Restart after Restart problem

Ok, there is something slightly wiered taking place with my Macbook Pro that has never happened before and wondering if anyone else has had the problem.
I have had this particular mac since October 2006 and all has gone well until the last few days.
A few days ago I was home, working on the internet when out of no where the screen starts to dim (top to bottom) and the multi-language message comes up that there is a problem and must restart. I restart and the same thing happens almost imediatly. This happens maybe 8-10 times in a row. Sometimes at the blue startup screen, sometimes it actually boots all the way up and within 5-10 seconds it happens again.
After trying several things, I call technical support. They tell me to insert disk #1 and do the boot up while holding "C". I do and we run a check on the hard drive. All is well. She tells me that my best bet is a archive reinstall. I go to the office where there is another mac so I can do the firewire/taerget disk backup. When I get to the office I boot up again just to see and it boots up fine and I work for several hours. I go ahead and do a backup just in case. I go home and imediatly it happens again.
On a whim I decide to shut off the wireless router I have. No problem it boots right up. I turn the internet on again and it does it again. Turn the internet off, no problem. I was about to go ahead and do the reinstall when 2 friends came over with their macs. Guess what! It happened to them as well. Move out to the edge of the router range and no problem. Move closer and the screen goes dim and the restart message comes up.
That got me thinking that maybe it isn't my machine. Maybe there is something wiered about my router/internet connection. The thing is I have had this router setup for longer than I have had this particular mac. Why now?
I am using the Linksys wireless N router, with the N part turned off as my range expander won't recognize the N.
After several days of problems, this evening all is working well thus far. But why things are working well I want to see if anyone has any insight into the matter.
Everytime it happens and I am left without my mac, it means I have to go to a PC backup that I have. That is reason enough to get to the bottom of the problem so i can just use my mac.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the novel.
Phil
MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Don't know if there are any weird lines or not since I am not familiar with what should go there.
By looking at the time stamp I'm not sure I have had the kernal panic during this particular log.
Kind of long, but here it is.

Look in Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and see if you have any runaway processes using a lot of %CPU.
I would also strongly recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. If it reports errors you can Google them or post them here.

    Hi
If I do a cold start my system will boot up ok,but if I have to do a "restart" after installing something it boots up and the gets to the part where it says "Searching for IDE devices" and it will hang.If I power off and then on again it will boot up normaly.Apart from that it runs well...any ideas  ?(

Case Temp runs on average about 89f - 100f
When I set this thing up I had a 300 Watt supply and it did not fully run things and did have some problems with the HD lights staying on, my guess was due to not enough power. So beefing it up to 360 Watts fixed that.
Also had restart problems quite often, at least 3 or 4 times a day it would just reboot on its own, I run and operate a computer store , so I had the ability to try different things to fix this. Turns out the memory on the nForce chipset boards is VERY important. Brand new sticks from a variety of sources had different affects, including not counting all the memory properly, restarting randomly and not booting at all. Believe it or not, one of the cheapest memory makers on the market seems to have been the best for use in the machine and that would be the Kingston Value Ram. So, if at all possible try getting some of them and see what happens. The worst??? All Components Memory.
You guys should also look at the 4 lights that are or should be in the back of your machine provided by MSI for your troubleshooting aids.. They do work and are quite helpful.
Sorry for the lengthy message post, but thought maybe I could be of some help to somebody.

    Hi everyone,
Sorry if someone else has posted this, but I couldn't find a similar problem on the forum.
Since updating a few days ago, my mac no longer stays permanently shutdown, but restarts itself around 30min after shutdown.
I have run the combo update, verified disk (no problems), verified and repaired permissions, checked all the energy saver preferences were correct etc., but the problem is still occurring.
Can anyone advise what might be done to remedy this?
    Thanks very much.

  • Bold 9930 restarting problem

    hi,
Inspite of updating the device software several times the restarting problem still prevails.
    Kindly advise,
    Regards
    Sunny

    Hi sunny3788
If even after updating your device software your device is still having the same problem then can you confirm a few things like how many third party application you are having on your device, or are you still having any of those third party application that you are having before this update? If it is then I prefer Uninstall all those applications to see it reboot stops.
If problem disappear then install one application at a time to see which application is responsible .Also as you mentioned on your previous thread that you brought your device recently so I think your device is still under warranty and you can approach your carrier because it might be an hardware issue. And in that situation you can ask for a replacement.
Click " Like " if you want to Thank someone.

  • HT1222 Will this update hjelp the periodic restart problem on iPhone 4S

Will IOS6.1 update improve the restart problem that occurs with iPhone 4s?

I tried all of the suggested solutions mentioned in this thread, and finally did a full reset according to Apple's instructions, step by step (as an engineer and 40 year computer user I am good at that stuff).
Sorry to say after the several hour process, not one of the problems I have experienced have been solved.
IPad 2 is still running slow and choppy.
Some Apps do not even load.
Website pages will not load and result in error messages. One particularly annoying Safari error on loading a new web page is:  "a problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded".
MY iPad  2 worked perfectly for the last couple of years through several updates that performed seamlessly, but this one and the two most recent corrected updates have rendered my iPad so degraded that I don't think I will be using it much anymore. I originally bought the tablet because of it's smooth GUI and fast performance, the reliability and error free environment, and Apple's proven record for effective updates. That's all gone now.

  • Delta Platinium restarting problem

Hi, first time posting a problem here (why.....)
my board: K7n2 Delta Platinium (bought a month ago)
All worked fine untill...Yesterday i installed heatsinks to the mofsets, run super PI and Prime with 1.425 of voltage, all good, then turn off the computer. An hour after, i turn on the pc again, pressed the Del key quickly and the pc didnt want to start, cut off the power and turned it on again, seemed ok and i thought all because of the DEL key, after entering windows i decided to make sure of things: restar, then the same problem, the pc hang on at the initial stage. I tried serverl times and got the same problem again, need to cut off the power to star the pc, a notable thing: no memory checking at the start, sometimes does but so random...the Dbracket: all red except the top left (1).
For people that dont want to read above:
I am having restarting problem, hang on at the early initialization.

MY Iphone Has a restart problem again and again wot to do please tell me

Basics from the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.  If you go through ALL of those steps and you still have issues, you need to get your phone checked out by Apple.

  • Restart Problem Fix for Mega 865

Just letting people know how I fixed my Mega 865 restart problems
    my quick story
I built my 865 with 512RAM and installed XP MCE2005. The next day I installed a 1 GIG RAM chip and the system would not boot into XP. It would get to the windows boot screen and crash when loading the hard drive drivers.... or somewhere around there. couldnt even get into safe mode. I removed the Radeon 9800 and it booted. oh no could it be the AGP Card?
well I put it back in and tried every thing,
removed the new 1 GIG RAM, same problem
    reset BIOS
    reset to Safe Settings BIOS
    reset to Optimal BIOS
repair XP recovery console, fix MBR ...etc
then I the BIOS I tried dropping the AGP Aperature size from 64MB down to 8MB. It fixed the problem.
I'm guessing the issue is really one of power. the PSU is only 230w and with the extra ram stick, it had problems putting out enough power.
so I dropped the agp aperature down to 8MB (shouldnt matter as the card has 128MB and hopefully shouldnt need system RAM)
I also turned off the serial port (set it to disabled - who uses the serial port anyway)
and disabled the modem and network card (dont need the modem and I'm using the wireless card instead of the ethernet one)
hopefully turn these things off will prevent furthur power issues when running games and stuff.

the prescott core P4s are hot enough as it is, without squeezing a 3.2ghz in there, along with a hot GPU
i would recommend the northwood core P4, as they run cooler and are just as good as prescott P4s as tests have shown
and i would also advise you to search through this forum for topics about mega 180 heat issues; the issues will apply to all mega series, just seems to cause more of a problem with the 180, but most ideas will apply to 865
first thing to check is airflow, make sure that there are no cable looms in front of heatsink, obstructing airflow to the fan. bear in mind too that by default, the fan is already blowing hot air off the AGP card onto the heatsink (yes, poor design by MSI but it can be resolved apparently by "reversing" fan airflow).

  • Strange Restart Problem

For several years, I've been using AW 6.0.4 (running under Classic) and 6.2.9 on my 1GZ Power PC G4, OS 10.4.0. (Yes, I know 6.0.4 is supposed to be "unstable" but it works fine for me; let's not pursue that.) I recall that at first I had a problem opening 6.0.4; when I clicked on either icon, I got AW 6.2.9. Somewhere along the way, the problem disappeared (who knows why?) and everything has been working fine for a long time. Then, one day last week I was having a problem with a graphics program (unrelated), and decided to restart my computer to see if that would solve the problem. Alas, when the 'puter came back to life, everything was screwed up -- dock repositioned, desktop icons scrambled, preferences back to default. Worse yet, two apps that I bought years ago now said I was on trial and would have to pay to keep using them. I've taken up the restart problem with my mac.group; still awaiting an answer.
For this forum, my problem is that I'm again having a problem opening AW 6.0.4; all I get is AW 6.2.9. Does this perhaps have something to do with where the folders are stored? Anything else I might try? I'm most grateful for any suggestions.
One further question: I seem to recall that when responses to my questions are posted, I will be notified by e-mail. Now I don't find that option.
    Nolan

"For this forum, my problem is that I'm again having a problem opening AW 6.0.4; all I get is AW 6.2.9. Does this perhaps have something to do with where the folders are stored? Anything else I might try? I'm most grateful for any suggestions."
The most likely cause of this is that the icon for 6.0.4 on your Dock has become disconnected from 6.0.4 and now points to 6.2.9. No idea how that happened, but the cure should be easy.
Drag the icon off the Dock and drop it on the Desktop. It should disappear in a puff of virtual smoke.
Open the folder containing AW 6.0.4.
Control-Click on the AppleWorks 6 icon in that folder.
    • If the pop up menu shows "Show package contents":
                  - choose that, Open the Contents folder, then the Mac OS (Classic) folder.
                  - Drag the AppleWorks 6 icon to the Dock.
    • If the menu does not show "Show package contents":
                  - Release the mouse button to close the menu
                  - Drag the AppleWorks 6 icon to the Dock.
The new icon should launch AW 6.0.4.
    Regards,
    Barry
PS: The AppleWorks 6.2.9 application IS a package, which contains both AW 6.2.9 (for OS X) and AW 6.2.8 (for Mac OS 9.x). You may want to put 6.2.8 on the Dock rather than 6.0.4.

    K7N2G-ILSR MS-6570 Restart Problems!
Has anybody else had a problem like this . . .
Ive got this problem with two machines now!!!!
Say for example you boot your machine and go into the bios to change whatever. Then save and exit. It should reboot and carry on to go into windows (or whatever). BUT . . . both of my machines restart and then just sit there and give a long beep which then repeats.
If I turn the machine off completely then back on it starts up ok with any changes to the bios kept from last time.
    Can anybody help?!?!??!  ;(
I have updated to the latest bios (which is 7.2)

    I now have the MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR (601-6570-030).;
On the box:- NVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400 Chipset Based.
    K7,nFORCE2 Ultra400/SPP,MCP2-T,FSB400,D-Bracket2,Round cable,2*SATA&power cables,1394 cable,S-Bracket,WinDVD4.
I have 2x256 PC3200 Corsair DDR and a XP2800 Barton, tried and tested at 240fsb(237fsb Totally stable), And I get the same thing happening to me..Also this board and the last one will NOT do the claimed 400fsb..
And dont say it's the ram because it's not, the ram and CPU are fine.... It's the Motherboard that is incompatable with the Ram & CPU
why because my Ram is Corsair(the name speaks for itself) and works in every system to date!.. The CPU is AMD also works in every system to date!
Soon as i get around 193+(fsb) it starts to do the same thing wont reboot, and does the beep thing! at 200x7 200x7.5 200x8 200x8.5 200x9 200x9.5 200x10 200x10.5 200x11 200x11.5= NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING but BEEP ......BEEP.......BEEP.
I also bought a brand new Antec TRUEPower550Watt with front voltage control (£100+) and that still does,nt do it
this is my second board, and im totaly fed up with there crap board. I spent good money for this TOP Class Ram and dont expect to be told the Rams wrong when it works in every other system i have had my hands on!!!!!!!
MY advice is send it back and get an other and if thats no use send it back again and get a refund and buy an ABIT NF7-S.. with exactly the same components i get a fsb of anything(100) upto 240fsb abit..
    SIG is old board

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
