checked for any updates for Captivate 2? It could be
a bug that an update can remedy.

  • Safari displaying unwanted ads

In Safari ads are everywhere, embedded and displayed on the sides of Safari pages. When I click on a link or navigate on a page a new tab automatically opens in a new tab. Any help. What's happening?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • BT/Yahoo webmail platform contains unwanted ads

    Hi all
Does anyone else object to ads being part of the BT/Yahoo webmail platform. When I joined BT last September I was surprised to find that ads were allowed. I've used many web mail platforms from many ISPs and this is the first one I've seen that contains ads, most of which are aimed at a U.S. audience.
I'm even seeing ads that question my testosterone levels, featuring pictures of a rather shapely young female - I don't need or want this *c*r*a*p* - I'm 64 years old and my testosterone levels are still pretty good, thank you very much.
As if BT aren't making enough money from their fees that we all pay.
If you also dislike these ads - please keep this thread alive

I started out with nothing and I still got most of it left

Of course I use an email client, at home that is, and web mail when I'm not at home.
Why should I have to go to the trouble of filtering out these ads when they shouldn't be there in the first place.
I suspect they are there as part of the deal between BT and Yahoo.
I did hear that BT were moving to their own platform, but that seems to have died the death.

        gammav,
We definitely don't want any adds on your phone that you dind't authorize. Let's fix this. Are these ads showing when you open a specific application? How long ago did they start? Are they specific to anything or random ads?

  • How do I remove unwanted ads when browsing?

It may have been caused when I accidentally downloaded MacKeeper thinking it was a Mac App.  I deleted it but still have the ads.  The pop-up blocker is enabled.

You may not have uninstalled MacKeeper completely. They have ads everywhere but I'e not seen MacKeeper pop-up ads anywhere of late.
See -> How to uninstall MacKeeper. Note that to uninstall it properly you may have to resinatll it as you seem to have some 'parts' still lingering on your machine.
