Restart computer on Repair a problem

We need to view pdf's through a web browser control in an application.  Our users will have access to that application which is located on our server.  The repair feature of Adobe allows a restart, which we cannot allow on our server.  Is there any way to remove that feature during the installation of Adobe reader or to prevent non-admins from seeing it?  Will the restart allow the users to restart a computer in which they are not admins?  I do not have access to this computer, so I cannot test any of these issues.  Thanks!

That indicates that your Mac is not able to find a system to boot from.
If you have been shutting your Mac down by turning off the power there is a very good chances you have corrupted the hard drive.
The problem is not a virus. It is you.

I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • Troubles with remote installation on older macbook- problem arises when I restart computer while holding down option key

I've got remote disk sharing set up so I can upgrade my operating system from my desktop using snow leopard CD. My Macbook is able to read disk remotely and all goes well following directions for installation until I am supposed to hold down option key while restarting computer. When I do this, only my hard drive is an option for start up, not the hard drive and the disk as it shows in the instructions and pop up menu for start up. Why? What am I doing wrong with the start up? Also, it says I should be able to choose the Airport network, but my computer automatically connects and anyways, that is also not an option from the pop up menu (to choose a network and enter password), that pop up menu section doesn't show up at all, it goes right to choosing disc icon where only mac hard drive, not mac os x install, is an option. Does this make sense? I'm giving up for now.
    Thanks.

The only known way to make it work on an external drive is by first installing Windows onto an internal drive, then cloning the install to an external Thunderbolt drive. Thunderbolt is seen as an extension of the internal bus, so Windows doesn't see it as an external device.

  • MacBook Pro Hard Drive Repair/Permissions Problems

My MacBook Pro (2.2GHz) wouldn't start. I was getting the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel that never stops. Tried zapping the PRAM. Tried holding down the shift key. No luck.
So I finally booted from the Leopard Install CD. No problem. Figured I'd use the Disk Utility to repair the disk. I get the following two problems every time:
    REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS:
    Repairing Permissions for "GROOVY"
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    REPAIR DISK:
    Checking Catalog File
incorrect block count for file pcscd.pub
(it should be 16 instead of 17)
Every time I re-launch the computer, using the Leopard CD, I get the same two problems. Can't repair permissions at all. And I get the same "incorrect block count for file pcscd.pub" error when trying to Repair Disk. Even though Disk Utility appeared to repair that problem (and then recheck it) the last time.
Anyway I was able to use Firewire Target Disk Mode to copy all my files to my PowerMac G4. While I was connected I also used DiskWarrior. Seemed to repair the disk with no problems.
So at this point I've pretty much resigned myself to doing an Archive and Install. Unfortunately I've tried it twice and I keep getting this:
    INSTALL FAILED
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer
The installer could not install some files in "/Volumes/GROOVY". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Click restart to restart your computer and try again.
Now I'm going to try wiping the disk and doing a fresh install. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to call Apple. Anybody else having similar problems?
    Thanks,
    LT

As I understand it, you can't fix a failing SMART status. Believe me I tried on my iBook! I was originally under the impression that DiskWarrior and Tech Tool Pro could fix anything, but I now understand that they and Disk Utility can only repair the directory. As it was explained to me, SMART was set up to give warning of hard drive failure so that you could rescue your data before the hard drive dies altogether. You can disable it I think, but that's like putting black tape over the warning light in your car that lights up if you are running out of oil--possible to do, but not a good idea.
So if your SMART status is failing, then the only cure is to replace the hard drive. The hard drive can work for a while, but it's on its way out.
Here's a little background information on SMART status:
    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000184.htm
And I hope this was just a rhetorical question!

  • Message "you need to restart computer" when shutdown Mac OS X or WIN7

On my book Pro with Mac OS X 0.7.2 i creted a new Bootcamp Partition and i installed WIN7 Ultimate. When installation was completed i installed Bootcamp driver. Now i'm able to login with OS x or with Win7 and both system seems to work properly.
When i shutdown Win7 or OSX a gray window is displayed with this message "YOU NEED TO RESTART COMPUTER. HOLD DOWN YHE POWER BUTTON UNTIL IT TURNS OFF, THEN PRESS THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN."; this message is displayed in 5 different langueges; under the message is displayed a black  icon with the force shutdown / restart button of the mac book pro.
I follow the required procedure: if i choose to restart with OS X an alert essage is dispayed : "COMPUTER WAS RESTARTED DUE TO A PROBLEM"; dialog suggest to send notification to Apple; this message is displayed in my original language: Italian.
Some one can help me please?
    Thx
    carlo Casoli

That is hardware and driver issue and to resolve you are probably going to have to find what was installed and uninstall, and disconnect the device.
AppleHFS.sys can have trouble mounting drives.
To write to Windows, NTFS driver (Paragon-Software)
To stop using AppleHFS, again, replace with a Windows HFS driver
    - if that is the cause
Apple does not support mounting RAID while in Windows.
Reinstall won't help. And you can't avoid forever.
Also boot from Windows 7 DVD and repair - go back to prior restore point.

  • Powermac G5 "Please Restart Computer" PLEASE HELP!

I've searched on all the forums and I've tried all the fix's, but I still get the PLEASE RESTART COMPUTER error message.

    Things, I've done:
    1. I've ran a memory test using Rember, and it was successful with no errors found.
    2. I ran Disk Utility through the Install Disk and repaired / repaired permissions and no error was found.
    3. My S.M.A.R.T drive is verified and working.
Still, I'm getting the PLEASE RESTART YOUR COMPUTER message.

Much help would be appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Hey folks, I think I figured out the problem.
My USB Wireless: Hawking HWL2A was the culprit!
Since I've been using the USB, my error message would come up every 5 minutes from restarting my computer.
Now, I've disconnected the wireless and haven't used the USB for more than 30 minutes and I've been opening applications, playing chess, etc.. And NOT 1 error message has popped up.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what wireless card I can purchase for my Dual Powermac G5?
I've done some searching and found that the BELKIN 802.11g Wireless Desktop Network Card is compatible with the dual powermac g5. You think its better to go with this or a USB wireless?
    Please let me know...
    Thanks!

  • Cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.

when Update to 10.7.2 ,I cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.
    OS:10.7.2
    Macbook Pro 2010-mid 13inch

I also have the same problem, however if I use Firefox or Opera sites with ssl connection work fine. Still, I can't use Google Chrome (ssl), Safari (ssl), the Mac app store (generally), or the iTunes store (generally). Both the iTunes store, Safari and the app store won't respond, and Chrome displays this error: (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT). The problem persists regardless of what network I'm using. Also, when trying to access the keychain or iCloud, the process will not start (will hang). I didn't have these problems at all before updating to 10.7.2.
Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes not. If the problem disappears by rebooting, then it only lasts a few minutes before it reappears. It is very frustrating, especially since there doesn't seem to be any obvious or consistent way of which to fix it.
    I'm also using a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2010.

  • There is a partfile open in mozilla/how do I close programme to delete the file/I already restarted computer

I have windows 7 and mozilla firefox. when I try to delete one particular file from desktop it says it cannot be removed as it is open in mozilla firefox programme. I have restarted computer but still it wont go. How do I close mozilla and reopen it again in order to delete the nuisance part file which is 23MB and making comuter very slow.thanks Faye

If the file reappears when you (re)start Firefox then you can check that you haven't set an automatic download page as one of the home pages or if there is still a download in progress.
Try to delete the downloads.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
You can also check for problems with the sessionstore.js file that stores session data from open tabs.

  • Recurring Message "You Shut Down Your Computer Because of a Problem"

I had a computer crash and since then I get a prompt after login (administrator or any other account) stating: "You shut down your computer because of a problem" and even when I choose to open the apps that were open during the crash it still prompts me again after a reboot.
    Steps I have taken:
    1. Booted into recovery and performed a disk and permissions repair to no avail
    2. Attempted to login on other accounts and received same error.
    3. Used Onyx to clear the cache on boot, kernel as well as applications
    4. Used Oynx to rebuild the LaunchServices and dyld's shared cache.
Still have the problem even after booting into Safe Mode (prompt did not appear then, but reappeared when booting normally)
    Any ideas.

  • Has the "You shut down your computer because of a problem" message changed?

When I restart the computer after a Kernal Panic I get the message "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Click Report to see detailed information and send a report to Apple"; 2 buttons are shown: "Ignore" and "Report...". For some time now, when I click on "Report..." the message disappears but I used to get a window allowing me to type in information about (something like) what I was doing prior to the problem occurring with a button (something like) 'Send Report". Since the "Report" button now causes the message to disappear, is a Report still going to Apple? Thank you.

    Open Console app
View the System Diagnostic Reports by clicking on the disclosure triangle next to it in the log list. If the log list isn't visible, click the Show Log List button.
Look for the latest report starting with "kernel"
Select the report and it will show in the pane on the right.
Select everything in the report except the Anonymous UUID.
Copy and paste it into a reply here.

iPad IOS 7.0.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Calendar colors do not match between computer and device.  Problem did not exist until updated IOS arrived.  Colours change of their own free will despite being corrected on both iPAD and MacBook Pro.  Any answers?

Please do not post the entire messages log as it takes up unnecessarily a lot of space.  It seems that there is a corrupt/nonfunctional file called
    [email protected]nt.plist
Go to your hard drive, enter library, go into users, and go into launch agents and delete the thing above.  Empty the trash and restart.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • Trying to install CS 5.5 on a newer computer (Windows 7) and I am told to "please restart computer." Restarting doesn't resolve anything

I am trying to install CS 5.5 on a newer computer and every time I go through setup the serial number comes back good (green check mark, etc.) but then when I proceed with install, I am told to "please restart computer." No error number just "please restart." After restarting 5 or 6 times I realized there must be a deeper issue. I first made a basic mistake (forgot to deactivate the serial#) so I went back on to the original device and, interestingly, when I re-installed InD CS5.5 on the old computer, there was no incident. It then proceeded to function normally and opened just fine, I deactivated the serial#, and went back to the new computer. After installing and trying again, I got the same message "please restart computer."
This was a license that allowed for multiple installs and I have put this program on a Win7 (pro) laptop before using the same serial number and had no issue. Now I am on an Asus Desktop running Win7 (home) and and am having this please restart problem. Could it be an OS issue? Any ideas of what to try?
Thank you all, I hope someone can help.
    Tommy

I think you need to clean this machine before trying again, so run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), then run MSconfig and turn off all non-essential startup programs before you try to install again.
Also, be sure javascript is enabled. From the Start menu choose Run, then in the command field type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter. You should get a confirmation.
