Restart in 32 bit mode. How?

Restart in 32 bit mode (to run VMware Fusion). How? There is no information about how to do this that I can find.

Google "restart mac in 32 bit mode" worked for me.

  • How can I tell if my firefox is running in 64 bit? (I went to play something on netflix and it said I needed to restart in 32 bit mode, now I want to go back to 64 bit mode)

I went to play something on netflix and it said I needed to restart in 32 bit mode, so I clicked restart in 32 bit mode and all it did was exit firefox and reload everything. At that point im guessing its in 32 bit mode now because I can now play movies on netflix. I wanna know how i can test to see if its in 32 bit or 64 bit ; and also how to go back to 64 bit.

  • Hotmail always asks to restart in 32 bit mode, never works

I'm on a mac. I tried the suggestion of quitting Firefox, going into Applications-->Firefox-->Get Info-->and checking "start in 32 bit mode", but Hotmail STILL asks me to restart in 32 bit mode.
Hotmail works properly in Safari though.
How can I solve this? Thanks.

Not all plugins support 64 bit and if not then you need to start Firefox in 32 bit mode to use that plugin.
    # Close Firefox
    # Start the Finder and open the Applications folder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select or Deselect "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight for Mac [http://microsoft-silverlight-mac.en.softonic.com/mac link text]. I just did this, and was able to play Netflix's streaming again--and without that "restart in 32-bit mode" button even appearing!

  • Why do I have to RESTART in 32-bit mode?

If I want to add an attachment to an e-mail OR view a video - I get a prompt to RESTART in 32-bit mode. I do not have this issue when I go through SAFARI. Very inconvenient.

  • I dl'd Firefox 4, was working great but, Firefox 4 is unable to work w/ Netflix. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit mode and now Firefox 4 will not open on my MacPro. I have to "Force Quit". What's the problem?

I dl'd Firefox 4 on wide release Tuesday. It was working just fine on all news sites I use. Then, I tried to use my Netflix streaming. Netflix alerted me FF4 needed to run in 32-bit mode due to its movie player plug-in. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit button, FF4 crashed. I've since re-dl'd FF4 and loaded it into the Apps folder on my MacPro(Mac OS 1.6.7/2.66 Quad-core/2 GB RAM/256MB GPU). It still won't open and I have to "Force Quit". Several "Reports" have been sent to Apple but, I don't think Apple is the problem. As it now stands, I can only run last version of FF on my MacPro.
I also have a MacBook(Mac OS 10.6.7/2.16 C2D/1 GB RAM/64 MB GPU) and I am able to have 2 versions of FF on that Mac. I even have the newest version labeled as Firefox4, so as to distinguish between the 2 for the purpose of using FF4 for everything but Netflix. So, what happened? What's the difference? Why won't FF4 run on my MacPro anymore?

If this were just a Netflix problem, why can I access Netflix through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox? I've been using Firefox to access Netflix for at least the past year and starting yesterday (12/6/11) Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that Netflix exists. I've tried the suggested Firefox "help" which was of no help whatsoever and may even have made life more difficult in accessing other accounts. Anyone know how to contact Netflix or Firefox by phone?

  • Viewing PDFs in Safari in 64-bit mode - how?

For me, in 64 bit mode, Safari insists on using Preview to view PDFs (and which is slow and clunky).
If I make Safari downgrade itself to 32 bit mode, it properly calls up Acrobat to view PDFs.
How can I have Safari running in native 64 bit mode and call up Acrobat to view PDFs on webpages? Or is it not possible?

If you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed, the plugin they install to view PDF files in Safari is not 64-bit compatible. Aside from that, unless you have more than 4 GB of RAM installed in your machine, you will not benefit in any way from running Safari or any other application in 64-bit mode, so you should be running everything in 32-bit mode.
Because Safari is perfectly capable of rendering PDF files on it's own, you need to ditch Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro, or at the very least, deactivate them so they are not called when you want to view a PDF file. To do that:
    Quit Safari if it's running.
Start Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro.
Go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box at the top where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:", or something similar to that.
Quit Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro and restart Safari to test it.

  • Why does it keep telling me to restart in 32 bit mode?

A yellow button appears with a notification along to top of the window below the different link tabs. It tells me it would be better in 32 bit mode. I click the button and firefox restarts.

I found the fix here -->
    http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/mac-firefox-4-b7.html
Basically, you go into "Get Info" for the Firefox icon and check off "open in 32 bit mode"

  • I keep getting a banner at the top of my email page, ATT/Yahoo, that says "This page requires a plug-in that can only run in 32-bit mode. Then there is a place to click "Restart in 32-bit mode" restarting doesn't help. I have a Mac, OS 10.6.7.

I don't know what else to add. Please ask me any questions for other info you need.

That means that you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode if you want to use that plugin.
    # Close Firefox
    # Open the Applications folder in Finder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

  • Why do I get an error message in safari 5.1 telling me to restart in 32 bit mode in order to "view the movie" when I first start safari on opening page?

why do I get an error message when I start safari 5.1 telling me I need to open browser in 32 bit mode in order to "view movie" ? This occurs when I start safari on the opening page (the page with all the boxes for most viewed web sites). This had never occurred with safari up until the latest updates to safari & OSX [Version 5.1 (6534.50)] and OSX 10.6.8.
also, I'm not trying to view a movie - this occurs for the page previews that load when safari opens.
    thanks.

  • When I start firefox 4 on my mac osx 10.6.7 says requires plug in as run on 32 bit mode can I instal this plug in. Firefox does restart using 32 bit mode when I clock on restart using 32 bit mode ?

Want to start using firefox 4 without the need to ask it to run in 32 bit mode

Found the steps here...seems to work so far...

    Have a great one!

  • On some pages I get an error in yellow at the top "This page requires a plugin that can only run in 32-bit mode" with an option to restart; how do I find which plugin this applies to and/or disable this message for the given plugin?

I don't want to restart in 32-bit mode unless absolutely required, and even if I need to I want to track down and replace the involved plugin with a 64-bit version if I can. There should be a 'more information' or similar button instead of just 'Restart in 32-bit mode' being the only prominent option.

Look to see if you have an app called Browser Plus from Yahoo. I uninstalled it because it said it isn't compatible with Firefox 4 & up. Thus far that error hasn't returned.
