Restalling OS 10.5.8

I need to reinstall my OS. I have the CD for 10.5.1. I have downloaded upgrades through 10.5.8 from the web. To reinstall, do I reinstall 10.5.1 from the disc first, and then re-download 10.5.8 from the web?

I would just reinstall the OS back to 10.5.1 and then use the software update to get back to 10.5.8
Whereas I would just let Software Update inform you of what updates are out there but download them yourself first, then install them. That way you can do things such as verifying your hard drive and doing a backup before letting Software Update have its way. I see a lot of posts here where people say, "I saw 4 update on SU and let it do them" and then have problems booting. I have never had this problem. Not sure if it was through not letting SU run things or all the other precautions I do.

The particular model of MacBook Pro is a key detail here, as the Mac model will determine the oldest version it can boot, as well as whether it'll boot more current software.
AFAIK there is and was no Lion installer DVD available. It was a download. AFAIK, the last DVDs commonly available were for Snow Leopard 10.6. Snow Leopard DVDs are still available in the Apple online store in various countries, if your MacBook Pro is old enough to be able to boot that version.
If your MacBook Pro purchase with Lion wasn't registered with Apple, then you'll have to discuss this directly with the Apple Support folks, or repurchase Lion from the Mac App Store (which will usually involve a call to Apple for a redemption code as it's old software), or you'll "purchase" (it's free) Mavericks OS X 10.9 and wipe and install that assuming your MacBook Pro supports Mavericks. If you didn't purchase the MacBook Pro from Apple (and it was shipped with an older release), then you'll end up acquiring a redemption code from Apple for Lion, or installing Mavericks.
For completeness and given you're probably already aware of this, the usual approach for restoration with recent OS X versions is via the recovery boot (more details). If the disk is wiped and you can't get Lion, then you'll probably end up reinstalling with Target Disk Mode using another Mac with a compatible FireWire or Thunderbolt port and a cable. Or visit the local Apple Store.
sputniki: Once OS X 10.7 or 10.9 has been reinstalled, yes, getting Time Machine configured and going is undoubtedly on the agenda. But had there been a viable backup here, I expect jianghua would have used it.

Did you recently get a new phone, or a new phone number? If not, than try checking settings> messages> and I believe that there is a SMS option in there! Make sure that it is enabled, if so and issues persist, try enabling airplane mode just for a moment, and turn it back off! this will disconnect you form whatever local roaming profile network tower you may be connected to and connect you to the closest one, also make sure 3G is enabled! These are just some idea's I seen resolve such an issue!

I believe you are only trying to install the fresh version of Creative Cloud Desktop application ? If yes, please navigate to the following location and perform the steps as mentioned .
For Windows
1) Navigate to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE
2) Rename this folder to OOBE_old and try the installation of the Creative Cloud Desktop Application.
For Mac
1) Navigate to : /library/application support/Adobe/OOBE
2)Rename this folder to OOBE_old and try the installation of the Creative Cloud Desktop Application.

ITunes update shows runtime error R6034/iTunes error 7/Windows error 1114. iTunes tells me to reinstall but I've uninstalled/restalled and get same error messages.

After iTunes update I see this - Runtime error R6034 "application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly". ThenUninstalled then I also get iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes error 7 (Windows error 1114). I've tried fixes for runtime but computer says there are no errors. I've uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes and get all the above messages. Now when I start up my computer the runtime error pops up, but once it is closed computer works fine until I try to open iTunes. I've even tried a system restore going back to November. I use iTunes for audiobooks on iPod and I'm going to get desperate soon. Any suggestion?

HT1349 When attempting to install the latest update I receive "Error 7 (Windows error 1114)" and it wants me to restall iTunes. I'm afraid.

Firefox 4, installed, It was opening Yahoo Contact List full screen, vice "window". Removed 4 and restalled 3.6 to solve problem.

Used 4 about six weeks and twice it opened the address book on Yahoo in full screen instead of "window" style. The first time it all of sudden opened to full screen. About three days later it by it self returned to window by itself. three weeks later it restarted again with full screen. ran this way for six days. I reloaded 3.6 and have not had a problem since. I did run Yahoo on IE and Google Chrome with no problem.

I have this same problem. Firefox 4 on 10.6.7 on a 2009 unibody Macbook Pro.
I've noticed that I only have the problem when I'm using multiple monitors and my Firefox 4 window is to the left of the Mac OS X Menu Bar.
My typical arrangement is: laptop monitor with firefox 4 window TO THE LEFT OF external Dell 24 inch monitor with Mac OS X Menu bar.
Moving my Firefox 4 window to the external monitor allows me to open a window.

It is probably not wise to leave your e-mail and phone number on a public forum.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
You purchase one download only.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Restall of i tunes following OS crash

Hi, I hope I've posted this to the correct forum. On Tuesday evening my computer auto updated itself with an MS patch containing SP3. To cut a long story short my system crashed and refused to boot even in safe mode. I eventually reloaded the Windows XP OS from a recovery disc and am subsequently rebuilding the drivers etc etc etc. One of the missing items is itunes. I have regained access to the internet and am ready to download itunes again. However, I am obviously anxious not to lose all of my purchased music. There is still an itunes music file on my c drive and I'm presuming that I can drag it to my newly installed itunes folder and re-access my purchased music from there. Does anyone know if this is correct please or whether the process I need to follow is more complicated? Any help very gratefully recieved at a time of very high stress!

Thanks for the response Niel, this is the latest position. I have downloaded version 7 of itunes and successfully installed it on the computer. However it does not recognise any of the music on my 2 external hard drives and when I reregistered my account with the itunes store I have no 'purchased music' history - (I should have lots!). At the moment the purchased music is the least of my worries - my concern is that I cannot get any of the 280GB of music on the external drives into itunes. I'm hopefully just doing something wrong and it is do-able. Please advise what I should try next. Thanks for your help so far.

Open you Event Log and see what the defaulting module is. It could be PS, drivers, conflicting program, corrupted load of program, or any number of things.
