"restart computer now" message

sometimes, my g4 stops whatever it's doing, the screen goes dim, and a box appears with a graphic that looks like an enlarged version of the on button, which tells me to restart my computer. does anyone know why this might happen?

There are hardware and software causes of Kernel Panics; so the instructions
on the page link given outline troubleshooting the more common of these.
The airport card related problems may require a service center repair if the
integrated wireless card in a later model is defective, since the user can't
remove the card (it isn't under the keyboard in the last model iBook) to
physically disconnect it. And it can be shut down only so far in software.
Good call, though; some users do get a kernel panic situation due to a
conflict in hardware or software relating to the airport wi-fi card or board.

I update this morning at work, on VISTA with iphone 4. Same thing, i restart, it tells me Itunes cannot start as files are missing.
I seached EVERYWHERE, with lots of stupid long winded possible solutions.
THIS WORKS, and its ONE SIMPLE CLICK... WHY DO APPLE NOT HAVE THIS LISTED ON THE FRONT OF SOLUTIONS
THanks to those who actually know what to do above.

  • My iPhoto won't open or close on Mac.  I can't restart computer as it says it is open, but it won't display.

My iPhoto has always worked fine.  Now I can't get it to open.  Light under it in the dock is illuminated but the app won't open or close.  Tried to restart computer but message indicated I had to close iPhoto first.  I tried closing everything else and shutting power off, then turning back on.  Illuminated iPhoto app on dock remains and I still can't open or close.  Is this a common problem?  I've never had this happen.  I have over 5,000 photos - I'd hate to lose them!

Thank you.  It would not Force Quit and I got no error messages and Apple icon indicated all software was up to date.  However I think the problem is solved.  I used Spotlight and typed in iPhoto.  When i clicked on iPhoto icon there was a message that photos needed to be upgraded.  I selected upgrade and it now works!
Yes, the upgrading of the library was standard with this latest iPhoto update. Glad to see you are up and running again.

Hey folks, I think I figured out the problem.
My USB Wireless: Hawking HWL2A was the culprit!
Since I've been using the USB, my error message would come up every 5 minutes from restarting my computer.
Now, I've disconnected the wireless and haven't used the USB for more than 30 minutes and I've been opening applications, playing chess, etc.. And NOT 1 error message has popped up.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what wireless card I can purchase for my Dual Powermac G5?
I've done some searching and found that the BELKIN 802.11g Wireless Desktop Network Card is compatible with the dual powermac g5. You think its better to go with this or a USB wireless?
    Please let me know...
    Thanks!

  • Message "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now"

I am in OS 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro. I get repeated message  upon start-up "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Restarting does not stop the message. Nor does canceling it. It keeps occuring, blocking my ability to do applications. Because it comes to the front all the time, and the "shutdown" button is lit, if I inadvertently hit a return key while typing something else, the computer shuts down. I have a western digital backup disk-dismounting that has no effect. I have also run the disk utility permissions repair a few times to no avail.
    Thanks for any advice.

This might happen if your power button is malfunctioning.  Remember a slight tap of the power button will bring up that screen.  Bring it in for service if it is readily reproducible.

  • "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" message on start up

This morning on startup I received the popup message "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?". Canceling has no effect. The message just reappears on restart. I've verified the disk; it's fine. I've repaired permissions and I get this message: "Warning: SUID file System/Library/Core has been modified and will not be repaired. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Can you perhaps look in the console (/utilities/console) and watch for what's written around the time of the dialog?
    Perhaps an indication is there.

HOLD DOWN YHE POWER BUTTON UNTIL IT TURNS OFF, THEN PRESS THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN."; this message is displayed in 5 different langueges; under the message is displayed a black  icon with the force shutdown / restart button of the mac book pro.
I follow the required procedure: if i choose to restart with OS X an alert essage is dispayed : "COMPUTER WAS RESTARTED DUE TO A PROBLEM"; dialog suggest to send notification to Apple; this message is displayed in my original language: Italian.
Some one can help me please?
    Thx

That is hardware and driver issue and to resolve you are probably going to have to find what was installed and uninstall, and disconnect the device.
AppleHFS.sys can have trouble mounting drives.
To write to Windows, NTFS driver (Paragon-Software)
To stop using AppleHFS, again, replace with a Windows HFS driver
    - if that is the cause
Apple does not support mounting RAID while in Windows.
Reinstall won't help. And you can't avoid forever.
Also boot from Windows 7 DVD and repair - go back to prior restore point.

  • My macbook pro suddenly freezes; screen turns off and computer freezes.  Have to hard restart.  Error message appears upon restart, saying something about kernel, etc.  Can anyone please help on this issue?

For the past month or more I've encountered what I consider to be quite a serios problem with my Macbook pro.  The laptop suddenly freezes without warning, the screen turns black, while the hard drive apparently stals and the system no longer responds.  The only way to resolve this issues is to restart the computer via a hard reset.  After restarting, an error message box shows up asking me to report the error, which I've already done on numerous occassions.  The problem occurs at a frequency of 1 every 2-3 days, sometimes more often than that.  The error message that comes up is very complicated but contains some key words amongst which includes "kernel."  This makes me believe that it's an issue with the video card, and was wondering how I can remediate this problem so as to get the normal function of my laptop back.  If anyone can be of any help, I would greatly appreciate it.
