Restarting a song when turning Ipod back on on...

Hello everyone: SOMETIMES when I turn my iPod mini back on (after listening to it)it goes straight to the menu...I then have to scroll all the way through my music to pick up where I left off. SOMETIMES I turn it back on and it just picks up where I left off...which is what I want.
What gives? Can you tell me what to do so it turns back on where I left off?
Greg

When you turn it off manually, you are just putting it in sleep mode. After about 14 hours some go into hibernation. Minis it would appear to wait 36 hours and then go into a "deep sleep". More info here...

  • This is my first mac, it is a macbook pro. i restarted it but when it started back up i saw a white screen and then it prompted me to insert the reboot disk. anyone else have this problem?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro, this is my first Mac. I restarted it, but when it started back there was a plain white screen and then it prompted me to insert the reboot disk. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to do this manually like with PC's?

The new Mac's came with OS X Lion 10.7 and there are no boot disks.
Since it's so new, take it back to the Apple Store and let them deal with it.
If not you can hold Command and r (as in rotten) keys down and boot the computer.
You'll be presented with a several options, including one to reinstall OS X Lion provided you have a Apple ID, which means you have to use Safari in there to set one up. To do that you need to set up a email account with Google or Yahoo. Once you get the ID, then you can download Lion and reinstall it.
It's so stupid not having a copy of the OS on hand to perform your own repairs.
Of course Apple will be happy to sell you a $69 Lion USB stick.
Like I said, take it back to the store, and try to get your money back, that will force them to think about just giving you a replacement machine that works.
Lion doesn't work really but it can be acceptable until the patches get released.

I have this same problem with my other devices (iPad 3rd Gen and iPod Nano 6th Gen). I am really frustrated now, because it seems as if I have to start all over again. Greetings Ba25,
It sounds as though you would like to transfer content from your iPod to an iTunes library. You can transfer purchased content from iPods by following the directions in the article below:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Ipod Touch restarts 'now playing' when turned off?

I use to be a 2nd gen ipod nano user and I just play my songs from the song list (not artist, album, genre etc.). Every time I turn it off and turn it back on, it shows the last song I listened to and the position I'm at (For example, 123 of 400).
Now that I switched over to an ipod Touch, every time I turn it off and turn it back on, it can't remember what song I last listened to and restarts my playlist position (For example, I'm at song 56 of 300 and when I restart it, it goes back to 1 of 300)
This is very frustrating to me. Is there a way for the ipod Touch to do what I described in the ipod nano?? Or is that just the way it's made?!

If you put it in sleep mode by briefly pressing the sleep/wake button on the top, and then go to turn it back on by briefly pressing the sleep/wake button or home button, it will continue where you left off in the playlist.
If you shut it completely down by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button until you get the 'slide to power off' message and then go to turn it back on, it will not continue where you left off. It will just display the playlist you were in.

  • White screen at when turning iPod on

When my iPod nano 2nd generation has been off for long enough (like 15 mins) and when I turn it back on, I get a completely white screen: it does it consistently. The iPod is on and I can hear the click when I use it. If I turn the iPod off again by holding the play/pause button long enough abnd turn it back on again, then the display is fine and shows me the menu. Anybody encountered the same problem? I did the 5 R's and restored the iPod twice (once resyncing my songs, and once not resyncing because I am planning to bring it back to Apple). I am very disappointed: I have waited 9 months since my birthday in January for a 8G iPod and just got this iPod yesterday. Now I have to bring it back to the store and I hope they will exchange it straight away: I am not willing to wait any more longer to be able to use a $261 iPod (with taxes).
    Lionel
    iPod nano 2nd generation

This has happened to me twice since I got my ipod this saturday. I noticed that it only did it when I had turned the ipod off while I was fooling around the the photo slideshows. If i hit menu twice then turned the ipod off it came back fine. It hasn't happened constantly with me but I would imagine that if it continues happening alot I will take it back to the store. For me, it would be a hard thing to prove.
    Hope I've helped abit.

  • Playlist when turning iTouch back on

I just recently got the 3rd generation iTouch, haven't had any major problems yet, but there is one thing I have been trying to figure out. When I'm listening to a certain playlist or album on shuffle, turn off the iPod, then later turn it back on, it's automatically at the home screen. I then have to go back into my music and start playing the same playlist again.
With my old Classic iPod, when you turned off and back on again, it left you off where you were listening before, so if you wanted to keep on the same playlist, you didn't have to hear the same songs again I already heard while shuffling.
I've checked all the settings and have yet to find an option for this. Does anyone know if there's a way to change this? or is it just something I'll have to get used to with having a Touch?

Network backups and local backups are handled differently..
Local is direct to the drive.. Network is to sparsebundle..
There are ways apparently to get TM to recognise a local sparsebundle but it requires a some command lines via terminal..
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/34391/use-a-network-time-machine-drive- locally
Is it worth it or better to just move the backup.

  • How do I get songs on my ipods back into my itunes library, which was lost due to hard drive crash, How do I get songs on my ipods back into my itunes library, which was lost due to hard drive crash

Due to a hard drive crash I lost my entire Itunes library.  Majority of this was from an extensive CD library that I imported into itunes.  When I reloaded itunes and viewed my library I only found the titles purchased from itunes.  How do I get music off of an itune classic & itune nano ipods and put back into the library so I don't have to re import my extensive cd collection

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to transfer ipod songs back to computer. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • How to get songs on my ipod back in my itunes

it's a little complicated, but i got a new computer. my old one completly crashed. i had a huge itunes libary on my old one, and all the songs on my ipod. i just installed my itunes on the new computer, but how do i get the songs on my ipod (that used to be in my itunes) back into my libary? First: DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
    PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

  • Lost songs when unlocking Ipod

I had to reinstall Itunes on a different computer. I downloaded Itunes, made sure it was up to date, then used Ipod Updater to update the software on my Ipod. After completing updates, all songs were present however they were "greyed out". I got a message saying that my Itunes library was linked to another computer and did I want to use the current library. When I clicked yes, all songs were deleted from my Ipod and nothing showes up in my Itunes Library.
How do I get my songs back?

Pressing "Yes" when iTunes brings up the dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in this iTunes unfortunately does exactly what it says. If you linked to an iTunes with only a few or completely different songs it will have erased your original iPod song list. If you don't have access to the original computer then to get the songs from then there are some data recovery programs on the market. I've no personal experience of them so I can't say how effective they are, here's an example: iPod Data Recovery</a
None of the recovery programs are particularly cheap so you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you will have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.
For future reference, Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". In automatic mode you will always get that warning when you connect to either a different computer or to one where iTunes has been reinstalled.

  • How do I load new songs when my ipod was loaded by somone else itune acct. I have my own account and dont want to lose what I have loaded on it

I have an ipod, 4 g, my girlfriend loaded it with 700 songs but she is no longer a girlfriend and I signed up to my own itune account and want to load new songs, how can i save whats on there and also create my own data base of songs,  i dont want to lose anything on the ipod

It sounds like you definitely want to turn off the  auto-sync before you hook your iPod up to the computer
         To turn off Auto-sync:
        1) open iTunes
        2) Preferences -> Devices -> check the box that says "Prevent iPods from syncing automatically
That way you can manually add songs to your iPod (using iTunes) without your iPod removing the songs on it
