  • I dl'd Firefox 4, was working great but, Firefox 4 is unable to work w/ Netflix. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit mode and now Firefox 4 will not open on my MacPro. I have to "Force Quit". What's the problem?

I dl'd Firefox 4 on wide release Tuesday. It was working just fine on all news sites I use. Then, I tried to use my Netflix streaming. Netflix alerted me FF4 needed to run in 32-bit mode due to its movie player plug-in. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit button, FF4 crashed. I've since re-dl'd FF4 and loaded it into the Apps folder on my MacPro(Mac OS 1.6.7/2.66 Quad-core/2 GB RAM/256MB GPU). It still won't open and I have to "Force Quit". Several "Reports" have been sent to Apple but, I don't think Apple is the problem. As it now stands, I can only run last version of FF on my MacPro.
I also have a MacBook(Mac OS 10.6.7/2.16 C2D/1 GB RAM/64 MB GPU) and I am able to have 2 versions of FF on that Mac. I even have the newest version labeled as Firefox4, so as to distinguish between the 2 for the purpose of using FF4 for everything but Netflix. So, what happened? What's the difference? Why won't FF4 run on my MacPro anymore?

If this were just a Netflix problem, why can I access Netflix through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox? I've been using Firefox to access Netflix for at least the past year and starting yesterday (12/6/11) Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that Netflix exists. I've tried the suggested Firefox "help" which was of no help whatsoever and may even have made life more difficult in accessing other accounts. Anyone know how to contact Netflix or Firefox by phone?

  • How can I tell if my firefox is running in 64 bit? (I went to play something on netflix and it said I needed to restart in 32 bit mode, now I want to go back to 64 bit mode)

I went to play something on netflix and it said I needed to restart in 32 bit mode, so I clicked restart in 32 bit mode and all it did was exit firefox and reload everything. At that point im guessing its in 32 bit mode now because I can now play movies on netflix. I wanna know how i can test to see if its in 32 bit or 64 bit ; and also how to go back to 64 bit.

You're right ''co-rel''. Apologies for the error ''pacific-ninja''. There's an illustration of it on this forum: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1122762

  • I just updated FF to 14.0.1 (Mac 10.6.8) and now netflix won't work. It's asking to restart in 32 bit mode and I changed it in the Get Info to 32 bit. No luck.

Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight for Mac [http://microsoft-silverlight-mac.en.softonic.com/mac link text]. I just did this, and was able to play Netflix's streaming again--and without that "restart in 32-bit mode" button even appearing!

  • Hotmail always asks to restart in 32 bit mode, never works

I'm on a mac. I tried the suggestion of quitting Firefox, going into Applications-->Firefox-->Get Info-->and checking "start in 32 bit mode", but Hotmail STILL asks me to restart in 32 bit mode.
Hotmail works properly in Safari though.
How can I solve this? Thanks.

  • Firefox and Thunderbird get locked into 'processes' which means I can't open either program because it is 'already running' - I asked this B4 but I crashed and lost bookmark.

After I open Firefox or T-Bird, use it and then close it it stays running in 'processes' when I open Task Manager. When I try to open it a 2nd time it won't open because it's 'already running.' When I check Task Manager I find it listed twice in processes but can only 'end process' for one of the two instances. Then I need to restart the computer B4 I can open Firefox for a second time. I posted this previously but my PC (Win 7 Prof, 64 bit with 4 AMD processors and 8 GB of memory) crashed, I had to reformat the hard drive and hadn't backed up or printed out my bookmarks, so I can't find my way back to the area where 3 people said they had the same problem.

Thank you. I just downloaded it on Tuesday but I'll uninstall it and reinstall it tomorrow. I haven't been to bed since getting up Tuesday morning and I'm going to shut this baby down and get there. Thanx for your help. -Bob Miller

  • Firefox is starting in the 32 bit mode it says Firefox*32.. How can i get rid of this?

Firefox is starting in the 32 bit mode it says Firefox*32.. How can i get rid of this? Whenever i close Firefox and restart my computer it goes back to normal. There is also another problem associated with this which is that whenever Firefox is in 32 bit mod I listen to music the sound always comes unclear like clogged up.When i restart my computer its not 32 bit anymore the sound gets back to normal.I am using Windows 7.

    Hi,
If 32-bit Firefox was installed, it will be always listed as such. If both 32-bit and 64-bit were installed, please make sure to start the correct one. Usually the 32-bit would be installed in '''Computer''' > '''?:\Program Files (x86)''' > '''Mozilla Firefox''', and the 64-bit in '''Computer''' > '''?:\Program Files'''. You can also type '''about:''' in the location bar and look in '''Build identifier:'''

  • I keep getting a banner at the top of my email page, ATT/Yahoo, that says "This page requires a plug-in that can only run in 32-bit mode. Then there is a place to click "Restart in 32-bit mode" restarting doesn't help. I have a Mac, OS 10.6.7.

I don't know what else to add. Please ask me any questions for other info you need.

That means that you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode if you want to use that plugin.
    # Close Firefox
    # Open the Applications folder in Finder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

  • I need to open FireFox 12.0 (on Mac Lion) in 32-bit mode. That option to restart in 32-bit doesn't exist under "Get Info" or anywhere. Your help please, Thanks!

The option to start in 32-bit mode is available in Safari. But Firefox 12.0 doesn't seem to even have it. Is it possible to upload an earlier version of Firefox? I need to be able to do this, the inability is actually interfering with work that I do to earn my living, so time is of the essence. Thanks for any help/guidance the community can offer.

Thank you, but that option doesn't seem to exist. I have attached a screen shot of the Get Info window, and I have been unable to locate the "Restart in 32-bit" option on it. It used to be right above the "locked" checkbox.

  • Just updated to 5 on mac, but keep getting message to restart with 32-bit. Why? Never did this before!

when trying to send email on hotmail or opening certain video files, a yellow message bar appears at the top telling me that this needs to be restarted with 32-bit processing and asks to restart. Most of the time it opens the same pg, but sometimes it goes back to the first page on site. Either way, I have sent emails w/ and w/o restarting with out any problems. it is just ignoring!

Thank you for you input so far.....
I think we are getting nearer to the solution sort of!
Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct.  I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!???  or am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Frustrated even more now!!

You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>'''before'''</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.

You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

Can I fix this? It bugs me when I'm looking at real estate.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.
